ABSTRACT Plant yield is strongly influenced by the amount of water used by it. In this sense, yield response factor (Ky) allows evaluating the decrease in yield as a function of the evapotranspiration that occurs, which may be an important tool for harvest forecasting. Therefore, this study aimed to determine Ky for winter corn crop grown in the region of Dourados, MS, Brazil. The yield function analysis based on the water factor, which requires actual (Ya) and maximum (Ym) yield data, as well as actual (ETa) and maximum (ETm) evapotranspiration, was used to adjust Ky. Ym was assumed to be 8,820 kg ha−1, while Ya was obtained for each season from the database SIDRA from IBGE. ETm and ETa were estimated by sequential daily water balance, considering four different sowing dates (all in the off-season). In total, seasons from 2001 to 2013 were analyzed. The high Ky value obtained (1.22) for winter corn crop showed its high sensitivity to water deficit. Its yield is strongly influenced by water availability so that for every 1% reduction in evapotranspiration, there is a 1.22% yield reduction.

Background: Identifying factors associated with physical activity (PA) is useful in planning interventions and policies. The aim of this study was to identify sociodemographic, biological, and psychosocial factors associated with PA performed in school settings. Methods: Data collected for the present study included gender, age, socioeconomic status, body fat percentage, aerobic fitness, self-efficacy, attitudes, peer and parental support, and perception of school environment. Dependent variables were light-intensity PA (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA (MVPA) performed during school time, recesses, and physical education (PE) classes. Multiple regression analyses were performed. Results: Participating adolescents (n = 567, 53% female, 12.9 ± 5.3 years) spent 5% of school time in MVPA and 27% in LPA, 15% of recesses in MVPA and 44% in LPA, and 16% of PE classes in MVPA and 41% in LPA. Boys engaged in more MVPA in all categories. Age was inversely related with MVPA and LPA in all periods, whereas body fat percentage was inversely related with MVPA in school time and PE classes. Attitude was inversely related with MVPA in all periods and with LPA in recesses. Considering PA to be good and enjoyable was positively associated with MVPA in school time. Conclusion: Adolescents spent little time in PA during school. Future interventions should implement enjoyable activities at school. This study was conducted using data from the SCAALA (Social Change Asthma and Allergy in Latin America) cohort in Brazil from 2005 to 2013. We examined the seroprevalence and risk factors of toxocariasis, a parasitic infection leading to conditions such as visceral larva migrans, utilizing an indirect ELISA with T. canis antigens, alongside with data from questionnaires, eosinophil counts, sIgE to aeroallergens, IL-10 levels, and Skin Prick Test results; the research provided insights into the disease’s dynamics. The prevalence of anti-Toxocara spp. IgG increased from 48% to 53% over the studied period, with a 25% increase in new cases in 2013. The significant risk factors included age and pet exposure, while higher maternal education and living on paved streets were found to offer protection. The study uncovered a complex interaction between Toxocara spp. infection and the immune system, indicating that the infection could both trigger inflammation and modulate skin reactions. Based on these findings, the study proposed a roadmap for controlling toxocariasis, which includes strategies such as enhancing public education about the disease and preventive measures, improving environmental sanitation, strengthening veterinary control measures like pet deworming, increasing access to healthcare and screening, and implementing community-based interventions to address the identified risk factors. These measures aim to reduce the prevalence of toxocariasis and its impact on public health by addressing environmental and socioeconomic risk factors, providing a pathway to significantly reduce the burden of this parasitic infection.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the suitability of emergency remote education (ERE) during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently during the return to in-person education (IPE), investigating aspects of perceived quality differences in these transitions that may have impacted the students' learning process. Design/methodology/approach: This study applied a 41-item instrument to undergraduate students in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Brazil. For the suitability group, 493 responses were collected, and for the return to IPE group, 187 responses were collected. Three calibration approaches were performed using item response theory, with the first two adjusting data independently, and the third one involving a multigroup estimation. Findings: During ERE, students perceived an increase in course offerings, better organization of classes and more study materials. However, the larger volume of content posed challenges in class monitoring, content comprehension and concentration. Upon returning to IPE, students noticed more organized assessments and activities. They found favorable test environments and collaborative tasks with peers, but they experienced difficulties in accessing professors and with class/content organization. Practical implications: By identifying the most suitable items for both teaching formats, HEIs can enhance teaching practices that are more satisfactory from the students' perspective. Originality/value: This study provides an item ranking procedure inspired by differential item functioning and differential test functioning statistics. In an atypical situation, the item ranking procedure demonstrated its ability to generate useful information for identifying and quantifying the longitudinal effects of perceived quality on students.

Abstract Background The way physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) independently and interactively modify the age‐related decline in physical capacity remains poorly understood. This cross‐sectional study investigated the independent and interactive associations of PA and SB with physical function and performance throughout the adult life course. Methods Data from 499 community‐dwelling adults (63% female) aged 20–92 years, involved in the INSPIRE Human Translational Cohort, were used in this cross‐sectional study. Daily time spent on moderate‐to‐vigorous PA (MVPA, min/day) and SB (h/day) was measured with activPAL triaxial accelerometers. Physical function and performance were assessed through the measurement of the 4‐m usual gait speed (m/s), handgrip strength (kg), lower‐limb strength (isokinetic knee extension torque, N·m), estimated lower‐limb power (five‐time chair‐rise test performance, s) and cardiorespiratory fitness (V̇O2max, mL/kg/min). Confounder‐adjusted multiple linear and curvilinear regressions were performed to investigate how MVPA, SB and their interactions were associated with the physical outcomes (all square root‐transformed except gait speed) throughout the adulthood spectrum. Abstract Brazil’s Atlantic Forest (BAF) is a highly fragmented, strategic environmental and socio-economic region that represents the fourth biodiversity hotspot while also producing many commodities that are exported globally. Human disturbance plays a pivotal role as a driver of BAF’s soil dynamics and behaviors. The soils under Late Primary and Secondary Semideciduous Seasonal Forests (LPSF and LSSF) were characterized by high to moderate resilience, with improved chemical properties as human disturbance decreased. The Transitional Forest to Cerrado (TFC) had the worst soil conditions. A escola pública tem como função social a formação do cidadão, contribuindo para a construção de conhecimentos, atitudes e valores, tornando-o um sujeito ético, crítico solidário e participativo. Nesse processo, o Conselho Escolar é um lugar privilegiado de participação democrática, dado que congrega a comunidade escolar na totalidade. O presente artigo tem por objetivo situar a educação como um direito humano, a função social da escola pública e, em seguida, apresentar o Conselho Escolar, sua historicidade e seu papel na gestão democrática do espaço escolar. O estudo dialoga com os tratados e acordos internacionais, a legislação brasileira e a produção bibliográfica concernente ao tema. Os documentos e a literatura defendem a ideia da escola pública como um espaço privilegiado para o exercício da democracia participativa, o que, na prática, reflete em uma gestão democrática da escola, com a escolha de seus gestores e a participação da comunidade escolar, por meio da organização e atuação ativa dos Conselhos Escolares.

Efforts are needed to better understand what are the effective pathways that can optimize success in school-based physical activity interventions. This study aimed to investigate the mediators of a school-based intervention in the practice of physical activity in Brazilian students. The Fortaleça sua Saúde [Strengthen Your Health] program followed 1,085 students (11-18 years) over a semester. This multi-component intervention included training teachers, offering physical activity opportunities, and health education. Self-reported moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and potential mediators (attitude, self-efficacy, social support, perceived neighborhood environment, and physical activity facilities at school) were assessed. The product of coefficient analysis was performed. The sample was composed of 1,085 students (51.5% boys). The total effect of the intervention was 0.706 (95%CI: 0.276; 1.136). A total of 40% of the intervention effect on moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was explained by attitude towards physical activity and social support from friends and teachers. Social support from friends was a significant mediator only among boys (ab: 0.113, 95%CI: 0.027; 0.256), and social support from teachers only among girls (ab: 0.135, 95%CI: 0.019; 0.328); indicating a statistically significant indirect effect of the program on moderate-to-vigorous physical activity via these mediators. A relevant part of the effect of a multicomponent intervention on physical activity among students from vulnerable areas is explained by changes via variables at different levels of the socioecological model, including social support from friends and teachers, and attitude towards physical activity. These results should be considered in public policies.

Contextualização: Desde o momento em que os colonizadores chegaram ao Brasil, as mulheres indígenas têm sido alvo de discriminação e violência de várias formas, principalmente por conta de preconceitos de gênero e etnia. Assim, mesmo após mais de 500 anos de luta por um lugar de acolhimento, esforço para preservar suas origens e garantir a subsistência de seu povo, essas mulheres ainda não ocupam os espaços de destaque social e organizacional que merecem. Objetivo: O presente artigo tem como objetivo compreender os caminhos interseccionais percorridos por mulheres indígenas na gestão organizacional. No que tange aos "caminhos interseccionais", este estudo reconhece como as identidades sobrepostas de gênero e etnia podem moldar de maneira única as experiências de mulheres indígenas, influenciando suas jornadas desde a formação acadêmica até o alcance de cargos de liderança. Método: Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo que utilizou o método do relato oral. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com a participação de quatro gestoras indígenas atuantes na região amazônica. Resultados: Os relatos obtidos evidenciaram as violências causadas pela interação dos marcadores sociais de gênero e etnia nas vidas pessoais e profissionais das entrevistadas, desde a saída de suas comunidades para estudar nas cidades, durante a permanência na universidade, até a ocupação de cargos gerenciais. Conclusões: Esta pesquisa contribui para a teoria interseccional ao abordar o gênero e a etnia em um contexto pouco explorado pela literatura - mulheres indígenas em cargos de liderança - e avança na compreensão da diversidade nas organizações. Além disso, contribui para a reflexão sobre a necessidade de desenvolvimento de políticas de diversidade e inclusão e de melhorar as práticas de gestão organizacional.

This research assessed the recycling feasibility of sewage sludges from Brazilian wastewater treatment plants for producing ceramic bricks. The process of treating sewage generates a large amount of sludge, primarily organic, that is frequently disposed of in landfills. This sludge can contain heavy metals and pathogens, depending on its origin. In this sense, this study evaluated the use of two different types of sludge (ranging from 0 to 10 wt% in place of clay) as starting materials in the production of ceramic bricks by microstructural and physico-mechanical analyzes. The results show that the addition of sludge decreases the apparent density of the bricks and increase the susceptibility of efflorescence formation, which is due to the higher porosity that is generated during the firing process. Although water absorption is increased, the levels remain within the commercial standards for bricks. On the other hand, the presence of sludge softens the presence of harmful elements such as Al, Ba, Fe, and Zn in the final product. The compressive strength and linear shrinkage of the bricks are not significantly affected by the addition of sludge. It was noticed that including up to 6 wt% of sewage sludge in the clay mixture for producing ceramic bricks is a viable and sustainable recycling solution with low environmental impact. The addition of 10 wt% sewage sludge significantly reduces the compressive strength and density and increases the water absorption of the bricks.

Uma forma de monitorar as mudanças nas comunidades vegetais do bioma Cerrado ao longo do tempo é através da instalação de parcelas permanentes. Estudos dessa temática são importantes para conhecer a dinâmica do bioma e propor planos de manejo adequados para sua conservação. Neste sentido, esse estudo tem como objetivo apresentar uma revisão sistemática de artigos científicos que realizaram o monitoramento do bioma Cerrado utilizando parcelas permanentes. Para realizar a revisão sistemática de literatura, foram feitas buscas nas bases de dados Scopus e Web of Science, entre 1997 e 2022. Foram encontrados 77 artigos com a temática proposta, onde 61% dos artigos estudou as mudanças temporais da vegetação arbórea, a fitofisionomia de Cerrado sensu stricto é a que possui o maior número de estudos dessa temática, 35% das parcelas permanentes tem dimensões e 20x50 e o estado do Mato Grosso é o que mais possui estudos com parcelas permanentes, enquanto que o Mato Grosso do Sul é o estado que possui menos estudos com a temática. Foi encontrado uma carência de pesquisa em diferentes fitofisionomias do Cerrado, assim como a concentração dos estudos em poucos estados brasileiros.

This study describes the synthesis and characterization of chlorambucil (CLB)-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) for potential application in cancer therapy. The nanoparticles were designed with a diameter between 20 and 50 nm to optimize cellular uptake and avoid rapid clearance from the bloodstream. The synthesis method involved modifying a previously reported technique to reduce particle size. Successful functionalization with CLB was confirmed through various techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analysis. The cytotoxicity of the CLB-functionalized nanoparticles (MSN@NH2-CLB) was evaluated against human lung adenocarcinoma cells (A549) and colon carcinoma cells (CT26WT). The results suggest significantly higher cytotoxicity of MSN@NH2-CLB compared to unbound CLB, with improved selectivity towards cancer cells over normal cells. This suggests that MSN@NH2-CLB holds promise as a drug delivery system for targeted cancer therapy.

Resumo Fundamento A hipertensão arterial sistêmica é um fator de risco para disfunções cardíacas, renais e metabólicas. A busca por novas estratégias para prevenir e tratar doenças cardiovasculares levou à síntese de novas N-acilidrazonas para produzir efeito anti-hipertensivo. Os receptores de adenosina são um alvo alternativo para reduzir a pressão arterial devido à sua ação vasodilatadora e propriedades antioxidantes, que podem reduzir o estresse oxidativo característico da hipertensão arterial sistêmica. Objetivo Avaliar o perfil anti-hipertensivo de novos compostos contendo selênio desenvolvidos para melhorar sua interação com os receptores de adenosina. Métodos Foi avaliada a reatividade vascular, registrando-se a tensão isométrica da aorta torácica pré-contraída de ratos Wistar machos após exposição a concentrações crescentes de cada derivado (0,1 a 100 μM). Para investigar o efeito anti-hipertensivo em ratos espontaneamente hipertensos, foram determinadas a pressão arterial sistólica, pressão arterial diastólica, pressão arterial média e a frequência cardíaca após administração intravenosa de 10 e 30 μmol/kg do composto selecionado LASSBio-2062. Resultados Os compostos denominados LASSBio-2062, LASSBio-2063, LASSBio-2075, LASSBio-2076, LASSBio-2084, LASSBio-430, LASSBio-2092 e LASSBio-2093 promoveram vasodilatação com concentrações efetivas médias de 15,5 ± 6,5; 14,6 ± 2,9; 18,7 ± 9,6; 6,7 ± 4,1; > 100; 6,0 ± 3,6; 37,8 ± 11,8; e 15,9 ± 5,7 μM, respectivamente. O LASSBio-2062 (30 μmol/kg) reduziu a pressão arterial média em ratos espontaneamente hipertensos de 124,6 ± 8,6 para 72,0 ± 12,3 mmHg (p < 0,05). A ativação do receptor de adenosina subtipo A3 e dos canais de potássio parece estar envolvida no efeito anti-hipertensivo do LASSBio-2062. Conclusões O novo agonista do receptor de adenosina e ativador dos canais de potássio é um potencial agente terapêutico para o tratamento da hipertensão arterial sistêmica.

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar um produto educacional resultado da dissertação intitulada "Ensino e aprendizagem de produção textual, uma proposta baseada na problematização, nos recursos tecnológicos digitais e no mundo do trabalho" do Mestrado Profissional em Ensino e suas Tecnologias. O produto educacional é composto por uma sequência didática que aborda a temática do mundo do trabalho para o ensino de produção textual de Currículo e Portfólio Profissional. No intuito de levar o estudante à resolução de problemas e desenvolvimento de sua autonomia de variadas formas optou-se pela adoção da aprendizagem baseada em problemas com uso de recursos tecnológicos digitais. As principais ferramentas selecionadas para desenvolvimento das atividades e inclusão do aluno no mundo digital foram o Google Drive, a plataforma Edulivre e o Padlet. Este PE foi desenvolvido com alunos da 2ª série do Ensino Médio noturno de uma escola pública estadual de forma presencial e remota. Dos alunos participantes, apenas 11% cumpriu a proposta integralmente. A baixa adesão às aulas remotas aponta a necessidade de oferta de políticas públicas que efetivem a garantia constitucional do direito de acesso à Educação.

Introdução/Objetivo: A tuberculose (TB) é uma bactéria de morfologia bacilar, causado pelo Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Apesar de dispor de tratamento, um dos desafios no combate à doença é a não adesão adequado ao tratamento, que junto a capacidade mutável e adaptável do bacilo contribuem para o surgimento de estirpes resistentes. Assim, novas estratégias farmacêuticas como nanossistemas vem sendo desenvolvidos com o intuito de melhorar o tratamento da TB. Aprimorar a eficácia terapêutica de drogas, bem como, tornar medicamentos sítio-específicos, são algumas das alternativas destes nanossistemas. Desta forma, este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver, caracterizar e analisar in vitro nanossistemas poliméricos, sitio-especifico frente ao Mtb. Métodos: Os nanossistemas foram preparados pela técnica de emulsificação aniônica e caracterizados quanto ao tamanho e carga de superfície pelo ZetaSizer SZ90. A morfologia foi determinada através de Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura e a eficiência de encapsulação pelo Espectrofotômetro. A análise in vitro foi realizada em cepa sensível de Mtb (H37Rv) e isolado clínico resistente (MDR 551), onde a ação do nanossistema foi analisada pelo método de Concentração Inibitória Mínima (MIC), a interação farmacológica pela técnica de Concentração Inibitória Fracionada (FIC) junto aos antibióticos do tratamento sensível e resistente da TB e efeito citotóxico através da técnica de MTT em linhagem celular (J774.A1). Resultados: Os nanossistemas obtiveram tamanho nanométrico, variando entre 400 nm e 480 nm, carga de superfície negativa (-47,9), morfologia arredondada e taxa de encapsulação variando entre 40 e 50%. O MIC variou entre 0,412 μg/mL para H37Rv e 1,238 μg/mL em MDR 551 e o FIC do nanossistema não expressou interferência na ação dos antibióticos utilizados no tratamento da doença. Já à análise citotóxica manteve viabilidade celular entre 80% e 96%. Conclusão: Desta forma podemos concluir que os nanossistemas demonstraram atividade contra cepa sensível e isolado clínico resistente de TB, não interferindo na ação do esquema atual de tratamento e manteve alta viabilidade celular. Estes resultados sugerem que o sistema pode ser uma opção promissora para o tratamento da tuberculose. No entanto, a continuação da pesquisa é necessária para avaliar sua eficácia em futuros ensaios in vitro e in vivo.

Abstract The nucleocapsid (N) protein plays critical roles in coronavirus genome transcription and packaging, representing a key target for the development of novel antivirals, and for which structural information on ligand binding is scarce. We used a novel fluorescence polarization assay to identify small molecules that disrupt the binding of the N protein to a target RNA derived from the SARS-CoV-2 genome packaging signal. Several phenolic compounds, including L-chicoric acid (CA), were identified as high-affinity N-protein ligands. The binding of CA to the N protein was confirmed by isothermal titration calorimetry, 1H-STD and 15N-HSQC NMR, and by the crystal structure of CA bound to the N protein C-terminal domain (CTD), further revealing a new modulatory site in the SARS-CoV-2 N protein. Moreover, CA reduced SARS-CoV-2 replication in cell cultures. These data thus open venues for the development of new antivirals targeting the N protein, an essential and yet underexplored coronavirus target.

Chronic pain presents a major challenge in contemporary medicine, given the limited effectiveness and numerous adverse effects linked to available treatments. Recognizing the potential of the cholinergic pathway as a therapeutic target, the present work evaluates the antinociceptive activity of a combination of Cris-104, a novel α4β2* receptor agonist, and donepezil, a central anticholinesterase agent. Isobolographic analysis revealed that equimolar combination was approximately 10 times more potent than theoretically calculated equipotent additive dose. Administration of Cris-104 and donepezil combination (3 μmol/kg) successfully reversed hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia observed in rats subjected to spinal nerve ligation (SNL). The combination also modulated neuroinflammation by reducing astrocyte activation, evident in the decreased expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the spinal cord. The observed synergism in combining a nicotinic receptor agonist with an anticholinesterase agent underscores its potential for treating chronic pain. This alternative therapeutic distinct advantage, including dose reduction and high selectivity for the receptor, contribute to a more favorable profile with minimized adverse effects.

It is estimated that 250 million people worldwide are affected by schistosomiasis. Disease transmission is related to the poor sanitation and hygiene habits that affect residents of impoverished regions in tropical and subtropical countries. The main species responsible for causing disease in humans are Schistosoma Mansoni, S. japonicum, and S. haematobium, each with different geographic distributions. Praziquantel is the drug predominantly used to treat this disease, which offers low effectiveness against immature and juvenile parasite forms. In addition, reports of drug resistance prompt the development of novel therapeutic approaches. Natural products represent an important source of new compounds, especially those obtained from plant sources. This review compiles data from several in vitro and in vivo studies evaluating various compounds and essential oils derived from plants with cercaricidal and molluscicidal activities against both juvenile and adult forms of the parasite. Finally, this review provides an important discussion on recent advances in molecular and computational tools deemed fundamental for more rapid and effective screening of new compounds, allowing for the optimization of time and resources.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o discurso apresentado na Capa da Revista Veja São Paulo da Edição 2722, de 27 de janeiro de 2021. Nessa edição, a revista trouxe como tema central, os novos migrantes nordestinos. Essa capa foi divulgada em alusão ao aniversário da capital paulista, para mostrar a influência dos novos migrantes nordestinos no cotidiano paulistano. A pesquisa está inserida na linha da Análise do Discurso Francesa (ADF), fundamentada nas ideias de Pêcheux (1995) e Florêncio (2009). Dessa forma, analisamos os elementos que dizem respeito a essa corrente, no corpus escolhido, tais como: as condições de produção amplas e restritas, o interdiscurso e o intradiscurso, o dito, o não-dito, o silenciado, a formação discursiva e a formação ideológica. Os resultados demonstram que a Revista Veja São Paulo é procedente de uma formação ideológica e de uma formação discursiva elitista, de segregação, e de forte apelo xenofóbico, uma vez que os discursos demonstram a desconsideração para com a geopolítica e a cultura nordestina, sobretudo, com a camada menos favorecida economicamente.

Este estudo tem por objetivo discutir a atualidade da alfabetização de jovens e adultos, à luz da contextualização de seus conceitos, princípios e práticas. A partir de um estudo exploratório, de natureza qualitativa, tece-se a análise sobre a ausência de políticas voltadas à Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA) no âmbito federal, em diálogo com autores que tratam do tema da alfabetização, com vistas a problematizar o seu lugar na EJA, apresentando alguns de seus desafios e pressupostos. As conclusões do estudo apontam para a necessidade de maior visibilidade da EJA nas políticas públicas educacionais, bem como um esforço para que as práticas pedagógicas visem a elaboração do sistema de escrita alfabético e a maior familiaridade entre as diversas práticas sociais de uso da linguagem.

Background: Improving the early identification of HIV-1-infected newborns with birth testing is critical to comprehensive early infant diagnosis and care for newborns living with HIV-1. Automated RNA quantification systems are valuable diagnostic tools, but the volume of plasma that viral load platforms require makes their widespread use for young children difficult. Method: Seventy-nine plasma samples with different viral load ranges were evaluated in parallel with the use of 1x PBS, pH 7.4, to supplement the required volume at dilutions factors from 1:2 to 1:50. Viral load quantification assays were evaluated using ABBOTT Molecular platforms, USA. This text presents the results from a study that aimed to map the existing Licentiate Degree Courses for Rural Education in the different Brazilian states, as well as comparing such offer to the existing rural population an obtain the demand per region and thus reflect upon the importance of providing opportunities for specific teacher formation for the rural. The research is characterized as a quantitative survey, whose data were obtained through document analysis. This data survey was carried out by means of consulting the e-Mec portal during the month of May 2018 and considered the registered and functioning courses in the base year of 2017. It identified 61 Licentiate Degree Courses for Rural Education in the country, 29 of which in the classroom attendance modality and 2 in the Distance Education (DE) modality. The Northeastern region offered the highest number of courses with a total of 8. In contrast, the Midwestern region has the lowest offering, accounting for only 4 courses. The country has a rural population of over 30 million, there are states with over 1 million inhabitants in the rural zone but no teaching institutions offering Licentiate Degree Courses for Rural Education. Although there has been an increase in the offering of such courses in the country when compared to previous studies, there is still a need for public policies aimed at providing opportunities of offering such specific training in such a way as to balance out and meet the demands by Brazilian regions and states.

O estudo visa mostrar evidências capazes de relacionar o déficit na oferta dos serviços de infraestrutura em saneamento básico à dinâmica econômica e ao processo histórico de urbanização do município de Belém, Pará, Amazônia brasileira. Trata-se de uma revisão sistemática, elaborada a partir da análise da literatura geográfica e urbanística, na qual os estudos foram selecionados em publicações indexadas nas bases de dados dos periódicos CAPES, Scielo e Google Acadêmico, através de palavras-chave. Ciclos econômicos, déficit habitacional foram alguns dos fatores determinantes do processo de urbanização desordenado que resultaram na ausência e/ou deficiências dos serviços de saneamento básico.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a influência das variáveis climáticas temperatura do ar e precipitação pluviométrica sobre as ocorrências de febre chikungunya (CHIKF). Conduziu-se o estudo no período de 2016 a 2018, com área de aplicação no município de Belém (PA). Analisaram-se as variáveis com base em estatísticas descritivas, das quais foram determinados média, desvio padrão, coeficiente de variação, mediana, mínimo e máximo. As normalidades das variáveis foram definidas pelo uso de testes de correlação paramétricos ou não paramétricos. Procedeu-se à análise de regressão linear múltipla para as variáveis que apresentaram significância estatística. A sazonalidade foi confirmada com registros de CHIKF mais altos no primeiro semestre do ano, quando são registradas as maiores incidências de chuvas e as temperaturas mais amenas da região. A correlação de Pearson identificou associação entre as ocorrências de CHIKF e as variáveis de temperatura e precipitação em 2016, que apresentaram, respectivamente, associação positiva e fraca e associação negativa e fraca. Em Belém, as características climáticas locais favorecem a manutenção da CHIKF, entretanto, no estudo das arboviroses, devem ser considerados outros elementos também, como os fatores socioambientais.

Aging is an important risk factor for the development of heart failure (HF) and half of patients with HF have preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) which is more common in elderly women. In general, sex differences that lead to discrepancies in risk factors and to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) have been attributed to the reduced level of circulating estrogen during menopause. Estrogen receptors adaptively modulate fibrotic, apoptotic, inflammatory processes and calcium homeostasis, factors that are directly involved in the HFpEF. Therefore, during menopause, estrogen depletion reduces the cardioprotection. Preclinical menopause models demonstrated that several signaling pathways and organ systems are closely involved in the development of HFpEF, including dysregulation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), chronic inflammatory process and alteration in the sympathetic nervous system. Thus, this review explores thealterations observed in the condition of HFpEF induced by menopause and the therapeutic targets with potential to interfere with the disease progress.

Objetivo: construir e validar o conteúdo da cartilha “É hora de pegar a minha veia: o que eu faço?”, juntamente com juízes especialistas na área da Pediatria, para o preparo de crianças com necessidade de cateterização intravenosa periférica. Método: trata-se de um estudo metodológico do tipo validação de conteúdo, desenvolvido conforme o checklist COSMIM, realizado no período de fevereiro de 2015 a fevereiro de 2017, em quatro etapas: diagnóstico situacional, levantamento bibliográfico, seleção e sumarização do conteúdo, elaboração da cartilha e sua validação. Participaram do estudo 11 juízas especialistas na área de Pediatria. Para o processo de validação utilizou-se a técnica Delphi. Consideraram-se como índice de validação de conteúdo desejável os valores iguais ou superiores a 0,80. Resultados: a cartilha obteve índices satisfatórios nas categorias conteúdo, linguagem, ilustração, layout, motivação, cultura e aplicabilidade, sendo validada na segunda rodada com índice de validação de conteúdo global de 0,93. Conclusão: o objetivo do estudo foi alcançado, sendo a cartilha construída e validada pelos juízes especialistas, portanto, pode ser um recurso tecnológico de promoção do cuidado para crianças com necessidade de cateterização intravenosa periférica, configurando-se em uma medida de segurança do paciente.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling is strongly implicated in cardiovascular remodeling in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and right ventricle (RV) failure. The effects of a newly designed p38 inhibitor, LASSBio-1824, were investigated in experimentally induced PH. Male Wistar rats were exposed to hypoxia and SU5416 (SuHx), and normoxic rats were used as controls. Oral treatment was performed for 14 days with either vehicle or LASSBio-1824 (50 mg/kg). Pulmonary vascular resistance and RV structure and function were assessed by echocardiography and catheterization. Histological, immunohistochemical and Western blot analysis of lung and RV were performed to investigate cardiovascular remodeling and inflammation. Treatment with LASSBio-1824 normalized vascular resistance by attenuating vessel muscularization and endothelial dysfunction. In the heart, treatment decreased RV systolic pressure, hypertrophy and collagen content, improving cardiac function. Protein content of TNF-α, iNOS, phosphorylated p38 and caspase-3 were reduced both in lung vessels and RV tissues after treatment and a reduced activation of transcription factor c-fos was found in cardiomyocytes of treated SuHx rats. Therefore, LASSBio-1824 represents a potential candidate for remodeling-targeted treatment of PH.
