Objectives: Compare different behavioural, environmental and socioeconomic factors for caries with transversal data to decompose the direct and indirect effects of body mass index (BMI) in relation to coronal and root caries., Methods: This cross-sectional study used a representative sample of 1002 individuals aged ≥ 35 years living in Porto Alegre. Questionnaires recorded age, sex, educational level, tooth brushing frequency and access to dental services. Oral examination assessed gingival bleeding and recession, coronal and root caries. Height and weight were collected to calculate the BMI. The structural equation modelling approach was used, and standardised coefficients (SC) to direct, indirect and total effects were calculated., Results: The prevalence of excessive body weight was 71.17%, of which 40.09% were overweight and 31.07% were obese. The overall prevalence of coronal and root caries was 99.83 and 36.95, respectively. No direct link between BMI and coronal or root caries was observed. For coronal caries, positive SC was found for age (0.56; p < 0.01) and sex (female) (0.14; p < 0.01). For root caries, positive SC was detected for age (0.34; p < 0.01), smoking exposure (0.17; p < 0.01) and gingivitis (0.08; p < 0.01)., Conclusions: Overweight and obese adults should not be regarded at higher risk for dental caries., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Objectives: To compare the performance of Cention-N® with direct restorative materials used at the daily practice (e.g., resin-based composites/RBC, glass ionomer cements/GIC, bioactive resins, silver amalgam) via a systematic review study., Methods: The review followed the PRISMA-NMA recommendations, and the protocol of the review was published at osf.io/ybde8. The search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Lilacs, and SciELO databases, as well as in the grey literature (Open Grey, Proquest, and Periódicos CAPES). Studies with an in vitro experimental design evaluating the characteristics and properties of Cention-N in comparison to other restorative materials were included. The risk of bias of included studies was assessed using the RoBDEMAT tool, and meta-analyses were conducted using Review Manager 5.4 and MetaInsight V3 tools., Results: A total of 85 studies were included in the review, from which 79 were meta-analyzed. Several characteristics of direct restorative materials were analyzed, including physical (color change, degree of conversion, hardness, microleakage, polymerization rate, roughness, water solubility, water sorption), mechanical (bond strength to dentin, compressive strength, diametral tensile strength, flexural modulus, flexural strength, load-to-fracture, wear), and biological (alkalinizing effect, antibacterial activity, calcium and fluoride release) properties., Significance: Cention-N presented similar physico-mechanical properties compared to RBCs, but a stronger behavior than GICs. Despite the Alkasite nature of Cention-N, GICs may still demonstrate the greatest fluoride releasing ability from all direct restorative materials. More than 3550 species of mosquitoes are known worldwide, and only a fraction is involved in the transmission of arboviruses. Mosquitoes in sylvatic and semi-sylvatic habitats may rapidly adapt to urban parks and metropolitan environments, increasing human contact. Many of these mosquitoes have been found naturally infected with arboviruses from the Alphaviridae , Flaviviridae , and Bunyaviridae families, with many being the cause of medically important diseases. However, there is a gap in knowledge about the vector status of newly invasive species and their potential threat to human and domestic animal populations. Due to their rapid distribution, adaptation to urban environments, and anthropophilic habits, some neglected mosquito species may deserve more attention regarding their role as secondary vectors. Taking these factors into account, we focus here on Aedes ( Ochlerotatus ) scapularis (Rondani), Aedes japonicus japonicus (Theobald), and Aedes ( Fredwardsius ) vittatus (Bigot) as species that have the potential to become important disease vectors. We further discuss the importance of these neglected mosquitoes and how factors such as urbanization, climate change, and globalization profoundly alter the dynamics of disease transmission and may increase the participation of neglected species in propagating diseases.

Objective: This randomized controlled clinical trial aimed to evaluate the clinical performance of composite resin restorations placed after selective caries removal to soft dentin (SCRSD) or stepwise excavation (SW) over an 18-month period., Methods: Inclusion criteria were patients with permanent molars and/or premolars presenting deep caries lesions (≥50 % of the dentin thickness). Teeth were submitted to SCRSD (n = 76) or SW (n = 76). Evaluations were performed based on FDI (World Dental Federation) criterion. Survival analysis was performed to estimate the survival of restorations and its association with clinical variables and socio-demographic characteristics (adjusted Weibull regression model). The study was registered on Registro Brasileiro de Ensaios Clínicos (ReBEC 65ntbc)., Results: The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 18 months (mean ± SD 16.3 ± 3.4 months). Patients' ages ranged from 9 to 55 years (mean ± SD 29 ± 10.5 years). A total of 135 teeth (SCRSD = 72; SW = 63) from 101 patients were evaluated. There were 4 failures in the SCRSD group (2 loss of restoration in need of replacement and 2 marginal fractures in need of repair) and 2 in the SW group (fracture in need of repair). The association between explanatory variables and restoration failure showed similar success rates for SW (99.4 %) and SCRSD (97.9 %) (p = 0.16). Background: To sustain performance during a task that requires attention may be a challenge for children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which strongly influences motivation for tasks and has been connected to the level of arousal., Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of musical stimulus on attentional performance in children with ADHD and typically developing children., Methods: A total of 76 boys (34 with ADHD and 42 typically developing) performed the Attention Network Test (ANT) for children under 2 experimental conditions (with and without music). Four attentional measures were extracted from the ANT. We tested the effect of the experimental condition and its interaction with the group using repeated measures ANOVA., Results: We found no significant main effects or interactions for the reaction times of the alerting, orienting, and conflict attentional networks of the ANT (all P>.05). Regarding ANT errors, we found a significant main effect for music, with a moderate effect size (F 1,72= 9.83; P=.03; ηp 2 =0.06) but the condition×group interaction was not significant (F 1,72 =1.79; P=.18). Participants made fewer errors when listening to music compared to the control condition., Conclusions: Music seems not to interfere in the attentional network in children and adolescents. Perhaps background music affects motivation. Background: About 30% of patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder fail with the mainstream pharmacological treatment. Patients who do not achieve clinical remission of symptoms, even with two different antidepressants, are classified with treatment-resistant depression (TDR). This condition imposes an additional burden with increased Disability Adjusted Life Years. Therefore, complementary treatments, such as neuromodulation, are necessary. The transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) has emerged in the past few years as a reliable method for non-invasive neuromodulation in humans and may help treat TRD. This study aims to propose a research protocol for a non-inferiority randomized clinical trial of TDR with tFUS., Methods: Patients with documented TRD will be screened upon entering the TRD outpatient clinic at UFMG (Brazil). One hundred patients without a clinical history of other psychiatric illness, anatomical abnormalities on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or treatment with electroconvulsive therapy will be invited to participate. Patients will be randomized (1:1) into two groups: 1) treatment with a previously established protocol of transcranial magnetic stimulation; and 2) treatment with a similar protocol using the stimulation. Besides regular consultations in the outpatient clinic, both groups will attend 7 protocolled spaced days of brain stimulation targeted at the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Individuals who experience mild COVID-19 can suffer from long-lasting cognitive symptoms. Notably, 26% of these individuals experience difficulties with visuospatial abilities six months after infection. However, among those who initially exhibited visuoconstructive impairments, 66% showed improvement or complete reversal over time. Additionally, changes in cytokine levels, particularly CCL11, HGF, and CXCL10, were observed. During the COVID-19 pandemic, internalizing and externalizing symptoms have impacted the quality of life of children and adolescents. This cross-sectional study evaluated children's quality of life using parental reports, observing associations with mental health problems and sociodemographic variables. Some behavioral measures were linked to lower quality of life, particularly depression symptoms, relationship problems, and inattention. Multiple regression models indicated that reduced children's quality of life ( R 2 = 36%) was associated with higher levels of internalizing ( r  = -0.46) and externalizing ( r  = -0.23) behavioral problems and younger parents ( r  = -0.08). Children with previous mental disorder diagnoses had lower quality of life than those without ( p  < 0.001). Background: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects 5% of children and 2.5% of adults worldwide. Comorbidities are frequent, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) reaches 50%. Family environment is crucial for the severity of behaviors and for prognosis. In middle-income countries, access to treatment is challenging, with more untreated children than those under treatment. Face-to-face behavioral parent training (PT) is a well-established intervention to improve child behavior and parenting., Method: A clinical trial was designed to compare PT-online and face-to-face effects to a waiting list group. Outcomes were the ADHD and ODD symptoms, parental stress and styles, and quality of life. Families were allocated into three groups: standard treatment (ST), ST + PT online, and ST + Face-to-Face PT. We used repeated measures ANOVA for pre × post treatment analysis corrected for multiple comparisons., Results and Discussion: Parent training was effective in reducing symptoms of ADHD ( p  = 0.030) and ODD ( p  = 0.026) irrespective of modality ( p  = 1.000). The combination of ST and PT was also associated with better quality of life in the physical domain for patients ( p  = 0.009) and their parents ( p  = 0.050). In addition to preliminary data, online intervention seems effective for parenting and improving social acceptance of children. Introduction: Pandemics have the potential to be considered traumatic event, increasing the risk of developing post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in HealthCare Workers (HCW). However, few longitudinal studies have evaluated the impact of prolonged exposure to the risk imposed by COVID-19. Our aim was to identify subgroups of HCW with profiles of PTSS, how this profile changed during the pandemic and which variables were related to these changes., Methods: We evaluated the levels of PTSS and psychological distress in a Brazilian HealthCare Workers' sample (n = 1398) in three waves of assessment: from May to June 2020 (Wave 1), December 2020 to February 2021 (Wave 2) and May to August 2021 (Wave 3), using Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) to identify subgroups with different profiles of symptms, and then, Latent Transition Analysis (LTA) was applied to examine changes in symptom profiles over time, including gender, psychiatric diagnosis history, and pandemic-related fears as covariates., Results: two profiles were identified: high-PTSS profile (Wave 1-23%; Wave 2-64% and Wave 3-73%) and a low-PTSS (Wave 1-77%; Wave 2-36% and Wave 3-27%). Being female, fear of contamination, and fearing financial problems were strong predictors of changes in the profile. In addition, the participants had a high probability of being in the high-PTSS in the long run., Conclusion: These results suggests that targeted interventions can mitigate the impact of pandemic. Objective: To translate and validate the version for children and adolescents of the UPPS-P scale into Brazilian Portuguese., Method: After a five-step translation process, the final draft was submitted to a panel of 12 different specialties experts. Subsequently, the application of the scale was applied concomitantly with the "Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Scale - Version IV" (SNAP-IV) and the "Child and Adolescent Behavior Inventory" (CABI) scale to analyze the correlation between them. Content Validity Index (CVI) and reliability were estimated by calculating internal consistency and analyzing its test-retest stability., Results: The items whose CVI was lower than 80% underwent a detailed analysis to verify the reason for the bad evaluation. Five items (3, 7, 11, 22 and 35) scored below 80% and were reassessed. There was high internal consistency in all parameters: Lack of premeditation (McDonald's omega = 0.806; Cronbach's alpha = 0.801), Negative Urgency (McDonald's omega = 0.838; Cronbach's alpha = 0.836), Sensation seeking (McDonald's omega = 0.826; Cronbach's alpha = 0.810), Lack of Perseverance (McDonald's omega = 0.800; Cronbach's alpha = 0.799) and Positive Urgency (McDonald's omega = 0.936; Cronbach's alpha = 0.934). A multicenter, randomized controlled clinical trial evaluated the effectiveness of two treatments for deep caries lesions in permanent molars - selective caries removal (SCR) to soft dentin with restoration in a single visit, and stepwise excavation (SW) - regarding pulp vitality for a 5-year follow-up period. The present study aimed to determine the cost-effectiveness of these treatments. Treatments were conducted in two Brazilian cities (Brasília and Porto Alegre). At baseline, 299 permanent molars (233 patients) were treated and 229 teeth (174 patients) were evaluated after 5 years. The discounted cash flow method was adopted. The total cost of each treatment was calculated, and the failure cost (endodontic treatment + restoration) was added to the final cost, according to the 5-year failure rates of each therapy (20% for SCR and 44% for SW). A public health service unit composed of three dentists in 4-hour work shifts was used to calculate the monetary value of the treatments, assuming a total of 528 treatments/month. Considering the 229 teeth evaluated after 5 years (115 SCR and 114 SW), SCR provided savings of 43% (amalgam) and 41% (resin composite) per treatment, compared to SW. The SCR technique provides benefits for public finances (direct economy) and for public health services (increase in the number of treatments performed). Considering that maximizing profit and reducing costs are powerful motivating factors for adopting a certain treatment, this study provides data to better support the decision-making process, regarding the management of deep caries lesions in permanent molars.

Introduction: Decision-making is not purely rational but highlighted by the influence of intuitive and emotional processes. Recently, researchers have focused more attention on understanding which environmental and personal features influence decision-making processes, and how., Objective and Methods: On this study, we investigate whether Trait Anxiety moderates the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) symptoms reported during COVID-19 pandemic on decision-making styles., Results: The study included 1,358 Brazilian participants (80% women) aged between 20 and 74 (M = 41.11; SD = 11.23) who responded to an online survey between May and August of the year 2021 of COVID-19 pandemic to The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, The Decisions Styles Scale, The Impact of Event Scale - Revised and questions related to COVID-19. Through moderation analysis, we observed that experiencing PTS is associated with a higher tendency to biased/heuristic decision-making processes., Discussion: Trait Anxiety seems to influence how people respond to PTS symptoms on decision-making related processes. Subjects with higher Trait Anxiety reported lower tendency to appeal to rationality, especially under higher reported levels of PTS. Meanwhile, lower Trait Anxiety subjects exhibited more reason-based decision-making under higher rates of PTS. Objective: To investigate whether the classification of a patient's caries activity based on lesion activity assessment can predict the increment and progression of coronal and root caries lesions among adults., Methods: This population-based prospective cohort study followed 413 individuals (mean age 54.1) from southern Brazil for 4 years. Data collection included a questionnaire and clinical examination to record coronal/root caries and gingival recession. The main outcomes were caries increment measured as decayed, missing and filled tooth surfaces (DMFS) and caries progression (surface-level analysis). The main predictor variable was patients' caries activity at baseline ("caries-inactive" or "caries-active"). Negative binomial regression models (unadjusted and adjusted) were used., Results: Caries-active individuals were more likely to present DMFS increment than caries-inactive ones when migrations among DMFS components were considered (IRR [incidence risk ratio] = 1.26, 95%CI [confidence interval] = 1.01-1.58). On the other hand, no such association was found when these migrations were disregarded. The risk for coronal caries progression on filled surfaces was 90% higher among caries-active patients (IRR=1.9; 95%CI=1.4-2.6). In addition, patient's caries activity was able to predict higher risk for root caries progression in newly exposed root surfaces (IRR=1.9; 95%CI=1.0-3.6)., Conclusion: The classification of a patient's caries activity based on lesion activity was able to foresee lesion progression on the coronal and root surfaces more susceptible to caries among adults. People recovered from COVID-19 may still present complications including respiratory and neurological sequelae. In other viral infections, cognitive impairment occurs due to brain damage or dysfunction caused by vascular lesions and inflammatory processes. Persistent cognitive impairment compromises daily activities and psychosocial adaptation. Some level of neurological and psychiatric consequences were expected and described in severe cases of COVID-19. However, it is debatable whether neuropsychiatric complications are related to COVID-19 or to unfoldings from a severe infection. Nevertheless, the majority of cases recorded worldwide were mild to moderate self-limited illness in non-hospitalized people. Thus, it is important to understand what are the implications of mild COVID-19, which is the largest and understudied pool of COVID-19 cases. We aimed to investigate adults at least four months after recovering from mild COVID-19, which were assessed by neuropsychological, ocular and neurological tests, immune markers assay, and by structural MRI and 18 FDG-PET neuroimaging to shed light on putative brain changes and clinical correlations. In approximately one-quarter of mild-COVID-19 individuals, we detected a specific visuoconstructive deficit, which was associated with changes in molecular and structural brain imaging, and correlated with upregulation of peripheral immune markers. Our findings provide evidence of neuroinflammatory burden causing cognitive deficit, in an already large and growing fraction of the world population. While living with a multitude of mild COVID-19 cases, action is required for a more comprehensive assessment and follow-up of the cognitive impairment, allowing to better understand symptom persistence and the necessity of rehabilitation of the affected individuals., (© 2022. Aim: To investigate the association between 11 oral conditions and oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL)., Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study used a multistage sampling strategy to draw a representative sample of adults aged ≥35 years living in Porto Alegre, Brazil. OHRQoL was assessed using OHIP-14. Oral examinations were conducted to assess gingivitis, dental calculus, tooth loss, gingival recession (GR), dentine hypersensitivity (DHS), dental caries (DFT), dental erosion, and non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL). Questionnaires recorded the following self-reported oral variables: xerostomia, halitosis, and perceived need for dental treatment. Structural Equation Models were used to assess the associations adjusting to demographic and behavioral variables., Results: 1022 individuals were analyzed. The overall OHIP mean equaled 9.2 ± 9.7 points. Xerostomia [coefficient (coef)=0.10], halitosis (coef=0.28), DFT (coef=0.16), and DHS (coef=0.19) were significantly and directly associated with negative impacts of OHIP-14. GR was significantly and indirectly associated with poor OHRQoL due to higher DHS. Perceived need for dental treatment was significantly and directly associated with higher OHIP-14 (coef=0,40)., Conclusions: Poor OHRQoL was observed in a sample of Brazilian adults and old people. Five important oral conditions were associated to poor OHRQoL. Tooth loss, gingivitis, calculus, dental erosion and NCCL did not associate with OHRQoL., Clinical Significance: Poorer oral health related quality of life is observed in a Brazilian urban area compared to other parts of the world. Children and adolescents were largely affected by the psychosocial impact of the 2019-2022 pandemic. During this time, there was an increase in internalizing symptoms, screen and internet use, and internet addiction. However, the interaction of these variables are not fully understood in a stressful time. Here, we have a repeated cross-sectional study aiming to model internalizing symptoms' prediction depending on screen time and game addiction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Parent-reported online data were collected at three timepoints, 6 months apart from each other, from a total of 1211 participants. We found an increase in screen time, game addiction, and internalizing symptoms. Regardless of the time spent in front of screens, higher levels of game addiction were associated with higher levels of internalizing symptoms in children and adolescents. Even if participants demonstrated low screen time, if they were virtually dependent they tended to exhibit higher levels of internalizing symptoms. The same result was found in all three samples. There is a need to investigate the nature of the relationship between internet addiction and internalizing symptoms and the long lasting effects of long hours on the screen.

Although the discussion about the amount of carious dentin to be removed during cavity preparation is quite old, concepts for caries removal have evolved and changed considerably over the last decades. The antiquate understanding that it was necessary to eliminate the microbial contamination of a cavity before placing the restoration was replaced by the current knowledge that maintaining contaminated dentin beneath restorations is inevitable and is not associated with treatment failure. This chapter brings together the body of evidence behind carious dentin removal to indicate a conservative treatment, aiming to preserve both tooth vitality and structure. Studies that evaluated the effects of sealing contaminated dentin are described, which are focused on different outcomes, such as microbiological counts, clinical characteristics, laboratory analysis, and radiographic findings. Long-term studies and randomized clinical trials also support the current recommendations. After addressing the available literature on this topic, this chapter concludes that (1) the amount of carious dentin to be removed should be defined by lesion depth; (2) sealing and/or selective caries removal to firm dentin is recommended for the management of shallow and moderate lesions; (3) the selective caries removal to soft dentin in a single session is indicated for deep caries lesions aiming to preserve tooth vitality; and (4) the use of a cavity liner after selective caries removal seems to be an unnecessary clinical step., (© 2023 S. Objective: To compare the distress level among Brazilian healthcare professionals during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and estimate risks by sex, age, and occupation., Methods: In a longitudinal cohort design, a nationally distributed online survey was used to collect data from 10,490 active healthcare professionals who worked during the pandemic. Participants were mostly female, aged 18 to 82 years; 13 different health professions and all states of Brazil were represented., Results: The most frequent professions were psychology, dentistry, and nursing. The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) score suggested an increased distress perception among health professionals. Females showed poorer mental health than males, but the absolute rise in Global Severity Index (GSI) score was larger in males than in females. Younger adults reported more symptoms of psychological distress than older adults. The most impacted age group was between 30-39 years. Nurse technicians presented the highest risk of distress., Conclusion: Health professionals are essential to overcoming the pandemic; thus, their mental health status should be monitored, and features associated with increased distress should be identified. Our findings suggest distress risk should be stratified by occupation, age, and sex. Health professionals showed an increased distress perception. Introduction: The existence of a general factor related to psychiatric symptoms is supported by studies using a variety of methods in both clinical and non-clinical samples., Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the replicability of the internal structure of the Brief Symptom Inventory in a large Brazilian sample., Methods: Participants were 6,427 Brazilian subjects (81% female). Mean age was 42.1 years (standard deviation [SD] = 13.6, Min = 13, Max = 80). All participants completed the online version of the Brief Symptom Inventory. This scale presents a general score (GSI) and nine specific clusters of symptoms (depression, anxiety, phobic anxiety, interpersonal sensibility, psychoticism, paranoid ideation, obsessive-compulsive behavior, hostility, and somatization symptoms)., Results: Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to assess the factor structure of the BSI. The results showed that the best-fitting model was a bifactor solution and the general factor was the main dimension explaining most of the reliable variability in the data., Conclusion: The findings suggest that the BSI's internal structure was replicated in a non-clinical sample and that the general factor is the most reliable score. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and inflexible behaviors/interests. To quantify ASD traits in adults with preserved intelligence, the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) was developed, which is a self-report instrument and one of the most used and recommended tools., Objectives: We aimed to present a descriptive analysis of the AQ in a sample of Brazilian adults with neurotypical development (n=385) and investigate how the scale performs in a clinical subsample (n=33)., Methods: We recruited 1,024 participants. They answered the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20), AQ, and about their psychiatric record. Then, we selected 385 participants without any psychiatric diagnosis to describe the distribution of the ASD traits. To investigate the AQ performance, we evaluated 33 adults with ASD and 19 adults with neurotypical development from the total sample (n=1,024)., Results: ASD traits were normally distributed in the population, with high internal consistency. Of a total of 91 men, volunteers with 32 points (clinical cutoff point) or more scored higher than 93% of the control sample. Of a total of 294 women, those who got a clinical score on the scale scored higher than 97%. In the clinical subsample (n=33), the positive predictive value (PPV) of the AQ was 0.84, and the negative predictive value (NPV) was 0.7., Conclusions: The study population has a different profile compared to the original study regarding the AQ scale. ASD traits were normally distributed in the neurotypical sample, and the scale seems to have a satisfactory performance to predict ASD. Human T cell leukemia virus type-I (HTLV-1) infection courses with a myelopathy, the tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). In a case-control study, we compared the neuropsychological profile and functional characteristics in two case HTLV-1-infected groups (asymptomatic and with HAM/TSP) with a control group negative for HTLV-1. Subjects were paired for age, sex, and educational features. The case group differed from control group in neuropsychological measures such as in episodic memory recall, executive functions, and fine motor dexterity measure. Individuals with HAM/TSP have more depressive symptoms and worst performance in activities of daily living (ADL) presenting a less functionality. In multivariate models, the fine motor performance, the executive functioning, the recognition memory, and the depressive symptoms explained part of the variance in functionality. Those findings may contribute to understand of everyday life impairments and limitations of HTLV-1-infected population and to organize the rehabilitation. Once more, based in neuropsychological and functional data, we can reaffirm that HTLV-1 is never a benign condition, but sometimes it is only in a stage coursing with less symptoms., (© 2020. Objectives: There are limited longitudinal data regarding gingival inflammation in adults. This study aimed to assess changes in gingivitis over 4 years and to determine protective factors., Methods: A representative sample of 1023 adults living in Porto Alegre, Brazil, was obtained in the Caries-Perio Collaboration Study. At follow-up, 402 individuals were re-examined. Gingivitis was assessed by the gingival bleeding index (GB) at both time points. Individuals were dichotomized into those showing reductions ≥ 15% and those showing reductions < 15% or increase in bleeding sites. Multivariable Poisson regression models were fitted with 11 possible risk factors, estimating relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI)., Results: Percentage of individuals with GB ≥ 10% reduced from 72.4% to 53.8%. Bleeding sites significantly reduced (25.9%-20.1%), and in a higher magnitude in buccal/palatal sites (34.1%-24.0%). 31.0% of individuals presented GB reduction ≥ 15% in all sites. Toothbrushing ≥ 3 times/d increased 72% the probability of ≥15% GB reduction compared with ≤1/d (RR = 1.72; 95% CI 1.01-3.16). For each 10 pack-years smoked, the probability of ≥15% GB reduction was 3% higher (RR = 1.03; 95% CI: 1.01-1.04). At buccal/palatal sites, normal weight individuals had 26% higher probability of reducing GB than overweight-obese individuals (RR = 1.26; 95% CI: 1.01-1.62). A 5% higher decrease in GB sites was observed in the absence than the presence of periodontitis. Younger individuals had higher reduction in GB sites., Conclusions: In the studied population, gingivitis reduced over time, with younger age, better oral hygiene, absence of periodontitis and normal weight being found to be protective factors. Health professionals may be a vulnerable group to posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. To investigate how health professionals who experienced a traumatic event are expressing PTSS and factors related to risk for higher PTSS symptomatology can inform how health professionals are facing their role in this crisis. This was an Internet cross-sectional survey. Participants were 49,767 Brazilian health professionals who have ever faced a traumatic event, which was about 25.9% of an initial sample of health professionals. PTSS symptoms were assessed using the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) and latent profile analysis (LPA) explored subpopulations within participants based on their scores. Distinct profiles were compared for psychological distress (e.g., depression and anxiety) and quality of life. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between IES-R profiles and COVID-19 related experiences, thoughts, and perceptions. A two-profile model was the most appropriate for the IES-R data pointing out a group with a high level of PTSS (named high-PTSS; n = 10,401, 20.9%) and another expressing a low level of symptoms (named low-PTSS; n = 39,366, 79.1%). The high-PTSS profile demonstrated worse psychological scores (global psychological distress, somatization, depression, and anxiety) and worse quality of life (physical, psychological, social, and environmental) with moderate magnitudes. Small but significant predictors of the high-PTSS profile included sociodemographic characteristics and COVID-19 related experiences, thoughts, and perceptions. Most individuals who experienced a traumatic event were not in the high-PTSS profile. For those who were, however, psychological and quality of life measures were much worse. Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) figures among the most common neurodevelopmental disorders. Despite having opposite stereotypes, both ADHD and ASD compromise, though in different ways, skills such as social interactions, communication skills, and social thinking, which may underlie difficulties in romantic relationships. Methods: We evaluated 306 adults about their romantic relationships and the intensity of their love. Participants were from one of four groups:, individuals with ASD-only traits, a group with symptoms of ADHD-only, participants with neither ADHD nor ASD symptoms (control) or from a fourth group of individuals with both ADHD and ASD traits. Results: The ASD traits group had fewer married people and more people who have never been married, while the rate of divorce was higher in the ADHD traits group. Regarding the intensity of love, the mean scores of the ADHD and the ADHD+ASD traits groups were higher in the Passionate Love Scale than the mean score of the control group. Passionate love in the ASD group was no different from the other groups. Small positive correlations were found between passionate love and ADHD and ASD behavioral problems. Conclusion: Marital status was distinct depending on symptoms of a neurodevelopmental disorder in adulthood. Also, ADHD and ASD symptoms were associated with greater passionate love. Therefore, ADHD and ASD behavioral dimensions may impact long-term and short-term experiences of a person's relationship with a significant other in distinct ways. Objective: Our objective is to provide a descriptive analysis of the quality of life among a large sample of health professionals in the early days of the pandemic., Method: We surveyed in the first months of the pandemics with the logistical support of the Health ministry in Brazil reaching more than 200,000 varied health professionals, with quality-of-life data, assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF, available to 97,379. A randomized controlled parallel clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the association of 1.23% topical professional acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel with oral hygiene and dietary instructions on the arrest of active non-cavitated lesions in permanent, mixed, and temporary dentition in children between 3 and 12 years of age. Ninety-eight caries-active children were randomly divided into two groups: a fluoride gel group (n = 49) and a non-fluoridated gel group (n = 49). Each group received up to eight weekly applications of gel, weekly professional toothbrushing with oral hygiene instructions and dietary counselling. Caries lesions were assessed qualitatively through visual-tactile criteria performed in three stages: initial, intermediate, and final. Regression models were applied to identify risk indicators for caries control. Between-group comparison regarding the time taken to arrest the lesions was performed using Chi-squared and Fisher's exact tests. Seventeen children did not receive the allocated intervention, and one was lost to follow-up (n = 80). There was no difference between the control and placebo groups regarding the time to the arrest of the lesion (p >.05). The treatments showed similar results without significant statistical difference (p = 0.33; 95%CI: 0.32-1.48). No adverse effects were observed. It can be concluded that no additional effect of the association of 1.23% APF gel with oral hygiene using fluoride dentifrice and dietary instructions on the arrest of active non-cavitated lesions could be established. We can also confirm the importance of toothbrushing frequency and, consequently, the visible plaque reduction in the control of caries activity. RBR-37V5S3.

Aim: To describe changes in gingival recession (GR) at buccal and palatal sites in adults over an average follow-up of 4 years., Materials and Methods: Baseline data were obtained from a multistage probabilistic representative sample of 1023 individuals aged ≥35 years from Porto Alegre, Brazil. Buccal and palatal/lingual GR were analysed., Results: 402 individuals (6,862 teeth) were followed. At baseline, 3,356 (48.9%) teeth did not have GR at the buccal site and 1206 developed the condition overtime (incidence =35.9%; 95% CI 32.6-38.9). Percentage of incident teeth was higher among individuals with (42.3%) than those without (29.5%) periodontitis stages III/IV. Also, 38.5% of teeth with proximal attachment loss at follow-up had incident GR compared to 7.6% of those without proximal attachment loss. Incidence of palatal GR was observed in 32.5% of teeth (95% CI 29.7-35.3). Mean buccal and palatal/lingual GR incidence was 2.11 mm and 2.33 mm, whereas buccal and palatal/lingual GR progression equalled 0.40 mm and 0.48 mm. This study aimed to evaluate the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and associated factors in the elderly. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 287 elderly of Cruz Alta, Brazil. The following variables were collected: age, sex, ethnicity, level of education, marital status, retirement, medical/dental history, smoking/alcohol exposure, oral hygiene habits, use and need of dental prosthesis, missing teeth, temporomandibular disorder symptoms (TMD), nutritional status, and halitosis. OHRQoL was assessed by Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). The sample was categorized into low impact (sum scores ≤6) and high impact (sum scores ≥7). Associations were analyzed by Poisson regression with robust variation. Mean scores of OHIP-14 was 5.92±8.54. Divorced individuals and those who did not use dental floss presented 77% and 54%, respectively, higher prevalence ratio (PR) of having higher OHRQoL impact. Elderly that did not need dental prosthesis demonstrated a lower impact on OHRQoL (P<0.01). Elderly with TMD presented a higher PR of having higher OHRQoL impact (P<0.01). It was concluded that higher impact on OHRQoL was associated with marital status, non-users of dental floss and those with TMD. No need dental prosthesis were associated with lower impact on OHRQoL.

Impulsivity is highly associated with psychopathology and dysfunctional behavior. An abbreviated Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (ABIS) was proposed as a validated, reliable and less time-consuming scale. We tested in a sample of adults, its psychometric properties and computed a reliable change index for clinical use. Internal consistency, test-retest stability suggested high reliability, while significant correlations with measures of psychiatric symptoms, and the original scale were evidence of validity. Objective: To compare the survival of restorations placed in deep caries lesions after selective caries removal to soft dentin (SCRSD) over a 5-year period. A secondary aim was to investigate whether the material (amalgam or resin composite) affected the survival of restorations., Methods: This study used data derived from a multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial (Clinical trials registration NCT00887952). Inclusion criteria were: patients with permanent molars presenting occlusal or proximal deep caries lesions (≥1/2 of the dentin thickness on radiographic examination), positive response to a cold test, absence of spontaneous pain, negative sensitivity to percussion, and absence of periapical lesions. The teeth were randomized into SCRSD and restoration in a single visit or stepwise excavation (SW). Each of these groups was divided according to the filling material: amalgam (AM) or resin composite (RC). Survival analyses were performed to estimate therapy success rates over 5 years (adjusted Weibull regression model)., Results: 172 restorations were evaluated, 95 from SCRSD group and 77 from SW group, being 61 AMG and 111 RC. The 5-year survival analysis showed similar success rates for SW (76 %) and SCRSD (79 %) as well as for AM and RC (p > 0.05)., Conclusion: This study showed that, after a 5-year follow-up period, the presence of decayed tissue beneath restorations in deep caries lesions did not seem to affect restoration survival. This study assessed the effectiveness of models for developing subsurface caries lesions in vitro and verified mineral changes by transverse microradiography (TMR). Enamel blocks from permanent (n=5) and deciduous teeth (n=5) were submitted to lesion induction by immersion in demineralizing solutions during 96 h, followed by pH cycles of demineralization (de) and remineralization (re) for 10 days. Two de-/re solutions were tested. Demineralizing solution "A" was composed by 2.2 mM CaCl2, 2.2 mM KH2PO4, 0.05 M acetic acid, with pH 4.4 adjusted by 1 M KOH. Demineralizing solution "B" was composed by 2.2 mM CaCl2, 2.2 mM NaH2PO4, 0.05 M acetic acid and 0.25 ppmF, with pH 4.5 adjusted by 1M KOH. Solution "A" produced cavitated lesions in permanent teeth, whereas solution "B" led to subsurface lesions in deciduous teeth. Solution "B" was then tested in enamel blocks from permanent teeth (n=5) and subsurface lesions were obtained, so that solution "B" was employed for both substrates, and the blocks were treated with slurries of a fluoride dentifrice (1450 ppm F, as NaF, n=5) or a fluoride-free dentifrice (n=5). Solution "B" produced subsurface lesions in permanent and primary teeth of an average (±SD) depth of 88.4µm (±14.3) and 89.3µm (±15.8), respectively. TMR analysis demonstrated that lesions treated with fluoride-free dentifrice had significantly greater mineral loss. This study concluded that solution "B" developed subsurface lesions after pH cycling, and that mineral changes were successfully assessed by TMR.

Objective: To investigate the psychometric properties of the short or multimodal treatment study version of the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham, Version IV (SNAP-IV) scale, which measures attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and oppositional defiant disorder symptoms., Methods: Participants were 765 parents of children from 4 to 16 years old (641 non-attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and 124 attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder children) from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, who reported sociodemographic characteristics and answered the SNAP-IV. Parents of the clinical sample also underwent the K-SADS-PL interview., Results: Age was significantly associated with SNAP-IV hyperactivity-impulsivity problems (r=-0.14), but not with inattention or oppositional defiant disorder. Sex was a significant influence on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and oppositional defiant disorder severity (all p<0.001), with boys showing higher scores in the full sample, but not within the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder group. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis supports a three-factor structure of the SNAP-IV scale. Moderate-to-strong correlations were found between SNAP-IV and K-SADS-PL measures. All SNAP-IV scales showed very high internal consistency coefficients (all above 0.91). SNAP-IV inattention scores were the most predictive of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder diagnosis (AUC: 0.877 for the averaging rating method and the raw sum method, and 0.874 for the symptom presence/absence method)., Conclusion: The parent SNAP-IV showed good psychometric properties in a Brazilian school and clinical sample., (Copyright © 2018 Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria. Aim: Determine the risk indicators of caries lesion activity in a child sample from Porto Alegre, Brazil., Materials and Methods: Study design: cross-sectional study included 97 individuals aged between 3 and 12-years who sought treatment at the Paediatric Clinic at the Dental Teaching Hospital at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, between 2017 and 2018. Questionnaires recorded sociodemographic data, frequency of sugar intake, and toothbrushing frequency. Clinical examination included the visible plaque index, gingival blood index, and caries lesion activity., Results: s The mean of surfaces with active caries lesions was 9.81 (IC 95% = 8.47-11.15). Children who presented a frequency of sugar intake of twice/day (PR = 1.62, IC 95% = 1.30-2.03), three times/day (PR = 1.68, IC 95% = 1.37-2.08), and four or more times/day (PR = 1.59, IC 95% = 1.26-2.01), were likely to have active lesions. Ages between 8 and 12-years were associated with a lower probability of active carious lesions (PR = 0.77, IC 95% = 0.66-088)., Statistics: Poisson regression analysis was used to estimate the child's relative risk of developing new active caries lesions., Conclusions: The monitoring of sugar intake should be considered a strong instrument for the strategies of control of dental caries in children.

Introduction: In this study, we proposed to investigate the association between infatuation/passionate love and impulsivity in a context of potential high impulsivity: adolescents with attention deficit and hyperactivity/impulsivity (ADHD) diagnosis compared with typically developing adolescents., Methods: Impulsivity was understood as an exploratory and a sensation seeking behavior, a trend to engage in novel and exciting activities, and was evaluated using the UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale. Eighty-one adolescents from 13-to-18 years old with and without ADHD diagnosis were compared regarding infatuation intensity, behavioral impulsivity, and social and educational profiles., Results: After correlation analysis, we found association between higher scores on the infatuation intensity with fewer years of formal education, heightened urgency and sensation seeking. On the other hand, using the generalized equation model, we showed that the association of passionate love with behavioral urgency and sensation seeking did not change in the presence of the ADHD diagnosis., Conclusion: The understanding of the relationship of impulsivity with infatuation might help to clarify why some population groups show an increased risk for many negative social outcomes.

Background: Motor impairments are frequently associated with preterm birth and interfere in acquisition of essential skills to global development. Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), the study of neural correlates of motor development in early stages of life are feasible in an ecological assessment., Aims: To evaluate changes in cortical activity in response to a sensorimotor stimulation in preterm and full-term infants at 6 and 12 months of age., Study Design: A longitudinal study was conducted with 22 infants (12 preterm and 10 full-term). Hemodynamic activity during sensorimotor task (8 blocks of 8 s of vibration applied to infant's right hand) was measured by Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS). The optical probe consisted of 84 channels positioned according to the international 10-20 system coordinates, covering the frontal (38 channels), parietal (16 channels), temporal (22 channels) and occipital (8 channels) lobes of both hemispheres., Results: Preterm and full-term infants exhibited differences of location of the activation as well on the hemodynamic response in both the evaluated age groups., Conclusions: Group differences in activation of sensorimotor cortex observed in this study demonstrate the potential of fNIRS application for preterm evaluation of motor development in children. The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of gingivitis and calculus and their predictors in a population of adults in Brazil. A representative sample of 758 adults from 35 to 59 years of age from Porto Alegre city was examined. A structured questionnaire was applied. The Gingival Bleeding Index and the presence of calculus were measured at 4 sites/tooth. Multivariable logistic models were fitted to determine the predictors for gingival bleeding at >20% of sites. Overall, 96.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]=95.1-98.0) of individuals had ≥ 1 bleeding site. The mean percentages of sites with gingivitis and calculus were 26.1% and 44.6%, respectively. The odds of gingivitis decreased by ∼45% for individuals ≥40 years old compared to younger adults. Individuals that never performed interproximal cleaning and non-whites had an approximately two times higher chance of gingivitis. Smokers had lower chances of gingivitis than never-smokers (odds ratio=0.40; 95% CI=0.24-0.68). Higher numbers of missing teeth were associated with higher chances of gingivitis. The percentage of calculus was significantly associated with skin color, education, proximal cleaning, smoking exposure, dental visits, and tooth loss. It can be concluded that the occurrence of gingivitis and calculus was high in this Brazilian population, and it was associated with age, skin color, education, self-reported proximal cleaning, smoking, dental care, and tooth loss.

Patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) may present cognitive deficits within the first 24 h after trauma, herein called "acute phase," which in turn may lead to long-term functional impairment and decrease in quality of life. Few studies investigated cognition in mTBI patients during the acute phase. The objectives of this study were to investigate the cognitive profile of patients with mTBI during the acute phase, compared to controls and normative data, and whether loss of consciousness (LOC), previous TBI and level of education influence cognition at this stage. Fifty-three patients with mTBI (aged 19-64 years) and 28 healthy controls participated in the study. All patients were evaluated at bedside within 24 h post-injury. Demographic and clinical data were registered. Cognitive function was assessed with the Mini-mental state examination (MMSE), the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB), Digit Span (working memory), and the Visual Memory Test/Brief Cognitive Battery (for episodic memory). The clinical sample was composed mainly by men (58.5%). The mean age was 39 years-old and 64.3% of the patients had more than 8 years of education. The most common causes of mTBI were fall from own height (28.3%), aggression (24.5%), and fall from variable heights (24.5%). Compared to controls, mTBI patients exhibited significantly worse performance on MMSE, FAB, naming, incidental memory, immediate memory, learning, and delayed recall. Compared to normative data, 26.4% of patients had reduced global cognition as measured by the MMSE. Episodic memory impairment (13.2%) was more frequent than executive dysfunction (9.4%). No significant differences were found in cognitive performance when comparing patients with or without LOC or those with or without history of previous TBI. Patients with lower educational level had higher rates of cognitive impairment (VMT naming-28.6 vs. 4.2%; VMT immediate memory-32 vs. 4.2%; VMT learning-39.3 vs. 4.2%, all p < 0.05). In sum, we found significant cognitive impairment in the acute phase of mTBI, which was not associated with LOC or history of TBI, but appeared more frequently in patients with lower educational level.

Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) can cause a wide range of cognitive deficits, but its underlying nature is still unknown. We investigated the correlation between cognitive performance and specific patterns of resting-state brain metabolism in a NF1 sample. Sixteen individuals diagnosed with NF1 underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT brain imaging followed by a neuropsychological assessment. Principal component analysis was performed on 17 measures of cognitive function and a machine learning approach based on Gaussian Process Regression was used to individually predict the components that represented most of the variance in the neuropsychological data. The accuracy of the method was estimated using leave-one-out cross-validation and its significance through permutation testing. We found that only the first component could be accurately predicted from resting state metabolism (r = 0.926, p<0.001). Multiple and heterogeneous measures contribute to the first component, mainly WISC/WAIS Procedure and Verbal IQ, verbal memory and fluency. Considering the accurate prediction of measures of neuropsychological performance based on brain metabolism in NF1 patients, this suggests an underlying metabolic pattern that relates to cognitive performance in this group., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

Objective: This multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial aimed to compare the outcomes of stepwise excavation (SW) and partial caries removal (PCR) regarding the maintenance of pulp vitality in deep caries lesions over 5 years., Methods: At baseline, 299 permanent molars with deep caries lesions were randomly assigned to control or test groups. The control group received the stepwise excavation treatment (SW), while the test group received partial caries removal from the pulpal wall followed by restoration in a single session (PCR). Treatments were conducted in two centers located in the cities of Porto Alegre (South Brazil) and Brasília (Midwest Brazil). Survival analysis was performed to compare PCR and SW over time (Weibull regression models). The primary outcome of this study was pulp vitality, determined by the combination of the following characteristics: positive response to cold test, negative response to percussion, absence of spontaneous pain, and absence of periapical lesion (radiographic examination)., Results: This 5-year study includes data pertaining to 229 teeth: 121 teeth actually examined at the 5-year appointment, and 108 teeth contributed with data collected in previous follow-ups (18 months or 3 years). Survival analysis showed success rates of 80% in PCR group and 56% in SW group (p < 0.001). Failure was significantly associated with treatment [PCR, HR=0.38; 95%CI=0.23-0.63)] and region [South, HR=2.22; 95%CI=1.21-4.08]., Conclusion: PCR significantly reduced the occurrence of pulp necrosis when compared with SW., Clinical Relevance: This study supports the PCR as a single-visit technique to manage deep caries lesions in permanent teeth.

This study aimed to assess task-induced activation in motor cortex and its association with motor performance in full-term and preterm born infants at six months old. A cross-sectional study of 73 six-month-old infants was conducted (35 full-term and 38 preterm infants). Motor performance was assessed using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development third edition-Bayley-III. Brain hemodynamic activity during motor task was measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Motor performance was similar in full-term and preterm infants. However, differences in hemodynamic response were identified. Full terms showed a more homogeneous unilateral and contralateral activated area, whereas in preterm-born the activation response was predominantly bilateral. The full-term group also exhibited a shorter latency for the hemodynamic response than the preterm group. Hemodynamic activity in the left sensorimotor region was positively associated with motor performance measured by Bayley-III. The results highlight the adequacy of fNIRS to assess differences in task-induced activation in sensorimotor cortex between groups. The association between motor performance and the hemodynamic activity require further investigation and suggest that fNIRS can become a suitable auxiliary tool to investigate aspects of neural basis on early development of motor abilities.

A direct method based on the application of paper spray mass spectrometry (PS-MS) combined with a chemometric supervised method (partial least square discriminant analysis, PLS-DA) was developed and applied to the discrimination of authentic and counterfeit samples of blended Scottish whiskies. The developed methodology employed the negative ion mode MS, included 44 authentic whiskies from diverse brands and batches and 44 counterfeit samples of the same brands seized during operations of the Brazilian Federal Police, totalizing 88 samples. An exploratory principal component analysis (PCA) model showed a reasonable discrimination of the counterfeit whiskies in PC2. In spite of the samples heterogeneity, a robust, reliable and accurate PLS-DA model was generated and validated, which was able to correctly classify the samples with nearly 100% success rate. The use of PS-MS also allowed the identification of the main marker compounds associated with each type of sample analyzed: authentic or counterfeit., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. In this work, Raman hyperspectral imaging, in conjunction with independent component analysis, was employed as an analytical methodology to detect an ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) explosive in banknotes after an ATM explosion experiment. The proposed methodology allows for the identification of the ANFO explosive without sample preparation or destroying the sample, at quantities as small as 70μgcm -2 . The explosive was identified following ICA data decomposition by the characteristic nitrate band at 1044cm -1 . The use of Raman hyperspectral imaging and independent component analysis shows great potential for identifying forensic samples by providing chemical and spatial information., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V. The discrimination of whisky brands and counterfeit identification were performed by UV-Vis spectroscopy combined with partial least squares for discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). In the proposed method all spectra were obtained with no sample preparation. The discrimination models were built with the employment of seven whisky brands: Red Label, Black Label, White Horse, Chivas Regal (12years), Ballantine's Finest, Old Parr and Natu Nobilis. The method was validated with an independent test set of authentic samples belonging to the seven selected brands and another eleven brands not included in the training samples. Furthermore, seventy-three counterfeit samples were also used to validate the method. Results showed correct classification rates for genuine and false samples over 98.6% and 93.1%, respectively, indicating that the method can be helpful for the forensic analysis of whisky samples., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. Introduction: In the assessment of older adults with very low formal education, typical tests of selective attention and inhibitory control are biased by reading abilities. In this sense, we aim to assess the psychometric characteristics of the Five Digits Test (FDT), a numerical Stroop paradigm, in older adults without cognitive disorders, with mild cognitive impairment, and with dementia., Methods: We assessed 211 Brazilian older adults with low formal education using the FDT and other cognitive measures. Construct validity and reliability were assessed by correlations and internal consistency., Results: The FDT test had weak correlations with crystalized intelligence tests and moderate-high correlations with fluid intelligence measures and tests of global cognitive status and executive functions. The split-half coefficient of reliability showed high internal consistency (>0.900)., Conclusion: Together, the results suggest that the FDT is a valid and reliable measure for the assessment of processing speed and executive functions in older adults with low formal education.
