Herein we describe a new species, Lysimachia quelpaertensis in Primulaceae from Jeju Island, South Korea. Lysimachia quelpaertensis differs from L. barystachys, L. fortunei, L. clethorides and L. acroadenia by having verticillate and linear-lanceolate leaves, 5 or 6 petals and 5- or 6-lobed calyx. Among the Lysimachia species, only Lysimachia quelpaertensis has verticillate leaves and white flowers.

Chromosome analysis using karyotyping and bicolor FISH were carried out in Pimpinella hallaisanensis which is one of the endemic plants in Jeju island of Korea. The somatic methaphase chromosomes number of this plant was 2n=2x=22 and the size of this chromosomes ranged from 3.58 to 5.82 ㎛. The chromosome complements consisted of two pairs of metacentrics (chromosomes 1 and 2), four pairs of submetacentrics (chromosomes 3, 4, 6 and 8) and five pairs of subtelocentrics (chromosomes 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11). Using bicolor FISH, three pairs of 5S and four pairs of 45S rDNA loci were observed. Two pairs of 5S rDNA signals were detected on the end of the long arm of chromosome 4 and one pair of them were observed between long arm end and centromere. Another 45S rDNA signals were detected on the end of short arm of chromosome 4, 6, 10 and 11, respectively. Hence, the chromosome number reexamined using both conventional staining and FISH methods was different from previous report.

제주도에서 한국 미기록과인 빌레나무과 (Maesaceae)의 빌레나무 (Maesa japonica)와 십자화과의 꼬마냉이 (Cardamine tanakae)가 채집되었다. 빌레나무과는 Maesa, 1속으로 구성된 과로서 소화경에 한 쌍의 소포엽이 있으며, 가웅예가 없고, 준자방하위이며, 다수의 종자를 갖는 폐과인 점 등으로 자금우과와 앵초과 식물과 구별된다. 빌레나무는 엽신, 화관 및 소포엽의 형태, 엽연부의 거치의 유무, 화통과 화관열편의 길이의 비율, 과실 표면의 특성 및 색깔에 의해 각각 중국, 대만 및 일본에 분포하는 M. salicifolia와 M. montana var. formosana와 뚜렷하게 구별되었다. 꼬마냉이는 경생엽의 소엽 수 및 정소엽의 크기, 한 화서에 붙는 꽃의 수, 자방 및 열매의 백색 연모의 유무의 특징에 의해 국내 고유종인 벌깨냉이 (C. glechomifolia)와 명백히 구분되었다.

Numerical analysis based on the 67 morphological characters from 28 populations of 6 species of Korean Rhus sensu lato (Anacardiaceae) was performed for the taxonomic delimitation. Based on the results of PCA with 47 quantitative characters, the sum of contributions for the total variance of three major principal components was 77,9% (PCl 35.2%, PC2 22.5% and PC3 20.2%). Two dimensional plotting from PCA results recognized six distinct species. UPGMA phenogram based on simple matching coefficient method recognized clear taxonomic delimitations among six taxa. On the cluster analysis, qualitative characters were more useful for grouping the species treated. Numerical analysis was very valuable to delimit the Korean taxa of Rhus s.l.

Plants of a genus and species previously unrecorded in Korea were collected from the hillside along a forest road at the Gwaneum peak in the Byeonsanbando National Park, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, together with plants belonging to Gramineae and Cyperaceae.Monochasma sheareri (S. Moore) Maxim, ex Franch. et Sav. (Scrophulariaceae) is most similar toM. savatieri Franch. ex Maxim., but differs distinctively in several morphological characters. WhereasM. sheareri exhibits a slender stem, and a calyx that is longer than the corolla, plants ofM. savatieri, which is distributed in Japan and China, have stout stems with glandular pilose trichomes, along with calyxes that are shorter than their corollas. In addition, seeds ofM. sheareri are elliptical, with falcate trichomes on their surfaces. This new plant has been given a Korean name, “Byeon-san-but-sal-i-pul”, based on its parasitic habit and features of its natural habitat. Here, we describe its morphological characters and provide a taxonomic key and illustrations, plus photographs of the flower, fruit, and roots.
