Abstract

The most important factor that affects the crop production in terms of nutritional content of foliar plants is the global climate change. Herbivore's growth, development, survival and geographical distribution all are determined by elevated CO2 and temperature. The interactions between herbivores and plants have changed due to increasing level of CO2 and temperature. The effect of high CO2 and temperature on grain legume plant which change in to plant physiology (e.g., nutritional content, foliage biomass) and how it change in herbivory metabolism rate and food consumption rate. Plant injury is determined by two factors viz. resistance and tolerance and both are influenced by greater CO2 and temperature. Legumes are an important source of food and feed in the form of proteins and also improve the soil environment. The repercussions of the abiotic factors mentioned above needs discussion among the scientific community. We may able to limit the negative repercussions of stated factors in future breeding projects by harnessing the practical favourable impacts and by including such influences of elevated CO2 and temperature on pulses productivity. The extensive research is necessary to overcome the negative effects of high CO2 and temperature on insect-plant interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

14. Screening of Pigeonpea Varieties through Nylon Bag No-choice Bioassay for Host Plant Resistance to Helicoverpa armigera.

Abstract

Background: The legume pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner), is one of the most damaging crop pests, including pigeonpea. Host plant resistance is a component of pest management and therefore, we standardize a nylon bag No-Choice Bioassay technique to screen for resistance to H. armigera under field conditions. Methods: Pigeonpea plants were infested with 24 h old 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 larvae per plant inside the nylon bag. Observations were recorded on pod damage, larval survival, larval weight, pupation, adult emergence and fecundity after 10 days. Result: Pigeonpea varieties AL-201, H03-41 and PAU-881 exhibited lower pod damage (15.89 to 19.77%) and larval weight (12.02 to 13.82 mg). The expression of resistance to H. armigera was associated with trichome density, pod wall thickness and higher amount of phenolic compounds and condensed tannins. Lower trichome density and thin pod walls and higher amounts of sugars rendered the varieties Paras, Manak and Pussa-992 more susceptible to H. armigera. Nylon bag assay can be used to screen and select pigeonpea cultivars for resistance to H. armigera. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

:Investigations on “Bio efficacy of newer insecticides and biopesticides against major sucking insect pests of chilli” were conducted at Horticulture farm, S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner during Zaid, 2014 and 2015. Thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood and whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) were recorded as a major sucking insect pest of chilli during both the years of study. The present findings indicated that insecticides viz., the insecticides viz., acetamiprid 20 SP @ 0.004%, thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 0.025%, imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.005%, fipronil 5 SC @ 0.01% and standard check (dimethoate 30 EC @ 0.03% / oxydemeton methyl 25 EC @ 0.025%) were found effective against both the pests, however, acetamiprid 20 SP @ 0.004% was most effective against thrips and imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.005% against whitefly. The entomopathogenic fungus viz., Beauveria bassiana 1.15 WP @ 1 g/l and Metarhizium anisopliae 1.15 WP @ 1 g/l were found least effective against both the pests. The highest fruit yield of 105.11 q/ha was recorded in the plots treated with imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.005% followed by thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 0.025% (103.18 q/ha), acetamiprid 20 SP @ 0.004% (99.99 q/ha), standard check (99.69 q/ha) and fipronil 5 SC @ 0.01% (97.65 q/ha). Abstract

Present field experiment was carried out to estimate yield losses in brinjal due to brinjal shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee. The results revealed that the mean fruit yield obtained from the plots treated with alternate sprays of acephate 75 SP (0.03%) and dimethoate 30 EC (0.03%) was 203.47 and 202.13 q ha-1, whereas it was only 105.65 and 107.40 q ha-1 in untreated plots during 2019 and 2020, respectively. The yield obtained from treated and untreated plots differed significantly from each other and the increased yield was 97.78 and 94.73 q ha-1 during 2019 and 2020, respectively. The increase in yield over untreated control was 92.59 and 88.21 per cent while, the avoidable loss was 48.08 46.87 per cent during 2019 and 2020, respectively. Abstract

The experiments were conducted at CCS HAU, Hisar (Haryana) to study the morpho physico-chemical components of resistance to pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera in pigeonpea with different sowing dates. In different four sowing dates, the minimum pod infestation (1.70%) was recorded in (D4) 3rd week of July sown crop, whereas, it was observed maximum (4.54%) in (D2) 1st week of July sown crop. In different pigeonpea varieties, the minimum mean pod infestation (2.45%) was recorded in AL-201, whereas, the maximum mean pod infestation (3.72%) was recorded in Pusa-992. The glandular (type A) and non-glandular (type B) trichomes on pods of top and middle canopy of the plant and pod wall thickness were associated with resistance to H. armigera, whereas, the non-glandular lengthy (type C) trichomes and pod length were associated with susceptibility to this insect. The expression of resistance to H. armigera was also associated with the high amount of fat, phenol and tannin content. Abstract

Grain proteins from 20 Indian wheat genotypes were evaluated for diversity assessment based seed storage protein profiling on sodium dodecylsulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Genetic diversity was evaluated using Nei’s index, Shannon index and Unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) cluster analysis by constructing dendrogram of fractions of proteins, which were used for the calculation of similarity coefficients between these varieties. Diversity analysis attributes exhibited the importance of seed storage as a marker system. The similarity ranged from 32.14% to as high as 100% between genotypes. Adoption of this technology would be useful to plant protection regulatory systems, especially for plant variety identification and registration of new plant varieties, breeding programs and protection purposes. On Farm Testing of Pheromone trap @ 5/ha + Coriander row (7/8:1) + HaNPV @ 250 LE/ha against pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera L.) management was assessed on farmers field in Nagaur district during 2020-21. Trial was conducted on 10 farmer’s field to know the impact of said technology on chickpea pod borer management. In the demonstrated technologies the chickpea seed production 19.83 q/ha. The percent seed yield increase over the farmer’s practices was 34.11%. The net return in demonstration technology was ` 67036/ha and the same was ` 44525/ha. Abstract

In Nagaur district cumin blight disease management trial was conducted through on-farm trial during the year 2020-21. Cumin seed yield of 9.74 q/ha was obtained under demonstration technology as compared to farmer’s practice (7.81 q/ha). The percent seed yield under demonstrations was 25% over the farmer’s practices. Under demonstrated practices, farmers got maximum net return of Rs. 89055/ha. Abstract

Combining ability analysis for grain yield and its contributing traits in maize was performed with 15 inbred line and 3 tester parents and the resulting 45 hybrids using line x tester cross analysis in three environments during kharif and rabi 2014. The results of combining ability analysis over the environments revealed significant mean squares due to general and specific combining ability indicating that both additive and non-additive gene actions were important in the inheritance of characters studied. The parents L2 (EIQ -132), L4(EIQ-134), L5(EIQ-135), L6(EIQ-136), L8(EIQ-138), and L14(EIQ-144) and L15 (EIQ- 145) were good general combiners for grain yield and majority of traits over the environments. Hence, these parents can be used in crossing and further exploited for improvement of traits in the population. Six inbred lines viz., L1(EIQ-131), L2(EIQ - 132), L3(EIQ-133), L6(EIQ-136), L8(EIQ-138) and L14(EIQ-144) were identified good general combiner for maturity related traits. Whereas the crosses L7 x T2 (EIQ-137 x EIQ-102), L13 x T3 (EIQ-143 x EIQ-103), L10 x T1 (EIQ-140 x EIQ-101), L1 x T1(EIQ-131 x EIQ-101) and L11 x T3 (EIQ-141 x EIQ-103) were identified as potential ones for yield and yield components based on high sca effects along with high per se performance. Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during kharif season of 2013 and 2014 to determine the effect of weather parameters on the incidence of pod borer complex on early maturing pigeonpea varieties. The study revealed that the infestation of Helicoverpa armigera and Maruca vitrata started with the onset of bud initiation and reached its peak at flowering stage. The maximum H. armigera larval population (1.83 larvae plant-1) was recorded in 1st week of July sown crop, whereas, the maximum incidence of M. vitrata (21.17 webs plant-1) was recorded in 2nd week of July sown crop. The larval population of H. armigera was significantly and positively correlated with the maximum temperature, followed by minimum temperature.Incidence of M. vitrata was negatively correlated with evening relative humidity and wind speed which was significant at p ≤ 0.05 level of significance. A set of 28 hybrids were developed involving eight diverse parents (HD 2687, DBW 17, PBW 373 ,Raj 3765, Raj 3077, Raj 4037, Raj 4083and RKA 501) by using diallel mating system without reciprocals. The 28 F1's and 8 parents were grown in Randomized Block Design with two replications during rabi 2008-09. Analysis of variance revealed that variance due to genotypes, parents, parents vs. crosses and crosses were highly significant and significant for all the traits studied. Significant mean squares due to general combining ability and specific combining ability in pooled analysis revealed significance of both additive and dominance gene effects in inheritance of all the heat tolerance traits in wheat. The low predictability ratio revealed that all the characters studied were predominantly controlled by non- additive genes action. The present study has identified desirable parents RKA 501, PBW 373, Raj 3077, Raj 3765 and HD 2687 for most of the heat tolerant parameters. The importance of additive but mainly non-additive gene action is highlighted. Improvement in heat injury and other heat tolerant parameters should be possible by resorting to biparental mating followed by recurrent selection or by diallel selective mating. The study was conducted on farmers field in Nagaur district during 2018 to 2019 to know the impact of improved technologies on chickpea production through Cluster Front Line Demonstration. The demonstrated technologies increase the chickpea seed production 14.24 and 19.31 q/ha during 2018 and 2019 with the per cent increase in of 16.2 and 26.7 respectively. The net return in demonstration technology was 38474 during 2018 and the same 58829 was in 2019.
