Abstract Multiple myeloma (MM) therapeutics have evolved tremendously in recent years, with significant improvement in patient outcomes. As newer treatment options are developed, stem cell transplant (SCT) remains an important modality that provides excellent disease control and delays the progression of disease. Over the years, SCT use has increased overall in the U.S., but two distinct gaps remain, including suboptimal use overall and racial-ethnic disparities. We evaluated the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to study what sociodemographic factors might play a role within a given racial-ethnic group leading to disparate SCT utilization, such that targeted approaches can be developed to optimize SCT use for all. In nearly 112,000 cases belonging to mutually exclusive categories of non-Hispanic Whites (NHW), non-Hispanic Blacks (NHB), Hispanics, non-Hispanic Asians (NHA), and others, we found certain factors including age, comorbidity index, payor type, facility type (academic vs. community) and facility volume to be uniformly associated with SCT use for all the racial-ethnic groups, while gender was not significant for any of the groups. There were several other factors that had a differential impact on SCT utilization among the various race-ethnicity groups studied, including year of diagnosis (significant for NHW, NHB, and Hispanics), income level (significant for NHW and Hispanics), literacy level (significant for NHW and NHB), and geographic location of the treatment facility (significant for NHW and NHA). The suboptimal SCT utilization overall in the U.S. suggests that there may be room for improvement for all, even including the majority NHW, while we continue to work on factors that lead to disparities for the traditionally underserved populations. This study helps identify sociodemographic factors that may play a role specifically in each group and paves the way to devise targeted solutions such that resource utilization and impact can be maximized.

Abstract Patients with relapsed follicular lymphoma who do not respond to CAR‐T have a poor outcome. We present a case of refractory follicular lymphoma who relapsed after two CAR‐T infusions and achieved a complete remission after treatment with obinutuzumab and lenalidomide. This represents a promising treatment option in the post‐CAR‐T setting.

Causes are identified at every level from the equipment up to corporate management. The analysis provides new insights into how the incident was caused and how it could have been prevented, which were not highlighted in official reports. These insights are widely applicable to all organisations managing major accident hazards.

International transfer pricing is pervasive in that it can apply to all manner of goods, services, finance and intangible assets which flow between members of a group located in different parts of the world. Fiscal authorities in many countries are modernising their legislation to ensure they collect a fair amount of corporate tax revenue from companies operating within their jurisdiction. However, draconian tax rules may adversely affect world trade and reduce foreign direct investment. Jamie Elliott and Clive Emmanuel report on an exploratory fieldwork study of 12 multinational enterprises based in the UK which attempts to place current practices of international transfer pricing in the organisational and fiscal context. One emerging pattern appears to associate industry sector affiliation with preferred transfer pricing method.

In particular, the chapter considers the approaches adopted by selected tax authorities when addressing ITP and summarises the prescribed transfer pricing methods for determining whether multinational enterprises are adhering to the “arm’s length principle

This study analyses a sample of confidential invoice discounting clients using one particular branch of machine learning - an inductive algorithm as used in case-based reasoning (CBR). The sample used consists of data collected from 98 business clients of a leading UK factoring and invoice discounting company. The data collected was supplemented by financial accounting information2. Factoring and invoice discounting is an additional form of finance to the company’s overdraft facility. This study examines the profile of business clients (or cases) which bank with the invoice discounting company affiliated bank versus those business clients (or cases) which bank with competing banks. A few attempts have been made by this leading UK factoring and invoice discounting company to differentiate between case profiles. For the first time, this study provides an empirical framework for examining invoice discounting data. It also suggests the potential for a case-based approach based on induction which specifically handles multidimensional case information. The findings raise interesting questions for this factoring and invoice discounting company specific to its clients.
