Performing a comprehensive emission accounting via monitoring equipment to survey the performance of machinery is often an intensive work and costly. This often requiring hours of measurements and a sufficient number of observations to obtain valid findings. The purpose of current work is to introduce a screening emission accounting as a way to have a quick overview of emissions associated with non-road mobile machinery by having a simplified assessment method. To meet this aim, this study uses documented data from performances of machinery and couples them with the recently published guidebook by the European Emission Agency. To map the results, operational performances of four wheel loaders operating in quarries to move stone materials are used, equipped with Stage IV engines and net power output in a range between 130 ≤ kW < 560. The obtained results showed that the positive correlation between an increase in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions is not changed. The mass of emissions, however, is better addressed if emissions are linked with the efficiency of equipment, instead of effective hour. Machinery that consumed less fuel per m3 moved volume of materials, resulted in having less emissions compared to those that had higher fuel consumption per m3 moved volume.

Increased urbanisation constantly demands more infrastructure, often requiring the construction of tunnels and facilities underground. The complexity of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) function and the complicated nature of soft ground and soil working environments make the estimation of wear a challenging issue. The following tests and procedures are included in the original contribution to this PhD study; 1) an overview and presentation of various laboratory methods designed to estimate and assess soil abrasivity in connection with soft ground TBM tunnelling, 2) the development of models, based on simplified laboratory tests, for the estimation of TBM tool life when excavating soil and soft ground, 3) the development of the Soft Ground Abrasion Tester (SGAT), designed to increase the validity of simplified estimation tools. The simplified laboratory tests incorporate the Soil Abrasion Test (SAT™), quartz content measurements, and the geotechnical uniformity index Cu. Test results have been correlated with, and validated against, TBM tool life and performance data from 16 TBM projects. Laboratory test results obtained from the SAT™ provide a good estimation of soft ground excavation tool life. Furthermore, an empirical formula obtained by means of multiple regression analysis using SAT™ and Cu values as variables, and soft ground tool life as the dependent variable, has been derived, and provides a good estimation of soft ground excavation tool life. In addition, the validity of the formula is evaluated against an on-going European TBM tunnelling project. The SGAT has been developed in order to study how variation in geotechnical parameters such as soil compaction and density, water content, groundwater pressure and soil conditioning additive’s influence the abrasivity of soils. Furthermore, the SGAT provides opportunities to measure the influence of abrasive wear by varying TBM parameters such as thrust, rpm and torque. The main results obtained from the SGAT are that the moisture content of a soil sample, and thus its compactibility, influences soil abrasivity by as much as ±250%. There is a clear correlation between measured weight loss and torque requirement, and a reduction of torque by approximately 40% is achievable with proper soil conditioning. In addition, measured wear can be as low as 20% of that for an unconditioned sample. Research results have been achieved mainly by using the following four approaches, 1) literature studies, 2) laboratory tests, 3) field research, and 4) discussions and experience sharing with individuals, users and experts in the tunnelling industry. These methods were chosen since they offer a variety of approaches to the complex problem of soil abrasivity in soft ground TBM tunnelling, and to avoid an exclusive focus on any single source such as ideal laboratory tests, published literature or field experience. Byggebransjen er en bransje som er ansett for å være veldig tradisjonell og til tider utdatert når det kommer til filosofi og arbeidsmetodikk. En av hovedutfordringene i dagens bransje er at prosjektene blir stadig mer komplekse, som også medfører en økt informasjonsmengde. De siste tiåret har flere og flere aktører tatt i bruk tankegangen for Lean Produksjon og Lean Konstruksjon. Filosofien har en rekke tilsynelatende positive effekter som standardisering, flyteffektivitet og bedre fremdriftsstyring med tanke på tid og ressurser. Derfor er HENT AS en av entreprenørene som har valgt å implementere denne filosofien i sin organisasjon. Det ble utarbeidet en veileder med navnet «Trimmet Gjennomføring», den baserte seg på HENT AS sin tolkning av Lean Konstruksjon. I 2016 leide også bedriften inn eksterne rådgivere som skulle jobbe med implementeringen og opplæringen av Lean-filosofien. Formålet med denne oppgaven har derfor vært å studere hvordan implementeringen av Lean har påvirke de ulike aktørene i prosjektet, og samtidig sett på de tre faktorene som anses å være prosjektets suksesskriterier i form av tid, kostnad og kvalitet. Problemstillingen som er valgt er derfor å undersøke hvordan implementeringen av Trimmet gjennomføring har påvirket tid, kvalitet og kostnad på HENT AS sine byggeprosjekt. For å besvare denne problemstillingen er det definert tre forskningsspørsmål: FS1: Hvordan påvirker trimmet gjennomføring tid, kostnad og kvalitet? FS2: Har byggherre, entreprenør og underleverandør samme oppfatning og erfaring? FS3: Hvilke svakheter har denne formen for arbeidsmetodikk For å besvare problemstillingen og forskningsspørsmålene er det derfor gjennomført en omfattende litteraturstudie, en rekke intervjuer av nøkkelpersonell i HENT AS, byggherrer og underleverandører, samt en større spørreundersøkelse i HENT AS. Disse metodene er blitt brukt som et supplement for å få et helhetsbilde av dagens situasjon på byggeprosjektene etter innføringen av Trimmet gjennomføring. Omfanget av masteroppgaven er 30 studiepoeng og er gjennomført som en deltidsstudie ved siden av full jobb. Denne masteroppgaven ble påstartet januar 2019. Resultatene og konklusjonen i denne oppgaven er tenkt som grunnlag for forbedringer i organisasjonen. Det er derfor ønskelig å se på konkrete faktorer som ikke er optimale, slik at dette kan være grunnlag for ytterligere forbedring. Studiene viser at Trimmet gjennomføring øker sannsynligheten for at prosjektene leverer bedre med tanke på tid, kostnad og kvalitet. Det som er avgjørende er i hvilken grad denne arbeidsmetodikken brukes på prosjekt. Hvordan arbeidsmetodikken anvendes er også veldig prosjektspesifikt. Det handler om å endre en hel bedriftskultur til å tenke nytt, med ny filosofi. The construction industry is very traditional and at times outdated when it comes to philosophy and work methods. One of the main challenges in today's industry is that the projects are becoming increasingly complex, which also gains an increased amount of information. In the last decade, more and more companies have adopted the thinking of Lean Production and Lean Construction. The philosophy has several seemingly positive effects such as standardization, flow efficiency and better progress management in terms of planning and resources efficiency. Therefore, HENT AS is one of the entrepreneurs who have chosen to implement this philosophy in their organization. A guideline called «Trimmet Gjennomføring» was published. The guideline was based on HENT AS interpretation of Lean Construction. In 2016, the company also hired external consultants to work on the implementation and coursing of the Lean philosophy. The purpose of this thesis has therefore been to study how the implementation of Lean has affected the various stakeholders in the project’s, and at the same time study the three factors that are considered to be the project's success criteria in terms of time, cost and quality. The topic that has been chosen for this thesis is therefore to study and analyse how the implementation of Trimmet Gjennomføring has affected time, quality and cost on HENT AS's construction projects. To answer this question, I have defined three research questions: FS1: How does Trimmet Gjennomføring affect time, cost and quality? FS2: Does the client, contractor and subcontractor have the same opinion and experience? FS3: What are the weaknesses of this form of working methodology To answer the research questions, a comprehensive literature study has therefore been reviewed, a number of interviews with key personnel in HENT AS, builders and subcontractors, as well as a major survey in HENT AS. These methods have been used as a supplement to get an overall picture of the current situation, and of the construction projects since the introduction of Trimmet Gjennomføring. The scope of the master thesis is 30 credits and is completed as a part-time study alongside a full-time job. This master thesis was started in January 2019. The results and conclusion of this thesis is a basis for improvements in the organization. It is therefore preferably to look at specific factors that are not optimal, so that it can be a basis for further improvement. The studies show that Trimmet Gjennomføring increases the probability that the projects deliver better in terms of time, cost and quality. The crucial part is the extent the methodology is used on the projects. How the work methodology is used is also very project specific. It is all about changing an entire corporate culture to think new, with a new philosophy.

Lieråsen tunnel er en dobbeltsporet tunnel og er en av de mest trafikkerte på det norske jernbanenettet. Fra sommeren 2018 til sommeren 2021 rehabiliteres Lieråsen tunnel. Formålet med prosjektet er å forbedre påliteligheten til togtrafikken. Forventet levetid på tunnelen etter fullført prosjekt er 30 år. Det har de siste 20 årene flere ganger vært ulike prosjekter i tunnelen. Dette medfører at tunnelen må stenges og påfører samfunnet store utfordringer og kostnader knyttet til avvikling av togtrafikken. For å redusere stengeperioder vil det kunne være aktuelt å bygge en parallell tunnel. Det vil i denne rapporten undersøkes på et utredningsnivå 2 ulike tunnelkonsepter med 2 ulike drivemetoder. Det legges spesielt vekt på forhold som byggetid, kostnader og påvirkning på det ytre miljøet. Data knyttet til erfaringer fra driving av eksisterende Lieråsen tunnel tyder på at det er sannsynlig at en ny tunnel kan drives både med konvensjonell metode og TBM maskin. Det er i midlertidig knyttet større risiko knyttet til driving med TBM grunnet områder med svakhetssoner. Videre geologiske forundersøkelser vil kunne gi et bedre utgangspunkt for å forutse og håndtere uønskede hendelser og dermed redusere risikoen. En av de store fordelene ved å benytte TBM til driving av tunnelen er mindre påvirkning på det ytre miljøet enn ved konvensjonell driving. Videre vil TBM ha kortere byggetid på grunn av høyere inndrift under forutsetning av at uønskede hendelser ikke oppstår. For byggekostnader kommer konvensjonell driving best ut med betydelig lavere kostnader enn for TBM. Det er på bakgrunn av vurderingene konkludert med at TBM vil være det gunstigste valget. Lieråsen tunnel is a double track tunnel and is one of the busiest on the Norwegian rail network. From summer 2018 to summer 2021, the Lieråsen tunnel will be rehabilitated. The purpose of the project is to improve the reliability of the train traffic. The expected life of the tunnel after completion of the project is 30 years. There have been several projects in the tunnel over the last 20 years. This means that the tunnel must be closed and impose great challenges and costs on society in connection with the shutdown of train traffic. In order to reduce closing periods, it may be appropriate to build a parallel tunnel. In this report, two different tunnel concepts with 2 different driving methods will be investigated at an investigation level. Particular emphasis is placed on conditions such as construction time, costs and impact on the external environment. Data related to experience from driving an existing Lieråsen tunnel indicate that it is likely that a new tunnel can be operated using both conventional method and TBM machine. However, there is greater risk associated with driving with TBM due to areas with weakness zones. Further geological surveys could provide a better starting point for predicting and managing adverse events and thus reducing the risk. One of the major advantages of using TBM for driving the tunnel is less impact on the external environment than conventional driving. Furthermore, TBM will have shorter build time due to higher propulsion provided that undesirable events do not occur. For construction costs, conventional driving comes out best with significantly lower costs than TBM. On the basis of the assessments, it is concluded that TBM will be the most favorable choice.

En vanlig kilde til problemer og tvister ved bruk av TBM for driving av tunneler i hardt fjell, er uforutsett og ugunstig geologi kjent som Mixed Face Conditions (MFC). MFC kan forårsake alvorlige problemer under driving og potensielt resultere i redusert maskinytelse og forsinkelser. Begrepet Mixed Face Conditions er et mye brukt uttrykk ved TBM-driving, men det finnes ingen klar og utvetydig vitenskapelig definisjon på MFC. Mangelen på en definisjon gjør MFC til et sensitivt og omdiskutert tema i tunnelindustrien, først og fremst ved aktualisering i relasjon til økte kostnader og krav. For bedre å kunne definere geologi som MFC samt vurdere innflytelsen MFC har på maksinytelse og prosjektframdrift, studerer denne masteroppgaven muligheten for å detektere MFC på stuff, gjennom analyse av signaturer i maskindata. Oppgaven presenterer den viktigste vitenskapelige litteraturen relatert til deteksjon og innflytelse av MFC-geologi, for å undersøke mulighetene for å detektere MFC fra maskindata. Ufiltrert maskindata fra den nylig ferdigborede Follobanen ble gjort tilgjengelig for analyse, og en filtreringskode er utviklet og presentert. Den utviklede filtreringskoden sikrer tilstrekkelig filtrering av feillogget- og ikke-representativ data, som videre muliggjør analyser av et representativt sett med maskindata utelukkende logget under boringen. Resultater og analyse av litteraturen og den filtrerte maskindataen finnes presentert og forklart i oppgaven. Gjennom litteraturen ble det funnet mulig å fastslå en korrelasjon mellom geologi som gir tilsvarende effekter og problemer som MFC, men antagelig ikke MFC isolert. Fra analysen av filtrerte maskindata ble det videre funnet plausibelt å kunne detektere en sammenheng mellom signaturer i maskindata og mulig forekomst av MFC på stuff, men ikke utelukkende fra maskindata i seg selv. For å fastslå forekomster av MFC gjennom maskindata, foreslås det at datasignaturer ansett som mulig MFC, underbygges av data på kutterlevetid og kutterbytter, ingeniørgeologiske kartlegginger, samt data fra andre faktorer relatert til MFC. A common source of trouble and dispute in hard rock TBM-tunneling is unforeseen and unfavorable geology known as Mixed Face Conditions (MFC). MFC has the potential of causing severe problems and may trigger hazards, resulting in reduced TBM performance. Being a common term in TBM-tunneling, there is however no clear and unambiguous scientific definition on MFC, making it a sensitive and highly discussed topic in the TBM-tunneling industry, primarily when actualized in relation to additional costs and claims. As a way to better assess geology as MFC and the influence it has on the overall TBM performance, the work in this Thesis is about the possibility of determining the presence of MFC on the working face of hard rock TBM’s from signatures in TBM performance recordings. Up-to-date literature on the influence and detection of MFC is assessed and presented to reveal the possibility of determining MFC presence from recorded TBM performance data. TBM data from the recently finished Follo Line tunnel were provided for analyzes, and a TBM raw-data filtering code is developed and presented. The developed filtering code ensures adequate filtering of error recordings and non-representative data, enabling analyses of a representative set of TBM performance data, recorded solely during actual boring operation. Results and analyses of the literature and filtered TBM performance data is presented and explain From literature, it was found possible to determine a correlation between geology constituting the same effects and problems on the TBM performance as MFC, but possibly not MFC exclusively. Through the analysis of filtered TBM performance data, it was further found plausible to determine a correlation between TBM performance signatures and the presence of MFC, but not solely from TBM performance data. To determine the presence of MFC from performance data, it is thus suggested that the signature of MFC presence is substantiated by data on cutter tool life, geological face mappings and other factors relating to MFC.

NTNUs prognosemodell for konvensjonell tunneldrift er et empiribasert verktøy for planlegging av utførelsesmetoder og for estimering av inndrift og kostnader ved bruk av boring og sprenging som drivemetode. Siste revisjon av prognosemodellen ble foretatt i 2007, og gjennom indikasjoner fra næringslivet har det kommet frem at resultater og forslag til utførelse som NTNU-modellen gir, ikke alltid samsvarer med den praksis som utøves. Det foreligger derfor et ønske om å undersøke modellens relevans i forhold til metoder og fremgangsmåter som i dag benyttes for boring og sprenging av tunneler. Denne masteroppgaven har som formål å sammenligne praksis fra dagens tunnelbransje med resultater og anbefalinger fra NTNUs prognosemodell for konvensjonell tunneldrift. Gjennom arbeidet med oppgaven har det blitt avdekket forskjeller mellom anbefalt borhullsmengde fra prognosemodellen, sammenlignet med den borhullsmengde som benyttes på tunnelprosjekter i dag. Mulige årsaker til hvorfor disse avvikene foreligger har også blitt presentert og drøftet. Vitenskapelig forskningsarbeid fordrer bruk av ulike metoder for innhenting, analyse og diskusjon av informasjon. Disse har blitt redegjort for og diskutert for å sikre reliabilitet og validitet. Første steg i arbeidet var undersøkelse av eksisterende litteratur innen gjeldende tema. Dette har blitt utført ved hjelp av et litteratursøk for å identifisere dagens forskningsfront, samt utvide forfatters egen kunnskapshorisont. Funn herfra har dannet grunnlaget i masterens teoridel. Oppgavens primæranalyse er en komparativ analyse hvor tverrsnittsdata fra ulike veitunnelprosjekter har blitt sammenlignet med de anbefalinger NTNU-modellen gir for tilsvarende tverrsnitt. Data fra de totalt 55 tverrsnittene har blitt innsamlet gjennom kontakt med bransjen. Det forelå også et ønske om å knytte forskningsarbeidet til et pågående tunnelprosjekt, og det har derfor blitt gjennomført et case-studie. Studieobjektet som har blitt undersøkt er et veitunnelprosjekt i Norge, og funn herfra har blitt benyttet til å underbygge resultater fra den komparative analysen. Basert på gitte antagelser har den komparative analysen avdekket at den borhullsmengde entreprenører benytter i dag generelt er høyere enn anbefalinger fra prognosemodellen. For innsamlede tverrsnitt med medium sprengbarhet har gjennomsnittlig differanse i borhullsmengde blitt funnet til å være 42 hull. Gjennomsnittlig tilsvarer dette en økning på 22,8 % sammenlignet med prognosemodellens anbefalinger. For tverrsnittsgruppen med dårlig sprengbarhet er det avdekket at det gjennomsnittlig foreligger en differanse på 33 borhull, noe som tilsvarer en økning på 27,3 % i forhold til anbefalingen prognosemodellen gir. Identifiserte mulige årsaker til disse avvikene har blitt funnet til å være endrede konturkrav, forskjell i praksis for entreprenør, teknologisk utvikling for maskiner og utstyr og endrede insentiver. Avslutningsvis har også anbefalinger til videre arbeid med verifisering av prognosemodellen blitt fremlagt. The NTNU prediction model for conventional tunnelling is an empirical-based tool for construction planning and for estimation of advance rate and costs when using drill-and-blast excavation method. The last revision of the model was carried out in 2007. Due to recent notions from the industry, the relevance of the results and recommendations provided by the model is questioned. Consequently, a review of the model’s relevance in comparison to common practices in drill and blast tunnelling has been desired. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate current practices in the tunnel industry compared to results and suggestions for methods of construction yielded by the NTNU prediction model. Through work conducted, existing differences between the recommended number of drill holes from the prediction model, compared with the number of drill holes used in today’s tunnel construction projects have been investigated. Possible reasons for these discrepancies have also been presented and discussed. Scientific research requires use of different methods for obtention, analysis and discussion of information. These have been accounted for and discussed to ensure reliability and validity. A review of literature and research has been conducted in examination of existing knowledge. This has identified the current state of research, as well as expanded the author’s own knowledge on the topic. Findings from these reviews have contributed to form the theoretical background of the thesis. The primary analysis of the task is a comparative analysis in which cross-sectional data from various road tunnel projects have been compared with recommendations provided by the NTNU model for the given cross-sections. Data from a total of 55 cross sections have been collected through contact with the industry. There was also a desire to link the research work to an ongoing tunnelling project, and a case study has therefore been carried out. The examined object is a road tunnel project in Norway, and findings from this study have been utilized to underpin results from the comparative analysis. Based on given assumptions, the comparative analysis has revealed that contractors generally use a higher number of drill holes compared to recommendations from the NTNU prediction model. For the collected cross-sections with medium blastability, the average deviation in drill hole quantity has been found to be 42 holes. On average, this corresponds to a 22.8 % increase compared to the prediction model's suggestions. For cross sections in the group with poor blastability, an average deviation of 33 drill holes has been discovered, which corresponds to a 27.3 % increase compared to the model’s provided recommendation. Possible causes of these discrepancies have been identified and reviewed; change in contour requirements, shift in contractor practice, technological development for machinery and equipment, as well as changes in contractors' incentives. Finally, recommendations for future work on verification of the NTNU prediction model has been presented.

The use of Tunnel Boring Machines when excavating tunnels allows for a highly industrialized form of production, while at the same time introducing new kinds of risks and challenges in regards of performance estimation and advance rates. The work in this thesis is focused on verifying the NTNU-and $Q_{TBM}$-models for performance estimation. In addition, there has been conducted an assessment of the time required for achieving high utilization after a longer period of stand-still due to maloperation of a TBM. A general assessment of the project execution is included to set the performance in context with its surroundings. A field study at the Upper Kontum Hydroelectric Powerplant in Vietnam was conducted to gather data and to do a general assessment of the work at the site. Geological back-mapping of parts of the tunnel and penetration tests with the TBM was conducted, in addition to assessing the general quality of the production system. Geology and performance data for the entire tunnel length was reviewed in cooperation with the project geologists to ensure a correct assessment and analysis. The data gathered suggested that both estimation models gave quite accurate results for net penetration rate in the geology found at site, while also suggesting that the $Q_{TBM}$-model in certain cases is too influenced by the applied cutter thrust. There should be expected approximately six months of reduced utilization before an increase is observed when restarting a project, due to the complexity of ensuring all systems work properly after maloperation of the TBM. The utilization given by the NTNU-model appears to be somewhat optimistic, while utilization given by the $Q_{TBM}$-model does not provide a realistic estimation. The use of wider cutter tips appears to ensure a significantly higher expected lifetime than what is suggested by the Cutter Lifetime Index. In total, TBM performance can be accurately estimated when using the estimation models. There should however be extensive knowledge regarding the functional structure of the models, to ensure that their limitations are well understood. Replacing contractors and taking over machines should be done with extensive care, as the potential limitations on utilization may cause severe delays and cost overruns.

Grunnet befolkningsvekst og økt transportbehov har Bane NOR startet planlegging av dobbelt jernbanespor mellom blant annet Øksnevad, Klepp og Bryne stasjon i Rogaland. I denne rapporten undersøkes muligheten for å bygge det nye dobbeltsporet i en 6810 m lang kontinuerlig tunnel mellom stasjonene. Formålet er å spare et viktig jordbruksområde i Rogaland. Ut i fra fremskaffet informasjon om de geologiske forholdene i området, er det studert ulike tunnelløsninger og drivemetoder, samt kostnad og inndrift for disse.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the difference in the use of rock support measures in tunnels excavated by different methods. The methods examined are excavation by Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and excavation by drill and blast. The aim of the study has been to address whether the smooth contour that excavation by TBM provides, leads to reduced amounts of rock support. Field work has been carried out to examine the possible relation between the method of excavation and rock support requirements. The field work was conducted at Upper Kon Tum Hydroelectric Power Project (HPP) in Vietnam. Here has 650 meters of a headrace tunnel, excavated by TBM, been geologically mapped. At the outlet of the headrace tunnel, a short portal tunnel was excavated by drill and blast. 105 meters of this portal tunnel was also mapped to be able to compare the need for rock support in the two types of tunnels. The mapped rock mass has been classified according to established rock mass classification systems. The Rock Quality Index (Q-system) and the Rock Mass Rating (RMR-system) has been used for this purpose. Estimations of both type and quantity of rock support based on the classification systems are given, and has been compared to already installed rock support in the tunnels. In addition, estimations regarding costs of rock support has been done. In total 755 meters of the tunnel at Upper Kon Tum HPP were mapped with respect to geology. The rock mass is characterized as hard and competent, and it is regularly intersected by zones of weakness. The collected data basis consists mainly of rock mass in the classes of fair to extremely good quality, according to the Q-system, and the rock mass classes I and II, according to the RMR-system. For rock mass of quality between fair and extremely good, it has been found that only rock bolting is necessary as rock support. The need for rock bolting is reduced by a number of 266 rock bolts when the tunnel is excavated by TBM compared to drill and blast. 555 meters of the headrace tunnel, was within these rock mass classes. The reduced number of bolts corresponds to a saving of around 360 NOK per meter tunnel excavated. The conclusive remarks are that the amount of rock support is reduced in tunnels excavated by tunnel boring machines compared to tunnels excavated by drill and blast in the form of rock bolts. For other kinds of rock support, no relation to the method of excavation has been found. However, the basis of data is not strong enough to make up a final conclusion on this matter. It is, nevertheless, likely that further studies will be able to confirm this indication.

Denne masteroppgaven tar for seg de fire vann- og frostsikringsløsninger som blir brukt i norske infrastrukturtunneler i dag med fokus på klimagassutslipp. Den går også inn på en potensiell ny løsning for vann- og frostsikring og vurderer denne opp mot de eksisterende løsningene. Det er kun sett på tunneler som bygges på tradisjonelt vis, dvs. med boring og sprengning. Tunnelboremaskiner har andre forutsetninger for VoF og behandles ikke i denne oppgaven. Infrastrukturtunneler er blitt en betongtung konstruksjon og mye sement brukes til å sikre tunnelene etter sprengning ved innsprøyting av sement og et lag med ca. 8 cm sprøytebetong brukes for å sikre tunnelen for arbeid der det trengs før vann- og frostsikring bygges. Dette fører til høye klimagassutslipp og det er det denne oppgaven skal se på. For VoF løsningene er det klimagassutslipp i forbindelse med produksjon av materialer, transport og bygging som er tatt med. Vedlikehold av løsningene er ikke inkludert. Levetiden er usikker, men begrunnede, estimerte levetider blir vurdert opp mot løsningene. Det økonomiske aspektet er ikke vurdert. Det er observert store ulikheter når det gjelder hvor store utslipp betong fører til og dermed er dette en usikker post. På generell basis er det, ikke overraskende, løsningene med mest betong som kommer verst ut med tanke på klimagassutslipp. Klimagassutslipp fra andre materialer har hver for seg lite å si for totalen. Transport til byggeplass kan ha mye å si for klimagassutslippet, men blir en lokal betongleverandør valgt er avstandene for betongtransport normalt korte og klimagassutslippene tilsvarende små. Dette er for øvrig noe man bør tenke på når betongleverandør blir valgt enten av entreprenør eller byggherre. Selve byggingen viser seg å ha lite å si for klimagassutslipp sett i forhold til materialproduksjonen. Om man skal velge ett fokusområde for å minske klimagassutslipp bør man derfor se på materialene som brukes og måter for å redusere materialforbruk. Dette kan for eksempel gjøres ved å velge en VoF løsning som bruker lite betong. Når man deler CO2-utslippet fra de ulike løsningene på estimerte levetider for hver løsning ser man at CO2-utslippene jevner seg ut. Det vil si at den mest betongtunge VoFen har lengre levetid, men den mest betongtunge løsningen kommer allikevel ut som den dårligste når det gjelder klimagassutslipp fordelt på leveår. Løsningen som ikke er blitt brukt i VoF før, Foamrox skumglass er den løsningen som kommer best ut i omtrent alle resultatene og forskning på dette materialet som VoF bør iverksettes. Løsningen med sprøytbar membran kommer også godt ut av resultatene, men denne krever at det ikke er rennende vann når membranen sprøytes på og fungerer dårlig i frostutsatte områder. Rangeringen av løsningene fra lavest til høyest CO2-ekv. i dette studiet med betong CEM II ble som følger: 1. Foamrox skumglass med enten veggelementer eller føringskant av betong 2. Sprøytbar membran ved liten frostmengde 3. PE-skum med sprøytebetong og enten veggelementer eller føringskant av betong 4. Betongelementer i hele hvelvet 5. Helstøpt hvelv Dette er løsningene for veitunneler. Den samme rekkefølgen vil gjelde for jernbanetunneler, men uten veggelementer eller føringskant for løsningen med Foamrox og uten løsningen med PE-skum da det ikke lenger brukes i jernbanetunneler.

There is a consensus in the civil construction industry that the dispute level is very high, and have increased significantly over the past years. Claims are totaling hundreds of millions of kroner. This study looks at disputes in the Norwegian underground construction industry ending in the court system, and comprises disputes between public owners and the largest contractors in the country over the past ten years. The main objectives of the master s thesis are to collect information on disputes ending in the court system. Court documents are studied to identify the types of disputes most likely to end in court, and identify underlying factors for why these disputes remain unresolved through the projects. Additionally, the goal of the study s to propose mitigation measures to reduce the number of court cases. A literature review was performed to find former studies on the subject, and determining the industries standing and views on the problem. The main body of the study encompasses document studies and interviews. The aim from the document study is to collect information on court rulings, in order to determine litigation cause, duration and to perform a financial assessment. The interviews focus on identifying the underlying factors for these disputes. The results show that disputes ending in the court system originates from ambiguities and mistakes in tender and contract documents, and from disagreement over progress disturbances not solved during construction, ending in large and complicated claims in the final account. On average, these cases take between 1 to 2,5 years to conclude. The thesis concludes that the underlying factors for these disputes are; the procurement strategy, optimistic bidding, inadequate scheduling work, communication problems, and personal issues. The recommended measures to reduce the number of litigation in the industry is to facilitate for earlier involvement of the contractors in large and complicated projects. Furthermore, it is recommended using conflict resolution concepts during construction, to solve disputes early.

A new railway tunnel through the mountain of Ulriken is constructed from Arna to Bergen, Norway. The tunnel project is named the New Ulriken Tunnel, and is constructed with a combination of drill and blast and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). This is the first time a TBM is used to construct a railway tunnel in Norway. Consequently, this thesis is written in relation with the New Ulriken Tunnel with the main objective to study and compare different prediction models for TBM. Seven models were chosen, and will be presented and calculated individually. The different models are: - The NTNU-model - A model by Farrokh et al. (2012) presented in the journal Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology - A model by Hassanpour et al. (2011) presented in the journal Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology - The Gehring model - The Apline model (modified Gehring) - The QTBM-model - The CSM- and MCSM-model (Modified CSM) At last, the different results are compared towards each other as well as the achieved net penetration rate at the New Ulriken Tunnel. This comparison will give a deeper understanding of the models and how they behave with different input values. The models require multiple input parameters, consisting of both machine and geological data. Thus, gathering field data at the New Ulriken Tunnel project has been a priority in this thesis. Over a period of eight weeks detailed mapping of the rock, various tests with the machine, and drilling of core samples were conducted. A 700-meter section of the tunnel was investigated, from TM 3775 TM 4475. In addition, TBM machine data was collected through an automatic logging system. This software logs every 10th second, providing a vast amount of data. After the collection of necessary data was completed, the in-situ samples were taken back to the laboratory and tested. The combination of the data was later put together and calculations of the different models were carried out. Several spreadsheets are created in Microsoft Excel, creating a large amount of graphs and tables. The different spreadsheets display calculations and results for the geological investigation, TBM performance data, penetration- and RPM tests, chip analysis, and model performance predictions. The organization and calculations of this data in Excel have been a time-consuming activity. All results presented in this thesis are an outcome of this work. All the used methodologies contain possible sources of error. Therefore, a thorough review of methodologies, calculations and results has been completed. When all the needed parameters are established the prediction models can be calculated. The predicted net penetration rates from each model are compared to what has been achieved at the selected tunnel segment at the New Ulriken Tunnel. The results indicate that the model by Hassanpour et al. and the Alpine model show the most promising predictions. These models estimate net penetration rates very close to what has been achieved at the New Ulriken Tunnel. However, if a conservative result is more sought after, the Gehring model calculates the best values. The study of the different models shows that cutter thrust, rock mass fracturing, and UCS are the machine and geological parameters most affecting the net penetration rate. It is therefore important that the models include these parameters to better reflect real situations. Cutter ring life has been calculated using the NTNU-model. The estimations show good correlation with the actual cutter consumption while using achieved net penetration rates from the New Ulriken Tunnel. The results in this thesis show that TBM prediction models are a good tool for project management. Predictions are relevant both for the early stages as well as during the construction of a project. However, more than one prediction model should be calculated to ensure a reliable result.

Entreprisen UFP-08 Eidanger er et komplekst jernbaneprosjekt som er en av fire grunnentrepriser i parsell nr. 12 mellom Farriseidet-Porsgrunn. Eidangertunnelen er hoveddelen i entreprisen UFP-08 Eidanger. Den største utfordringen for prosjektet er den kritiske sonen ved Tveitanlia.Den kritiske sonen består av lav fjelloverdekning med en minste masseoverdekning på 8,0 m. I forbindelse med kartlegging av terrenget har det blitt gjennomført gode forundersøkelser i prosjektet. Det å få kartlagt den kritiske sonen i god tid før utførelsen har åpnet flere valgmuligheter med å forsere den kritiske sonen. Denne oppgaven skal vurdere seks ulike drivemetoder i forbindelse med den kritiske sonen. Det er lagt vekt på å vurdere metodene med hensyn på kriteriene: teknikk, ressursbruk/framdrift, miljø og risiko. TBM driften ble tidlig eliminert av den enkle grunn at tunnellengden er for kort til at den kan være konkurransedyktig på pris i forhold til konvensjonell drift. To andre drivemetoder ble også tidlig eliminert i forhold til kriteriene. En viktig del av oppgaven vil være å tilegne seg kompetanse innen de ulike drivemetodene. Flere av drivemetodene er veldig komplekse og vil kreve et mer detaljert arbeid. Den tilegnede kompetansen vil senere i oppgaven brukes til å bearbeide de andre kriteriene. For hver drivemetode vil det komme et forslag på hvordan en kan løse forseringen ved Tveitanlia. Arbeidet med å beregne hvor lang tid det vil ta å forsere den kritiske sonen har en utarbeidet gjennom tallmateriale fra Implenia Norge AS. I beregningene er tunneltverrsnittet på 152,2m2 likt for alle drivemetodene. Lengden på den kritiske sonen varierer med valget av drivemetode. Med drivemetoden "cut and cover" inngår det store mengder med graving og sprengning av den kritiske sonen fra dagen. Her må store mengder med masser mellomlagres på anlegget. En slik løsning vil gi en betydelig høyere risiko for at en uønsket hendelse skal finne sted. Med de to andre drivemetodene reduseres risikoen grunnet arbeid i fra tunnelen.Resultatene fra de vurderingene som har blitt gjort i oppgaven viser at metoden Pantex gitterbuer og Ischebeck spilingbolter er det beste valget til å forsere den kritiske sonen. De fire hovedkriteriene i at denne metoden velges fremfor de andre er: Helheten av den tekniske løsningen, ferdigstillelsestiden, risikoanalysen og at arbeidet gjøres i fra stuff.

Kraftverket Nedre Røssåga har hatt en lang driftsperiode, og består av eldre aggregat. I 2010 ble det besluttet å oppgradere anlegget med blant annet en ny tilløpstunnel parallelt med den eksisterende. Lengden på tilløpstunnelen er prosjektert til 7800 m. Drivemetoden i prosjektet er allerede bestemt, og for første gang siden 90-tallet skal det benyttes fullprofilboring i Norge. Denne oppgaven skal vurdere drivemetodene konvensjonell driving og fullprofilboring på bakgrunn av kostnad, byggetid, gjennomføring og forventet resultat. Hovedfokuset i oppgaven er på inndrift og kostnader.En viktig del av oppgaven består av å estimere drivetekniske parametere og andre geologiske forhold, slik at beregningsgrunnlaget blir best mulig. Grunnlagsmaterialet til oppgaven er prosjektert med tanke på konvensjonell drift, noe som gir usikkerhet rundt anleggsgjennomføringen ved fullprofilboring.Geologiske forhold har blitt vurdert ut i fra tilgjengelig informasjon og er generelt noe usikker. Beregningen av tid og kostnad knyttet til drivingen av tunnelen er utført i prognosemodellene Tunsim og Fullprof. Andre beregninger er gjort ved hjelp av andre prognosemodeller utarbeidet ved NTNU. I beregningene er tunnelen forutsatt 7220 m lang, med to forskjellige tverrsnitt. Tverrsnittene er forutsatt å være 40,7 m2 og 50 m2 , for henholdsvis fullprofilboring og konvensjonell driving. Beregningene for konvensjonell drift tar utgangspunkt i driving med to stuffer fra Tullavbekken, mens ved fullprofilboring antas det driving fra inntaket og nordover mot kraftstasjonen. Resultatet av beregningene er som følger: Konvensjonell drift FullprofilboringByggetid 55,31 uker 69,2 ukerKostnad 126 495 967 kr 156 044 504 krResultatene viser at konvensjonell drift både har lavest kostnader og kortest byggetid. Tunnel skal blir brukt som vannføringstunnel og det bør derfor legges stor vekt på sluttproduktet. Merkostnaden ved fullprofilboring kan bli utjevnet av fremtidig inntjening over prosjektets leveperiode. Det er ikke tatt hensyn til fremtidige inntekter i vurderingen. Tilløpstunnelen er kun en del av prosjektet, og det er ikke vurdert i hvilke konsekvenser drivemetodene har for resten av prosjektet. Ut i fra kriteriene er konvensjonell drift vurdert som den best egnede drivemetoden.

In this master thesis experiments were conducted to determine the abrasion-corrosion properties of a steel designed for TBM tunnelling. This was done by three different tests, reciprocal ball-on-plate, rubber wheel and hyperbaric soil abrasion test. The reciprocal tests were done by rubbing steel balls onto rock obtained from a tunnel boring site in the Faroe Islands. The test were performed in dry conditions, in water from the same site as rock and a mixture of the water and a foam designed for use in hard rock tunnel boring. During these tests no measurable weight loss was produced, but the water and the foam caused some pitting to occur on the steel surface. The water and foam also provided some lubrication, where the foam clearly was the best lubricant by producing elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL). The rubber wheel tests were performed in different combinations of water, sand, oil and a foam specially designed for soft ground tunnel boring. The sands used were sand used for making casting moulds and sand obtained from a soft ground tunnel boring site in Israel. The two different water samples used were obtained from the site in the Faroe Islands mentioned above and the previous mentioned Israel site. The tests showed that adding foam to the sand and water mixture significantly reduced the measured weight loss. However, as for the reciprocal ball-on-plate test, the foam caused pitting to occur. The same corrosion effect was observed for the oil additive, but the oil did not provide enough lubrication to avoid abrasive wear. Consequently, the test with the oil additive produced the biggest weight loss of all the rubber wheel tests. The hyperbaric soil abrasion tests were performed in the sand obtained at the site in Israel. The sand was tested both dry and saturated with water from Israel. Tests showed that the measured weight loss from these two tests was similar. However, SEM pictures revealed that in the test with sand saturated with water, both abrasion and corrosion had occurred. While in the dry sand, only abrasion had occurred. This indicates that in this test the hardness of the steel and abrasiveness of the sand is more decisive for the weight loss than the corrosivity of the solution.
