Background/Objectives: In healthcare environments with high microbial loads, effective infection control measures are critical for reducing airborne and surface contamination. One of the novel modalities in the achievement of these goals is the use of antimicrobial mists, such as droplets, in the form of dry fog. Although the usage of dry fog in the disinfection of contained healthcare microenvironments is well known, the effect of such a system in terms of a meaningful reduction in the microbial burden in an open inpatient ward is unclear. Our objective was to assess the impact of scheduled dry fogging on microbial reduction in such settings. Methods: We collected air and surface samples from rooms receiving daily, biweekly, or no fogging (controls) over six months, establishing the baseline contamination and evaluating the reduction trends in treated rooms. The "reduction effect" was measured by tracking microbial isolation trends before and after treatment, while the "degree of reduction" assessed differences across rooms with varied disinfection schedules. Results: The results indicate that scheduled dry fogging significantly reduced microbial loads in treated rooms, especially with daily disinfection (SE = 64.484, p = 0.002). The airborne contamination in treated rooms showed a strong downward trend over time (SE = 19.192, p < 0.001). Surface contamination remained challenging due to frequent recontamination; however, treated rooms exhibited a consistent reduction in microbial presence (SE = 2.002, p = 0.010), confirming dry fogging's role as a valuable adjunct to routine cleaning. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study highlights that dry fogging effectively reduces microbial loads in open, high-traffic healthcare environments, supporting its use as part of a multimodal infection control strategy. Background/Objectives: Over the past few decades, extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria have become a great concern in healthcare systems worldwide, imposing large burdens by increasing antimicrobial resistance and patient morbidity. Given the high mortality rates and emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, monitoring ESBL prevalence and resistance patterns is crucial. This study aimed to evaluate ESBL-producing Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae over three years, focusing on phenotypic distribution and resistance profiles. Methods: A total of 1599 ESBL-producing bacterial samples were collected and analysed. A panel of 20 antibiotics was tested to determine resistance traits. Data were recorded on phenotypical distribution, isolation types, changes in antibiotic resistance, and the relation of such changes to antibiotic consumption (defined daily dose) from clinical isolates. Results: Phenotypical analysis revealed the minimal presence of the Cefotaximase from Munich (CTX-M) phenotype in E. coli and K. pneumoniae, creating a distinct epidemiological profile compared to global patterns. Shifts in isolation trends, particularly in P. mirabilis, suggest an expected increase in associated-mortality-rate in the coming years. While resistance trends were not statistically significant, MDR and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains were identified across all three bacteria. Only meropenem showed consistent 100% efficacy against E. coli, with other antibiotics displaying only partial effectiveness. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for ongoing surveillance of ESBL-producing bacteria and underscore challenges in managing antibiotic resistance due to limited efficacy of last-resort treatments. Postoperative cardiovascular complications (either in a hospital or within 30 days after the operation) are among the most common problems with non-cardiac surgeries (NCSs). Pre-existing cardiac comorbidities add significant risk to the development of such complications. Valvular heart disease (VHD), a rather frequent cardiac comorbidity (especially in the elderly population), can pose serious life-threatening peri-/postoperative complications. Being familiar with the recommended perioperative management of patients with VHD or an implanted prosthetic heart valve who are scheduled for NCS is of great importance in daily clinical practice. Although recently published guidelines by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) for the management of VHD and perioperative management of patients undergoing NCS addresses the mentioned problem, a comprehensive review of the guidelines that provides an easy-to-use summary of the recommendations and their similarities and differences is missing in the published literature. In this review article, we summarize all of the relevant important information based on the latest data published in both guidelines needed for practical decision-making in the perioperative management of patients with VHD or after valvular repair (with prosthetic heart valve) who are scheduled for NCS. Background: Enterococcus species account for most of the human enterococcal HAI and multidrug-resistant infections and have become a major threat to modern public health. We examine the rise in the number of vancomycin resistant E. faecium blood stream and urinary tract infections in a COVID-19 department during an epidemiologic outbreak investigation to detect and eliminate nosocomial clusters of the bacteria., Methods:  Strain identification was performed by classical isolation and biochemical and cultivation methods. Antibiotic testing results were interpreted according to European committee on antimicrobial susceptibility testing (EUCAST) guidelines. Six isolated samples underwent the whole genome sequencing (WGS) during the outbreak investigation. Isolate relatedness was determined using the core genome multi-locus sequence typing., Results:  WGS revealed two genotypically distinct VRE clusters, one of which had genetically closely related patients and environmental isolates. The cluster was terminated by enhanced infection control strategies., Conclusions:  This study provides the first description of an outbreak caused by vanB-ST117 and vanA-ST17 E. faecium strains among COVID-19 patients in Slovakia. This study can help to raise the awareness about the need for strict adherence to infection control measures and the implementation of rational antimicrobial stewardship as a routine part of COVID-19 management (Tab. 3, Fig. 3, Ref. 27).
