Slaughterhouse waste (SW) poses significant environmental challenges due to its complex composition, but anaerobic digestion offers a way to recover valuable biogas from SW. This study investigated the anaerobic co-digestion of beef cattle slaughterhouse waste (BCSW) with either cattle feces (CF) or swine slurry (SS). The biomethane potential, maximum methane yield (Mmax), lag phase duration, and effective digestion time (Teff) for the individual substrates and the combinations were analyzed. BCSW alone exhibited Mmax of 578.5 Nml CH4/g VSadded with a lag phase of 11 days, while CF and SS alone exhibited Mmax of 397.2 and 289.8 Nml CH4/g VSadded, respectively. Co-digestion of BCSW and SS resulted in Mmax increase of 48–75.5%, with negligible effects on Teff compared to solitary SS digestion. Similarly, co-digestion of BCSW and CF increased Mmax by 6.2–40.4%, with no significant impact on Teff compared to solitary CF digestion. However, both co-digestions led to a reduction in Mmax (12.1–27%) when compared to BCSW digestion alone. Co-digestion with SS shortened the lag phase duration by 2.8–7.8 days and accelerated Teff by 5.8–8.3 days due to SS's high concentrations of essential micronutrients like cobalt and nickel which aid digestion. This study concluded that co-digestion of BCSW with SS is an effective strategy for enhancing methane production and digestion efficiency, offering a viable approach for proper disposal of BCSW while improving biogas output. The effects of quantum mechanics dominate nanoscale devices, where Moore's law no longer holds true. Additionally, with the recent rapid development of quantum computers, the development of reversible gates to overcome the problems of energy and information loss and the nano-level quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) technology to efficiently implement them are in the spotlight. In this study, a full adder-subtractor, a core operation of the arithmetic and logic unit (ALU), the most important hardware device in computer operations, is implemented as a circuit capable of reversible operation using QCA-based reversible gates. The proposed circuit consists of one reversible QCA gate and two Feynman gates and is designed as a multi-layer structure for efficient use of area and minimization of delay. The proposed circuit is tested on QCADesigner 2.0.3 and QCADesigner-E 2.2 and shows the best performance and lowest energy dissipation. In particular, it shows tremendous improvement rates of 180% and 562% in two representative standard design cost indicators compared to the best existing studies, and also shows the highest circuit average output polarization. BACKGROUND: Sufficient shoulder flexor strength is necessary for accurate movement of the shoulder joint because several factors can cause compensatory movements of the scapula. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the influence of external fixation on the isometric shoulder flexors strength (ISFS) in individuals with and without scapular elevation (SE) during shoulder flexion. METHODS: The healthy and SE groups included 29 individuals. The ISFS was measured using a tensiometer (kg) under conditions of with and without external fixation, in a random order. The change in the ISFS (the strength difference with and without external fixation) was compared between the healthy and SE groups using an independent t -test. RESULTS: The change in the ISFS differed significantly between the healthy and SE groups (3.5% and 32.3%, respectively; p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that external fixation should be considered during shoulder flexion to determine the ISFS accurately in individuals with compensated SE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the relationship between energy and information loss and reversible gates was revealed, much interest in reversible gate design arose, and as quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) gained attention as a next-generation nano circuit design technology, various reversible gates based on QCA emerged. The proposed study optimizes the performance and design costs of existing QCA-based reversible gates including TR, RUG, PQR, and URG. According to most indicators, the proposed circuits showed significant improvement rates and outperformed existing studies. In particular, the proposed optimal TR, RUG, PQR, and URG showed performance improvements of 266%, 265%, 300%, and 144% in CostAD, respectively, compared with the best existing circuit. This shows outstanding improvement and superiority in terms of area and delay, which are the most important factors in the performance of nano-scale circuits that are becoming extremely miniaturized. Additionally, the exceptionally high-output polarization of the proposed circuits is an important indicator of the circuit's expansion and connection and increases the circuit's reliability. BACKGROUND: Lower trapezius (LT) plays an important role in maintaining the stability of the scapula. Sufficient activation of LT can reduce the risk of rotator cuff tear and shoulder impingement syndrome. The Y-raise exercise has been recommended for effective LT activation. However, the upper trapezius (UT) can be co-activated during universal Y-raise exercise. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the activity of the UT, LT, and serratus anterior (SA) during Y-raise exercise with and without isometric adduction (IAD) using Thera-Band. METHODS: 21 healthy males voluntarily participated in the study. The participants were asked to perform Y-raise exercise with and without IAD using Thera-Band. Surface electromyography was used to measure the muscle activity of UT, LT, and SA during Y-raise exercise with and without IAD. Paired t-test was used to analyze the significance of the muscle activity of UT, LT, and SA as well as the activity ratio of LT/UT and LT/SA. The significance level was set at α = 0.05. RESULTS: Compared with Y-raise exercise without IAD, the muscle activity of UT and SA decreased (p = 0.001 and p = 0.003, respectively), whereas that of LT increased (p = 0.038) during Y-raise exercise with IAD. Additionally, the activity ratio of LT/UT and LT/SA was greater during Y-raise exercise with IAD (p = 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Y-raise exercise with IAD using Thera-Band is recommended as an efficient exercise to selectively activate the LT and increase the activity ratio of LT/UT and LT/SA. Organic solar cells (OSCs) using non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) afford exceptional photovoltaic performance metrics, however, their stability remains a significant challenge. Existing OSC stability studies focus on understanding degradation rate-performance relationships, improving interfacial layers, and suppressing degradative chemical reaction pathways. Nevertheless, there is a knowledge gap concerning how such degradation affects crystal structure, electronic states, and recombination dynamics that ultimately impact NFA performance. Here we seek a quantitative relationship between OSC metrics and blend morphology, trap density of states, charge carrier mobility, and recombination processes during the UV-light-induced degradation of PBDB-TF:Y6 inverted solar cells as the PCE (power conversion efficiency) falls from 17.3 to 5.0%. Temperature-dependent electrical and impedance measurements reveal deep traps at 0.48 eV below the conduction band that are unaffected by Y6 degradation, and shallow traps at 0.15 eV below the conduction band that undergo a three-fold density of states increase at the PCE degradation onset. Computational analysis correlates vinyl oxidation with a new trap state at 0.25 eV below the conduction band, likely involving charge transfer from the UV-absorbing ZnO electron transport layer. In situ integrated photocurrent analysis and transient absorption spectroscopy reveal that these traps lower electron mobility and increase recombination rates during degradation. Grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering and computational analysis reveal that the degraded Y6 crystallite morphology is largely preserved but that <1% of degraded Y6 molecules cause OSC PCE performance degradation by ≈50%. Together the detailed electrical, impedance, morphological, ultrafast spectroscopic, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-ToF) spectroscopy, and computational data reveal that the trap state energies and densities accompanying Y6 vinyl oxidation are primarily responsible for the PCE degradation in these operating NFA-OSCs. Reversible computation is very important to minimize energy dissipation and prevent information loss not only in quantum computing but also in digital computing. Therefore, interest in designing efficient universal logic gates has recently increased. In this study, we efficiently design the Fredkin gate (FRG), a well-known conservative reversible operation gate, using quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA), and propose a D-latch using it. The proposed FRG structure can be designed efficiently using the structure of a QCA multiplexer using cell interaction, and a symmetric structure was designed. The proposed structure was simulated using QCADesigner 2.0.3 and QCADesigner-E for accurate comparison of various performance metrics, and the proposed structure clearly shows superiority in most performances and two representative design costs. Despite the rapid development of Pb‐based perovskites, the presence of toxic Pb and insufficient stability remain discouraging factors for the commercialization of perovskite solar cells. Therefore, research on Pb‐free absorbers exhibiting long‐term stability is required. Herein, AgBi(I1−xBrx)4 thin films having a hexagonal rudorffite structure were fabricated using a solution process in ambient atmosphere for cost‐effective and environmentally benign photovoltaics. Br substitution increases the grain size and results in a pinhole‐free morphology. Furthermore, photoluminescence analyses confirm that Br substitution reduces the trap‐state density. Consequently, device efficiency is enhanced through Br substitution. Importantly, Br substitution results in considerably improved device stability, with devices maintaining 80 % of their initial efficiency for 26 days in ambient atmosphere without encapsulation. BackgroundMethodsResultConclusionsThe effects of pelvic tilt control using visual biofeedback on gluteus maximus (GM), multifidus (MF), and hamstring (HAM) muscle activities during bridge exercises involving anterior pelvic tilt (APT), neutral pelvic tilt (NPT), and posterior pelvic tilt (PPT) were investigated.Twenty-five healthy participants were included (mean age, 24.6 ± 1.9 years). Visual biofeedback was used for the participants to self-control pelvic tilt during the bridge exercises. Pelvic tilt controls were performed in a random order (APT vs. NPT vs. PPT) following 30 minutes education program. GM, MF, and HAM muscle activities were measured by surface electromyography. One-way repeated analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc test were used.GM and MF muscle activities significantly differed among the different pelvic tilting controls (APT vs. NPT vs. PPT) (p < .017). GM muscle activity during the exercise involving PPT was significantly higher than that involving APT and NPT (p < .017). In contrast, MF muscle activity during the exercise involving PPT was significantly lower than that involving APT (p < .017). In addition, the GM/Right MF, GM/Left MF, and GM/HAM muscle activity ratios during the exercise involving PPT were significantly greater than those involving APT and NPT (p < .017).The bridge exercise involving PPT using visual biofeedback can be recommended as a home exercise to selectively improve the muscle activity of the GM and the muscle activity ratio of the GM/HAM and GM/MF. BACKGROUND: Sedentary work may lead to low back pain. In particular, a slumped sitting position may exacerbate low back pain because of tissue damage caused by excessive lumbar flexion and posterior pelvic tilting. Subjects with low back pain may have excessive changes in the lumbopelvic posture and back muscle activity in the sitting position. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of vibration-based biofeedback using a motion sensor belt and no biofeedback on multifidus (MF) muscle activity and pelvic tilt angle during typing. METHODS: Thirty subjects with low back pain accompanied by hip flexion limitation (15 each in the biofeedback and non-biofeedback groups) were enrolled. Electromyography was used to investigate MF muscle activity before and after typing for 30 min. Pelvic tilt was measured after typing in a sitting position for 30 min. Independent t-tests were used to compare MF muscle activity, and pelvic and second sacrum tilt angles, between the biofeedback and non-biofeedback groups. RESULTS: After typing for 30 min, changes in MF muscle activity (11.45% and - 7.19% for the biofeedback and nonbiofeedback groups, respectively) and pelvic and second sacrum tilt angles (3.15 ∘ and 4.12 ∘ for the biofeedback group and - 11.05 ∘ and - 18.16 ∘ for the non-biofeedback group, respectively) were significantly smaller in the biofeedback than non-biofeedback group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Vibration-based biofeedback minimizes the reduction in MF muscle activity and changes in pelvic and second sacrum tilt angles during typing in individuals with low back pain accompanied by hip flexion limitation. BACKGROUND: Normal alignment of the foot is important because the feet support the body's weight. The intrinsic muscles of the foot mainly maintain the alignment and movement of the foot, whereas the abductor hallucis (AbdH) aligns the first metatarsophalangeal joint and maintains the medial longitudinal arch. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to investigate the muscle activity of the AbdH and hallux valgus (HV) angle during three different foot exercises. METHODS: Participants included 15 subjects aged 20–24 years with mild HV. All subjects performed three different foot exercises in random order: short foot exercise (SF), toe spread out exercise (TSO), and TSO with a pressure bio-feedback unit (TSOP). The muscle activity of the AbdH and the HV angle were measured during each foot exercise using surface electromyography and X-ray and then compared using one-way repeated-measures analysis of variance, followed by Bonferroni adjustment. RESULTS: AbdH muscle activity differed significantly among SF, TSO, and TSOP. AbdH muscle activity was greater in TSOP (89.60%) than in SF (19.99%) and TSO (60.96%) (p = 0.006). The HV angle was significantly smaller in TSOP (15.72 ∘) than in SF (18.85 ∘) and TSO (16.81 ∘) (p = 0.001).
