Abstract

Introduction: The Spanish university has recently faced the challenge of managing the preparation of students for developing their Undergraduate Dissertation (UD). This new requirement imposed by the legislation for obtaining graduate degree has meant the involvement of almost all the university teachers and students ending their Degree. This article raises the convenience to monitor the quality management processes of UD to assess their suitability form the perspective of students. Method: A survey made to evaluate the quality of the management of UD was evaluated by 118 academics. From the contributions of evaluators the survey was rebuilt as it is offered in the Annex. During the years 2012 to 2014 the survey was conducted and answered by 1422 students. Results and discussion: A suitable reliability of the five scales included in the survey was observed. It is essential improvements in the best predictors of student satisfaction: tutor training, establishing more efficient and transparent criteria for the panels to assess the UD, to improve the quality of information provided to students to face the UD, adjust the allocation of credits to adjust the degree of dedication that students invest in their development.

Abstract

A capillary electrophoresis method was developed to detect interactions between methadone and anti-retroviral compounds. Eight subjects, who underwent methadone maintenance treatment in the Province of Alicante (Spain), consented to participate in the present study. Of those, one subject was followed up for 123 days to detect drug-drug interactions. The enantiomers of methadone and those of its main metabolite were conveniently resolved within 4 min using a chiral electrophoresis buffer mixture which consisted of phosphate buffer, pH 5, plus 0.2% highly sulphated-(beta)-cyclodextrin. The effective mobility of the analytes was in the 0.061-0.140 cm(2)/(kV s) range at pH 5. The R-methadone plasma concentration range for seven patients was 91-318 ng/mL, it decreased from 186 to 46 ng/mL in a patient followed-up on commencement of the anti-retroviral therapy, returning to the previous higher levels after progressive dose increases. We conclude that monitoring R-methadone plasma levels can be a useful tool for the dose adjustment of methadone.

Abstract

Introducción: La universidad española se ha enfrentado recientemente al reto de gestionar la preparación de los estudiantes para la realización de los Trabajos de Fin de Grado (TFGs). Este nuevo requisito impuesto por la legislación para la obtención del título de Graduado/a ha significado la implicación de la práctica totalidad del profesorado y del alumnado universitario que finaliza sus estudios de grado. Este trabajo plantea la conveniencia de monitorizar los procesos de calidad en la gestión de los TFGs con objeto de evaluar su idoneidad desde la perspectiva de los estudiantes. Método: Se sometió a evaluación por parte de 118 profesores universitarios una encuesta confeccionada para evaluar la calidad de la gestión de los TFGs. A partir de las aportaciones del profesorado se remodeló la encuesta cuyo formato final se ofrece en el Anexo. Durante los años 2012 a 2014 se aplicó dicha encuesta en la que participaron 1422 estudiantes. Resultados y discusión: Se observa una idónea consistencia interna de las cinco escalas que componen la encuesta. Es imprescindible la introducción de mejoras en los aspectos que pronostican mejor la satisfacción de los estudiantes: formación de los tutores, establecimiento de criterios más eficientes y transparentes para los tribunales encargados de evaluar los TFGs, mejora de la calidad de la información proporcionada a los estudiantes para enfrentarse al TFG y adecuar la asignación de créditos para ajustarlos al grado de dedicación de los estudiantes en su elaboración.

Abstract

An increased methadone enantiomer ratio (R/S) was associated to both nevirapine (179%, n=5) and efavirenz (36%, n=9) treatments when compared with that of controls (n=52). Additionally, in four follow-up patients, both R- and S-methadone normalized concentrations decreased (19%-93%) while R/S increased (22%-314%) following nevirapine/efavirenz treatment. R/S decreased (42%) after non-compliance with efavirenz treatment. Therefore, the methadone-maintenance-treatment outcome should be evaluated when patients are treated with drugs which are supposed to induce CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 isoforms.
