IntroductionPediculosis is one of the vector-borne diseases that has spread in most regions of the world and has affected many populations. In previous decades, organochlorine poisons were used to treat it. But resistance to treatment against this group of insecticides affected its control. Based on this, the present study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of Knockdown Resistance in human head lice against organochlorine insecticides in the world in the form of a systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsTo determine the prevalence of Knockdown Resistance against organochlorine insecticides, all English and non-English articles (at least with English titles and abstracts) were published worldwide without a time limit until the end of May 2022 and were extracted and analyzed. Statistical analysis of the data was done using statistical tests of fixed and random effects model in the meta-analysis, Cochrane, meta-regression, and I2 index.Results8 articles with a sample size of 7249 head lice were included in the meta-analysis process. The prevalence of knockdown resistance was estimated at 65.3%. Also, the prevalence of homozygote resistance was 71.9% and heterozygote resistance was 28.1%.ConclusionBased on the findings, more than half of the lice were resistant to organochlorine insecticides. As a result, due to the high prevalence of resistance, it is recommended to determine the resistance against them before using this group of insecticides to treat pediculosis and then adopting the appropriate treatment.

Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis is one of the diseases caused by the Leishmania parasite, which is considered a health problem in Iran. Jahrom, a county in Fars province located in the south of Iran, is one of the endemic foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Objectives: The present study investigated the epidemiology of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Jahrom between 2015 and 2019. Methods: A descriptive-analytical study was performed to evaluate the epidemiology of cutaneous leishmaniasis in patients referred to the Jahrom Health Center between 2015 and 2019. Results: A total of 584 cases were identified, of which (347) 59.4% were males and (237) 40.6% were females. The acute cases were observed in all age groups, and the highest proportion was seen at less than 10 years of age. The numbers of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis from 2015 to 2019 were 180, 88, 117, 108, and 91, respectively. Cutaneous leishmaniasis was more common in autumn and winter. The proportion was higher in males and urban inhabitants. There was a statistically significant difference between the genders and places of residence (P < 0.05). Also, the highest proportion of lesions was on the hands (48.8%). Conclusions: Based on the findings in Jahrom city, the proportion of the disease was higher in younger age groups, males, urban inhabitants, and autumn. The most common lesions were on the hands, feet, and face.

The gas turbine aero-engine control systems over the past eight decades have been thoroughly investigated. This review purposes are to present a comprehensive reference for aero-engine control design and development based on a systematic scientometric analysis and to categorize different methods, algorithms, and approaches taken into account to improve the performance and operability of aircraft engines from the first days to present to enable this challenging technology to be adopted by aero-engine manufacturers. Initially, the benefits of the control systems are restated in terms of improved engine efficiency, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and improved fuel economy. This is followed by a historical coverage of the proposed concepts dating back to 1936. A comprehensive scientometric analysis is then presented to introduce the main milestones in aero-engines control. Possible control strategies and concepts are classified into four distinct phases, including Single input- single output control algorithms, MIN-MAX or Cascade control algorithms, advanced control algorithms, More-electric and electronic control algorithms and critically reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of milestones are discussed to cover all practical aspects of the review to enable the researchers to identify the current challenges in aircraft engine control systems.

The Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) Flight Path 2050 focuses on ambitious and severe targets for the next generation of air travel systems (e.g., 75% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer, a 90% reduction in NOx emissions, and 65% reduction in noise emission of flying aircraft relative to the capabilities of typical new aircraft in 2000). In order to meet these requirements, aircraft engines should work very close to their operating limits. Therefore, the importance of advanced control strategies to satisfy all engine control modes simultaneously while protecting them from malfunctions and physical damages is being more crucial these days. In the last three decades, fuzzy controllers (FCs) have been proposed as a high potential solution for performance improvement of the next generation of aircraft engines. Based on an analytic review, this paper divides the trend of FCs design into two main lines including pure FCs (PFC) and min–max FCs (MMFC). These two main architectures are then designed, implemented on hardware, and applied in a case study to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each structure. The analysis of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation results shows that the pure FC structure would be a high potential candidate for maneuverability and response time indices improvement (e.g., military applications), while min–max FC architecture has a great potential for future civil aero-engines where the fuel consumption and steady-state responses are more important. The simulation results are also compared with those of industrial min–max controllers to confirm the feasibility and reliability of the fuzzy controllers for real-world application. The results of this paper propose a general roadmap for fuzzy controllers’ structure selection for new and next generation of aircraft engines.

High-speed oblique water entry is an interesting subject, many physical aspects of which remain unknown up to now. Among high-speed air-to-water projectiles, the supercavitating cylindrical-cone (SCC) ones have economic and operational advantages over the other types. However, maintaining stability of the SCC projectiles inside the cavity at shallow entry angles is a challenging issue from both practical and design-related points. The first section of the present study proposes a novel and unique scheme of air-to-water supercavitating projectile design which is called the supercavitating stepped cylindrical-cone (SSCC) projectile. The SSCC scheme is analyzed numerically to investigate the projectile stability improvement at shallow entry angles. The 6DOF dynamics of the SSCC projectile are investigated using the Star-CCM+ commercial code in the presence of three phases of air, water and vapor in a three-dimensional and transient model. Accuracy of numerical results and the model’s ability to simulate the physical phenomena of water entry is validated using experimental results from the literature, and both are in good agreement. In the present study, the high-speed oblique water entry dynamics of the SSCC projectile are investigated for five certain entry angles varying from 10° to 60°. The results show that the SSCC projectile faces intensive unstabilizing forces in the water entry process which leads to a heavy pitching moment and, hence, intensive angular velocity ( $$ \dot{\gamma } $$ ) on the projectile. This study also proves that the presence of step enhances the projectile stability in the entry process. The present study shows that, based on their geometry and mass characteristics, each SSCC projectile is capable of withstanding instability up to a critical value of the angular velocity ( $$ \dot{\gamma }_{\text{Cr}} $$ ). Therefore, projectile stability inside the cavity can be achieved when the value of maximum angular velocity ( $$ \left| {\dot{\gamma }} \right|_{\hbox{max} } $$ ) experienced by the projectile is lower that $$ \dot{\gamma }_{\text{Cr}} $$ (i.e., $$ \left| {\dot{\gamma }} \right|_{\hbox{max} } < \dot{\gamma }_{\text{Cr}} $$ ). The results of this study also show that $$ \left| {\dot{\gamma }} \right|_{\hbox{max} } $$ is inversely correlated with the $$ \gamma $$ , and that it follows a simple equation which is proposed in this study. Therefore, projectile stability inside the cavity can also be practically achieved by adjusting the shooting mechanism at an angle higher than the minimum stable entry angle ( $$ \gamma_{\hbox{min} } $$ ). This study also proposes an effective numerical approach to evaluate $$ \gamma_{\hbox{min} } $$ of a supercavitating projectile. It should be noted that determining the value of $$ \gamma_{\hbox{min} } $$ is an important factor from both a practical and design-related points of view.

Background: West Nile Virus, a mosquito-borne flavivirus, causes a variety of symptoms in human, from asymptomatic infection to neuroinvasive disease. Several studies have been conducted on the seroprevalence of WNV infection in different areas from Iran. This study was performed to find the presence of antiviral antibodies in human serum among some high risk population and awareness of health care staff about symptom of the WNV infection. Methods: Study performed in five geographical districts based on high population of immigrant and domestic birds and prevalence of the antiviral antibodies in horses which was reported previously. Totally 150 human blood samples were collected during 2018. The samples collected from patients referred to the clinics. The ELISA method used to detect IgG and IgM antibody against WNV. Logistic regression models used to analyze the effect of sex, age, keeping birds and urban/rural residence on the risk of infection. The awareness of health care staff about symptom of infection surveyed. Results: From all blood donors, 41 samples (27.33%) showed positive to IgG antibody. From which 56.10% were males and remaining females. None of the mentioned factors had a significant relationship. Health care staff had less attention to the infection. Conclusions: Although the prevalence of antibodies was relatively high, due to the similarity to other viral diseases, health care staff had less attention to the disease. The study showed that people in these areas have been exposed to the virus. Further research activities are recommended for control of this arbovirus.

Purpose: This study was aimed to evaluate the site-specific drug delivery of 5-FU with chitosan (CS) as a carrier and quercetin (Qu) against induced colon cancer in Wistar rats. Methods: Cross-linked CS-Qu nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by ionotropic gelation method. Physicochemical characterization of NPs was performed by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), in vitro drug release, and drug loading efficiency (LE). 1, 2-Dimethylhydrazine (DMH) and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) were applied to induce adenocarcinoma tumors on inbred male Wistar rats’ colon. The treatment group of rats was administered through enema with NPs dispersion. Hematoxylin and eosin staining were performed to the histopathological examination of tumors. Results: Zeta potential and particle size for NPs were +53.5 ± 5 mV and 179 ± 28 nm, respectively. About 96% Qu LE was obtained with a maximum release of 5.63 ±1.59% and 4.62 ± 1.33% after 24 hours in PB solution with pH values of 6 and 7.4, respectively. The numbers of 8 to 21 tumors were observed in all rats administered with DMH and DSS. Significantly decreasing of microvascular density and mitosis count was detected in the treatment group in comparison with cancerous group (P = 0.032 for the former compared to P = 0.016 for the later), respectively. Furthermore, the treatment group showed a high apoptosis rate (P = 0.038). Conclusion: The developed Qu-loaded CS NPs were good candidates for site-specific and sustained drug release in enema treatment. Decreasing of microvascular density and mitosis count, along with increasing the apoptosis percent in the treatment group proved that the NPs could have promising results in site-specific and sustained drug delivery against colorectal cancer.

Background: Leishmaniasis contains a group of zoonotic diseases that is caused by infected phlebotomine sandflies with flagellate protozoa of the genus Leishmania. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine some epidemiological aspects of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis referring to Marvdasht health center, Fars Province, Iran. Methods: Demographic and clinical data of all patients recorded in Marvdasht Health Center, the Infectious Diseases Unit from 2010 to 2016. Results: 7418 confirmed cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis referred to health centers for receiving treatment. The mean age of the patients was 32.9 ± 26.9 year and the incidence of disease in men was higher than women. The age group was 21 to 30 years old (22.9%) had the most cases. The average duration of exposure to detection of the disease was 4.9 ± 1.38 months. The prevalence of wet lesions was significantly higher than dry lesions, and the average size of the lesions was 4.27 cm. The average number of lesions was 1.58 per person, and most of them were in hands (39.6%) and feet (21.4%). The incidence of disease was higher in the autumn than other seasons and it occurred more in rural areas. Conclusions: Marvdasht city is an endemic area of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Iran. Our results showed that the number of cases reported has fluctuated in recent years. Therefore, it is very important for the health system to implement an accurate and effective continuous monitoring strategy for this important vector-borne disease in this part of the country.

The purpose of this paper is manufacturing Nanoencapsulated PCM (NPCM) products for use in gypsum wallapplications as thermal energy storage material, with the aim of expanding in use from butyl palmitate in polystyrene-co-methyl methacrylate shells which shows good energy storage capacity. This type of Nanoencapsules synthesis had not been previously described in literature, nor patented. PCM (butyl palmitate) can be encapsulated successfully by these processes and in the form of core–shell structure with use of different stirring rates and hybridized suspension agents. SEM nanographs of Nanoencapsulated NPCMs show that spherical Nanocapsules were obtained with a narrow Particle Size Distribution (PSD) 0–150 nm, which are proper for use in combination of gypsum. Our tests and synthesis results on the basis of thermal storage study of Nano-encapsulated butyl palmitate by suspension like polymerization process show high encapsulation efficiency with proper thermal energy storage capacity in gypsum walls.

In this work, physical adsorption was used for immobilization of proline dehydrogenase onto a magnetic mesoporous silica nanomaterial. The immobilization and electrocatalytical activity of proline dehydrogenase entrapped in a magnetic mesoporous silica nanomaterial was studied using cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, and square wave voltammetry. The magnetic mesoporous silica networks having a high surface area (362 m2 g−1) exhibited excellent properties for entrapment of proline dehydrogenase. The applied approach led to better resistance to temperature and pH inactivation in comparison to the free enzyme. The electrocatalytic current response of proline dehydrogenase entrapped in a magnetic mesoporous silica nanomaterial toward oxidation of L-proline was maintained in the analytical solution temperature up to 70 °C. The entrapped proline dehydrogenase was casted onto a polycysteine-modified glassy carbon electrode. The electrode was evaluated as an electrochemical biosensor for electrooxidation and determination of L-proline in phosphate buffer solution. A cyclic voltammetry study indicated that the oxidation process of proline is irreversible and is diffusion controlled. The electrochemical behavior was further exploited as a sensitive detection scheme for L-proline determination by differential-pulse voltammetry. Under optimized conditions, the concentration range and detection limit were 0.01–0.15 μM and 0.006 μM, respectively. The method was applied to the assay of L-proline in whole blood and normal and malignant cell line lysates (normal cell (L929); gastric cancer cell-CAT 3, colon cancer cell-HCT, colon cancer cell-SW, and breast cancer cell-MCF7).

Blood sucking insects, such as fleas, are responsible for the transmission of many infectious disease-causing agents which impose an intolerable burden on the health of people living particularly in endemic parts of the world. Fleas (Insecta: Siphonaptera) are found in many parts of the world including Iran. Both adult male and female fleas are obligatory ectoparasites. They are one of the main public health concerns as a result of their nuisance or the potential to act as vectors of a number of medically-important pathogens. The current study was conducted to examine the geographical distribution and fauna of fleas and their anthropophagic index in part of Fars province, southern Iran. This study was the first to be done in Iran. A total of 20 villages were randomly selected. From October 2011 to May 2012, adult fleas were collected by direct hand catch from human to animal shelters. Overall 848 fleas, most of which were blood-fed, were captured from the floor or the body of farm animal hosts (cattle, sheep, goat and hens). Only two different genera of fleas were identified, the main species (99.76 %) was human flea, Pulex irritans. The village of Shamsabad was the most heavily infested area. P. irritans had an anthropophagic index of 15 % using indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). It could be concluded that P. irritans is widely distributed in this area. Based on their blood feeding activity, fleas thus posed a serious health threat to residents and their economically important livestock in this part of Iran.

By using spectrophotometric and potentiometric techniques the formation constants of the species formed in the systems H++Mo(VI)+nitrilotriacetic acid and H++nitrilotriacetic acid have been determined in aqueous solutions of propanol at 25 °C and constant ionic strength 0.1 mol·dm−3 sodium perchlorate. The composition of the complex was determined by the continuous variation method. It was shown that molybdenum(VI) forms a mononuclear 1:1 complex with nitrilotriacetic acid of the type MoO3L−3 at −lg[H+]=5.8. The formation constants in various media were analyzed in terms of Kamlet and Taft's parameters. Linear relationships were observed when lg KS was plotted versus p*. Finally, the results were discussed in terms of the effect of solvent on complexation.
