Today the energy storage systems are still encumbering, therefore it is useful to think about the optimization of a railgun system in order to achieve the best performance with the lowest energy input. The important parameters in lowering electrical input energy are: the ratio of the projectile mass and the payload mass which has to be near unity, the inductance gradient L' of the rails which has to be high, the resistive losses in the rails and in the pulse forming network which have to be minimal. In this paper we present an overview of what can be done to enhance the efficiency of a rail launcher fed by capacitor banks adjusting the rails design, the launcher caliber and length in view to accelerate payloads of several kilograms up to velocities of a few km/s with the minimum of charged electrical energy.

We present a few results from operational research considerations in order to highlight the advantage of higher muzzle velocities which can be obtained by electrically driven guns. Moreover we will give a brief description of the joint French-German research program on Electromagnetic Launch Technology.

This paper describes the formation and diversity of new compounds resulting from the polymerisation of furanic and phenolic flavanol-aldehydes with HPLC-DAD and LC-ES/MS analysis. Polymerisation, resulting from nucleophilic reactions, formed dimers, trimers, soluble and insoluble polymers. Reactions in hydroalcoholic solution with pure aldehydes (phenolic and furanic) and flavanols (catechin) were studied. The study was repeated with different aldehydes in white wine. This research focused particularly on the colour properties of the released products and their potential impact on the colour of white wine. Some products were purified and isolated; these were mainly catechinfurfuraldehyde, catechin-methyl-5-furfuraldehyde, catechin-hydroxymethyl- furfuraldehyde, catechin-vanillin, and catechin-syringaldehyde dimers. The most powerful coloured products resulted from furanic aldehydes. Over the course of the experiment, the reaction produced dimers, trimers and oligomers. After 50 to 60 days, the colour of the solution was mainly due to soluble polymeric forms. In addition, the role of SO2, generally used during vinification and ageing, was studied. Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder show deficits in communication and social interaction, as well as repetitive behaviors and restricted interests. Interacting with robots could bring benefits to this population, notably by fostering communication and social interaction. Studies even suggest that people with Autism Spectrum Disorder could interact more easily with a robot partner rather than a human partner. We will be looking at the benefits of robots and the reasons put forward to explain these results. The interest regarding robots would mainly be due to three of their characteristics: they can act as motivational tools, and they are simplified agents whose behavior is more predictable than that of a human. Nevertheless, there are still many challenges to be met in specifying the optimum conditions for using robots with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

In this paper, Knetsch's exchange paradigm is analyzed from the perspective of pragmatics and social norms. In this paradigm the participant, at the beginning of the experiment, receives an object from the experimenter and at the end, the same experimenter offers to exchange the received object for an equivalent object. The observed refusal to exchange is called the endowment effect. We argue that this effect comes from an implicature made by the participant about the experimenter's own expectations. The participant perceives the received item as a gift, or as a present, from the experimenter that cannot be exchanged as stipulated by the social norms of western politeness common to both the experimenter and the participant. This implicature, however, should not be produced by participants from Kanak culture for whom the perceived gift of a good will be interpreted as a first act of exchange based on gift and counter-gift. This exchange is a natural, frequent, balanced, and indispensable act for all Kanak social bonds whether private or public. Kanak people also know the French social norms that they apply in their interactions with French people living in New Caledonia. In our experiment, we show that when the exchange paradigm takes place in a French context, with a French experimenter and in French, the Kanak participant is subject to the endowment effect in the same way as a French participant. On the other hand, when the paradigm is carried out in a Kanak context, with a Kanak experimenter and in the vernacular language, or in a Kanak context that approaches the ceremonial of the custom, the endowment effect is no longer observed. The same number of Kanak participants accept or refuse to exchange the endowed item. Quantum computing opens new avenues for modeling correlated materials, which are notoriously challenging to solve due to the presence of large electronic correlations. Quantum embedding approaches, such as dynamical mean-field theory, provide corrections to first-principles calculations for strongly correlated materials, which are poorly described at lower levels of theory. Such embedding approaches are computationally demanding on classical computing architectures and hence remain restricted to small systems, limiting the scope of their applicability. Hitherto, implementations on quantum computers have been limited by hardware constraints. Here, we derive a compact representation, where the number of quantum states is reduced for a given system while retaining a high level of accuracy. We benchmark our method for archetypal quantum states of matter that emerge due to electronic correlations, such as Kondo and Mott physics, both at equilibrium and for quenched systems. The poor performances of typically developing children younger than 4 in the first-order false-belief task "Maxi and the chocolate" is analyzed from the perspective of conversational pragmatics. An ambiguous question asked by an adult experimenter (perceived as a teacher) can receive different interpretations based on a search for relevance, by which children according to their age attribute different intentions to the questioner, within the limits of their own meta-cognitive knowledge. The adult experimenter tells the child the following story of object-transfer: "Maxi puts his chocolate into the green cupboard before going out to play. In his absence, his mother moves the chocolate from the green cupboard to the blue one." The child must then predict where Maxi will pick up the chocolate when he returns. To the child, the question from an adult (a knowledgeable person) may seem surprising and can be understood as a question of his own knowledge of the world, rather than on Maxi's mental representations. In our study, without any modification of the initial task, we disambiguate the context of the question by (1) replacing the adult experimenter with a humanoid robot presented as "ignorant" and "slow" but trying to learn and (2) placing the child in the role of a "mentor" (the knowledgeable person). Sixty-two typical children of 3 years-old completed the first-order false belief task "Maxi and the chocolate," either with a human or with a robot. Results revealed a significantly higher success rate in the robot condition than in the human condition. Recent observations of selective emergence (suppression) of superconductivity in the uncollapsed (collapsed) tetragonal phase of LaFe_{2}As_{2} has rekindled interest in understanding what features of the band structure control the superconducting T_{c}. We show that the proximity of the narrow Fe-d_{xy} state to the Fermi energy emerges as the primary factor. In the uncollapsed phase this state is at the Fermi energy, and is most strongly correlated and a source of enhanced scattering in both single and two particle channels. The resulting intense and broad low energy spin fluctuations suppress magnetic ordering and simultaneously provide glue for Cooper pair formation. In the collapsed tetragonal phase, the d_{xy} state is driven far below the Fermi energy, which suppresses the low-energy scattering and blocks superconductivity. A similar source of broad spin excitation appears in uncollapsed and collapsed phases of CaFe_{2}As_{2}. This suggests controlling coherence provides a way to engineer T_{c} in unconventional superconductors primarily mediated through spin fluctuations.

Measuring the cognitive cost of interpreting the meaning of sentences in a conversation is a complex task, but it is also at the core of Sperber and Wilson's Relevance Theory. In cognitive sciences, the delay between a stimulus and its response is often used as an approximation of the cognitive cost. We have noticed that such a tool had not yet been used to measure the cognitive cost of interpreting the meaning of sentences in a free-flowing and interactive conversation. The following experiment tests the ability to discriminate between sentences with a high cognitive cost and sentences with a low cognitive cost using the response time of the participants during an online conversation in a protocol inspired by the Turing Test. We have used violations of Grice's Cooperative Principle to create conditions in which sentences with a high cognitive cost would be produced. We hypothesized that response times are directly correlated to the cognitive cost required to generate implicatures from a statement. Our results are coherent with the literature in the field and shed some new light on the effect of violations on the humanness of a conversational agent. We show that violations of the maxim of Relation had a particularly important impact on response times and the perceived humanness of a conversation partner. Violations of the first maxim of Quantity and the fourth maxim of Manner had a lesser impact, and only on male participants.

APOBEC3 are cytidine deaminases that convert cytidine to uridine residues. APOBEC3A and APOBEC3B enzymes able to target genomic DNA are involved in oncogenesis of a sizeable proportion of human cancers. While the APOBEC3 locus is conserved in mammals, it encodes from 1-7 genes. APOBEC3A is conserved in most mammals, although absent in pigs, cats and throughout Rodentia whereas APOBEC3B is restricted to the Primate order. Here we show that the rabbit APOBEC3 locus encodes two genes of which APOBEC3A enzyme is strictly orthologous to human APOBEC3A. The rabbit enzyme is expressed in the nucleus and the cytoplasm, it can deaminate cytidine, 5-methcytidine residues, nuclear DNA and induce double-strand DNA breaks. The rabbit APOBEC3A enzyme is negatively regulated by the rabbit TRIB3 pseudokinase protein which is guardian of genome integrity, just like its human counterpart. This indicates that the APOBEC3A/TRIB3 pair is conserved over approximately 100 million years. The rabbit APOBEC3A gene is widely expressed in rabbit tissues, unlike human APOBEC3A . These data demonstrate that rabbit could be used as a small animal model for studying APOBEC3 driven oncogenesis., Competing Interests: CONFLICTS OF INTEREST No conflicts of interest

Objective: To determine the interest of defecography for the initial evaluation of genital prolapses., Patients and Methods: A retrospective study of 125 patients who had undergone systematically a defecography for the initial evaluation of a genital prolapse., Results: 10% of defecogaphies were normal. On clinical examination a rectocele was found in 94% of patients and an enterocele in 33%. At defecography, these abnormalities were seen only in 39% and 15% respectively. 39% of patients with radiological rectocele had an intussusception at defecography., Conclusion: Defecography is appropriate to diagnose and to assess constitutional abnormalities associated with genital prolapse (rectocele, enterocele) and other anomalies which interact with it (intussusception, sphincter and pubo-rectal dyskinesia). Most of women with genital prolapse showed abnormal defecograms. We observed a marked discordance between clinical and radiological evaluation, specially for rectocele. Defecography is of great interest in the evaluation of posterior genital prolapses, specially in women complaining of dyschesia. Defecography may be proposed in case of: posterior vaginal wall prolapse (rectocele, enterocele), dyschesia, post-operative prolapse and before a cervicopexy.

Regarding a original observation of the Deimons-Meigs syndrome, the authors have derived, from a review of the literature, the main clinicals and etiopathogenics characteristics, and tried to discuss the terms and conditions of a therapeutic treatment appropriate to such a situation.

We observed a plurifocal cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung, Stocker class II, in a 21-week gestation fetus in association with polycystosis of a solitary medial kidney. There was no other notable abnormally. The caryotype could not be obtained. The association of these two congenital malformations is exceptional, only three similar cases have been reported in the literature. Two other cases of pulmonary adenomatoid malformations associated with nephromegaly with renal hyperlobulation have also been described. Whether this is a fortuitous association or not remains to be determined.
