Abstract

Since the beginning of 2010 Petrobras has been searching for a tool that could help it to manage the risk of all E&P (Exploration & Production) production installations. At the end of 2010 it has been decided to use the Bow-tie diagram tool to identify all the qualitative risk and manage it. At the beginning of 2012 Petrobras were challenged to elaborate the Bow-tie Diagrams for all offshore installation that totalize 125 production platforms. In order to be successful on this challenge it was decided to standardize the Bow-tie modelling for all events and hazards from all Risk Analysis of those platforms. As a result it was developed a proprietary Bow-tie diagram tool. The safe barriers of this tool are based on the conception of LOPA (Layers Of Protection Analysis) tool, which are comprise of nine layers of protection. For Petrobras, the first five layers are set to prevent the event and the last four are set to mitigate the consequences. Besides the Bow-tie diagram, it was developed a systematic system to monitor the integrity of those layers. This approach is based on a computerized system that collects real time data from operational systems to give an idea of the safety functions of the platform. The integrity is monitored based on a series of questions of management elements of the unit analysed, about the instrument or equipment related to each layer. The system has been developed as a pilot for one single platform. The results of this pilot have been analysed in order to tune the operational limits to achieve the best performance in safety and operational. The idea is to answer those questions automatically to give an updated information to the OIM (Offshore Installation Manager) as soon as the status changes. This will help him to make the best decision in order to maintain a high safety level of the platform. In the future, Petrobras intends to extend this approach to all onshore E&P (Exploration & Production) installation.

Abstract

Low-cost sensors to detect cancer biomarkers with high sensitivity and selectivity are essential for early diagnosis. Herein, an immunosensor was developed to detect the cancer biomarker p53 antigen in MCF7 lysates using electrical impedance spectroscopy. Interdigitated electrodes were screen printed on bacterial nanocellulose substrates, then coated with a matrix of layer-by-layer films of chitosan and chondroitin sulfate onto which a layer of anti-p53 antibodies was adsorbed. The immunosensing performance was optimized with a 3-bilayer matrix, with detection of p53 in MCF7 cell lysates at concentrations between 0.01 and 1000 Ucell. mL−1, and detection limit of 0.16 Ucell mL−1. The effective buildup of the immunosensor on bacterial nanocellulose was confirmed with polarization-modulated infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) and surface energy analysis. In spite of the high sensitivity, full selectivity with distinction of the p53-containing cell lysates and possible interferents required treating the data with a supervised machine learning approach based on decision trees. This allowed the creation of a multidimensional calibration space with 11 dimensions (frequencies used to generate decision tree rules), with which the classification of the p53-containing samples can be explained., This work was supported by CAPES, CNPq (160290/2019-8, 164569/2020-0, 311757/2019-7 and 423952/2018-8), INEO, FAPESP (2018/18953-8, 2020/09587-8, 2016/01919-6, 2019/01777-5 and 2018/22214-6) (Brazil).

Abstract

Commercial copolymers based on styrene and divinylbenzene containing sulfonic acid groups were used as support for the incorporation of silver nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were obtained in situ by the reduction of Ag+ by using hydroxylamine in the presence of a protective agent. These materials were characterized with determination of the silver content and their morphological characteristics. The antibacterial activity of the final products against Escherichia coli was evaluated and the results show that the synthesized copolymers had antibacterial effect varying from 54 to 100%. The most efficient composite was made with small, well distributed particles.

Abstract

Eu3+ doped bulk monoliths and thin films were obtained by sol-gel methods in the ZrO2, SiO2 and SiO2-TiO2 systems. Eu3+ 5D0 ® 7FJ emission and decay time characteristics were measured during the entire experimental preparation route from the initial sol to the final xerogels. The crystalline phases identified were tetragonal ZrO2 and mixtures of rutile and anatase TiO2 at high temperature treatments in bulk samples. Good quality thin films were obtained for all systems by dip-coating optical glasses (Schott BK270). The same spectroscopic features were observed either for the bulk monoliths or the films. By appropriate heat treatments under H2 atmosphere Eu2+ containing samples could be obtained in the SiO2-TiO2 system.

Abstract

Background We hypothesized that the clinical course of venous thromboembolism in patients with active cancer may differ according to the specificities of primary tumor site. Aim and Methods We used data from RIETE (international registry of patients with venous thromboembolism) to compare the clinical venous thromboembolism-related outcomes during the course of anticoagulation in patients with one of the 4 more frequent cancers (breast, prostate, colorectal, or lung cancer). Results As of September 2014, 3947 cancer patients were recruited, of whom 938 had breast, 629 prostate, 1189 colorectal, and 1191 lung cancer. Overall, 55% had metastatic disease (42%, 36%, 53%, and 72%, respectively). During the course of anticoagulant therapy (mean duration, 139 days), the rate of thromboembolic recurrences was similar to the rate of major bleeding in patients with breast (5.6 [95% confidence interval (CI), 3.8-8.1] vs 4.1 [95% CI, 2.7-5.9] events per 100 patient-years) or colorectal cancer (10 [95% CI, 7.6-13] vs 12 [95% CI, 9.4-15] per 100 patient-years). In contrast, in patients with prostate cancer, the rate of venous thromboembolic recurrences was half the rate of major bleeding (6.9 [95% CI, 4.4-10] vs 13 [95% CI, 9.2-17] events per 100 patient-years), whereas in those with lung cancer, the rate of thromboembolic recurrences was twofold higher than the rate of major bleeding (27 [95% CI, 22-23] vs 11 [95% CI, 8.6-15] per 100 patient-years). Conclusions Significant differences in the clinical profile of venous thromboembolic-related outcomes were observed according to the site of cancer. These findings suggest the development of cancer-specific anticoagulant strategies as an area for further research.

Os hormonios esteroides anabolicos androgenicos (EAA) compreendem a testosterona e seus derivados. Na medicina, os EAA sao utilizados geralmente no tratamento do hipogonadismo, câncer e osteoporose. Nos esportes, sao utilizados para o aumento da forca fisica e da massa muscular . Os EAA podem causar diversos efeitos colaterais, como psicopatologias, doenca coronariana e câncer de figado. Estudos epidemiologicos apontam a problematica acerca do uso de EAA entre atletas e praticantes de atividades fisicas. todavia, no Brasil nao existem publicacoes substanciais sobre esse tema. Esta revisao analisa esse assunto, procurando despertar o interesse para a producao cientifica de novos trabalhos relacionados ao tema.

Abstract

We sought to determine the risk factors for subsequent bleeding and recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) events following isolated noncatheter-associated upper extremity deep venous thrombosis (non-CA-UEDVT) to better inform future treatment decisions for this group of patients.The RIETE registry (Registro Informatizado de Enfermedad TromboEmbólica [Computerized Registry of Patients with Venous Thromboembolism]) is a prospective international registry of patients with objectively confirmed symptomatic VTE. Patients with a symptomatic, isolated, proximal UEDVT from March 2001 through March 2015 were analyzed. Any patient with an indwelling catheter or pacemaker lead at the DVT site and at the time of thrombosis was considered to have a CA-UEDVT and was excluded. Patient and treatment characteristics such as age, gender, comorbidities, VTE risk factors, treatment drug, and duration were collected. Outcomes examined included recurrent DVT, subsequent pulmonary embolism (PE), and hemorrhage. Multivariate analysis was performed using stepwise logistic regression.Of the 1100 patients who met the study criteria, 580 (53%) were male. The mean age of the patients was 50 ± 20 years, and overall patient survival at 1 year was 85%. Recurrent VTE occurred in 59 patients (5.4%). Of these, 46 patients (4%) had recurrent DVT, 10 (0.9%) had a PE following UEDVT diagnosis, and 3 (0.3%) had both. PE was fatal in three patients (0.3%). Bleeding occurred in 50 patients (4.5%), major bleeding in 19 patients (1.7%), and fatal bleeding in 6 patients (0.5%). On multivariate analysis, malignant disease was associated with VTE recurrence (odds ratio [OR], 2.00; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04-3.45; P .04), whereas hemorrhage was associated with age (OR, 1.03; 95% CI, 1.01-1.05; P = .002) and malignant disease (OR, 2.53; 95% CI, 1.34-4.76; P .005). Hemorrhage and recurrent VTE were also significantly associated (OR, 2.79; 95% CI, 1.16-6.76; P .03).PE following non-CA-UEDVT is rare. Malignant disease was associated with VTE recurrence. Age and malignant disease were associated with hemorrhage, and VTE recurrence was associated with hemorrhage. Further prospective studies should be undertaken to best determine length of anticoagulation treatment for the varied populations of patients with UEDVT.

Abstract

Background A comprehensive evaluation of temporal trends in the treatment of patients who have DVT may assist with identification of modifiable factors that contribute to short-term outcomes. Methods We assessed temporal trends in length of hospital stay and use of pharmacological and interventional therapies among 26,695 adults with DVT enrolled in the Registro Informatizado de la Enfermedad TromboEmbólica registry between 2001 and 2014. We also examined temporal trends in risk-adjusted rates of all-cause, pulmonary embolism-related, and bleeding-related death to 30 days after diagnosis. Abstract

International audience; BACKGROUND:No studies have identified which patients with upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are at low risk for adverse events within the first week of therapy.METHODS:We used data from Registro Informatizado de la Enfermedad TromboEmbólica to explore in patients with upper-extremity DVT a prognostic score that correctly identified patients with lower limb DVT at low risk for pulmonary embolism, major bleeding, or death within the first week.RESULTS:As of December 2014, 1135 outpatients with upper-extremity DVT were recruited. Of these, 515 (45%) were treated at home. During the first week, three patients (0.26%) experienced pulmonary embolism, two (0.18%) had major bleeding, and four (0.35%) died. We assigned 1 point to patients with chronic heart failure, creatinine clearance levels 30-60 mL min(-1) , recent bleeding, abnormal platelet count, recent immobility, or cancer without metastases; 2 points to those with metastatic cancer; and 3 points to those with creatinine clearance levels < 30 mL min(-1) . Overall, 759 (67%) patients scored ≤ 1 point and were considered to be at low risk. The rate of the composite outcome within the first week was 0.26% (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.004-0.87) in patients at low risk and 1.86% (95% CI 0.81-3.68) in the remaining patients. C-statistics was 0.73 (95% CI 0.57-0.88). Net reclassification improvement was 22%, and integrated discrimination improvement was 0.0055.CONCLUSIONS:Using six easily available variables, we identified outpatients with upper-extremity DVT at low risk for adverse events within the first week. These data may help to safely treat more patients at home.

Abstract

Background Individuals with factor V Leiden or prothrombin G20210A mutations are at a higher risk to develop venous thromboembolism. However, the influence of these polymorphisms on patient outcome during anticoagulant therapy has not been consistently explored. Methods We used the Registro Informatizado de Enfermedad TromboEmbolica database to compare rates of venous thromboembolism recurrence and bleeding events occurring during the anticoagulation course in factor V Leiden carriers, prothrombin mutation carriers, and noncarriers. Results Between March 2001 and December 2015, 10,139 patients underwent thrombophilia testing. Of these, 1384 were factor V Leiden carriers, 1115 were prothrombin mutation carriers, and 7640 were noncarriers. During the anticoagulation course, 160 patients developed recurrent deep vein thrombosis and 94 patients developed pulmonary embolism (16 died); 154 patients had major bleeding (10 died), and 291 patients had nonmajor bleeding. On multivariable analysis, factor V Leiden carriers had a similar rate of venous thromboembolism recurrence (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.16; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82-1.64), half the rate of major bleeding (adjusted HR, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.25-0.99) and a nonsignificantly lower rate of nonmajor bleeding (adjusted HR, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.43-1.01) than noncarriers. Prothrombin mutation carriers and noncarriers had a comparable rate of venous thromboembolism recurrence (adjusted HR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.68-1.48), major bleeding (adjusted HR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.42-1.34), and nonmajor bleeding events (adjusted HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.77-1.57). Conclusions During the anticoagulation course, factor V Leiden carriers had a similar risk for venous thromboembolism recurrence and half the risk for major bleeding compared with noncarriers. This finding may contribute to decision-making regarding anticoagulation duration in selected factor V Leiden carriers with venous thromboembolism.

X-ray diffraction and optical spectroscopy. Avrami parameters (Ec and n) were obtained from DTA curves. With La3+ substitution a decrease in the stability against crystallization was observed. This decrease follows the order Er3+ > Nd3+ ≈ Pr3+ for 3% molar substitution. n values suggest an interface controlled growth mechanism with grain edge nucleation abler saturation. Two crystalline polymorphs of the LaZr3F15 phase were identified. With the substitution of 3 mol% of Pr3+, Nd3+ or Er3+ for La3+ only the crystallization of the rhombohedral α-LnZr3F15 phase was observed. An increase in Ω 6 Judd's intensity parameter occurs with crystallization and also an increase in the 1.04 μm peak emission cross-section for Nd3+ 4 I 3 2 state suggesting the potential application of these glass ceramics in optical amplification devices.

Abstract

This review classifies genetic-algorithm environments into application-oriented systems, algorithm-oriented systems, and toolkits. It also presents detailed case studies of leading environments. Following Holland's (1975) original genetic algorithm proposal, many variations of the basic algorithm have been introduced. However. an important and distinctive feature of all GAs is the population-handling technique. The original GA adopted a generational replacement policy, according to which the whole population is replaced in each generation. Conversely, the steady-state policy used by many subsequent GAs selectively replaces the population. After we introduce GA models and their programming, we present a survey of GA programming environments. We have grouped them into three major classes according to their objectives: application-oriented systems hide the details of GAs and help users develop applications for specific domains; algorithm-oriented systems are based on specific GA models; and toolkits are flexible environments for programming a range of GAs and applications. We review the available environments and describe their common features and requirements. As case studies, we select some specific systems for more detailed examination. To conclude, we discuss likely future developments in GA programming environments. >

Abstract

International audience; BACKGROUND:Few studies have investigated the treatment and the outcomes of patients with catheter-related thrombosis (CRT).METHODS:The RIETE registry (Registro Informatizado de Enfermedad TromboEmbólica [Computerized Registry of Patients with Venous Thromboembolism]) is a prospective international registry of consecutive patients with objectively confirmed venous thromboembolism (VTE). We analyzed the characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of patients with CRT.RESULTS:Of 558 patients with CRT, 45 (8%) presented with a pulmonary embolism (PE) concomitantly. More patients had central line-associated thrombosis compared with port systems, but catheter type did not influence the risk of presenting with a PE. Patients with only CRT were more often prescribed low-molecular-weight heparin for the duration of their anticoagulant treatment compared with patients presenting with concomitant PE. VTE recurrences and major bleeding events occurred frequently during treatment with anticoagulation (7 per 100 patient-years and 8.9 per 100 patient years, respectively). The rates of fatal PE recurrences (1.85 per 100 patient-years) and fatal bleeding (2.32 per 100 patient-years) were similar. Patients with an additional transient risk factor for VTE had the lowest risk for VTE recurrences (odds ratio [OR], 0.07; 90% confidence interval [CI], 0.01-0.45) compared with patients with CRT and no additional transient risk factors. PE at presentation increased the risk of recurrent thrombosis by 2.4 times. Renal insufficiency was also an independent predictor of recurrent thrombosis (OR, 3.93; 90% CI, 2.0-7.7). The odds of recurrent thrombosis was decreased by 77% in patients who received anticoagulation therapy for >90 days compared with patients with a shorter treatment (OR, 0.23; 90% CI, 0.1-0.56).CONCLUSIONS:Concomitant PE occurs less frequently in CRT than lower extremity deep venous thrombosis, but it is associated with a worse outcome. CRT occurs in high-risk patients, and duration of anticoagulation must be predicated on balancing these risks.

Abstract

The GAME system is a programming environment being developed at University College London as part of the major European project, aimed at promoting and demonstrating the use of genetic algorithms in real world applications. GAME is target at the development and execution of complex sequential, concurrent or parallel applications, based on the genetic algorithm (GA) paradigm. Its object-oriented design and implementation provide the required levels of abstraction to describe and configure applications for a broad range of domains. GAME addresses the basic requirements involved in the design cycle of a GA application; it offers a set of genetic-oriented data structures, objects and straightforward programming interfaces that permit the implementation of a variety of GAs and parallel GAs. The underlying infrastructure provides the mechanisms for problem independent manipulation of data structures, monitoring, and execution on a virtual computing environment supporting multiple parallel computation models. Applications are constructed from parameterised libraries containing algorithms and genetic operators modules. GAME is highly customisable and its libraries can be easily expanded with the inclusion of new parameterised modules. Novice users can rapidly configure and execute pre-defined applications by simply setting up few parameters. Programmers can create new applications by combining pre-defined algorithms and genetic operators, or by directly programming new algorithms using the set of C++ classes provided. A graphic interface and monitoring facilities are also available in GAME. >

Abstract

In this paper some results concerning an EPR study of Mn 2+ doped BCCD crystals are reported. The measurements were done in the temperature range of 10 K-300 K using an X-band frequency of 9.45 GHz and a magnetic field in the range 0-10 4 G. The high temperature data can be described by a simple Hamiltonian which allows the understanding of the anisotropy of the spectra. The principal magnetic axes of the defects are identified in the crystallographic coordinate system. At low temperatures the analysis of the structure of the hyperfine lines for a particular favourable direction of the applied magnetic field allows the visualisation of several phase transitions to different commensurate and incommensurate phases Etude RPE entre 10 et 300 K, dans la bande de frequences 9,45 GHz avec un champ magnetique variant de 0 a 10 4 G. Abstract

The development of photonic devices has been largely benefitted by the offer of new flexible and stretchable materials. Many innovative components and devices have been developed for light-based applications. Presently it is recognized that integration of active and passive elements on flexible substrates will simplify many proposed photonic applications. For example, extensive variety of optical sensors integrated on biological tissues, optical waveguides based on polymer films, flexible organic interconnects, and imaging devices, are receiving large attention nowadays. Especially, the search for optical sources such as organic light emitting diodes and lasers are two booming areas. Flexible Random Lasers (FRLs) based on stretchable materials, in particular, have been object of intense research in the past few years.In this paper we present an overview of the FRLs literature, with emphasis in 2D and 3D materials, and the achievements and availability of new flexible organic and inorganic materials for FRLs. In Section 2 we present some basic ideas of Random Lasers (fundamentals, operation, and physical characteristics). Section 3 contains a detailed assessment of various types of FRLs based on biopolymers, electrospinning and natural fibers, silicones, semiconductor nanowires, perovskites, chiral molecules, polyethylene and polystyrene substrates. In Section 4 we present our perspective on new opportunities and emerging applications in this field.
