Brass sheet is added into the joining location in friction stir welding (FSW). Brass reinforced Al matrix composite is then formed in the FSW nugget zone with brass. A new microstructure based mechanical property model is proposed to predict both the microstructural evolutions and mechanical property changes in FSW with brass. The discrepancy between the numerical and experimental data is 0.77% for temperature, 2.2% for average grain size, and 6.4% for hardness. The change of temperature is very small in comparison of FSW and FSW with brass. However, compared to FSW, the hardness is obviously increased and the average grain size is decreased by 34.8% in FSW with brass in the nugget zone due to the pinning effect from the broken brass particles. The process parameters can be numerically tested to find the optimal design for experiment.

Early weaning-induced stress precipitates diarrhoea, significantly curtailing the growth performance of piglets. A pivotal contributor to this postweaning affliction is the emergence of gut bacterial dysbiosis. Enterococcus hirae, a promising probiotic, has indicated unclear effects and mechanisms on intestinal health. In this study, we investigated the effects and underlying mechanisms of oral supplementation with Ningxiang pig-derived Enterococcus hirae HNAU0516 orally supplementation on the gut bacterial community, immune response and gut barrier function in piglets. 21 d age Duroc × (Landrace × Yorkshire) piglets with a similar BW were randomly allocated to two groups. The Enterococcus hirae HNAU0516 administration group was inoculated orally with Ningxiang pig-derived Enterococcus hirae HNAU0516 throughout the trial period. Conversely, the control group received the same volume of physiological saline. Our findings revealed that Enterococcus hirae HNAU0516 supplementation effectively reduced diarrhoea rates of piglets (P = 0.010). Notably, this probiotic promoted intestinal development and enhanced intestinal barrier function. It also showed potential anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, Enterococcus hirae HNAU0516 supplementation significantly remodelled the colonic microbiota and increased the production of acetate (P = 0.007). In conclusion, our study highlights that Ningxiang pig-derived Enterococcus hirae HNAU0516 improves postweaning diarrhoea by promoting intestinal development, enhancing intestinal barrier function, decreasing intestinal permeability, modulating intestinal microbiota, and increasing short-chain fatty acids production.

This paper reports the recent observation of a weakly coherent mode (WCM) within a conventional reflectometer on EAST and successfully determines its poloidal wavenumber range. During the transition from the L-mode to I-mode, the line-averaged density remains nearly unchanged while a significant change is observed in the electron cyclotron emission (ECE) signals at the boundary. The difference between the signals for the two channels at the edge increased, coinciding with the appearance of the WCM and a simultaneous rise in the boundary electron temperature. Further investigation unveiled the modulating role of edge temperature ring oscillation (ETRO) (Liu et al 2020 Nucl. Fusion 60 126016) on high-frequency density fluctuations. Statistical results unveil an inverse relationship between the centeral frequency of the WCM and q _95 . Simulation results provide additional insights, demonstrating that the simulated ‘WCM’ in the density fluctuations aligns with experimental data in terms of center frequency. Additionally, the radial distribution of the simulated ‘WCM’ closely corresponds to regions with the strongest electron temperature gradients. Finally, through a cross-correlation analysis of the simulated fluctuations, the following phase relationship for the wavenumber range of ‘WCM’ was observed: $\alpha_{\widetilde{T}_e} \gt \alpha_{\widetilde{n}_i}\sim\alpha_{\widetilde{\phi}} \gt \alpha_{\widetilde{T}_i}$ .

To study the biological function of activity of bcl complex (ABC1) proteins in Lepidium apetalum Willd., genes encoding ABC1 family proteins were identified from the seed transcriptome. The sequence most closely related to germination at a low temperature was selected and gene expressions in response to low temperature stress further studied. The results show that 21 ABC1 genes were expressed in seeds germinating at the low temperature: 4 genes were upregulated, 6 were downregulated, and 11 were not significantly different from controls. The results of fluorescence quantification of the low-temperature stress on the seedlings of 7-d-old L. apetalum showed that seven genes were up-regulated, six genes were down-regulated, and eight genes had no significant difference. Real-time quantitative PCR results show that under the low temperature stress, the expression of the LaAbc1-3 gene increased, but its expression decreased after some time. The expression of this gene increased again after removing the low temperature stress. The expression of LaAbc1-21 gene in L. apetalum seedlings showed a trend of decreasing first and then increasing. The LaAbc1-3 gene was insensitive to salt stress. Expression of the LaAbc1-21 gene was significantly up-regulated during the salt stress. Under osmotic stress, the expression of the LaAbc1-3 gene was down-regulated, and the expression was negatively correlated with polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) concentration. Under the PEG-6000 treatment, the expression of the LaAbc1-21 gene was significantly up-regulated, and the expression was positively correlated with concentration. These results provide a basis for further analysis of the role of the ABC1 genes in the stress resistance of L. apetalum.

To study the biological function of late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins in Lepidium apetalum Willd., genes encoding LEA family proteins were identified from the seed transcriptome. The sequence most closely related to germination at a low temperature was selected and gene expressions in response to low temperature stress further studied. The results show that 27 LEA genes were expressed in seeds germinating at the low temperature: 3 genes were upregulated, 20 were downregulated, and 4 were not significantly different from controls. The most prominent of the upregulated genes, LaLEA1, contained an open reading frame of 624 bp and encoded 208 amino acids. The protein was rich in hydrophilic amino acids including threonine, alanine, glutamine, and lysine. It is predicted that the secondary structure contains α-helices and irregular curls. Real-time quantitative PCR results show that under low temperature stress, the expression of LaLEA1 was first downregulated and then upregulated rapidly, reaching its highest expression at 12 h, then the expression of LaLEA1 was reduced slightly but maintained higher than that of the non-stress group. As the expression of LaLEA1 was significantly altered in response to low temperature stress, we investigated the expression of LaLEA1 also in response to other abiotic stresses, i.e., salinity and drought. L. apetalum seedlings wilted in the early stage following NaCl or osmotic (polyethylene glycol) stresses, but recovered quickly, showing a strong tolerance. Real-time quantitative PCR results show that LaLEA1 was rapidly upregulated following salt and osmotic stresses, and its expression profile was closely related to NaCl or PEG concentrations. Expression was up to 7.9-fold higher than that of the control after 6 h of salt stress. These results suggest that L. apetalum seedlings responded quickly to salt stress. The response to osmotic stress was slightly slower; expression of LaLEA1 was 6.0-fold higher than that of the control after 12 h. Thus, LaLEA1 played an important role in abiotic stress tolerance. These results provide a basis for further analysis of the role of the LEA genes in the stress resistance of L. apetalum.

The improved energy confinement mode (I-mode) is widely considered as an important operation regime for ITER. I-mode implementation depends on the specified basic plasma parameters and certain operation conditions, which are discovered by statistical plasma characteristics from a large number of I-mode discharges on a tokamak. The extraction process of I-mode plasma characteristics is complicated, time-consuming, and limited to the sampling rate of the measured signals. Experimental observation of the I-mode is accompanied by the appearance of a weakly coherent mode (WCM). However, it takes much time to accurately scan and quantify WCM characteristics when analyzing many I-mode discharges. Recently, a neural network identification method was developed as an I-mode detector to traverse a whole database as a replacement for manual identification. Two fully connected neural network models were trained with the spectrum of propagation velocity of density perturbation from Doppler backward scattering and the electron density measured by a polarimeter-interferometer system with the experimental advanced superconducting tokamak I-mode database. An accuracy of 98.30% in identifying WCMs in I-mode discharges is achieved with the WCM classification model. In addition, the regime classification model was also utilized to successfully distinguish between the low confinement mode (L-mode), I-mode, and high confinement mode (H-mode) with 96.03% accuracy. Finally, ablation experiments were performed on the regime classifiers, showing that there is potential for further performance improvement with future use of RNN model.

Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) is a secreted protein that regulates lipid, glucose and energy metabolism. This study was conducted to better understand the effect of ANGPTL3 on important economic traits in cattle. First, transcript profiles for ANGPTL3 were measured in nine different Jiaxian cattle tissues. Second, polymorphisms were identified in the complete coding region and promoter region of the bovine ANGPTL3 gene in 707 cattle samples. Finally, an association study was carried out utilizing these single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to determine the effect of these SNPs on the growth and meat quality traits. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis showed that ANGPTL3 was mainly expressed in the liver. The promoter of the bovine ANGPTL3 contained several putative transcription factor binding sites (SF1, HNF-1, LXRα, NFκβ, HNF-3 and C/EBP). In total, four SNPs of the bovine ANGPTL3 gene were identified by direct sequencing. SNP1 (rs469906272: g.−38T>C) was identified in the promoter, SNP2 (rs451104723:g.104A>T) and SNP3 (rs482516226: g.509A>G) were identified in exon 1, and SNP4 (rs477165942: g.8661T>C) was identified in exon 6. Changes in predicted protein structures due to non-synonymous SNPs were analyzed. Haplotype frequencies and linkage disequilibrium were also investigated. Analysis of four SNPs in cattle from different native Chinese breeds (Nanyang (NY) and Jiaxian (JX)) and commercial breeds (Angus (AG), Hereford (HF), Limousin (LM), Luxi (LX), Simmental (ST) and Jinnan (JN)) revealed a significant association with growth traits (including: BW and hipbone width) and meat quality traits (including: Warner–Bratzler shear force and ribeye area). Therefore, implementation of these four mutations in selection indices in the beef industry may be beneficial in selecting individuals with superior growth and meat quality traits.

The genetic diversity was studied using microsatellite DNA markers in Laoshan dairy goat (LS), Xinong Saanen dairy goat (SN), Guanzhong dairy goat (GZ), Banjiao goat (BJ) and Guizhou white goat (GW). Within the nine polymorphic loci, allele frequencies, number of effective alleles (Ne), heterozygosity (He), polymorphism information content (PIC), genetic identity (I) and Nei's standard genetic distance (D) were calculated, and UPGMA phylogenetic tree was constructed based on allele frequencies. The average number of alleles was 9.4, ranging from four to eleven at the nine assessed loci. The average values of Ne, He, PIC of all loci were 4.716, 0.765, 0.732, respectively. The GZ population showed the highest variability (PIC = 0.78, He = 0.80). There was a relatively high level of genetic diversity in these goat breeds. A UPGMA diagram, based on Nei's standard genetic distances, yielded relationships between populations that agreed with what is known about their origin, history and geographical distribution.

Alpha-lactalbumin (α-LA, LALBA) was strongly correlated with the nutritional value and the functional properties of whey and whey products. However, there are not many studies of goat LALBA gene and its polymorphisms in literary sources. In this paper, on the basis of PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing, one M63868:g.1897T>C mutation in exon 3 at LALBA locus identified a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP): p.L100P of the LALBA protein, which could be detected by MspI endonuclease. Hence, we described a method based on MspI PCR-RFLP for SNP detection at the LALBA locus in 801 goats of China. Frequencies of goat LALBA-A2 allele varied from 0.000 to 0.024 in Chinese populations. Gene heterozygosity, effective allele numbers and PIC (Polymorphism Information Content) of goat LALBA locus in Chinese populations varied from 0.000 to 0.0472, 1.000 to 1.0496, 0.000 to 0.0461, respectively, which were lower values than in Italian populations. Therefore, we considered that the low frequency of LALBA-A2 allele at goat LALBA gene possibly characterized Chinese native breeds. Moreover, Chinese native populations demonstrated poorer polymorphism at goat LALBA locus than Italian populations.

The problem of hypoxia adaptation in high altitudes is an unsolved brainteaser in the field of the life sciences. As one of the best chicken breeds with adaptability to highland environment, the Tibet chicken, is genetically different from lowland chicken breeds. It is well known that hypoxia has significant impact on growth by inducing the expression of the alpha subunit of the heterodimeric transcription factor, hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF1α). In the present study, HIF1α expression in brain, heart and liver tissues of the Tibet and Dwarf Recessive White chicken embryos were investigated at the different development stages of days 10, 17 and 20 by real-time PCR, and the expression pattern of HIF1α in chicken embryos of the two chicken breeds incubated under conditions of hypoxia (13% O2) and normoxia (21% O2) was studied. The incubation mortality of the Tibet chicken was lower than the Dwarf Recessive White chicken during the whole incubation in hypoxia, and the mRNA expression of HIF1α had presented the differences in three tissues. The results implied that the hypoxia adaptability of the Tibet chicken embryo was higher than the Dwarf Recessive White chicken, especially in the early stage (day 10) and at a later time (day 20) during the incubation period, but the mechanism of the oxygen transfer of embryos of mountain species is not completely understood, and hypoxia adaptability of the Tibetan chicken remains to be studied further.

Image segmentation is an effective way to analysis image, which has received more and more attention. The traditional image segmentation technology can't get the result of the semantic image segmentation. Because the image is the projection of the 3D world in the 2D plane, it is necessary to combine the scene depth information to guide the segmentation of the image. In this paper, it analysis the shortcomings of the traditional segmentation technology, and describe the way of the image segmentation through the automatic measurement of the depth information of the digital image, and then complete the image of the auto focus function.

A mean field Mori-Tanaka model is developed to calculate the effective magnetoelectrostatic moduli of matrix-based multiferroic composites, in terms of the shape aspect ratio, volume fraction and orientation distribution of second phase particles. It is observed that laminated composites are optimal for magnetoelectric coefficient a(sub 11) while fibrous composites are optimal for a(sub 33) and also these coupling coefficients are maximum when the second phase particles are aligned.

A massless particle beyond the Standard Model is searched for in the two-body decay Σ+→p+invisible using (1.0087±0.0044)×1010 J/ψ events collected at a center-of-mass energy of s=3.097GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction B(Σ+→p+invisible) is determined to be 3.2×10−5 at the 90% confidence level. This is the first search for a flavor-changing neutral current process with missing energy in hyperon decays which plays an important role in constraining new physics models.
