The aim of this study is to develop an attitude scale about Kisan Call Centres (KCC) for dairy farming community. The purpose of scale construction is to design a questionnaire that provides a quantitative measurement of a theoretical variable. The method of Likert's summated rating was used to develop the attitude scale. A sum of 60 statements was selected by reviewing the literatures and given to the farmers of non-sample area in Tamil Nadu for their opinion on KCC. Those statements were then formulated using Likert Summated Rating Scale method and based upon 't' value obtained for each statement, 34 statements were retained on the final scale. The reliability and validity of the scale indicates its precision and consistency of the results. This scale can be used to measure farmers' attitude beyond the study area with suitable modifications in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scientific dairy farming in India is gradually being adopted by farming community due to the overriding effect on increased milk yield. This study examined the socio economic determinants of dairy farmers and their relationship with adoption of scientific dairy farming practices in Tamil Nadu State, South India. Data were collected from 150 randomly selected respondents in the study area and was analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS) software. The results revealed that education status, herd size, frequency of contact, information utilization pattern and information seeking behaviour are significantly correlated with the scientific dairy farming among dairy farmers of Tamil Nadu. It was recommended that adequate awareness should be created by the State Agricultural Department to generate the interest of farmers towards the use of instant information sources like Farmer's Call Centre (FCC) for clean milk production and enhanced milk yield. Efforts should also be made to strengthen the centre with trained staffs and advanced communication facilities like tele and video conferencing so that a reasonable number of farmers can be reached with scientific dairying information. Study on Adoption and Marketing behaviour of Maize growers", aimed to bring out a strategy to increase the adoption level of maize growers. The study was undertaken at three blocks viz. Udumalpet, Pollachi and Palladam blocks of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The analysis of extent of adoption indicated that the most favorable season for sowing was Adipattam by most of the farmers (54.44 %). Majority of the farmers followed all the maize field practices like basal urea application (61.11 %), top dressing (60.00 %), micronutrient application (46.70 %), seed treatment (34.50 %), weed crop protection (78.90 %) and water management (74.40 %). Most of the farmers in the study area (53.33 %) harvested the produce only when the seeds became dry and hard. The analysis of marketing behaviour indicated that the farmers sold the cobs in nearby town transporting through tractor. Study also indicated that one half of the respondents sold the entire harvested produce immediately after harvest through wholesalers. Majority of the farmers did grading and weighing before marketing the produce. Most of the farmers did not follow the storage pest protection measures. The neighbour farmers living in the same village were the main sources of information to the vast majority of maize growers. The crucial characteristics of the maize growers towards marketing behaviour were educational status, socioeconomic status, extension agency contact, storage facilities, market perception and market potential indicators.
