Design of a new generation of the large power steam turbines leads to very long last rotor blades with tip sections operating often in supersonic region. The flow field in such tip sections is not fully explored and it is believed to be fairly complex and very sensitive even on minute changes of flow parameters. This stimulated the study of the performance of profiles suitable for rotor tip sections. Numerical simulations have been carried out using TU Prague’s code based on the solution of the RANS equations and SST turbulence model by implicit finite volume method with AUSMPW+ scheme in high resolution formulation. Experimental data have been gathered in the intermittent high-speed wind tunnel of IT CAS CR for 2D cascade measurements equipped by an adjustable supersonic inlet nozzle, perforated inserts at side walls and adjustable perforated tailboard.

This paper describes a model of compressible flow including homogenous nucleation and consequent growth and evaporation of droplets. Considered fluid is water vapor with relatively small mass fraction of dispersed water droplets. Main issues of numerical simulation based on this model are discussed. Results of numerical simulation are compared with experimental data.

Electron-spot-induced multiple branching and trajectory deviation of streamer microdischarges in air was simulated using a 3-D unstructured adaptive mesh finite-volume approach along with the air plasma streamer model proposed by Morrow et al. Images illustrating the effect of electron spots on the propagation trajectory, i.e., deviation, simple branching, multiple branching, are presented and commented.

Recent trends in the electric energy market such as biomass, waste incineration or combined cycle power plants require innovative solutions in steam turbine design. Variable operating conditions cause significant changes in flow field surrounding the steam turbine last stage blades. Therefore, the enlargement of operating range for last stage blades presents new challenges in design of turbine cascades. Several turbine cascades were designed and analyzed by commercial and in-house software of CTU Prague. Selected profiles were experimentally validated in the high-speed wind tunnel for 2D cascade measurements of the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences which is equipped by an adjustable supersonic inlet nozzle, perforated inserts at side walls and adjustable perforated tailboard. Comparisons are presented of numerical results with optical and pneumatic measurements for a wide range of inlet and outlet Mach numbers for optimized hub and tip profile cascades.

The aim of this thesis is a numerical simulation of a streamer propagation (electric discharge in a high voltage electric field). The minimal model is used for the streamer description. The model consists of a system of convection-diffusion-reaction equations for electric particles coupled with Poisson’s equation for an electric potential. We simulate a general streamer motion in 3D which is presented by streamer branching. It is caused by local disturbances in the electric field. We have developed a method based on a dynamically adaptation of grids for the simulation. The properties of the method are tested on simpler problems in 2D (less time consuming). This approach is sufficient for the development of the method even if it is different type of problem (planar discharge) and it allows a simple transition to 3D.; L'objectif de cette thèse est la simulation numérique de la propagation d'une décharge électrique dans un champ électrique à haute tension. Un modèle minimal est utilisé pour la description de la physique. Le modèle consiste en un modèle d'équations de convection-diffusion-réaction de particules électrique couplé à l'équation de Poisson pour le potentiel électrique. Nous simulons la propagation d'une décharge en 3D, qui présente des ramifications causées par des perturbations locales dans le champ électrique. Nous avons mis en oeuvre une méthode basée sur l'adaptation dynamique de maillages pour la simulation numérique. Les propriétés de la méthode sont testées d'abord sur un simple problème analogue en 2D. Cette approche a été suffisante pour le développement de la méthode, même si en 2D le problème est d'un type différent (décharge plane), et cela a permis une transition simple au vrai problème 3D.; Tato dizertační práce se zabývá numerickou simulací propagace streameru (elektrický výbojve vysokonapět'ovém elektrickém poli). Pro popis streameru je použit minimální model, který se skládá ze soustavy transportních rovnic pro elektricky nabité částice spárovaných s Poissonovou rovnicí pro elektrický potenciál. V práci simulujeme obecný pohyb streameru ve 3D. Tento obecný pohyb je prezentován rozvětvením streameru, kterého se dosáhne pomocí lokálních poruch v elektrickem poli. Pro numerickou simulaci streameru jsme vyvinuli meto du založenou na dynamické adaptaci síte, jejíž vlastnosti byly otestováný na jednodušších problé-mech ve 2D (menší časová náročnost). I když jde o jiný typ problému (rovinný výboj), pro vývoj metody je dostatečný a umožňuje snadný přechod do 3D.

International audience; Recently, a new relaxation scheme for hybrid modelling of two-phase flows has been proposed. This one allows to obtain stable unsteady approximations for a system of partial differential equations containing non-smooth data. This paper is concerned with a two-dimensional extension of the present method, in which two alternative relaxation schemes are compared. A partial analysis of continuous stability is given.
