We propose a procedure-based definition of cancer status in patients with breast-, lung- and colorectal cancer, which can be applied to administrative health databases. New definitions of cancer status are needed as mortality and morbidity are closely linked to cancer status, yet most studies only use duration since cancer diagnosis as a severity marker. The aim of the study was to validate a new pragmatic definition.Methods: Medical journals of 600 patients, with breast-, lung- and colorectal cancer from the Department of Oncology at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. We defined active cancer as a cancer diagnosis, not followed by a potentially curative procedure within 6 months of the diagnosis. The remaining patients were characterized as having non-active cancer. This dichotomization was then compared to a cancer status assessment based on treatment received and paraclinical test such as their first post-procedural control scan. Based on this comparison, we calculated the positive predictive value (PPV) of our definitions of active and non-active cancer.Results: The calculated PPVs for active breast-, lung- and colorectal cancer were 87% (CI 95%: 0.74– 0.99), 91% (CI 95%: 0.87– 0.96) and 82% (CI 95%: 0.73– 0.91). The PPVs for non-active breast-, lung- and colorectal cancer were 95% (CI 95%: 0.92– 0.99), 91% (CI 95%: 0.82– 0.99) and 73% (CI 95%: 0.66– 0.81), respectively.Conclusion: We found an overall high PPV for both active and non-active cancer across all three types of cancer.Keywords: active cancer, non-active cancer, DNPR, validation, epidemiology

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of hereditary connective tissue disorders which are clinically characterized by hypermobility of joints, hyperelasticity of skin and tissue insufficiency, sometimes leading to herniation, bleeding, and organ rupture. This is a case report of a 55-year-old man with EDS and a big bladder diverticulum in which we discuss treatment strategy in patients with EDS and bladder diverticula. Initially, treatment approach should be conservative due to high recurrence rates and potential complications following surgical procedures. Invasive procedures - preferably minimally invasive - may be indicated, based on an individual risk evaluation.

Background: Licensed vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 effectively protect against severe disease, but display incomplete protection against virus transmission. Mucosal vaccines providing immune responses in the upper airways are one strategy to protect against transmission., Methods: We administered Spike HexaPro trimer formulated in a cationic liposomal adjuvant as a parenteral (subcutaneous - s.c.) prime - intranasal boost regimen to elicit airway mucosal immune responses and evaluated this in a Syrian hamster model of virus transmission., Findings: Parenteral prime - intranasal boost elicited high-magnitude serum neutralizing antibody responses and IgA responses in the upper respiratory tract. The vaccine strategy protected against virus in the lower airways and lung pathology, but virus could still be detected in the upper airways. Despite this, the parenteral prime - intranasal booster vaccine effectively protected against onward SARS-CoV-2 transmission., Interpretation: This study suggests that parenteral-prime mucosal boost is an effective strategy for protecting against SARS-CoV-2 infection and highlights that protection against virus transmission may be obtained despite incomplete clearance of virus from the upper respiratory tract. Lowland streams are usually affected by river engineering works that produce the loss of habitat heterogeneity. Our aim was to assess the transplantation of macrophytes with different complexity into a lowland stream which was dredged and widened. Stuckenia pectinata and Hydrocleys nymphoides were collected at an extraction site and installed at a transplant site. The growth and coverage of macrophytes beds were quantified. Taxonomic richness, Shannon-Wiener diversity, abundance, composition and proportion of functional feeding groups of the macroinvertebrate assemblage presented in macrophyte beds were assessed between sites and species. The growth of both macrophytes did not differ significantly between sites and the coverage of transplanted beds increased, therefore they established at the transplant site within a short period. Regarding to macroinvertebrate assemblage, only the functional feeding groups did not show differences between sites. Moreover, the proportion of predators presented differences between macrophytes at the same site, with H. nymphoides having a higher proportion. Our study showed that this technique is suitable for reintroducing these species and is applicable in rehabilitation projects that promote the restoration of habitat heterogeneity deteriorated by river engineering works. Also, we highlight the importance of incorporate macroinvertebrate functional traits to assess the ecological status after rehabilitation.
