Abstract

We study twisted conjugacy classes of a family of groups which are called Houghton's groups $\mathcal{H}_n$ ($n \in\mathbb{N}$), the group of translations of $n$ rays of discrete points at infinity. We prove that the growth rate of an endomorphism of a finitely generated nilpotent group equals to the growth rate of induced endomorphism on its abelinization, generalizing the corresponding result for an automorphism in [14]. Abstract

Let G be a reductive algebraic group scheme defined over Fp and G1 be the first Frobenius kernel. For any dominant weight λ, one can construct the Weyl module V(λ). When p is a good prime for G, the G1-support variety of V(λ) was computed by Nakano, Parshall and Vella in [D.K. Nakano, B.J. Parshall, D.C. Vella, Support varieties for algebraic groups, J. Reine Angew. Math. 547 (2002) 15–49]. We complete this calculation by computing the G1-supports of the Weyl modules over fields of bad characteristic.

Abstract

A CW-complex X is called a [G,m]-complex if X is an m-dimensional complex with π1(X) ≅ G and the universal cover $\widetilde{X}$ is (m - 1)-connected. We show that if G has an infinite amenable normal subgroup, then the asphericity of a [G,m]-complex X is equivalent to the vanishing of L2-Euler characteristic of $\widetilde{X}$. This result corresponds to a generalization and a variation of earlier several works. Also, we show that the L2-Betti numbers of a group which belongs to the class of groups K픉 eventually vanish. As a byproduct, we give an example of a group which belongs to the class of groups H픉 but does not belong to the class of groups K픉. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The projective complete cohomological dimension of G, denoted by pccd G, is the least integer n for which Hi(G,−)≈H^i(G,−) for i>n, where H^i(G,−) is the complete cohomology of G. We study the properties of projective complete cohomological dimension of a group and then, using these, we give partial answers to three conjectures formulated by Ikenaga, Kropholler, and Talelli. Abstract

Let G be a simple algebraic group over k = ℂ, or Fp where p is good. Set g = Lie G. Given r ∈ ℕ and a faithful (restricted) representation ρ: g → gl(V), one can define a variety of nilpotent elements Nr,ρ(g) = {x ∈ g: ρ(x)r = 0}. In this paper we determine this variety when ρ is an irreducible representation of minimal dimension or the adjoint representation.
