Abstract

The main detector system at the Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) located in Dubna, Russia is the Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD). For better calibration reason, the MPD needs an additional trigger system for an off-beam calibration of MPD sub-detectors and for rejection (veto) of cosmic muons. The system should also be useful for practical astrophysics observations of cosmic showers. The consortium NICA-PL group defines goals and basic assumptions for the MPD Cosmic Ray Detector (MCORD). This article describes the conceptual design and simulation plans of the MCORD detector based on plastic scintillators with SiPM photodetectors and electronic digital system based on the MicroTCA crate.

Abstract

The Nuclotron-base Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), with commissioning of the facility expected in late 2022. The Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) has been designed to operate at NICA and its components are currently in production. The detector is expected to be ready for data taking with the first beams from NICA. This document provides an overview of the landscape of the investigation of the QCD phase diagram in the region of maximum baryonic density, where NICA and MPD will be able to provide significant and unique input. It also provides a detailed description of the MPD set-up, including its various subsystems as well as its support and computing infrastructures. Abstract

Glycinamide is considered to be one of the possible precursors of the simplest amino acid glycine. Its only rotational spectrum reported so far has been in the cm-wave region. The aim of this work is to extend its laboratory spectrum into the mm wave region to support its searches in the ISM. Glycinamide was synthesised chemically and was studied with broadband rotational spectroscopy in the 90-329 GHz region. Tunneling across a low energy barrier between two symmetry equivalent configurations of the molecule resulted in splitting of each vibrational state and many perturbations in associated rotational energy levels, requiring careful coupled state fits for each vibrational doublet. We searched for emission of glycinamide in the imaging spectral line survey ReMoCA performed with ALMA toward Sgr B2(N). We report the first analysis of the mm-wave rotational spectrum of glycinamide, resulting in fitting to experimental measurement accuracy of over 1200 transition frequencies for the ground state tunneling doublet, of many lines for tunneling doublets for two singly excited vibrational states, and determination of precise vibrational separation in each doublet. We did not detect emission from glycinamide in the hot core Sgr B2(N1S). We found that glycinamide is at least seven times less abundant than aminoacetonitrile and 1.8 times less abundant than urea in this source. A comparison with results of astrochemical kinetics models for species related to glycinamide suggests that its abundance may be at least one order of magnitude below the upper limit obtained toward Sgr B2(N1S). This means that glycinamide emission in this source likely lies well below the spectral confusion limit in the frequency range covered by the ReMoCA survey. Targetting sources with a lower level of spectral confusion, such as the Galactic Center shocked region G+0.693-0.027, may be a promising avenue. [abridged], Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

Abstract

The integration of somatosensory information is generally assumed to be a function of the central nervous system (CNS). Here we describe fully functional GABAergic communication within rodent peripheral sensory ganglia and show that it can modulate transmission of pain-related signals from the peripheral sensory nerves to the CNS. We found that sensory neurons express major proteins necessary for GABA synthesis and release and that sensory neurons released GABA in response to depolarization. In vivo focal infusion of GABA or GABA reuptake inhibitor to sensory ganglia dramatically reduced acute peripherally induced nociception and alleviated neuropathic and inflammatory pain. In addition, focal application of GABA receptor antagonists to sensory ganglia triggered or exacerbated peripherally induced nociception. We also demonstrated that chemogenetic or optogenetic depolarization of GABAergic dorsal root ganglion neurons in vivo reduced acute and chronic peripherally induced nociception. Mechanistically, GABA depolarized the majority of sensory neuron somata, yet produced a net inhibitory effect on the nociceptive transmission due to the filtering effect at nociceptive fiber T-junctions. Our findings indicate that peripheral somatosensory ganglia represent a hitherto underappreciated site of somatosensory signal integration and offer a potential target for therapeutic intervention.

Abstract

Objective: To define the relationship of synovial B cells to clinical phenotypes at different stages of disease evolution and drug exposure in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: Synovial biopsy specimens and demographic and clinical data were collected from 2 RA cohorts (n = 329), one of patients with untreated early RA (n = 165) and one of patients with established RA with an inadequate response to tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi‐IR; n = 164). Synovial tissue was subjected to hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemical staining and semiquantitative assessment for the degree of synovitis (on a scale of 0–9) and of CD20+ B cell infiltrate (on a scale of 0–4). B cell scores were validated by digital image analysis and B cell lineage–specific transcript analysis (RNA‐Seq) in the early RA (n = 91) and TNFi‐IR (n = 127) cohorts. Semiquantitative CD20 scores were used to classify patients as B cell rich (≥2) or B cell poor (<2). Results: Semiquantitative B cell scores correlated with digital image analysis quantitative measurements and B cell lineage–specific transcripts. B cell–rich synovitis was present in 35% of patients in the early RA cohort and 47.7% of patients in the TNFi‐IR cohort (P = 0.025). B cell–rich patients showed higher levels of disease activity and seropositivity for rheumatoid factor and anti–citrullinated protein antibody in early RA but not in established RA, while significantly higher histologic synovitis scores in B cell–rich patients were demonstrated in both cohorts. Conclusion: We describe a robust semiquantitative histologic B cell score that closely replicates the quantification of B cells by digital or molecular analyses. Our findings indicate an ongoing B cell–rich synovitis, which does not seem to be captured by standard clinimetric assessment, in a larger proportion of patients with established RA than early RA. Abstract

The present thesis focusses on the structure of PP's in English and Polish, and the occurrence of PP's in subject and object positions. The main theoretical references are the X-bar Theory of syntactic categories and the Government Binding framework (GB). A consideration of English data corroborates Jackendoff's and Emonds' claim that apart from an NP, prepositions can take a PP and an S′ complement or no complement at all, though details of Jackendoff's analysis are revised. Polish prepositions allow the same range of complements, including no complement, although,with a greater variety of complex prepositions and with intransitive prepositions modified by relative and appositive clauses, the P-PP and the P-S′ structures are less common in Polish than in English. Subject and object PP's have so far received little attention. Like PP objects of prepositions, they are used if the intended meaning cannot be expressed by a suitable NP. The appearance of subject PP's in raising and passive sentences poses a problem for classical Transformational Grammar, though not for a slightly revised version of GB – another category-based framework. The analysis proposed here involves a particular view of the representation of Case, and a revised Case Filter. The Case Filter rules out not merely any lexical NP with no Case but any lexical XP which requires Case but has not been assigned Case. Thus, the properties of being an NP and requiring Case are independent of each other. It emerges from the investigation (i) that prepositions in English and Polish are more alike than one might expect, given the obvious differences between the two languages; (ii) that prepositions and PP's are like verbs and VP's – as Jackendoff emphasizes – but in some respects they show greater resemblance to other categories; and (iii) that syntactic categories are less important for the distribution of phrases than is commonly assumed, and that the meaning of phrases is of central importance for their distribution.

Abstract

Under illumination in organic solvents, pristine fullerenes, C[sub 60] and C[sub 70], reveal a high triplet state yield that is close to unity and are known to effectively generate electronically excited singlet oxygen (¹Δ[sub g]). We applied the ESR technique to monitor ¹Δ[sub g] generation efficiency for both fullerenes in toluene solutions that were exposed to the white light. Total signal intensity of TEMPO, a stable nitroxide resulting from ¹Δ[sub g] attack on ESR-silent precursor, TMP (2,2,4,4-Tetramethylpiperidine), was measured to follow the singlet oxygen generation. We also performed a similar experiment using a solid sample of paraffin. The relative efficiency of ¹Δ[sub g] generation in the presence of both C[sub 60] and C[sub 70] in solutions and in a solid sample was estimated from the increase rates of TEMPO formation. Abstract

Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) is a main part of a new Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) located in Dubna, Russia. To increase MPD functionality, it was proposed to add an additional muon trigger system for off-beam calibration of the MPD sub-detectors and for rejection of cosmic ray background during experiments. The system could also be very useful for astrophysical observations of cosmic showers initiated by high energy primary particles. This article describes the main goals of MCORD detector and the early stage of MCORD design, based on plastic scintillators with silicon photomultiplier photodetectors (SiPM) for scintillation readout and electronic system based on MicroTCA standard.

Abstract

The Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) is a main detection system of the new collider located in Dubna, Russia (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility -NICA). During the work, the Slow Control electronic equipment which is located on the MPD surface and on the special platform near the MPD body, an accidental irradiation caused by the NICA’s failure or its abnormal functioning may occur. Thus, there is a risk of destroying the electronics by a radiation exposure in the platform area, and in the consequence the emergency/fast switch off of the MPD sub-detectors might become impossible. We present the preliminary dosimetry system i.e. the method of prevention of such situation by the continuous monitoring on the Slow Control electronics on the platform. System will be alarming when the radiation levels threshold will be surpassed.

48. The ∠ICI Bending Satellites in the Millimeter-Wave Rotational Spectra of CH2I2and CD2I2

Abstract

Rotational transitions in the first four excited states of the low-frequency ∠ICI bending mode, ν4, have been assigned in the mm-wave rotational spectra of CH2I2and of CD2I2. Measurements of transition frequencies, made over the frequency region 167–326 GHz and for J" up to 190, allowed determination of sextic level spectroscopic constants for all states. The changes in spectroscopic constants with vibrational excitation show very small anharmonicity, in spite of the very low frequency of this mode (121 cm−1). Vibrational excitation affects the moments of inertia in such a way that the planar moment Pb, about the plane perpendicular to both ∠ICI and ∠HCH, is practically invariant. Vibrational change in Pc, the moment along the principal axis in the HCH plane and perpendicular to the ∠HCH bisector, has been successfully reproduced with an ab initioharmonic force field so that there is no discernible vibrational change in ∠HCH on excitation of ∠ICI. Finally, the change in Paleads to estimated vibrational change of +0.12° in the value of ∠ICI itself.

Abstract

The weakly bound trimer between two water molecules and one hydrogen chloride molecule was identified from its rotational spectrum observed at conditions of supersonic expansion. The spectrum was measured with a cavity, Fourier transform microwave spectrometer and the rotational, quartic, and chlorine hyperfine coupling constants were determined for six isotopomers of the complex: (H[sub 2][sup 16]O)[sub 2]H[sup 35]Cl, (H[sub 2][sup 16]O)[sub 2]H[sup 37]Cl, (H[sup 16]OD···[sup 16]OH[sub 2])H[sup 35]Cl, (H[sup 18]OH···[sup 16]OH[sub 2])H[sup 35]Cl, (H[sup 16]OH···[sup 18]OH[sub 2])H[sup 35]Cl, and (H[sub 2][sup 18]O)[sub 2]H[sup 35]Cl. The rotational spectrum consists of transitions allowed by the μ[sub a] and the, much smaller, μ[sub b] dipole moment components. The rotational transitions are further split into components belonging to four low-lying vibration-rotation-tunneling substrates. The trimer is bound strongly enough to attenuate the dynamics of the water subunits to a level such that the differences in rotational constants between the four states are below 1 MHz. The complex is near planar as evidenced by inertial defect of -0.5 uÅ[sup 2]. Analysis of experimental and theoretical results reveals that the three monomers are bound in a triangular arrangement through O···HO and O···HCl hydrogen bonds and a primarily dispersive OH···Cl bond. All atoms, with the exception of two nonbonded hydrogens, lie near a common plane. The r[sub s], r[sub 0], and r[sup *] structural parameters have been evaluated and the two hydrogen bonds r[sup *](OH···O)=2.8151(8), and r[sup *](O···HCl)=3.0840(11) Å are appreciably shorter than analogous bonds in (H[sub 2]O)[sub 2] and H[sub 2]O···HCl, whereas r[sup *](OH···Cl)=3.4152(12) Å is close...
