This paper presents the efficacy of a contrast agent based on H2N-Fe3O4 nanoparticles for the detection of prostate cancer in an animal model using a preclinical 9.4 T MRI system. The relaxivities r1 and r2 of the nanoparticles were 6.31 mM−1s−1 and 8.33 mM−1s−1, respectively. Nanoparticles injected in a concentration of 2 mg Fe/mL decreased the tumor-relative T1 relaxation across all animals from 100 to 76 ± 26, 85 ± 27, 89 ± 20, and 97 ± 16 12 min 1 h, 2 h, and 24 h post injection, respectively. The corresponding T1 decrease in muscle tissues was 90 ± 20, 94 ± 23, 99 ± 12, and 99 ± 14. The relative T2 changes in the tumor were 82 ± 17, 89 ± 19, 97 ± 14, and 99 ± 8 12 min, 1 h, 2 h, and 24 h post injection, respectively, while, for muscle tissues, these values were 95 ± 11, 95 ± 8, 97 ± 6, and 95 ± 10 at the corresponding time points. The differences in the relative T1 and T2 were only significant 12 min after injection (p < 0.05), although a decrease was visible at each time point, but it was statistically insignificant (p > 0.05). Introduction: Although melasma leads to emotional distress and quality-of-life reduction, indigenous cultures practice female facial tattooing. Facial cues influence personality trait inferences and attractiveness ratings. Skin lesions have been shown to alter gaze patterns, emotion perception, and social evaluations. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate melasma's impact on visual attention, perceived attractiveness, and social evaluations, considering distinct anatomical areas. Additionally, we sought to compare perceptions of traditional facial tattoos due to their purposeful placement. Material and methods: Gaze fixation patterns were examined via eye-tracking, and image-based personality questionnaires were completed for psychological trait assessment. Visual stimuli showcased anatomic melasma variants and tattoo patterns. Results: Traditional tattoos often follow midline patterns, sparing the upper lip. Both melasma and tattoos significantly affected visual attention (p < 0.001), with chin and upper lip melasma garnering increased attention. Upper lip melasma decreased gaze to the ocular area (p = 0.002). while increasing perioral fixations (p < 0.001) compared to healthy faces. Upper lip tattoos conveyed increased perceived aggressiveness (p = 0.004). Ratings for attractiveness and personality traits were lower for centrofacial melasma than other variants, with no significant difference between centrofacial and isolated upper lip melasma. Conclusions: The global avoidance of upper lip pigmentation underscores its perceptual burden. Upper lip pigmentation directs gaze towards anger-signalling regions, increasing perceived aggression and reducing attractiveness. Centrofacial melasma's impact parallels an isolated upper lip pattern, underscoring the disproportionate role of upper lip pigmentation. These findings warrant considering upper lip melasma's significant influence when evaluating quality of life and establishing treatment goals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we investigate the number of failed components in a coherent system with possibly dependent and not necessarily identically distributed component lifetimes. Based on two different partial information about the status of component failures, obtained either with a single inspection or under double monitoring of the system, we compute the probability of the given number of failures in a working coherent system. In the computations, we use the concept of minimal path sets of the system. These results enable us to establish explicit expressions for survival functions of two types of residual lifetimes of a used system. For illustration, we provide numerical examples of coherent systems composed of discretely or continuously distributed component lifetimes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The gamification method has gained in popularity in recent years. Theoretical works in this field emphasize its attractiveness, which also affects the effectiveness of the implementation of tasks considered stereotypically as tedious and requiring concentration. By introducing game-specific elements into the learning process, participants usually engage in activities more, feel more motivated and remember the content discussed better. In the article, the authors attempt to answer the question of how the method of gamification is understood and assessed by high school students. To this end, they conducted surveys in two research groups: in the first, which participated in lessons based on gamification, and the second, in which such activities were not carried out.
