1. Tunable Magneto-Dielectric Material for Electrically Small and Reconfigurable Antenna Systems at Vhf Band

Abstract: The main issue to tune controlled devices by the application of a DC magnetic field comes up against the high value of the field’s intensity required for their implementation. This work presents an implementation of magneto-dielectric materials (MDM) specifically manufactured for their integration in antenna devices operating in VHF band. The twofold objective is: (i) reduction in antenna size, (ii) frequency tuning of the antenna using a low intensity magnetic control. A notable permeability variation of MDM samples is observed when the symmetry of the lines of the control field, with an intensity less than 10 Oe, is consistent with the one of the structures in the magnetic domains. The MDM allows a miniaturization of 20% of an inverted-F antenna (IFA) antenna structure, and an agility of about 2.5% for a control field of 1.5 Oe.

2. New Manufacturing Process for Granular Texture Management in Polycrystalline BaM Hexaferrites through the Goethite Crystallite Laths Aspect Ratio, and a Specialized Law of Approach to the Magnetic Saturation for Partly Polarized Uniaxial Materials

Abstract: This study is aimed at the manufacture and the magnetic properties of polycrystalline M-type hexaferrites BaFe12O19 (barium ferrite, or BaM) materials of different magnetic texturing grades, going from a random distribution of the BaM crystallites to their almost complete stacking. Our target is to optimize the value of reduced-remanence magnetization MR/MS, which is among the most significant features of the self-polarized materials. In this study, we focus on the role played by the precursors hematite (isotropic spherical shape) and goethite (anisotropic lath shape). Therefore, 11 samples with a flat cylinder shape are fabricated, with an increasing hematite to goethite ratio. We demonstrate that this ratio drives the texturization of the samples by producing self-polarized materials with different MR/MS from the simple green compaction of the precursors, followed by a heat treatment. Most importantly, our study reveals the orientation of BaM particles after compaction; therefore, MR/MS, is strongly influenced by the aspect ratio of the lath-shaped goethite crystallites. Additionally, we show that finer goethite crystallites yield higher-value MR/MS. We optimize the aspect ratio of the goethite crystallites for an improved BaM texture. The optimization of the morphology of the goethite crystallites leads to an increase in the BaM particles’ orientation and stacking. The salient outcome of this work, which distinguishes it significantly from recent works, is that the particles stacking increases with the value of the shape factor η (defined as the ratio of the diameter of the laths to their length) of the goethite, evidenced by XRD results. The Rietveld refinements of powder diffractograms and the measured magnetic properties reveal a particle-stacking enhancement caused by not only the ratio of hematite: goethite but mainly by an optimal aspect ratio of the goethite crystallites. Based on this study, the BaM materials are further manufactured with a controlled magnetic texture; thus, they are partly self-polarized. They show reduced-remanence magnetization MR/MS varying from 0.5 and 0.81, while the angular dispersion of the BaM particles’ easy axis of magnetization varies from 60° to 10°. The magnetic properties of the samples are further studied in microwave experiments, from which the value of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy field HK = 16.6 kOe is deduced. The first magnetization curves of each sample are obtained using a VSM. A law of approach to the saturation suitable for the case of the uniaxial polycrystalline materials, and for which the particle stacking is only partial, is proposed for the fitting of the magnetization process. It is suggested that by using the proposed law with a known magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant K1, the angular grain-dispersion can be found.

Abstract: This article deals with the design and fabrication of compact self-biased $Q$ -band circulators. A pre-oriented substituted strontium hexaferrite that has a high anisotropy field was used to design a planar circulator at 38 GHz. The component has been measured in the 32–40 GHz frequency band at different temperatures. Measured insertion loss as low as 0.45 dB together with a high isolation level has been demonstrated. Moreover, the component demonstrated a quite stable temperature behavior. However, a slight shift toward low frequencies is observed compared to the simulation. Retro-simulations showed that small variations of the metallic strips’ dimensions induce significant S-parameters changes. These experimental results demonstrate that substituted strontium hexaferrites have a high potential for the realization of ultra-compact $Q$ -band circulator but also that the metallization process resolution is crucial for performance reproducibility.

Abstract: Sm doped Ba–Co hexaferrite with composition BaCo 0.8 Sm x Fe (11.2−x) O 19 ( x =0.2, 0.4 and 0.6) were prepared via a citrate precursor method. After appropriate heat treatments, the ferrite samples were characterised by using different measurement techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the formation of M phase with an average crystallite size of 35–45 nm. Observed tensile strain leads to the elongation of Ba–Co grains and was calculated using Williamson Hall plot. Surface morphology of these samples was studied by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). σ – H loops of these samples were measured at room temperature up to an applied field of 22,000 Oe using vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). With an increase in concentration of Sm ions in Ba–Co lattice, specific saturation magnetisation ( σ s ), coercivity ( H c ) and retentivity ( σ r ) values were found to decrease. At x =0.2, excellent values of H c (2690.20 Oe) and squareness ratio (SQR=0.5619) were simultaneously found. These parameters make this material a promising candidate for the applications such as high density magnetic recording and enhanced memory storage.

Abstract: A series of Co2+ substituted Li0.5CoxFe2.5−xO4 (x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5) has been prepared by a citrate precursor method. The distribution of cations on A-site and B-site was studied by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Mossbauer Spectroscopy. XRD confirmed the formation of ordered α-phase with prominent peaks at (220), (311), (400), (422), (511), (440). SEM and TEM confirmed the homogeneous formation of cubic phase with an average crystallite size of 50 nm. From FTIR studies, the bands at 603.78, 606.14 and 610.08 cm−1 confirmed the formation of Fe3+–O2− bond at tetrahedral (A-site), whereas bands at 477.25, 474.84 and 471.69 cm−1 confirmed the formation of Fe3+–O2− bond at octahedral site (B-site); shifting in frequency was observed with an increased amount of cobalt doping. Further, Raman spectra revealed the distribution of cations at tetrahedral and octahedral site by means of modes A1g, T2g, Eg. Mossbauer spectra with two magnetic sextets confirmed two different environments of Fe3+ ions. With an increase in cobalt doping, the crystallite size was observed to increase and hence an increase in relative area B/A ratio confirming the occupancy of Co2+ at B-site. The temperature dependence of DC resistivity was found to decrease with an increase in temperature. With an increase in cobalt substitution, DC resistivity was observed to increase from 2.32 × 106 to 3.46 × 107 Ω cm. A decrease in activation energy is noticed in the present investigation and this observed semiconducting behavior makes these nanomaterials suitable in NTC (negative temperature coefficient) devices. These observations were explained on various models and theories.

Abstract: Tungsten substituted nickel-zinc ferrite nanoparticles with chemical composition of Ni0.5Zn0.5WxFe2-xO4 (x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 & 1.0) were successfully synthesized by a chemical co-precipitation method. The prepared ferrites were pre sintered at 850 °C and then annealed at 1000 °C in a muffle furnace for 3 h each. This sintered powder was inspected by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) to study the structural, optical, and magnetic properties. XRD measurement revealed the phase purity of all the nanoferrite samples with cubic spinel structure. The estimated crystallite size by X-ray line broadening is found in the range of 49–62 nm. FTIR spectra of all the samples have observed two prominent absorption bands in the range 400–700 cm−1 arising due to tetrahedral and octahedral stretching vibrations. Vibrating sample magnetometer experiments showed that the saturation magnetizations ( M S ) decreased with an increase in non-magnetic tungsten ion doping. The electrical resistivity of tungsten doped Ni Zn nano ferrites were examined extensively as a function of temperature. With an increase in tungsten composition, resistivity was found to decrease from 2.2 × 105 Ω cm to 1.9 × 105 Ω cm which indicates the semiconducting behavior of the ferrite samples. The activation energy also decreased from 0.0264 to 0.0221 eV at x = 0.0 to x = 1.0. These low coercive field tungsten doped Ni Zn ferrites are suitable for hyperthermia and sensor applications. These observations are explained in detail on the basis of various models and theories.

Abstract: This paper dealt with the determination—at room temperature—of two contributions to the total anisotropy field $H_{A}$ of soft ferrite-based composite materials. These contributions ( $H_{K}$ and $H_{\sigma })$ came from the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and from the magnetoelasticity, respectively. The values of $H_{A}$ were determined through microwave measurements of the permeability [ferromagnetic resonance method (FMR)] and also through a static method [singular point detection method (SPD)]. The contributions of $H_{K}$ and $H_{\sigma }$ were experimentally distinguished and separated and their values interpreted. The results obtained from these two methods compare well. The values of $H_{K}$ are consistent with the published data. The ability of the SPD method to determine induced anisotropy fields in materials textured by external stress is highlighted. The FMR method appeared to be more precise in measuring $H_{A}$ , $H_{K}$ , and $H_{\sigma }$ , in reason of some inaccuracies coming from the sensitivity of the SPD method to demagnetizing effects. However, and unlike the FMR method, the SPD method is believed to be applicable to further temperature measurements of anisotropy fields.

Abstract: International audience; This work investigates electromagnetic properties of half-dense ceramics with compositions Ni 0.5 Zn 0.3 Co 0.2 Fe y O 4-d where y = 1.98 (Iron deficient, noted ID) or y = 2.3 (Iron in excess, noted IE). IE and ID materials are obtained by chemical coprecipitation route. The obtained nano-sized powders are pressed and annealed at two temperatures (800 °C, 900 °C), so has to obtain half-massive ceramics. Ferrous and ferric ions coexist in the crystalline structures, but the former in a less extend for ID ferrite. The concomitant influences of Fe 2+ and Fe 3+ on the dielectric and magnetic losses (e 00 /e 0 and m 00 /m 0 , respectively) are considered at frequency up to 6 GHz. The permeability dispersion changes from relaxation-like to resonance-like with the decrease in ferrous ions. In reason of the relaxing-like behavior of Fe 2+ , and because of a relatively high amount in Fe 2+ , IE sample shows lower total losses (magnetic and dielectric) than ID sample. These conclusions applied for T A = 900 °C. At frequencies above 700 MHz, the total loss values (IE and ID samples) are prohibitive for antenna downsizing whatever is the firing temperature value (800 °C and 900 °C). Whereas at frequencies below 700 MHz Ni 0.5 Zn 0.3 Co 0.2 Fe 2.3 O 4+d may leads to better antenna performances than Ni 0.5 Zn 0.3 Co 0.2 Fe 1.98 O 4-d .

The structural, morphological, optical and magnetic properties of these samples were studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy (RS) and Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS). XRD revealed the formation of spinel single-phase structure with an average crystallite size of 53–60 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy show two prominent peaks primarily due to the tetrahedral and octahedral stretching vibrations in the range of 400–600 cm−1. Raman spectra indicate first order three Raman active modes; (A1 g + Eg + T2 g) at around 688, 475 and 326 cm−1. Mössbauer spectroscopy reveals that substitution of W3+ for Fe3+ cation results in reduction of total magnetic moment and consequently the net magnetization.

Abstract: A series of cobalt substituted lithium ferrite Li0.5CoxFe2.5−xO4 with x=0, 0.2, 0.4 was prepared by a chemical technique called citrate precursor method. In this technique citric acid was used as a reducing agent. Structural, morphological, topographical, optical, electrical, and magnetic properties were studied by using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, DC resistivity, Mossbauer Spectroscopy. XRD patterns showed characteristic (2 2 0), (3 1 1), (4 0 0), (4 2 2), (5 1 1), (4 4 0) peaks which confirmed the inverse spinel phase. SEM and TEM support the formation of cubic nanoparticles. FTIR studies reported the ferrite peaks between 400 cm−1 and 800 cm−1 confirming the inverse spinel structure. Five optical Raman modes (A1g+Eg+3F2g), characteristics of the cubic spinel structure with (P4332) space group are also observed. Electrical DC resistivity studied from room temperature to 300 °C showed the semiconducting behavior of lithium ferrite. Porosity, transition temperature and activation energy are found to decrease with cobalt ion concentration. The room temperature Mossbauer spectra of all the samples showed normal Zeeman Splitting sextets supporting the formation of ferromagnetic phase. With increase in cobalt content, the value of hyperfine field at A site is found to vary from 53.15 to 54.96 T whereas at B site it vary from 54.79 to 52.82 T. The obtained results have been explained based on possible mechanisms, models and theories.

Abstract: Miniaturization of patch antenna using composite ferrite (Ni0.5Zn0.3Co0.2Fe2O4 + BaFe12O19) is proposed in this paper. Substrate material was prepared using a wet chemical method and characterized for its structural and electromagnetic properties. Matching values of complex permittivity (e* = 4.5 + 0.1 j) and complex permeability (μ* = 4.6 + 0.3 j) at 500 MHz were obtained from the electromagnetic characterization. Simulation result showed that matching and greater than unity value of both permittivity and permeability can reduce the size of antenna by almost 55%. Normalized characteristic impedance close to unity (∼1.022) was observed in the synthesized nano ferrite composites. This results in better impedance matching of the substrate with the surrounding space. Reflection loss was found to decrease (from −28 dB to −35 dB) and bandwidth increases (1.6–6%) over pure dielectric substrate. Therefore, composite ferrite is proposed as suitable candidate for effective miniaturization of antenna in microwave frequency range.

Abstract: This paper describes the first electromagnetic characterization of a self-biased circulator in molded interconnect device (MID) technology. The circulator was designed using a 3D full-wave commercial simulator. It consists of microstrip access lines connected to a Y-junction in Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) technology. Unlike classical technologies, the SIW Y-junction was not fabricated using metallic vias but by a Laser Direct Structuring (LDS) technique. A molded Cyclo-Olefin Polymer (COP) was used as a substrate and 3D metallized. The microwave properties of LDS-compatible COP are not well known so we investigated them through the use of cavity-perturbation and rectangular waveguide characterization methods. The device was then machined to insert a pre-oriented strontium hexaferrite puck doped with cobalt and lanthanum (Sr0,7La0,3Fe11,7Co0,3O19). The characteristics of the MID circulator were assessed between 28 and 32 GHz. Without magnets, insertion losses of 3.32 dB were measured at 30.7 GHz. At the same frequency, an isolation level of 13.89 dB and return losses of 19.89 dB were observed. These measurements demonstrate for the first time the high potential of MID technology for the realization of low-cost non-reciprocal devices.

Abstract: International audience; Nano crystalline Ni–Zn ferrites of composition Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4have been prepared by a chemical co-precipitation method. The powdered samples were sintered at a temperature of 800 °C and 900 °C for three hours. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy were used to study their structural and morphological changes. The enhanced magnetic properties were investigated by using a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). The saturation magnetization was found to increase from 73.88 to 89.50 emu/g as a function of sintering temperature making this material useful for high frequency applications. Electromagnetic studies showed sustained values of permittivity up to 1 GHz. These results have been explained on the basis of various models and theories.

Abstract: International audience; In this letter, the impact of a magneto-dielectric resonator on a DVB-H antenna is investigated. A frequency reconfigurable antenna using a folded monopole antenna structure and varactor diodes is proposed. Two different designs are realized with and without the resonator. A measured instantaneous -6-dB bandwidth wider than 8 MHz is obtained continuously between 470 and 862 MHz for both prototypes. Design methodology is described. Measured return loss, gain, directivity, and radiation pattern are presented for different frequencies.

Abstract: The inner demagnetizing factor Ni of polymer bonded soft magnetic composites (PBSMC) varying in filler material and filler content C was measured, using a computer controlled measurement system. For all materials the results show a decrease from an inner demagnetizing factor close to the demagnetizing factor of a single particle to Ni ≈ 0 by increasing the magnetic content C. Abstract: The electromagnetic analysis of a Y-junction circulator proposed here is more realistic than the conventional one, as it accounts for two aspects that are usually neglected despite their frequent occurrence in practice: 1) the nonuniformity of the dc-bias field met in planar technology and 2) the introduction of a tensor to take into account all the magnetization states of the ferrite material. Slicing the ferrite sample into concentric zones allows us to consider the radial variation of the bias field in the electromagnetic calculation. A magnetostatic calculation of the internal field provides the true internal field within each region of the ferrite disk. We replace the Polder tensor, which describes only one specific magnetization state of the material, with another tensor that allows the true magnetization of the ferrite rings to be taken into account.

Abstract: A miniature reconfigurable PIFA antenna (Printed-Inverted-F-Antenna) is investigated in this paper. This antenna is printed on magneto-dielectric substrate. The tunability is achieved by the application of an external DC magnetic biasing field, thanks to the field-dependent permeability of the substrate. In order to design this antenna a modeling tool is implemented. It consists in coupling a magnetic material model and EM simulator. The “General Permeability Tensor” (GPT) model is used in order to determine the permeability tensor whatever the magnetization state of the substrate is. The coupling of the GPT model with an electromagnetic simulator (CST Microwave Studio R ®) allows for the complete description of microwave characteristics of the antenna. The confrontation between the measurement and simulation for different applied DC biasing fields allows enhancing and validating the theoretical approach developed.

Abstract: Spinel ferrite Ni0.5Zn0.3Co0.2Fe1.98O4x nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method, and samples were realized by moulding and annealing at key temperatures (TM¼800 C, 900 C, 1050 C, determined beforehand through shrinkage measurements) going with calcining and sintering processes. Annealing at 800 C and 900 C led to half-dense ceramics (porosity 50 vol. %), whereas bulky ferrite was obtained after annealing at 1050 C. Elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction and ion chromatography analysis were performed. Complex dielectric permittivity (e*) and magnetic permeability (l*) were investigated up to 6 GHz. With increasing TM, a decreasing amount of Fe2þ was observed, going with increasing sample density. Coupled effects of the Fe2þ concentration and of the porosity, both on dielectric and magnetic properties, were chiefly investigated and discussed. The materials show almost constant permittivities (e0 ¼5.0, 6.0, and 14.8 for TM¼800 C, 900 C and 1050 C, respectively). The bulk value at f¼1 GHz (e0 ¼14.8) can be interpreted well according to Shannon’s theory. The permittivities of the half-dense ceramics are discussed on the basis of Bruggeman’s Effective Medium Theory. The materials annealed at 800 degC and 900 degC show almost constant magnetic permeabilities in the frequency range from 0.2 to 1GHz (l0 ¼3.4 and 6.0 for TM¼800 degC and 900 degC). Abstract: This study investigates the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants (K 1 ) and the saturation magnetostriction constants ( λ S ) of Ni 1− x Zn x Fe 2 O 4 (NiZn) and Ni 0.8− x Zn x Co 0.2 Fe 1.98 O 4−δ (NiZnCo) ferrites intended to be used for antenna downsizing. Composite materials constituted of soft ferrite nanosized particles (NiZn or NiZnCo ferrites) embedded in an epoxy matrix are realized. Measurements of their magnetic permeability in the frequency range of 200 MHz–6 GHz are performed. The influence of compressive stress (in the range of 32–96 MPa) on their Ferrimagnetic Resonance (FMR) is demonstrated. An analytical modeling of stress-induced FMR changes is proposed that allows simultaneous determinations of the Natural Ferrimagnetic Resonance (NFMR, F 0 ), K 1 and λ S of Ni 1− x Zn x Fe 2 O 4 and Ni 0.8− x Zn x Co 0.2 Fe 1.98 O 4−δ ferrites. The obtained results for NiZn ferrites are in agreement with literature data, validating both the experimental process and the proposed modeling of the stress-induced FMR changes. Regarding NiZnCo ferrites, extended data on K 1 and λ S are presented for the first time. Increasing zinc content (x) induces a spin disorder that reduces in a same time K 1 and the magnetization at saturation M S . The rapid variation of K 1 (x) is related to that of the magnetization M S (x) through a power law. The single-ion anisotropy model allows a satisfactory interpretation of K 1 dependence on zinc content. The unexpected low values of λ S got for NiZnCo ferrites, compared to those got for NiZn ferrites, are also discussed. Application of compressive stress lowers noticeably magnetic losses of Ni 0.6 Zn 0.2 Co 0.2 Fe 1.98 O 4−δ at given frequency, thereby enhancing the ability of this spinel ferrite to be used as a substrate in the aim of antenna miniaturization.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents an ultracompact antenna design suited for digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) reception devices. The DVB-H frequency band is ranging from 4 70 to 862 MHz and divided in 49 channels of 8 MHz. Designed to be integrated in a tablet, it is not only heavily miniaturized (λ0 /49 × λ0/71 ×λ0/160 at 470 MHz), but also able to cover each channel thanks to the use of a magneto-dielectric material. The advantage of using such a material is studied and described in this paper. Moreover, the operating frequency is continuously tuned over the whole DVB-H band by the integration of a varactor diode. This varactor diode has been characterized and modeled to properly cosimulate its behavior within the antenna. Limitations in terms of accepted power by the diode are emphasizing. Finally, the antenna design, including both magneto-dielectric material and varactor diode is integrated in the DVB-H receiver device. Measurement performances are presented and discussed.

Abstract: National audience; Cette étude se situe dans la problématique de la miniaturisation d'antennes dans le domaine de fréquences 470-862MHz, correspondant à la norme DVB-H. Dans cet objectif les propriétés magnétostrictives de ferrites de Ni-Zn sont mises à profit pour étendre jusqu'à 1 GHz leur potentialité d'application comme substrats d'antennes. Les matériaux réalisés présentent des tangentes de pertes magnétiques qui restent inférieures à 5.10-2 dans la gamme de fréquence 100MHZ-1GHz, avec une perméabilité constante et un indice optique proche de 3 pour le matériau présenté Cette valeur pourra être aisément augmentée jusqu'à 4,5 environ. Ces propriétés prédisposent ces matériaux aux applications dans le domaine UHF.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, we present a frequency reconfigurable antenna for digital video broadcasting on handheld devices standard. By loading a printed inverted F antennas with a varactor diode, the resonance frequency can be tuned from 470 to 862 MHz. Furthermore, a magneto dielectric superstrate is used to reduce the dimension of the antenna while keeping a large bandwidth. To study the performance improvement due to the magneto‐dielectric resonator,a comparison is performed with a reference antenna without magneto‐dielectric superstrate. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: New magneto-dielectric material with improved electromagnetic properties in UHF band is manufactured. These electromagnetic properties, in particular the low levels of losses, show that this material could be useful to the design of miniaturized antennas in the VHF-UHF (300MHz-700MHz) range of frequency. This new material has been used to load a small coplanar slot antenna. Performances of the antenna as well as the new material is presented and compared with commercial magnetodielectric materials.

Abstract: National audience; Les travaux de recherche pour la miniaturisation d'antennes, utilisant de nouveaux matériaux, se sont intensifiés ces dernières années, et notamment avec l'utilisation de matériaux possédant des propriétés magnétiques. La miniaturisation des antennes imprimées est rendue possible en chargeant le volume de l'antenne avec des matériaux à haute permittivité [ ], ferroélectriques [ ], ferromagnétiques [ ], magnéto-diélectriques [ , , ], etc. Plus traditionnellement, les diélectriques présentant une permittivité élevée ont été employés pour diminuer les dimensions physiques de l'élément rayonnant [ ]. Les problèmes souvent rencontrés avec les substrats de haute permittivité sont, par exemple, la dégradation de la bande passante et du gain et donc l'efficacité de l'antenne. L'utilisation de matériaux magnétiques serait une solution intéressante pour la miniaturisation d'antennes sans dégrader les performances grâce à la valeur importante de la perméabilité. Or à ce jour, malgré les progrès technologiques importants réalisés sur les matériaux ferrites doux, ceux-ci sont utilisés principalement en basse fréquence pour la réalisation de dispositifs non réciproques (circulateurs, isolateurs) ou de circuits accordables (filtres, déphaseurs...). Dans la bande UHF, leurs pertes élevées, liées à une contribution des déplacements de parois séparant les domaines magnétiques, excluent leur utilisation comme substrat d'antennes imprimées. Dans ce travail, nous développons un nouveau matériau magnéto-diélectrique pour l'application antennaire. Ses performances sont comparées à celles d'un matériau disponible dans le commerce.

Abstract: National audience; Face à la miniaturisation et devant la volonté d'intégrer un nombre toujours plus important de nouvelles applications au sein d'un même terminal mobile, la diminution de la taille de l'antenne devient un enjeu important. Les dimensions de l'antenne étant inversement proportionnelles à , la diminution de la taille de l'antenne passe généralement par l'utilisation de matériaux purement diélectriques à forte permittivité [1], ceci au détriment des performances de l'antenne notamment de sa bande passante [2]. Cependant, la bande passante, peut être améliorée par l'utilisation de matériaux associant une perméabilité magnétique à une permittivité diélectrique [3, 4]. L'objectif de notre travail est de montrer que l'utilisation de tels matériaux magnéto-diélectriques permet de remédier à cette réduction de bande passante dans le cas d'une chip antenna. Dans ce cadre, une antenne intégrant un matériau magnétodiélectrique est présentée. Une première partie sera consacrée à la description du matériau utilisé. Une seconde partie montrera la structure de l'antenne tout en mettant en évidence l'avantage d'utiliser un matériau magnéto diélectrique. Nous présenterons et discuterons des résultats obtenus en simulation.

Abstract: National audience; En raison du développement des terminaux mobiles pour la bande UHF-V (300MHz-700MHz), il existe une forte demande pour la réalisation d'antennes miniatures destinées à ces applications [1-5]. En effet les dimensions des antennes actuellement disponibles sont trop importantes pour permettre leur intégration, et les techniques qui permettent de réduire ces dimensions conduisent à une certaine dégradation de leurs performances [6]. Des travaux récents sur la miniaturisation des antennes imprimées, basée sur l'utilisation de substrats à fort indice de réfraction, ont montré l'intérêt des matériaux magnétiques pour l'amélioration des performances (bande passante, efficacité) [2]. Une piste que nous avons retenu pour atteindre cet objectif de miniaturisation consiste à employer des matériaux magnéto-diélectriques, qui allient une perméabilité magnétique à une permittivité diélectrique, tout en conservant des niveaux de pertes acceptables dans une bande de fréquence comprise entre 0.1 GHz et 1 GHz typiquement.

Abstract: Ferrite nanoparticles with a composition of Ni0.5Zn0.3Co0.2Fe2O4 were prepared by a coprecipitation method. The sample obtained after treating at appropriating conditions had almost equal real permeability and permittivity, of 4.8+j0.15 (loss tangent∼0.04) and 4.9+j0.10 (loss tangent∼0.018), respectively, over 100 to 500 MHz. This material had a refractive index n of close to 5 and a reduced impedance Z/Z0 of close to 1. These properties make the material useful to the design of miniaturized antennas at very high frequency-ultra high frequency (VHF-UHF) (100–500 MHz) bands.

Abstract: The permeability spectra of composite magnetic materials (NiZn ferrite composites and YIG composites) has been experimentally studied on a wide range in magnetic load C. The resonance frequency decreases with the increasing magnetic load of the mixture. This is attributed to the fading of the magnetic pole on the surface of the magnetic inclusions. A theory is developed which is intended to give an expression for the gyroresonance frequency of magnetic composites in their unsaturated magnetic state. It fits the experimental data over its full range of volume fraction C without any corrective factors. The proposed relation, which is an extension of the Kittel's expression for the resonance frequency of a saturated body, points out a noteworthy close link between the concept of reciprocity and the one of demagnetization.

Abstract: Mosbauer experiments have been performed on natural and synthetic samples of 4C monoclinic pyrrhotite Fe7S8 down to helium temperature. The spectra at 4.2 K are found to be quite different of those obtained at 77 or 300 K and this change is related to the low temperature transition occuring at T t ∾ 30–35 K . Apart from the contributions of residual impurities, five Fe2+ sites, with their six absorption lines, are needed to give a good fit of the helium temperature spectra, while the Bertaut model, with only four sites, can account for the high temperature data.

Abstract: The theoretical approach proposed here was aimed at accurately describing the electromagnetic response of self-biased Y-junction circulators made of polycrystalline hexaferrites. The accuracy of circulator response was enhanced by considering the real magnetization state of the material through a calculation of the permeability tensor; this tensor remains valid whatever the strength of the local effective dc field in the ferrite is. Moreover, the hysteresis phenomenon was introduced in the calculation of tensor through the use of the Stoner and Wolhfart [IEEE Trans. Magn. 27, 3475 (1948)] law; as a consequence, the tensor took into account the privileged direction of easy-axis distribution due to the manufacturing process, which allowed us to treat the polycrystalline hexaferrites as being magnetically self-biased. However, the results issued from our approach indicate that this higher accuracy is at the expense of Y-junction circulator performances, which are far from those reported in the literature or ...

Abstract: International audience; This study provides a behavioural analysis of the particular demagnetizing effects displayed by disordered heterostructures close to a particular value (C p) of their magnetic load C: The emphasis is put on the convergence of evidences, got from several independent ways (experimental, analytical and numerical), of a percolative phenomenon in random distributions of magnetic particles that rules the sharp variations of the inner and outer demagnetizing effects at concentrations close to C p : When CoC p ; magnetic gaps, which originate from the magnetic dilution, may cause a cutoff of the magnetic flux paths in the composite medium, leading to inner demagnetizing effects only. When C > C p ; the delocalization of the magnetic poles leads the outer demagnetizing factor of the sample to switch from zero to its maximum value. The analytical approach of this phenomenon is based on an effective medium theory. It leads to a description of the interactions between magnetic inclusions that show a deep similarity with the main notions the reciprocity principle calls for. r

Abstract: International audience; The paper gives a demonstration of an analytic law which correlates the " effective " susceptibility in composite magnetic materials with the volume fraction in magnetic matter. The relation is built round two basic parameters : the first characterises the nature of the magnetic substance through an intrinsic susceptibility supposed to only be connected to the rotational magnetisation, the second characterises the heterogeneous aspect of the medium through an effective shape factor supposed to take the effects of internal demagnetising fields into account. A special attention is paid here to the latter : starting from a mixture of ellipsoidal particles, we show how the value of this average shape factor can be connected to both shapes and distributions of particles.

Abstract: International audience; The paper shows a successful extension to the high frequencies, namely in the spin resonance regions, of an analytical law firstly proposed to interpret the magnetic properties of soft magnetic composite materials in low fields and in the quasistatic domain. During the first investigations where the frequency did not yet taken into account, it was shown that the effective susceptibility of powder materials was only dependent on three parameters : The magnetic load, the chemical nature of the magnetic compound (through the intrinsic susceptibility) and the internal demagnetizing fields (through the effective shape factor). Dynamic effects were then examined by introducing in the intrinsic susceptibility parameter the dynamic model of Landau and Lifshitz. Experiments carried on soft ferrimagnetic powders (YIG and Ni-Zn spinels) between 10kHz and 20GHz, have led to a total agreement with the analytical law mentioned above.
