Summary The length–weight relationships (LWRs) for 19 freshwater fish species in Upo Wetland, South Korea, were analyzed. Fish samples were collected quarterly using scoop-nets (5 mm mesh), casting nets (7 mm mesh) and a fixed shore net (15 mm mesh) from 2007 to 2014. LWRs data for three species have not yet been listed in FishBase.

Summary The length-weight relationships (LWRs) for 10 freshwater fish species in catchment area of Busan Metropolitan City, South Korea, were analyzed. Fish samples were collected quarterly using scoop-nets (mesh 5 mm), casting nets (mesh 7 mm) and gill nets (mesh 20, 50 and 70 mm) from 2011 to 2016. LWRs data for seven of these species have not yet been listed in FishBase.

Summary The length-weight relationships were analysed for 19 species classified into nine families from the Saemangeum reservoir, South Korea. The sample size ranged from 12 individuals for Silurus asotus and Micropterus salmoides to 548 for Liza haematocheila. Six species have no length-weight information in FishBase.

Summary This study estimated LWRs of fifteen Korean endemic fish species, which had no prior LWR data in fishbase. Fish samples were collected quarterly in the Korean Peninsula from 2010 to 2013 by cast net, gill nets and a kick net. Ranges of parameters a and b of the 15 species were from 0.00398 to 0.01141 and 0.96 to 3.32, respectively.

Summary The length-weight relationships for nineteen freshwater fish species in the Daechung Reservoir, South Korea, were analyzed. LWR data for fourteen of these species were not yet listed in FishBase.

We aimed to determine the seroprevalence of poliovirus antibody in Korea by using the cell culture neutralization method recommended by the WHO. A total of 500 sera collected from children at eight primary schools in Kyunggi province were used for this study. We have evaluated PCR-RFLP as a practical method for rapid typing of enteroviruses causing aseptic meningitis in Korea. Through blind examination of 80 clinical isolates from patients with aseptic meningitis, we have compared the results of conventional serotyping with PCR-RFLP based genotyping, which was developed for this study. Among the 80 case isolates, which had been previously typed by routine neutralization test, only 42 cases (52.5%) were matched with typing by PCR-RFLP. The result clearly demonstrated that the enterovirus serotype does not coincide with the genotype. Therefore, the classification of enteroviruses by genotyping with PCR-RFLP, although rapid and simple, may be complicated by regional or seasonal differences. However, the PCR-RFLP method developed in this study is applicable to the epidemiological study of enteroviruses when regional or seasonal differences exist, and is useful in identifying the source of an infection.
