This paper deals about designing process of assembly system with using of modularity and CA systems. Paper describes the benefits of using the principle of modularity in the design process of assembly system. The methodology is divided in to the five project phases. Any proposal for a perfect relocation of production lines and the subsequent operation of the production system is still subject to further change. They are caused by innovation of products on the market, qualitative and quantitative requirements of the customer etc. Resolving of material flows is actual term in present. It brings a lot of problems with layout of particular devices as elements of manufacturing process according to required and defined technology. In present time are suitable software tools for improving of transport, manipulation and storage systems. The simulation of these three systems relation is realized support CA systems to optimal whole technological processes. The modernization of technological processes is affected by the continuous efforts to reduce the production cost. One of the options how to reduce the production cost is to diminish the use of single purpose process equipment which makes the space for universal process equipment. The use of universal process equipment will help reduce the secondary production times which highly contributes to increase the labour productivity. The paper describes flexible clamping fixture design for manufacturing cell. The main goal was to propose solutions for automatic replacement of clamping jaws depending on the type of workpieces being clamped. To prepare a design layout of replaceable jaws provides the grounds for the project of intelligent fixtures whose development is the scope of the Department of Technological Devices and Systems.
