A computer model has been developed to calculate centralized spacings of cemented wells. The calculations will be used as basis for evaluating the efficiency of the cement jobs. The casing deflection between centralizers were computed using new Application Programming Interface fixed-end equations because they require fewer centralizer requirements. Abstract

The article discusses an analysis method for stress-concentration factor in rotary-shouldered connections used in oil well drilling. The method in this study uses finite-element analysis as a tool to investigate the maximum peak-stress behavior in rotary-shouldered connections. It compares maximum peak-stress behaviors and stress-concentration factor values among rotary-shouldered connections. Furthermore, the paper describes the stress-concentration factor in rotary-shouldered connections and offers a discussion regarding the stress-concentration factor-analysis method.

Abstract

The article focuses on the drilling projects of Chevron Corp. in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) that used a new generation of double-shoulder drill pipe connection. Chevron's use of the third-generation dual-shoulder connection in the high-cost deepwater GOM environment has yielded about 287,000 dollars in savings on the first four wells and an improvement in repair rates and costs. As stated, the key to realizing these savings was a focused effort to train rig crews on best practices.

Abstract

The article presents information on the historical changes in drilling practices, development of drillstem hardbanding materials, and their shortfalls in meeting the industry's needs. Advanced nanotechnology and a systematic design approach enabled the manipulation of material properties to yield a spall-resistant hardband that offers superb drillstem wear resistance and casing wear protection while reducing friction. It took more than sixty years since the initial development of hardfacing materials for the industry to respond to the new challenges and come up with new alternatives to tungsten carbide.
