The substandard, low quality or predatory journals are the real threat to the publishing industry. It is a challenge to the quality and ethics of publication. The problem grabs the attention of scholarly community when the publisher of an open access journal Gunther Eysenbach, identified a black sheep among open access publishers and journals, since then many experiments were conducted to identify the black sheep and guidelines were issued to avoid them. However, the most substantial work in the field of predatory publishing was performed by Jeffery Beall who came up with a blacklist of predatory OA publishers and journal. For several years since the publishing of the Beall’s list, there has been increasing concerns about the criteria that Beall used to develop his lists, with some scholars dismissing his lists as inaccurate, misleading and dangerous to academics. The paper is a discourse on the 56 characteristics list by Beall as guidelines for Determining Predatory Open-Access Publishers and journals with a focusing on the factors which can be considered as Irrational Factors for labeling a journal as predatory. The irrational factor included in his criteria could be a strong reason for dismissal of the list and the criteria by the experts worldwide.

Retraction is used as an optimum tool to uphold and safe-guide the integrity of scholarly literature. However, knowingly or unknowingly the authors build the work on these false claims by citing the retracted articles. Such dependencies on retracted articles may become implicit and indirect causing profound and long-lasting threat to the credibility of the literature. Consequently, it is important to detect and analyze such threats. The article aims to demonstrate dependency of citing articles on retracted article with reference to the rest of the literature. A case study of highly cited (as reported by retraction watch) retracted article ”Spontaneous human adult stem cell transformation” published in Cancer Research in 2005 by Rubio, D as lead author is visualized in terms of bibliographic coupling of citing journals and network and density visualizations of co-citations of authors. The study concludes that there is high-order citation dependency of scientific literature on retracted article.

Significant and serious scientific misconduct in a research article leads to its retraction. Citing such articles further perpetuates the erroneous work. An article unknowingly builds on false claims of a retracted article, the new and unsuspicious article may compromise the integrity of the scientific literature. This type of implicit dependency on a retracted article can be highly risky and harmful. Thus the focus of the study is to identify the journals citing the retracted articles with emphasis on the examination of context of citations received by top seven highly cited retracted papers identified and listed by Retraction watch. In-depth analysis of the context of the top seven highly cited retracted articles was conducted. The retracted articles are cited and used by the authors in the positive context as the study found that 41.4% citations were affirmative. However it is worth to notice that the selected articles were also negatively cited in the literature 21.6%. Thus citing authors, who cite the retracted articles in the negative context, are putting forth the argument against retracted article. Thus the retraction watches needs to revisit the list while deeming and ranking the retracted articles as highly cited. The retraction watch blog should incorporate the context in which the retracted articles were cited by the authors. The study further found that the peer-reviewed and high impact factors journals are citing the retracted literature which highlights the implicit dependency on the retracted articles that can erode the scholarly landscape. A systematic screening method is required to prevent the citation of fraudulent or retracted papers by the journals.

The paper analyses the growth pattern of cloud computing literature during 2009-2013 using web of science database. The cumulative publication output of top ten countries and India in the field accounts to 1879 publications. Total number of citations & high quality papers were also calculated. The growth in the publication is studied through Relative Growth Rate and doubling time. The authorship pattern is measured by different collaboration parameters like collaborative index and modified collaborative coefficient.

The study aims to analyze subject, chronology and country wise collection strength. The study shows that the maximum collection of the rare books is on travelogue 32.48% followed by Shaivism 18.7%. While as the collection on other subjects lies in the range of 2.54%-5.53% with least of 2.54% on Grammar. Literature of 20th century is preserved by maximum of libraries (53.89%) followed by 19th century (44.93%), 18th century (1.08%) and 17th century (0.09%) and none of the library except Cambridge University library possesses a publication of 17th century. The treasure of rare books lies maximum in United States of America (56.7%) followed by Great Britain (35%), Canada(6%), Australia (1.8%) with least in Thailand (0.45%)., A Caxemira tem sido um tema fa scinante para autores e analistas.
