Abstract Excessive DNA damage triggers various types of programmed cell death (PCD), yet the regulatory mechanism of DNA damage-induced cell death is not fully understood. Here, we report that PANoptosis, a coordinated PCD pathway, including pyroptosis, apoptosis and necroptosis, is activated by DNA damage. The Z-DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1) is the apical sensor of PANoptosis and essential for PANoptosome assembly in response to DNA damage. We find endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are activated by DNA damage and act as ligands for ZBP1 to trigger PANoptosis. By using ZBP1 knock-out and knock-in mice disrupting ZBP1 nucleic acid-binding activity, we demonstrate that ZBP1-mediated PANoptosis contributes to the toxic effects of chemotherapeutic drugs, which is dependent on ZBP1 nucleic acid-binding activity. We found that ZBP1 expression is downregulated in tumor tissue. Furthermore, in colorectal cancer patients, dsRNA is induced by chemotherapy and sensed by ZBP1 in normal colonic tissues, suggesting ZBP1-mediated PANoptosis is activated by chemotherapy in normal tissues. Our findings indicate that ZBP1-mediated PANoptosis is activated by DNA damage and contributes to the toxic side effects of DNA-damage-based chemotherapy. These data suggest that ZBP1 could be a promising therapeutic target to alleviate chemotherapy-related side effects.

To assess the feasibility of percutaneous pedicle screw fixation assisted by a fully automated orthopedic robotic system for the treatment of isthmic spondylolisthesis and evaluate its early postoperative outcome. Totally 20 patients with isthmic spondylolisthesis who underwent surgical procedure by the same medical group from March 2020 to March 2023 were retrospectively analyzed, including 10 patients in the robot-assisted group (RA group) and the other 10 patients in the conventional free-hand technique group (FH group). Accuracy of screw insertion was determined using the Gertzbein-Robbins Scale. The accuracy of the novel robotic system was evaluated by comparing the screw position in the preoperative planning and measuring the entry point deviation distance and the trajectory rotation. The differences in operative time, intraoperative blood loss, radiographic fluoroscopy time and fluoroscopic dosage, and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups. The lumbar visual analog scale scores before and 7 days after operation were analyzed to evaluate the improvement of low back pain as the early postoperative outcome. A total of 84 pedicle screws were placed. In the RA group, 97.5% of screws were Grade A, and 2.5% were Grade B. In the FH group, 88.6% of screws were Grade A, 9.1% were Grade B, and 2.3% were Grade C. No statistical difference was found in the operation time between two groups. The RA group showed a significant reduction in intraoperative blood loss, radiographic fluoroscopy time and fluoroscopic dosage, and length of hospital stay compared to the FH group. The low back pain in both groups was significantly improved after the operation. The novel orthopedic robotic system-assisted percutaneous pedicle screw fixation, with accurate intraoperative screw placement, less surgical damage, less fluoroscopy and shorter length of hospital stay, can be safe and effective for the surgical treatment of isthmic spondylolisthesis.

Male infertility (MI) and male sexual dysfunction (MSD) can often coexist together due to various interplay factors such as psychosexual, sociocultural and relationship dynamics. The presence of each form of MSD can adversely impact male reproduction and treatment strategies will need to be individualized based on patients’ factors, local expertise, and geographical socioeconomic status. The Asia Pacific Society of Sexual Medicine (APSSM) and the Asian Society of Men’s Health and Aging (ASMHA) aim to provide a consensus statement and practical set of clinical recommendations based on current evidence to guide clinicians in the management of MI and MSD within the Asia-Pacific (AP) region. A comprehensive, narrative review of the literature was performed to identify the various forms of MSD and their association with MI. MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched for the following English language articles under the following terms: “low libido”, “erectile dysfunction”, “ejaculatory dysfunction”, “premature ejaculation”, “retrograde ejaculation”, “delayed ejaculation”, “anejaculation”, and “orgasmic dysfunction” between January 2001 to June 2022 with emphasis on published guidelines endorsed by various organizations. This APSSM consensus committee panel evaluated and provided evidence-based recommendations on MI and clinically relevant MSD areas using a modified Delphi method by the panel and specific emphasis on locoregional socioeconomic- cultural issues relevant to the AP region. While variations exist in treatment strategies for managing MI and MSD due to geographical expertise, locoregional resources, and sociocultural factors, the panel agreed that comprehensive fertility evaluation with a multidisciplinary management approach to each MSD domain is recommended. It is important to address individual MI issues with an emphasis on improving spermatogenesis and facilitating reproductive avenues while at the same time, managing various MSD conditions with evidence-based treatments. All therapeutic options should be discussed and implemented based on the patient’s individual needs, beliefs and preferences while incorporating locoregional expertise and available resources.

Tumor microenvironment (TME) immune cells and gastric mucosal microbiome constitute two vital elements of tumor tissue. Increasing evidence has elucidated their clinicopathological significance in predicting outcomes and therapeutic efficacy. However, comprehensive characterization of immune cell-associated microbiome signatures in the TME is still in the early stages of development. Here, we characterized the gastric mucosa microbiome and its associations with immune-activated related transcripts (IATs) in 170 GC tumor tissues and matched non-tumor tissues using 16s rRNA gene sequencing and quantitative reverse transcription-PCR. Microbial diversity and richness were significantly higher in GC tumor tissues than in non-tumor tissues. Differences in microbial composition between the groups were evident, with Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, Campilobacterota, Actinobacteria, Fusobacteriota, Verrucomicrobiota, Acidobacteriota, and Cyanobacteria being the dominant phyla in the gastric mucosal microbiota. Microbial interaction network analysis revealed distinctive centralities of oral bacteria (such as Fusobacterium, Porphyromonas, Prevotella, etc.) in both tumor and normal mucosae networks, suggesting their significant influence on GC microbial ecology. Furthermore, we analyzed the expression of IATs (CXCL9, CXCL10, GZMA, GZMB, PRF1, CD8A, IFNG, TBX2, and TNF) and characterized IAT-relevant gastric microbiome signatures in GC patients. Our results showed that the expression of CXCL9, CXCL10, GZMA, GZMB, PRF1 and IFNG was significantly higher in tumor tissues than in adjacent normal tissues in GC patients. Notably, high expression of IATs in tumor tissues was associated with improved survival in GC patients and could serve as a powerful predictor for disease-free survival. Additionally, analysis of IAT levels and mucosal microbiota diversity revealed a correlation between higher IAT expression and increased microbiota richness and evenness in the IATs high group, suggesting potential interactions between mucosal microbiota and tumor immunopathology. Spearman correlation analysis showed positive associations between IAT expression and specific mucosal bacterial species. Notably, Akkermansia muciniphila demonstrated potential involvement in modulating GZMB expression in the GC mucosal microenvironment. These findings underscore the importance of mucosal microbiota alterations in GC and suggest potential therapeutic targets focusing on modulating the tumor microbiota for improved clinical outcomes. The detailed characterization of these elements has profound implications for both treatment and survival prediction in GC. We observed that microbial diversity and richness were significantly higher in GC tumor tissues compared to non-tumor tissues. These differences highlight the unique microbial landscape of GC tumors and suggest that the microbiome could influence tumor development and progression. Importantly, our study demonstrated that high expression levels of IATs in GC tumor tissues were associated with improved patient survival. This suggests that IATs not only reflect immune activation but also serve as valuable biomarkers for predicting disease-free survival. The potential of IATs as predictive markers underscores their utility in guiding therapeutic strategies and personalizing treatment approaches. Moreover, the correlation between higher IAT expression and increased microbiota richness and evenness suggests that a diverse and balanced microbiome may enhance immune responses and contribute to better clinical outcomes. These findings highlight the critical need to consider mucosal microbiota alterations in GC management. Targeting the tumor microbiota could emerge as a promising therapeutic strategy, potentially leading to more effective treatments and improved patient outcomes. Understanding and modulating the microbiome’s role in GC opens new avenues for innovative therapeutic interventions and personalized medicine.

ObjectiveTo explore the risk factors of capillary leakage syndrome in patients with acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (AOPP), in order to provide reference for clinical screening and intervention timing.MethodsThe clinical manifestations, auxiliary examination and prognosis of AOPP patients admitted in Fuyang People's Hospital from November 2020 to June 2022 were prospectively analyzed, and the patients were divided into non-CLS group and CLS group based on the presence or absence of capillary leak syndrome (CLS). Patients were admitted to hospital as the starting point, and death or discharge as the endpoint. Multiple Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the risk factors of AOPP complicated with CLS.ResultsA total of 38 AOPP patients were included, of which 17 (44.7%) were complicated with CLS. There were statistical differences in age (P=0.015), blood concentration of dichlorvos (P=0.001), blood concentration of dipterex(P < 0.001), creatinine (P < 0.001) and APACHEⅡ score (P < 0.001) between non-CLS group and CLS group. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that blood concentration of dipterex ≥0.44 μg/mL and APACHEⅡ score≥10.5 were independent risk factors for AOPP complicated with CLS. The mortality rate of CLS group was higher than that of CLS group (P < 0.001).ConclusionsPatients with AOPP are more likely to be complicated by CLS, and the mortality rate is higher. High-risk patients can be identified early by dipterex blood concentration and APACHE Ⅱ score, and early intervention can be carried out to improve the prognosis of patients.

Abstract Treatment of bone defects remains crucial challenge for successful bone healing, which arouses great interests in designing and fabricating ideal biomaterials. In this regard, the present study focuses on developing a novel fluffy scaffold of poly Lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) composites with hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffold used in bone defect repair in rabbits. This fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold was fabricated by using multi-electro-spinning combined with biomineralization technology. In vitro analysis of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) seeded onto fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold showed their ability to adhere, proliferate and cell viability. Transplant of fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold in a rabbit model showed a significant increase in mineralized tissue production compared to conventional and fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold. These findings are promising for fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffolds used in bone defects. Graphical Abstract

Objective: A trans-critical CO2 refrigeration system with ejector is proposed and its performance factors are studied. Methods: In this paper, energy and exergic system model combined with experiment method were used to study the impact of the change of major parameters on traditional and new refrigeration systems. Results: In a given working condition, exergy efficiency of the compressor increased by 11.08% when an injector replaced the throttle valve, while the power of the compressor decreased by 6.04% and the performance factor increased by 11.1%. The optimum gas cooler pressure was found to maximize the system performance. In addition, the exergic damage of the system components was optimized in this paper. Conclusion: The ejector of the new system has great potential for optimization, and the outlet temperature of the gas cooler has the greatest influence on the performance of the ejector.

Abstract In this paper, the problem of harmonic coupling between the converter transformer and the converter under the action of geomagnetically induced current (GIC) is proposed to be investigated. Firstly, a model of a 12‐pulse line commutated converter high voltage direct current (LCC‐HVDC) converter station based on harmonic state space (HSS) theory is established. Secondly, the harmonic components of the interaction between the AC‐side harmonic current and the DC‐side harmonic voltage are qualitatively analyzed by using the harmonic modulation theory. Through the simulation model and harmonic state space (HSS) calculation model, the harmonic coupling characteristics of power grid are analyzed. Finally, the harmonic current and voltage amplitude of AC / DC power grid under different GIC are calculated, and the characteristics and rules of AC / DC harmonic propagation are revealed. Among them, the amplitude of the 2nd harmonic current on the AC side and the 3rd harmonic current on the DC side increases linearly with the GIC. In addition, the 3rd and 9th harmonics on the AC side are also greatly affected by the magnetic bias of the converter.

Objective To evaluate the impact of the 'point to downstream hospital multi-department' emergency medical consortium model between Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) and Beijing Longfu Hospital on the treatment of critically ill patients. Methods Clinical data of ICU patients at Beijing Longfu Hospital from December 2018 to November 2020 were retrospectively collected. The patients were categorized into two groups based on whether the emergency medical consortium was established: the pre-establishment group (December 2018 to November 2019) and the post-establishment group (December 2019 to November 2020). Clinical data, disease spectrum, examination/treatment utilization, and in-hospital mortality were compared between the two groups. Results A total of 350 ICU patients meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in this study. The pre-establishment group comprised 126 patients, while the post-establishment group had 224 patients(including 162 transferred via the consortium). In the pre-establishment group, the disease spectrum primarily consisted of common critical illnesses, with the top three diseases being acute cardiovascular diseases (34.1%), severe pneumonia (25.4%), and post-surgical cases (19.0%). In the post-establishment group, there was a greater diversity in the disease spectrum, with the top three diseases being severe pneumonia (31.2%), renal dysfunction (13.8%), and acute cerebrovascular disease (9.8%). Compared to the pre-establishment group, the post-establishment group had a lower average age [68.50(57.00, 79.00) years vs. 78.00(68.25, 84.00) years, P < 0.001], higher acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ score [18.00(14.00, 24.00) points vs. 15.00(12.00, 22.75) points, P=0.005] and sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score [5.00(3.00, 7.25) points vs. 3.00(2.00, 6.00) points, P < 0.001], higher rates of central venous catheterization (52.7% vs. 20.6%, P < 0.001), continuous renal replacement therapy(22.3% vs. 4.0%, P < 0.001), vasoactive drug use (21.4% vs. 11.9%, P=0.037), and epinephrine usage (17.0% vs. 7.1%, P=0.015), and hospital stay [(11.61±9.41)days vs. (10.06±7.63)days, P=0.260], hospital costs [(18 982.35(9251.80, 51 677.59) CNY vs. 39 113.11(19 500.03, 68 981.90) CNY, P=0.067], and in-hospital mortality (12.1% vs. 10.3%, P=0.753) showed no significant changes. Furthermore, after the establishment of the emergency medical consortium, the ICU of Beijing Longfu Hospital admitted and treated 25 cases of difficult-to-treat patients (no difficult-to-treat patients were seen before the establishment of the emergency medical consortium) and used a number of new technologies, including bedside bronchoscopy in 9 cases and bedside ultrasound examination in 105 cases. Multivariable Logistic regression analysis results indicated that after adjusting for factors such as age and SOFA score, the establishment of the emergency medical consortium had no significant impact on in-hospital mortality among ICU patients (OR=0.994, 95% CI: 0.401-2.464, P=0.990). Conclusions After the establishment of the 'point to downstream hospital multi-department' emergency medical consortium between PUMCH and Beijing Longfu Hospital, the complexity and severity of diseases treated in Beijing Longfu Hospital's ICU increased, but the in-hospital mortality rate did not significantly rise. The emergency medical consortium model may contribute to enhancing the capacity for treating critically ill patients in downstream hospitals.

Efficient trivalent actinides/lanthanides(Am3+/Ln3+) separation is one of the key components of advanced nuclear fuel cycle. Owing to their similar chemical behavior in condensed phase, it remains a challenge to adopt traditional liquid-liquid extraction techniques. The strategy of separating Am by oxidizing Am(Ⅲ) to its penta- and hexa-valent states has the benefit of high efficiency and large space of improvement and is attracting growing attention. The obstacle to adopt this strategy is the high oxidation potential, which impedes the efficient conversion of Am(Ⅲ) to Am(Ⅴ,Ⅵ) under mild conditions, and the low stability of high oxidation states of Am. This poses two questions to solve: (1) how to minimize the oxidation potential of Am? (2) how to stabilize Am in its high oxidation state? In this work, we surveyed the advances in the chemical and electrochemical oxidation of Am towards its separation from lanthanides. In its chemical oxidation, copper(Ⅲ) periodate was identified as a superior oxidants over bismuthate and persulfate in view of its high oxidizing power and high yield of Am(Ⅴ,Ⅵ). In its electrochemical oxidation, functionalization of electrode by appropriate ligands can significantly decrease the oxidation potential of Am and increase the overpotential of water, which circumvents the side reactions, e.g. oxidation of water. These results provide insights for the design and optimization of novel protocols for Am/Ln separation, and calls for improved understanding of the underlying mechanisms to stimulate extensive advances of efficient Am/Ln separation.

ObjectiveTo analyze and compare the vestibular function of posterior canal cupulolithiasis and canalolithiasis.MethodsThe results of posterior cupulolithiasis in 45 cases, posterior canalolithiasis in 122 cases and 19 healthy controls were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsThe abnormal rates of vHIT in the canalolithiasis group and the cupulolithiasis group were 42.6 and 37.8%, respectively, both higher than those in the control group (both p 0.05). 84.4% of canalolithiasis and 65.0% of cupulolithiasis had abnormal VEMP results, with no significant differences in abnormality rates or sides (both p > 0.05). Abnormal results of VEMPs did not show any correlation with side (p > 0.05). The results of pc-ca and pc-cu were both abnormal in 14 cases and 7 cases, and there was no correlation between the site and side of the injury (all p > 0.05).ConclusionThe results of vHIT and VEMP in pc-cu and pc-ca were partially abnormal, but they did not show any correlation with side of BPPV. It can be considered that there are scattered vestibular peripheral organ damage in both groups.

Abstract Aim To explore the impact of the Omicron variant on maternal and neonatal outcomes. Design Cross‐sectional cohort study of women giving live birth in a single hospital in Shanghai in December 2022. Methods Demographic characteristics, maternal and neonatal outcomes and laboratory testing results were retrieved from medical records. Propensity score matching was used to match COVID‐19‐positive and ‐negative women. Differential analysis was used to assess associations between COVID‐19 and in‐hospital maternal and neonatal outcomes. Results A total of 1508 women were included, comprising 729 natural births, 741 caesarean sections and 38 forceps deliveries. After 1:1 matching, 310 clients were included for analysis with each 155 in COVID‐19‐positive and ‐negative groups. This paper explores the theory and practice characteristics of management accounting, expands upon the function of management accounting, and outlines the business process of strategic management accounting. Then, it constructs the functional effect analysis model of management accounting, establishes the causality analysis model of the structural equation, explores the markov property of the equation, and uses multiple linear regression equations to estimate the regression parameters. Finally, it analyzes the correlation between the overall level of strategic management accounting, the application level of management accounting, and the horizontal integration level of management accounting and enterprise performance. According to regression analysis, the three dimensions have a significant positive correlation with enterprise performance at the 1% level. The structural equation analysis indicates that the path coefficient of management accounting on performance is 0.388, which is significant at a 1% level. The application of management accounting can have a positive impact on the performance level of enterprises, as shown. This research promotes the innovative practice of management accounting and is of great significance for the high-quality development of enterprises.

Objective To test the reliability and validity of the Ruminative Responses Scale (RRS) in Chinese military personnel. Methods A total of 4 443 military personnel from 2 brigades in the Northern Theater Command were tested using Ruminative Responses scale(RRS), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and Negative Cognitive Processing Bias Questionnaire (NCPBQ). SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 26.0 were used for reliability and validity analysis. Results ① The 3-dimension model fitting indexes of RRS were within the standard range (RMSEA=0.074, GFI=0.887, RMR=0.018, CFI=0.922, IFI=0.922). ② All the scores for each item and factor of RRS showed significant positive correlations with the total score of the questionnaire (r=0.372~0.977, P < 0.01). ③ The correlation coefficients between each factor of RRS and PHQ-9 were 0.604~0.730, and those between each factor of RRS and NCPBQ were 0.615~0.741. ④ It was found that the Cronbach'α coefficients of the RRS were between 0.821 and 0.956, the split-half coefficients were between 0.845 and 0.918, the test-retest coefficients were between 0.671 and 0.894. Conclusion RRS is of high reliability and validity for measurement among military personnel.

Molecular imprinting technology is a kind of technology that simulates the interaction between enzyme - substrate or antibody - antigen and synthesizes artificial receptors with specific recognition performance using target as template. In the early stage， the research objects were mostly small organic molecules including pesticides and veterinary drugs， and biological macromolecules including proteins. In recent years， researches have been extended to super-large "molecules" -cells， especially bacterial imprinting with a broad application prospect in the field of rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria. This paper introduces the principle of molecular imprinting technology， the selection of bacterial imprinting template and the preparation method of imprinted polymers. The application of molecular imprinting technology in the detection of pathogenic bacteria is summarized. Finally， the application prospect of molecular imprinting technology in the detection of pathogenic bacteria is discussed.

Objective To investigate the role of miRNAs in pathogenesis of ventricular septal defect. Methods The miRNAs differential expression in whole blood samples from ventricular septal defect (VSD) group and normal group was analyzed by miRNAs expression microarray experiment and the target genes were predicted by biological information databases miRbase, Targetscan and Miranda. Target gene signaling pathways were screened through KEGG and REACTOME pathway databases, the transcription and protein expression of key genes in key signaling pathways were detected by RT-qPCR and Western blot. Results A total of 22 cases of differentially expressed miRNA were obtained in the experiment, and 12 744 target genes were predicted. A total of 126 pathways were found and the MAPK pathway, which was closely related to heart development, and was deeply analyzed. Among them, the transcription and protein expression of RASA1 and NF1 in ERK pathway were significantly increased (P＜0.05), the transcription and protein expression of RAS were significantly decreased(P＜0.05), and the expression levels of ERK and MEK1 phosphorylated proteins were also significantly decreased(P＜0.05); the transcription and protein expression of TNF, TNFRSF1A and TRAF2 in the p38/MAPK sub-pathway were significantly increased(P＜0.05), the expression of p38 phosphorylated proteins was significantly increased(P＜0.05), The transcrip-tion, total protein and phosphorylated protein expression of MEF2C were significantly increased(P＜0.05). The above pathways were found to be regulated by 12 miRNA. Conclusions The abnormal expression of 22 differentially expressed miRNAs leads to a variety of known cardiac development-related gene expression disorders. Among them, 12 abnormally expressed miRNAs inhibit the ERK pathway and thus inhibit the differentiation of cardiomyocytes and over-activate the expression of p38/MAPK pathway to promote the abnormal apoptosis of cardiomyocytes, and ultimately lead to the occurrence of VSD.

Perioperative hyperglycemia is a common metabolic disorder in the clinic. Hyperglycemia, via upregulation of E74-like ETS transcription factor 3 (ELF3), induces cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expressions, thus leading to endothelial apoptosis and vascular endothelial injury. Propofol is a widely used anesthetic. In the present study, we explored whether and how propofol protects against high glucose-induced COX2 and iNOS expressions in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). We found that high glucose level decreases cell viability and increases COX2 and iNOS expressions in HUVECs. Our data also indicated that ELF3 overexpression participates in high glucose-mediated cell viability reduction and high glucose-induced COX2 and iNOS expressions. Moreover, propofol treatment improves high glucose-mediated reduction in cell viability and decreases COX2 and iNOS expressions via inhibition of ELF3 expressions. Furthermore, specificity protein 1 (SP1) was found to regulate ELF3 expression, thus mediating endothelial injury. Propofol inhibits high glucose-induced SP1 expression. High glucose increases the abundance of SP1 bound to the ELF3 promoter, which can be reversed by propofol treatment. The protective effect of propofol is reversed by SP1 overexpression. In conclusion, propofol downregulates high glucose-induced SP1 expression, thus attenuating high glucose-induced ELF3 expression, inhibiting high glucose-induced COX2 and iNOS expressions, and improving high glucose-mediated cell viability reduction in HUVECs.

Background: Open and endoscopic thoracic surgeries improve surgical exposure by One-lung ventilation (OLV). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different doses of dexmedetomidine on inflammatory response, oxidative stress, cerebral tissue oxygen saturation (SctO2) and intrapulmonary shunt in patients undergoing one-lung ventilation (OLV). Methods: Seventy-five patients undergoing open pulmonary lobectomy in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were enrolled and randomly divided into high-dose dexmedetomidine group (group D1, 1 mg/kg, n=25), low-dose dexmedetomidine group (group D2, 0.5 mg/kg, n=25) and control group (group C, n=25). Then, arterial blood and internal jugular venous blood were taken before anesthesia induction (T0) and at 15 min after twolung ventilation (T1) and 5 min (T2) and 30 min (T3) after OLV for later use. Next, the changes in hemodynamic parameters [mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR) and pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2)] of patients were observed in each group. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was carried out to detect serum inflammatory factors such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) and oxidative stress indicators [superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA)]. The changes in SctO2, arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) and intrapulmonary shunt Qs/Qt (a measurement of pulmonary shunt: right-to-left shunt fraction) were observed. Additionally, the changes in lung function indicators like lung dynamic compliance (Cdyn) and airway peak pressure (Ppeak) were determined. Mitophagy affects the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Mitochondria-targeted ubiquinone (MitoQ) is a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant that reduces the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, its relationship with mitophagy remains unclear. This study evaluated mitophagy during HSC activation and the effects of MitoQ on mitophagy in cell culture and in an animal model of the activation of HSCs. We found that MitoQ reduced the activation of HSCs and alleviated hepatic fibrosis. PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1) is a putative serine/threonine kinase located in the mitochondria’s outer membrane. While the activation of primary HSCs or LX-2 cells was associated with reduced PINK1/parkin-mediated mitophagy, MitoQ reduced intracellular ROS levels, enhanced PINK1/parkin-mediated mitophagy, and inhibited the activation of HSCs. After knocking down the key mitophagy-related protein, PINK1, in LX-2 cells to block mitophagy, MitoQ intervention failed to inhibit HSC activation. Our results showed that MitoQ inhibited the activation of HSCs and alleviated hepatic fibrosis by enhancing PINK1/parkin-mediated mitophagy.

A path in an edge-colored graph G is called a rainbow path if no two edges on the path have the same color. The graph G is called rainbow connected if between every pair of distinct vertices of G, there is a rainbow path. Recently, Johnson et al. considered this concept with the additional requirement that the coloring of G is proper. The proper rainbow connection number of G, denoted by prc(G), is the minimum number of colors needed to properly color the edges of G so that G is rainbow connected. Similarly, the proper strong rainbow connection number of G, denoted by psrc(G), is the minimum number of colors needed to properly color the edges of G such that for any two distinct vertices of G, there is a rainbow geodesic (shortest path) connecting them. In this paper, we characterize those graphs with proper rainbow connection numbers equal to the size or within 1 of the size. Moreover, we completely solve a question proposed by Johnson et al. by proving that if G = Kp1Kpn, where n≥ 1, and p1, . . . , pn>1 are integers, then prc(G) = psrc(G) = χ′(G), where χ′(G) denotes the chromatic index of G. Finally, we investigate some su cient conditions for a graph G to satisfy prc(G) = rc(G), and make some slightly positive progress by using a relation between rc(G) and the girth of the graph.

A solar heat pump heating system with an aluminum tubular collector is proposed in this paper. Mathematical models are established for solar energy absorption and air energy absorption of the aluminum tubular collector, as well as the heat-absorption coefficient of the working substance. The electronic expansion valve is controlled via the fuzzy PID method to adjust the working substance flow rate, as well as to control the evaporator overheating and set the indoor heating temperature. TRNSYS is used to analyze the effects of the wind speed, solar radiation amount, environment temperature, and working substance flow rate on the heat transfer performance of the aluminum tubular collector. The results indicate that the heat transfer performance of the aluminum tubular collector is significantly affected not only by the solar radiation but also the wind speed. For wind speed > 2 m/s, the absorbed power of the collector increases rapidly with an increase in the wind speed; when the working-medium flow rate reaches 4 m/s, the collector absorption power tends to be saturated. Subsequently, an experimental heating system with a heating area of 170 m2 is constructed. Experiments revealed that the maximum coefficient of performance (COP) of the heating system is 4.46, and the average COP value is 3.95, indicating good heating effect.

Abstract Purpose To compare the specificity and sensitivity of preoperative D-dimer and age-adjusted D-dimer value for predicting the incidence of the DVT preoperatively in total joint arthroplasty (TJA) patients. Methods We enrolled 406 patients finally above 50 years old. Everyone had done ultrasonography bedside, and D-dimer concentrations were collected before surgery. The D-dimer and age-adjusted D-dimer cut-off was calculated by multiple logistic regression and receiver operating curve (ROC) analyses. Results A total of 39 patients had found asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by ultrasonography. The age (odds ratio [OR] 1.067; p = 0.003) and D-dimer (OR 1.331; p = 0.025) were related to the existence of DVT. For conventional D-dimer and age-adjusted D-dimer value, the area under the curves (AUCs) were 0.685 (0.499–0.696) and 0.795 (0.611–0.881), respectively. Conclusion Compared to traditional D-dimer, age-adjusted D-dimer showed better performance in screening DVT, which was useful clinically.

The beneficial effect of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) on completely resected pathological IIIA-N2 (pIIIA-N2) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been a subject of interest with controversy. The aim of the study was to distinguish the clinical efficacy of PORT on lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) among pIIIA-N2 NSCLC.

Body size is one of the most economically important traits of dairy cattle, as it is significantly associated with cow longevity, production, health, fertility, and environmental adaptation. The identification and application of genetic variants using a novel genetic approach, such as genome-wide association studies (GWASs), may give more insights into the genetic architecture of complex traits. The identification of genes, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and pathways associated with the body size traits may offer a contribution to genomic selection and long-term planning for selection in dairy cows. In this study, we performed GWAS analysis to identify the genetic markers and genes associated with four body size traits (body height, body depth, chest width, and angularity) in 1000 Chinese Holstein cows. We performed SNPs genotyping in 1000 individuals, based on the GeneSeek Genomic Profiler Bovine 100 K. In total, we identified 11 significant SNPs in association with body size traits at the threshold of Bonferroni correction (5.90 × 10−7) using the fixed and random model circulating probability unification (FarmCPU) model. Several genes within 200 kb distances (upstream or downstream) of the significant SNPs were identified as candidate genes, including MYH15, KHDRBS3, AIP, DCC, SQOR, and UBAP1L. Moreover, genes within 200 kb of the identified SNPs were significantly enriched (p ≤ 0.05) in 25 Gene Ontology terms and five Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways. We anticipate that these results provide a foundation for understanding the genetic architecture of body size traits. They will also contribute to breeding programs and genomic selection work on Chinese Holstein cattle.

A graph is said to be total-colored if all the edges and the vertices of the graph are colored. A total-coloring of a graph is a total monochromatically-connecting coloring (TMC-coloring, for short) if any two vertices of the graph are connected by a path whose edges and internal vertices have the same color. For a connected graph G, the total monochromatic connection number, denoted by tmc(G), is defined as the maximum number of colors used in a TMC-coloring of G. In this paper, we study two kinds of Erdős-Gallai-type problems for tmc(G) and completely solve them.

Carbonized nano-Co3O4 particles and diatomite were used for preparation of the composite of carbonized nano-Co3O4/diatomite by pyrolysis method, the magnetic and absorption properties were studied. The composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer. The results show that the superparamagnetic nano-Co3O4 particles with average size of 50nm and amorphous activated carbon are uniformly dispersed in the surface and pores of diatomite to form a stable composite.
