Abstract: Fink is a broker designed to enable science with large time-domain alert streams such as the one from the upcoming Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). It exhibits traditional astronomy broker features such as automatised ingestion, annotation, selection and redistribution of promising alerts for transient science. It is also designed to go beyond traditional broker features by providing real-time transient classification which is continuously improved by using state-of-the-art Deep Learning and Adaptive Learning techniques. These evolving added values will enable more accurate scientific output from LSST photometric data for diverse science cases while also leading to a higher incidence of new discoveries which shall accompany the evolution of the survey. Abstract: The Tianlai Pathfinder is designed to demonstrate the feasibility of using a wide field of view radio interferometers to map the density of neutral hydrogen in the Universe after the Epoch of Reionizaton. This approach, called 21~cm intensity-mapping, promises an inexpensive means for surveying the large-scale structure of the cosmos. The Tianlai Pathfinder presently consists of an array of three, 15~m $\times$ 40~m cylinder telescopes and an array of sixteen, 6~m diameter dish antennas located in a radio-quiet part of western China. The two types of arrays were chosen to determine the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. The primary goal of the Pathfinder is to make 3D maps by surveying neutral hydrogen over large areas of the sky %$20,000 {\rm deg}^2$ in two different redshift ranges: first at $1.03 > z > 0.78$ ($700 - 800$~MHz) and later at $0.21 > z > 0.12$ ($1170 - 1270$~MHz). The most significant challenge to $21$~cm intensity-mapping is the removal of strong foreground radiation that dwarfs the cosmological signal. It requires exquisite knowledge of the instrumental response, i.e. calibration. In this paper, we provide an overview of the status of the Pathfinder and discuss the details of some of the analysis that we have carried out to measure the beam function of both arrays. We compare electromagnetic simulations of the arrays to measurements, discuss measurements of the gain and phase stability of the instrument, and provide a brief overview of the data processing pipeline., 18 pages, 10 figures

Abstract: Most currently, viable double beta decay experiments require highly enriched isotopic sources. These sources must be extraordinarily free of radioactive contamination. The double beta decay experiment NEMO 3 will study 100Mo, for which physical and chemical purification techniques have been investigated. The success of the chemical purification process is discussed in the context of ultra-low background, high-purity germanium spectrometer measurements.

Abstract: To be sensitive to an effective Majorana neutrino mass, 〈 m ν 〉, on the order of 0.1 eV, the NEMO 3 double beta (ββ(0ν)) decay experiment requires precise knowledge and control of the backgrounds. The effect of neutrons and γ-rays from the Frejus underground laboratory (LSM, Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane) has been studied during 10 700 h of data collection. The data were taken with a NEMO 2 prototype detector using different shield configurations. Monte Carlo calculations with GEANT/MICAP code and a new library of γ-rays from neutron captures are presented. The implied consequences for the NEMO 3 detector which is under construction are discussed. The neutrinoless double beta decay background induced by neutrons and γ-rays within the LSM will be suppressed to the very suitable level of 0.1 event in a live time of five years given the appropriate shield and magnetic field.

Abstract: The NEMO-2 tracking detector located in the Frejus Underground Laboratory was designed as a prototype for the NEMO-3 detector and to study different modes of double beta decay. Measurements with 100 Mo, 116 Cd, 82 Se and 96 Zr were carried out. Presented here are the experimental half-life limits on double beta decays for new Majoron emission modes and limits on effective neutrino–Majoron coupling constants.

Abstract: In the double beta decay (ββ) experiment NEMO-2, the 214 Bi radioactivity has been measured as background for the ββ processes. The analysis of the 214 Bi contamination has been performed via the signature of 214 Po alpha decay. This method has been applied to data taken with enriched 100 Mo and 116 Cd sources. At the level of NEMO-2's sensitivity, in a 1.0 mole yr study of enriched material, the contamination of the sources can be measured in the range of 2.0 mBq kg −1 . The effects of deposited contamination by 222 Rn are also discussed and estimated at the level of 0.3 mBq per square meter of source foil. Backgrounds for neutrinoless double beta decay (ββ0v) are deduced from these measurements and the consequences for the higher sensitivity ββ experiment NEMO-3 are drawn.

Abstract: The NEMO-2 tracking detector located in the Frejus Underground Laboratory was designed as a prototype of the detector NEMO-3 to study 0ν and 2ν double-beta decay (ββ) physics. After ten months of nearly continuous running with an enriched cadmium source (0.92 mol·y of116Cd) aββ2ν half-life ofT1/2=(3.75±0.35(stat)±0.21(syst))·1019 y was measured. Limits with 90% CL on the116Cd half-lives of 5.0·1021 y forββ0ν decay and of 1.2·1021 y forββ0νχ0 decay with a Majoron (χ0) were obtained. Abstract: In this paper, we apply our sky map reconstruction method for transit type interferometers to the Tianlai cylinder array. The method is based on the spherical harmonic decomposition, and can be applied to cylindrical array as well as dish arrays and we can compute the instrument response, synthesised beam, transfer function and the noise power spectrum. We consider cylinder arrays with feed spacing larger than half wavelength, and as expected, we find that the arrays with regular spacing have grating lobes which produce spurious images in the reconstructed maps. We show that this problem can be overcome, using arrays with different feed spacing on each cylinder. We present the reconstructed maps, and study the performance in terms of noise power spectrum, transfer function and beams for both regular and irregular feed spacing configurations., Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures, accepted by RAA

Abstract: From data accumulated over 6140 h with 172 g of enriched molybdenum (1.18 mol yr of $^{100}\mathrm{Mo}$) with the NEMO 2 detector in the Fr\'ejus Underground Laboratory, a clear \ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}2\ensuremath{\nu} signal (1433 events) is observed, leading to a half-life ${\mathit{T}}_{1/2}$=0.95\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.04(stat)\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.09(syst) ${10}^{19}$ yr. The experimental two-electron energy spectrum and the two-electron angular distribution are in agreement with the expected ones. Limits for \ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}0\ensuremath{\nu} decays to the ground state, excited states (${2}_{1}^{+}$ and ${0}_{1}^{+}$), and also with Majoron emission are given.

Abstract: International audience; PARISROC (Photomultiplier ARray Integrated in SiGe ReadOut Chip) is a complete readout chip in AustriaMicroSystems (AMS) SiGe 0.35 μm technology designed to read array of 16 Photomultipliers (PMTs). The ASIC is realized in the context of the PMm2 (square meter PhotoMultiplier) project that has proposed a new system of "smart photo-detectors" composed by sensor and read-out electronics dedicated to next generation neutrino experiments. The future water Cherenkov detectors will take place in megaton size water tanks then with a large surface of photo-detection. We propose to segment the large surface in arrays with a single front-end electronics and only the useful data send in surface to be stocked and analyzed. This paper describes the second version of the ASIC and illustrates the chip principle of operation and the main characteristics thank to a series of measurements. It is a 16-channel ASIC with channels that work independently, in triggerless mode and all managed by a common digital part. Then main innovation is that all the channels are handled independently by the digital part so that only channels that have triggered are digitized. Then the data are transferred to the internal memory and sent out in a data driven way. The ASIC allows charge and time measurement. We measured a charge measurement range starting from 160 fC (1 photoelectron-p.e., at PMT gain of 106) to 100 pC (around 600 p.e.) at 1% of linearity; time tagging at 1 ns thanks to a 24-bit counter at 10 MHz and a Time to Digital Converter (TDC) on a 100 ns ramp.

Abstract: PARISROC is a complete read out chip, in AMS SiGe 0.35 !m technology, for photomultipliers array. It allows triggerless acquisition for next generation neutrino experiments and it belongs to an R&D program funded by the French national agency for research (ANR) called PMm2: ?Innovative electronics for photodetectors array used in High Energy Physics and Astroparticles? (ref.ANR-06-BLAN-0186). The ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) integrates 16 independent and auto triggered channels with variable gain and provides charge and time measurement by a Wilkinson ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) and a 24-bit Counter. The charge measurement should be performed from 1 up to 300 photo- electrons (p.e.) with a good linearity. The time measurement allowed to a coarse time with a 24-bit counter at 10 MHz and a fine time on a 100ns ramp to achieve a resolution of 1 ns. The ASIC sends out only the relevant data through network cables to the central data storage. Abstract: The conclusions of the Physics Working Group of the international scoping study of a future Neutrino Factory and super-beam facility (the ISS) are presented. The ISS was carried by the international community between NuFact05, (the 7th International Workshop on Neutrino Factories and Superbeams, Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Rome, June 21-26, 2005) and NuFact06 (Ivine, California, 24{30 August 2006). The physics case for an extensive experimental programme to understand the properties of the neutrino is presented and the role of high-precision measurements of neutrino oscillations within this programme is discussed in detail. The performance of second generation super-beam experiments, beta-beam facilities, and the Neutrino Factory are evaluated and a quantitative comparison of the discovery potential of the three classes of facility is presented. High-precision studies of the properties of the muon are complementary to the study of neutrino oscillations. The Neutrino Factory has the potential to provide extremely intense muon beams and the physics potential of such beams is discussed in the final section of the report., 370 pages, 121 postscript figures

Low radioactive materials have been used to build the detector. Data corresponding to 5619 hours in the Frejus Underground Laboratory are presented. Conclusions are drawn for the possibility of using such a detector for a double beta decay experiment.

Abstract: The next generation of proton decay and neutrino experiments, the post-SuperKamiokande detectors as those that will take place in megaton size water tanks, will require very large surfaces of photodetection and a large volume of data. Even with large hemispherical photomultiplier tubes, the expected number of channels should reach hundreds of thousands. A funded R&D program to implement a solution is presented here. The very large surface of photodetection is segmented in macro pixels made of 16 hemispherical (12 inches) photomultiplier tubes connected to an autonomous front-end which works on a triggerless data acquisition mode. The expected data transmission rate is 5 Mb/s per cable, which can be achieved with existing techniques. This architecture allows to reduce considerably the cost and facilitate the industrialization. This document presents the simulations and measurements which define the requirements for the photomultipliers and the electronics. A proto-type of front-end electronics was successfully tested with 16 photomultiplier tubes supplied by a single high voltage, validating the built-in gain adjustment and the calibration principle. Abstract: We present a search for the third generation up type quark t and a possible fourth down type quark b' in hadronic Z0 decays observed in DELPHI at the LEP collider. For any scenario with a decay through the charged current or into a charged Higgs with a mass at least 6 GeV/c2 below the t and 3 GeVc2 below the b' mass, we set a lower limit for the t quark mass at 44.0 GeV/c2 and for the b' mass at 44.5 GeV/c2. For specific scenarios the mass limits are slightly higher, e.g. for charged current decays the limits are 44.5 and 45.0 GeV/c2 respectively, where all limits are given at a 95% confidence level. © 1990., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract: The main task of the Target Tracker detector of the long baseline neutrino oscillation OPERA experiment is to locate in which of the target elementary constituents, the lead/emulsion bricks, the neutrino interactions have occurred and also to give calorimetric information about each event. The technology used consists in walls of two planes of plastic scintillator strips, one per transverse direction. Wavelength shifting fibres collect the light signal emitted by the scintillator strips and guide it to both ends where it is read by multi-anode photomultiplier tubes. Abstract: This paper presents the ASIC (OperaROC) developed to readout the multi-anode phototubes (PM) used in the Target tracker of the Opera neutrino experiment. It is made of 32 channels of variable gain preamplifiers, shapers, track and hold, multiplexed output and an auto-trigger capability. The channel to channel gain adjustment allows to compensate with 6 bits and up to a factor of 4 the non-uniformity of the PM. This optimizes the dynamic range and allows the use of a common threshold on the chip. The auto-trigger capability discriminates at 1/3 of photoelectron (p.e.) with a dispersion of 0.05 p.e. and performs the hold for the multiplexed charge readout on a dynamic range of 0.1 to 100 p.e. Design considerations and measured performance are presented.

Abstract: After 10357 h of running the NEMO-2 tracking detector with an isotopically enriched zirconium source (0.084 mol yr of 96Zr), a ββ2ν decay half-life of T1/2=(2.1+0.8(stat)−0.4(stat)±0.2(syst))·1019 y was measured. Limits with a 90% C.L. on the 96Zr half-lives of 1.0·1021 y for ββ0ν decay to the ground state, 3.9·1020 y to the 2+ excited state and 3.5·1020 y for ββ0νχ0 decay with a Majoron (χ0) were obtained. The data also provide direct limits at the 90% C.L. for the 94Zr half-lives. These limits are 1.1·1017 y for ββ2ν decay to the ground state, 1.9·1019 y for ββ0ν decay to the ground state and 2.3·1018 y for ββ0νχ0 decay to ground state.

Abstract: Presented is a field theory treatment of neutrino flavor oscillations in the process p → T (X ′ )+π + →(μ + +υ → D l ‡ +(X) , where T and D stand for the target and detector, respectively. Without arbitrary wave-packets, it is shown that with the introduction of the experimental operating parameters to constraint the phase space the different limitations of the “classical” derivation of the oscillating amplitude are generated. The conditions of the NOMAD experiment performed at CERN are used as a guide line.

Abstract: To investigate double beta decay processes, the NEMO collaboration began a long-range research and development program in 1988. The NEMO 2 detector, which is now running in the Frejus underground laboratory (L.S.M. Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane), is the second prototype. It consists of a 1 m2 source foil sandwiched between Geiger cell drift chambers for electron tracking and two plastic scintillator walls for energy and time-of-flight measurements. The technical description of the detector is followed by the study of the various sources of background.

Abstract: International audience; The next generation of proton decay and neutrino experiments, the post-SuperKamiokande detectors, such as those that will take place in megaton size water tanks, will require very large surfaces of photo-detection and will produce a large volume of data. Even with large hemispherical photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), the expected number of channels should reach hundreds of thousands. An ANR funded R&D program to implement a solution is presented here. The very large surface of photo-detection is segmented in macro pixels consisting of an array (2 × 2 m2) of 16 hemispherical 12-inch PMTs connected to autonomous underwater front-end electronics working in a triggerless data acquisition mode. The array is powered by a common high voltage and only one data cable allows the connection by network to the surface controller. This architecture allows a considerable reduction of the cost and facilitates the industrialization. This paper presents the complete architecture of the prototype system and tests results with 16 8-inch PMTs, validating the whole electronics, the built-in gain adjustment and the calibration principle.

Abstract: We consider the physics potential of CERN based neutrino oscillation experiments consisting of a Beta Beam (BB) and a Super Beam (SPL) sending neutrinos to MEMPHYS, a 440 kt water \v{C}erenkov detector at Frejus, at a distance of 130 km from CERN. The $\theta_{13}$ discovery reach and the sensitivity to CP violation are investigated, including a detailed discussion of parameter degeneracies and systematical errors. For SPL sensitivities similar to the ones of the phase II of the T2K experiment (T2HK) are obtained, whereas the BB may reach significantly better sensitivities, depending on the achieved number of total ion decays. The results for the CERN-MEMPHYS experiments are less affected by systematical uncertainties than T2HK. We point out that by a combination of data from BB and SPL a measurement with antineutrinos is not necessary and hence the same physics results can be obtained within about half of the measurement time compared to one single experiment. Furthermore, it is shown how including data from atmospheric neutrinos in the MEMPHYS detector allows to resolve parameter degeneracies and, in particular, provides sensitivity to the neutrino mass hierarchy and the octant of $\theta_{23}$., Comment: 32 pages, 17 figures, minor improvements on the text wrt to v2, version to appear in JHEP

Abstract: The Pauli Exclusion Principle (PEP) was tested with the NEMO-2 detector. Limits at the 90% C.L. on the violation of PEP for p-shell nucleons in 12C were obtained. Specifically, transitions to the fully occupied 1s1/2-shell yielded a limit of 4.2 · 1024 y for the process with emission of a γ-quantum. Similarly limits of 3.1 · 1024 y for β− and 2.6 · 1024 y for β+ Pauli-forbidden transitions of 12C →12N12B) are reported here.

Abstract: The NEMO-2 tracking detector located in the Frejus Underground Laboratory was designed as a prototype of the NEMO-3 detector to study neutrinoless (Oν) and two neutrino (2ν) double-beta decay (ββ) physics. After 10357 h of running with an isotopically enriched selenium source (2.17 mol yr of 82Se) a ββ2ν decay half-life of T 1 2 = (0.83 ± 0.10( stat ) ± 0.07 ( syst )) × 10 20 yr was measured. Limits with a 90% C.L. on the 82Se half-lives of 9.5 × 1021 yr for ββ0ν decay to the ground state, 2.8 × 1021 yr to the (2+) excited state and 2.4 × 1021 yr for ββ0νχ0 decay with a Majoron (χ0) were also obtained.

Abstract: The pair production of the lightest scalar Higgs boson, h, and a pseudoscalar Higgs boson, A, was searched for in a data sample containing 10 000 hadronic Z0 decays. The search involved both leptonic and purely hadronic decay channels of each Higgs boson. No signal was found, and limits on the Higgs boson masses, in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, ar reported up to 35 GeV/c2 at 95% CL, for both tan β > 1 and tan β < 1, where tan β is the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract: PMm² is a project funded for three years by the French National Agency for Research (ANR) with the complete title: “Innovative electronics for photo-detectors array used in high energy physics and astroparticles”. The R&D is carried out by three laboratories: the LAL, the IPN Orsay, the LAPP and collaboration with the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). The coverage of large areas of photo-detection is a crucial element of experiments studying high energy atmospheric cosmic showers and neutrinos from different sources (sun, atmospheric, supernova, reactor and accelerator). The next generation of experiments, such as the post-Super-Kamiokande detector or all the Water Cerenkov detector of large dimensions, could not base their programs only on a simple enlargement of existing experiments to improve the detection performance but they must concentrate their efforts on the new R&D programs of complexity reduction. The objective of this project is thus an "upstream research" to realize big detectors using thousands of photomultipliers (PMTs). The project proposes to segment the large surface of photo-detection into macro pixels consisting of an array of 16 PMTs of 12-inches (2*2 m²), connected to an autonomous front-end electronics which works in a triggerless data acquisition mode placed near the array. This is possible thanks to the microelectronics progress that allows to integrate the readout and the signal processing, of all the photomultipliers, in the same circuit (ASIC) named PARISROC (Photomultiplier ARray Integrated in SiGe Read Out Chip). The ASIC must only send out the digital data by network to the surface central data storage. The PARISROC Chip, made in AMS' Silicon Germanium (SiGe) 0.35 µm technology, integrates 16 independent channels for each PMTs of the array, providing charge and time measurements. The charge channel is made by a voltage preamplifier and a slow shaper (up to 200 ns) to shape the input signal. The signal is then saved in the analog memory and converted to digital data thanks to an internal ADC (Analog to Digital Converter). The time channel is made by a fast shaper (15 ns) followed by a discriminator. Thanks to a TDC (Time to Digital Converter), that converts the amplitude in time, the signal is saved in the analog memory, in parallel with the charge, and converted to digital data by the ADC. One innovation is the digital part of PARISROC included in the ASIC to manage the counters, the signal sampling, their conversions and the data transmission. The first prototype of PARISROC chip has a total surface of 19 mm². It has been sent for fabrication in June 2008 to AMS foundry (AustriaMicroSystems) through the CMP (Multi Project Center) and received in December 2008. The ASIC measurements have led to the realization of a second prototype. Important measurements were brought in terms of noise, dynamic range, readout frequency (from 10 MHz to 40 MHz), time measurements (TDC improvements) and charge measurements (Slow shaper improvements). Sent for fabrication in November 2009 and received in February 2010, this new prototype PARISROC 2 has been tested and the characterisation has shown a good overall behavior and the verification of the improvements.; PMm² est un projet financé pour 3 ans (2007-2010) par l'Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) dont le titre exact est “Electronique innovante pour photo-détecteurs distribués en physique des particules et astroparticule”. Le projet regroupe les partenaires suivants: le LAL, l'IPN Orsay, le LAPP et une collaboration avec l'Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). La couverture de très grandes surfaces de photo-détection est un élément essentiel des dispositifs expérimentaux dévolus aux études des gerbes atmosphériques de grande énergie, des neutrinos de différentes sources (soleil, atmosphérique, supernova, réacteurs, accélérateurs). La prochaine génération d'expériences, comme l'après Super-Kamiokande ou tous les détecteurs Cerenkov à eau de très grande taille, ne pourront plus baser leur construction seulement sur un simple agrandissement des expériences existantes, pour améliorer les performances de détection. Ils doivent concentrer leurs efforts de R&D sur la réduction de la complexité. L'objectif de ce projet est donc une “recherche amont” en vue de facilité la réalisation de grands détecteurs utilisant des milliers de photomultiplicateurs (PMTs). Le projet PMm² propose de segmenter les grandes surfaces de photo-détection en “macro modules” de 16 PMTs de 12-inch (2x2 m²), connectés à une électronique innovante autonome qui fonctionne en déclenchement automatique et est installée proche des PMTs. Ce développement est rendu possible par les progrès de la microélectronique qui permettent d'intégrer la lecture et le traitement des signaux de tous ces photomultiplicateurs à l'intérieur d'un même circuit intégré (ASIC) baptisé PARISROC (Photomultiplier ARray Integrated in SiGe Read Out Chip) et seules les données numérisées sont ensuite transmises par réseau vers le système de stockage des données en surface. Le circuit PARISROC, réalisé en technologie AMS SiGe 0.35 μm, contient 16 voies totalement indépendantes correspondant aux 16 PMTs de chaque module. Chacune de ces voies permet la lecture de la charge du signal reçu ainsi que du temps associé. La voie pour la mesure de charge est réalisée par un préamplificateur de tension et un “shaper” lent (200 ns) qui permet de mettre en forme le signal. Le signal obtenu est ensuite stocké dans une mémoire analogique, avant d'être converti en signaux numériques grâce à un convertisseur analogique numérique (ADC). La voie pour la mesure de temps est, quant à elle, réalisée à partir du même préamplificateur suivi d'un “shaper” rapide (15ns) et d'un discriminateur. Grâce à un système de TDC (Time to Digital Converter) qui permet de convertir l'amplitude en temps, la mesure de temps est stockée dans une mémoire analogique, en parallèle de la charge, avant d'être convertie en signaux numériques. Une des innovations de PARISROC, est la partie numérique compilée, incluse dans l'ASIC pour gérer les compteurs, l'échantillonnage des signaux, leur conversion ainsi que la transmission des données. Le premier prototype du circuit PARISROC a une surface totale de 19 mm2. Il a été envoyé en fabrication en juin 2008 chez Austrian Micro-System (AMS) par l'intermédiaire du centre de multi-projet CMP (à Grenoble), puis livré au laboratoire en décembre 2008. Les mesures effectuées sur l'ASIC ont conduit à la réalisation d'un second prototype. Des améliorations notables ont été apportées, en termes de bruit, de dynamique, de vitesse de lecture du circuit (augmentation des horloges de 10 MHz à 40 MHz), de mesure de temps (améliorations de la TDC), de mesure de charge (améliorations du “shaper” lent). Envoyé en fabrication en novembre 2009 et reçu au laboratoire en février 2010, ce nouveau prototype PARISROC 2 a été testé en laboratoire et l'analyse a montré un comportement répondant aux besoins du projet et la réalisation des modifications apportées.

Abstract: The OPERA neutrino oscillation experiment has been designed to prove the appearance of ντ in a nearly pure νμ beam (CNGS) produced at CERN and detected in the underground Hall C of the Gran Sasso Laboratory, 730 km away from the source. In OPERA, τ leptons resulting from the interaction of ντ are produced in target units called bricks made of nuclear emulsion films interleaved with lead plates. The OPERA target contains 150000 of such bricks, for a total mass of 1.25 kton, arranged into walls interleaved with plastic scintillator strips. The detector is split into two identical supermodules, each supermodule containing a target section followed by a magnetic spectrometer for momentum and charge measurement of penetrating particles. Real time information from the scintillators and the spectrometers provide the identification of the bricks where the neutrino interactions occurred. The candidate bricks are extracted from the walls and, after X-ray marking and an exposure to cosmic rays for alignment, their emulsion films are developed and sent to the emulsion scanning laboratories to perform the accurate scan of the event. In this paper, we review the design and construction of the detector and of its related infrastructures, and report on some technical performances of the various components. The construction of the detector started in 2003 and it was completed in Summer 2008. The experiment is presently in the data taking phase.
