Abstract

Traditionally, the production efficiency of a factory floor is evaluated using non-real time objective functions. These are based on scheduling punctuality criteria such as 'earliness (a measure of finishing operations ahead of schedule)' and 'tardiness (a measure of delay in executing certain operations)'. With process automation becoming more and more inevitable due to the emergence of Industry 4.0 / Industry 5.0, real-time objective functions are also gaining popularity. One such criterion is 'synchronization' or 'timing'. In this article, an IoT enabled real-time synchronization approach is presented in the context of Integrated Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) from a service provider's perspective. A new business and operational model, termed as "Timing-As-A-Service (TAAS)", is introduced. Abstract

Extending the coverage in low average revenue per user networks is a challenging task as the constraints are very high in terms of cost of deployment. In order to reduce this cost, part of the optical fiber classically used for the backhaul link can be replaced by a long range wireless link between two base stations. Additionally, an in-band communication, where the same frequency band is used for the access links and the backhaul link, avoids dispensing additional spectral resources. In this paper, a massive multiple-input multiple-output system combined with a new precoding technique is proposed to provide a long-range in-band wireless backhaul link, while controlling the interference on the user side induced by the in-band communication. The proposed precoder, called regularized zero forcing with controlled interference, is analytically compared with the maximum ratio transmission and the zero forcing precoders in terms of received power on the receiving base station and interference level on the user side. Thereby, this work proves that the proposed precoder outperforms the zero forcing precoder in terms of received power on the receiving base station side and limits the interference level on the user side unlike the maximum ratio transmission precoder. Simulation results confirm the analytical study over a realistic scenario.

Abstract

International audience; In order to face the emergence of new needs, the development of the fifth generation of mobile networks (5G) has to take into account new constraints. Among them, the quality of service for high mobility communications, for examples trains and cars, should be improved. A high mobility creates interference related to the Doppler effect, which can severely damage the performance of the systems. In this paper, the impact of the Doppler effect on an uplink massive MIMO system is studied. The obtained results show that massive MIMO techniques allow for substantially reducing the interference due to the mobility and thus for having performance similar to a system without mobility.; Pour faire face à l'émergence de nouveaux besoins, le développement de la cinquième génération de standards pour la téléphonie mobile (5G) doit prendre en compte de nouvelles contraintes. Parmi celles-ci, la qualité de service pour les communications à forte vitesse, par exemple pour les trains et les voitures, doit être améliorée. Une forte mobilité crée des interférences liées à l'effet Doppler et celles-ci peuvent sévèrement affecter les performances des systèmes. Dans ce papier, l'impact de l'effet Doppler sur un système « massive MIMO » est étudié pour la voie montante. Les résultats obtenus montrent que les techniques « massive MIMO » permettent de réduire considérablement les interférences liées à la mobilité et ainsi d'avoir des performances similaires à ceux d'un système sans mobilité.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for synchronising a receiver receiving a signal corresponding to consecutive samples arranged in frames, the start of which is defined by a preamble including the repetition of a first sequence of L samples from a transmitter as well as a method for transmitting the signal. According to the invention, the preamble consists of two portions, one portion made up of the first repeated sequence and another portion made up of a second repeated sequence, the second sequence corresponding to the symmetric version of the first sequence limited to a number M of samples lower than the number L of samples.

19. DFT Precoded OFDM—An Alternative Candidate for Next Generation PONs.

Abstract

Recently, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique has been extensively studied for fiber-based optical transmissions in the context of access networks. The adaptive modulation optical (AMO) OFDM system has been proved to be one of the cost-effective solutions. Among adaptive modulation techniques, the Levin-Campello (LC) bit/power loading, which is widely implemented for xDSL systems, is shown to bring excellent performances in unamplified optical intensity modulated/direct detected (IMDD) transmissions. In this paper a novel adaptive discrete Fourier transform precoded OFDM (POFDM) is proposed and investigated. By means of numerical simulation, the proposed modulation scheme is shown to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio of the transmitted OFDM signal up to 2 dB at 10 -3 clipping rate. As a consequence, a smaller input back-off can be applied to the laser-driving current before the power amplifier, resulting in a lower power consumption of the POFDM system when compared to the conventional LC AMOOFDM system. According to simulation results, the energy consumption of the power amplifier is reduced by a factor of two in unamplified optical IMDD transmissions. Moreover, in terms of capacity-versus-reach performance, the proposed system achieves the same performance as the conventional adaptive modulation scheme. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
