The analysis of the topography of brain neuromodulation following transcranial alternating current (AC) stimulation is relevant for defining strategies directed to specific nuclei stimulation in patients. Among the different procedures of AC stimulation, temporal interference (tTIS) is a novel method for non-invasive neuromodulation of specific deep brain targets. However, little information is currently available about its tissue effects and its activation topography in in vivo animal models. After a single session (30 min, 0.12 mA) of transcranial alternate current (2,000 Hz; ES/AC group) or tTIS (2,000/2,010 Hz; Es/tTIS group) stimulation, rat brains were explored by whole-brain mapping analysis of c-Fos immunostained serial sections. For this analysis, we used two mapping methods, namely density-to-color processed channels (independent component analysis (ICA) and graphical representation (MATLAB) of morphometrical and densitometrical values obtained by density threshold segmentation. In addition, to assess tissue effects, alternate serial sections were stained for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba1), and Nissl. AC stimulation induced a mild superficial increase in c-Fos immunoreactivity. However, tTIS stimulation globally decreased the number of c-Fos-positive neurons and increased blood brain barrier cell immunoreactivity. tTIS also had a stronger effect around the electrode placement area and preserved neuronal activation better in restricted areas of the deep brain (directional stimulation). The enhanced activation of intramural blood vessels’ cells and perivascular astrocytes suggests that low-frequency interference (10 Hz) may also have a trophic effect.

ABSTRACT: Lower Rate of Penetration (ROP) is one of the key challenges while drilling through deeper hard rock formations to access geothermal reservoirs in an advanced geothermal system (AGS). Rotary percussive drilling (RPD) becomes crucial for such systems in increasing ROP. The transferability of hammer drilling operations in deeper and harder rock formations, the mechanisms behind the improved drilling performance, and a nuanced understanding of the drilling dynamics of the method remains to be a critical challenge for a full-scale application of RPD in advanced geothermal systems. This study addresses these challenges through experimental validation of a developed bit performance index (BPI) model. The BPI model was developed using a reward function, the outcome is either rewarded or penalized. The concept of reward function usually exists in optimization and machine learning models. Using the combination of bit geometry, RPM, and hammer frequency, the function predicts optimum drilling dynamic parameters to maximize the ROP under given conditions. A series of experiments, limited to atmospheric pressure and ambient confining stress, were conducted using state-of-the-art hammer drop equipment developed in the laboratory to validate BPI, using dome-shaped diamond percussion inserts on granite rock samples. Efficiency estimates and volume removed by impacting the rock surface at different locations while moving away from the center of the crater were determined through these experiments. The results followed the BPI model – maximum efficiency and volume removal at the edge of the crater as compared with impacts at the center and center-edge. This study provides a novel approach to the characterization of drilling performance using RPD and gives a pathway for improved drilling performance through optimization of drillstring dynamics in deeper, harder rock formations for geothermal well drilling. 1. Introduction Rotary Percussion Drilling (RPD) had been widely used in the industry, before the introduction of rotary rigs in the mid-1930s, for its potential to drill faster in hard formations like granites. In RPD, a down-the-hole hammer is driven by either air or fluid (water) through drill pipes, which also acts as a cleaning mechanism for downhole cuttings.

Atrial fibrillation has been associated with higher morbidity and mortality rates in acute ischemic stroke patients (AIS). However, there is scarce information regarding the clinical outcomes and strokes' characteristics among AIS patients with other type of arrhythmias.Our study aims to analyze the hospital mortality rate, stroke characteristics, and clinical and demographical data of patients with any post-stroke arrhythmia.Retrospective cohort study of AIS patients with 24h-Holter monitoring during hospital admission recruited between 2015-2020, outcomes were measured using the modified Rankin scale.597 patients (61.13±13.61 years; 352 men) were included. Arrhythmias were diagnosed in 33 (5.5%), with atrial fibrillation as the most common finding (82%). Age was related to a higher rate of arrhythmia (P = 0.014). A larger prevalence of cardioembolic strokes (69.7% vs 16.6%, P0.05) and AIS in the middle cerebral artery's vascular territory (78.8% vs 58.7%, P0.05) were found amongst patients with an arrhythmia. No significant association was found between NIHSS at admission with neither incidence of arrhythmia nor mortality. Within the arrhythmia group, three in-hospital deaths were reported: one AF, one ventricular arrhythmia and one second-degree atrioventricular block. In a logistic regression analysis, patients with any kind of arrhythmia had a higher mortality rate (9.1% vs 1.2%, P = 0.011; OR 6.766, 95% CI 1.552 - 29.500).Arrhythmia detection after an AIS was associated with increased in-hospital mortality. Risk factors related to arrhythmia detection were a higher mean age, cardioembolic strokes and AIS affecting the middle cerebral artery.

Ribosome dysfunction underlies the pathogenesis of many cancers and heritable ribosomopathies. Here, we investigate how mutations in either ribosomal protein large (RPL) or ribosomal protein small (RPS) subunit genes selectively affect erythroid progenitor development and clinical phenotypes in Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA), a rare ribosomopathy with limited therapeutic options. Using single-cell assays of patient-derived bone marrow, we delineated two distinct cellular trajectories segregating with ribosomal protein genotypes. Almost complete loss of erythroid specification was observed in RPS-DBA. In contrast, we observed relative preservation of qualitatively abnormal erythroid progenitors and precursors in RPL-DBA. Although both DBA genotypes exhibited a proinflammatory bone marrow milieu, RPS-DBA was characterized by erythroid differentiation arrest, whereas RPL-DBA was characterized by preserved GATA1 expression and activity. Compensatory stress erythropoiesis in RPL-DBA exhibited disordered differentiation underpinned by an altered glucocorticoid molecular signature, including reduced ZFP36L2 expression, leading to milder anemia and improved corticosteroid response. This integrative analysis approach identified distinct pathways of erythroid failure and defined genotype-phenotype correlations in DBA. These findings may help facilitate therapeutic target discovery.

Introduction/Background* HPV clearance and resolution of cervical HPV-dependent lesions become difficult in peri and postmenopausal women. The objective of this sub-analysis was to evaluate the effect of the Papilocare®, a multi-ingredient Coriolus versicolor-based vaginal gel in repairing the HPV-dependent low-grade cervical lesions in women over 40 years. Methodology Paloma study (ClinicalTrials gov NCT04002154) was a multicenter, randomized, open-label, parallel-group, watchful waiting approach-controlled clinical trial. Unvaccinated HPV positive women aged between 30-65 with cytology of ASCUS or LSIL and concordant colposcopy image were randomized into 3 groups: A) Papilocare® 1 cannula/day for 1 month + 1 cannula/alternate days for 5 months; B) Papilocare® 1 cannula/day for 3 months + 1 cannula/alternate days for 3 months; C) Control group: watchful waiting approach (usual clinical practice). Primary endpoint:% of patients with normal cytology and concordant colposcopy after 6 months of treatment in the total population, high-risk (HR) HPV (16,18,31,33,35,39,45,51,52,56,58,59,68) and very HR HPV (patients infected by any combination of 16, 18 and 31) subpopulations. Pap smear evaluations were blind and centrally conducted by an independent researcher at the IECM laboratory (Lugo, Spain). Papilocare® arms (A+B) were combined as treatment group. Result(s)* A total of 38 out of 84 evaluable patients at 6 months included in Paloma trial were above 40yo [mean(SD) age: 47.71(5.56)], of which 30 and 13 were HR HPV and 16-18-31 HPV patients, respectively. At 6 months, normal cytology and concordant colposcopy was observed in 92%, 90% and 75% of patients treated with Papilocare® vs 50%, 33% and 40% of patients in control group, in the total, HR and 16-18-31 populations (p=0.0066; p=0.0031; p=0.2929, Fisher test) respectively. Conclusion* Papilocare® showed a robust and clinically significant efficacy in repairing cervical HPV lesions in women over 40 years, with a statistically significant difference vs control group in the total and HR populations.

SNP heritability is a fundamental quantity in the genetic analysis of complex traits. For binary phenotypes, in which the continuous distribution of risk in the population is unobserved, observed-scale heritabilities must be transformed to the more interpretable liability-scale. We demonstrate here that the field standard approach for performing the liability conversion can downwardly bias estimates by as much as ∼20% in simulation and ∼30% in real data. These attenuated estimates stem from the standard approach failing to appropriately account for varying levels of ascertainment across the cohorts comprising the meta-analysis. We formally derive a simple procedure for incorporating cohort-specific ascertainment based on the summation of effective sample sizes across the contributing cohorts, and confirm via simulation that it produces unbiased estimates of liability-scale heritability.

Spearman’s observation in 1904 that distinct cognitive functions—such as reasoning, processing speed, and episodic memory—are positively intercorrelated has given rise to over a century of speculation and investigation into their common and domain-specific mechanisms of variation. Here we develop and validate Transcriptome-wide Structural Equation Modeling (T-SEM), a novel method for studying the effects of tissue-specific gene expression within multivariate space. We apply T-SEM to investigate the shared and unique functional genomic characteristics of seven, distinct cognitive traits (N= 11,263–331,679). We identify 184 genes associated with general cognitive function (g), including 10 novel genes not identified in univariate analysis for the individual cognitive traits. We go on to apply Stratified Genomic SEM to identify enrichment forgwithin 29 functional genomic categories. This includes categories indexing the intersection of protein-truncating variant intolerant (PI) genes and specific neuronal cell types, which we also find to be enriched for the genetic covariance betweengand a psychotic disorders factor.

Analiza los procesos de alfabetizacion mediatica de los jovenes a traves de comunidades de practicas en contextos participativos y mediante el uso de discursos digitales que posibilitan la creacion de universos transmedia. Metodologia. Combina tecnica de recogida de datos cualitativos mediante la investigacion-accion, la etnografia virtual y los metodos visuales. Resultados. Reconstruyen el sistema de actividad de un taller de creacion audiovisual dirigido a adolescentes entre 8 y 14 anos en un laboratorio ciudadano. Conclusiones. Reflexiona sobre las estrategias no formales de educacion mediatica, los roles que adoptan los jovenes como usuarios de redes sociales y la creacion de contenidos transmedia basados en la experiencia de mundos narrativos. EnglishIntroduction. It analyzes the media literacy processes of young people through communities of practice in participatory contexts and through the use of digital discourses that enable the creation of transmedia universes. Methodology. It combines qualitative data collection techniques through action research, virtual ethnography and visual methods. Results They reconstruct the activity system of an audiovisual creation workshop aimed at pre-adolescents and adolescents between 8 and 14 years of age in a citizen laboratory. Conclusion. It reflects on non-formal strategies of media education, the roles that young people adopt as users of social networks and the creation of transmedia content based on the experience of narrative worlds.

Marine pollution, overrepresented by plastic, is a growing concern worldwide. However, there is little knowledge on occurrence and detrimental impacts of marine debris in cetaceans. To partially fill in this gap of knowledge, we aimed to investigate the occurrence and pathologies associated with foreign bodies (FBs) in a large cohort of cetaceans (n = 465) stranded in the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands shelter the greatest cetacean biodiversity in Europe, with up to 30 different species, of which nine are regularly present year around. We found at least one ingested FB in 36 out of 465 (7.74%) studied cetaceans, involving 15 different species, including eight out of the nine (80%) cetacean species present year-round in the Canary Islands. Risso's dolphin was the species most affected, followed by sperm whale, beaked whale and mysticetes. Plastic FB were the most common item found (80.56%). FB was directly associated with death in 13/36 (36.11%) animals. Poor body condition and deep diving behavior were found to be risk factors for FB ingestion, whereas the adult age was a protective factor. To the authors knowledge this is the first study that use statistical analysis to investigate risk and protective factors for FB ingestion. This study also provides insights of the potential impact caused by ingested FBs on the animal's health and mortality. This knowledge is critical to better understand and assess the impact of FB in cetaceans setting the scientific basis for prospective impact monitoring and future conservation policies.

Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) is a poor-prognosis childhood leukemia usually caused by RAS-pathway mutations. The cellular hierarchy in JMML is poorly characterized, including the identity of leukemia stem cells (LSCs). FACS and single-cell RNA sequencing reveal marked heterogeneity of JMML hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs), including an aberrant Lin−CD34+CD38−CD90+CD45RA+ population. Single-cell HSPC index-sorting and clonogenic assays show that (1) all somatic mutations can be backtracked to the phenotypic HSC compartment, with RAS-pathway mutations as a “first hit,” (2) mutations are acquired with both linear and branching patterns of clonal evolution, and (3) mutant HSPCs are present after allogeneic HSC transplant before molecular/clinical evidence of relapse. Stem cell assays reveal interpatient heterogeneity of JMML LSCs, which are present in, but not confined to, the phenotypic HSC compartment. RNA sequencing of JMML LSC reveals up-regulation of stem cell and fetal genes (HLF, MEIS1, CNN3, VNN2, and HMGA2) and candidate therapeutic targets/biomarkers (MTOR, SLC2A1, and CD96), paving the way for LSC-directed disease monitoring and therapy in this disease.

Transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia (TDT) and sickle cell disease (SCD) are the most common inherited hematologic disorders, affecting approximately 60,000 and 300,000 patients worldwide, respectively. Current therapies, including red blood cell (RBC) transfusion and iron chelation in TDT and transfusion, pain management, and hydroxyurea in SCD, help to manage the disorders but do not address the underlying cause. Drug therapies, such as crizanlizumab and luspatercept, have also helped to reduce the need for transfusion in TDT patients and the incidence of vaso-occlusive episodes in SCD patients. Allogeneic bone marrow transplantationmay be a curative option, but finding an appropriate donor is difficult. An association has been observed between elevated levels of fetal hemoglobin and improved morbidity and mortality in these patients. Downregulating BCL11A, a transcription factor that blocks fetal hemoglobin in erythroid cells, may help to increase fetal hemoglobin levels and improve outcomes. Using the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technique, CTX001, an investigational drug, was infused in 2 patients. Since the onset of the pandemic, there have been many instances of human-to-animal transmission involving companion, farmed and zoo animals, and limited evidence for spread into free-living wildlife. The establishment of reservoirs of infection in wild animals would create significant challenges to infection control in humans and could pose a threat to the welfare and conservation status of wildlife. We discuss the potential for exposure, onward transmission and persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in an initial selection of wild mammals (bats, canids, felids, mustelids, great apes, rodents and cervids). Dynamic risk assessment and targeted surveillance are important tools for the early detection of infection in wildlife, and here we describe a framework for collating and synthesising emerging information to inform targeted surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 in wildlife. Surveillance efforts should be integrated with information from public and veterinary health initiatives to provide insights into the potential role of wild mammals in the epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2.

Background Cellulitis, a frequent cause of admission of adult patients to medical wards, occasionally evolves to sepsis. In this study we analyze the factors related to sepsis development. Methods Prospective and observational study of 606 adult patients with cellulitis admitted to several Spanish hospitals. Comorbidities, microbiological, clinical, lab, diagnostic, and treatment data were analyzed. Sepsis was diagnosed according to the criteria of the 2016 International Sepsis Definitions Conference. Multiple logistic regression modelling was performed to determine the variables independently associated with sepsis development. Results Mean age was 63.4 years and 51.8% were men. Overall 65 (10.7%) patients developed sepsis, 7 (10.8%) of whom died, but only 4 (6.2%) due to cellulitis. Drawing of blood (P P = 0.005) were more likely among patients with sepsis. These patients had also a longer duration of symptoms (P = 0.04), higher temperature (P = 0.03), more extensive cellulitis (P = 0.02), higher leukocyte (P P P = 0.001), and CRP (P = 0.008) than patients without sepsis. Regarding therapy, patients with sepsis were more likely to undergo changes in the initial antimicrobial regimen (P P P = 0.03), and underwent surgery more commonly (P = 0.01) than patients without sepsis. Leukocyte counts (P = 0.002), serum creatinine (P = 0.003), drawing of blood cultures (P = 0.004), change of the initial antimicrobial regimen (P = 0.007) and length of cellulitis (P = 0.009) were independently associated with sepsis development in the multivariate analysis. Conclusions Increased blood leukocytes and serum creatinine, blood culture drawn, modification of the initial antimicrobial regimen, and maximum length of cellulitis were associated with sepsis in these patients.

Introduction: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) originating from Wuhan, China, is spreading around the world. Apart from respiratory, cardiac and vascular complications, acute neurological symptoms and acute cerebrovascular disease have also been observed.Methods: A 36 year old female with severe cerebral stroke and COVID pneumonia and its clinical characteristics and evolution are described. Results of two retrospective studies about the incidence of Cerebrovascular Disease (CVD) amongst the positive cases for the new coronavirus are shown. An evaluation of the relationship between CVD and previous infections, their stational distribution, and the possible causes of this damage out of the brain is described.Result: Yanan Li, et al found a 6% of CVD. Ling Mao, et al showed a 5% only amongst the patients defined as severe. Non-severe patients had a 0.8 % incidence. These authors found that in patients with more risk factors that could present more often a severe disease and CVD, some of these factors could in fact be common for a pneumonia or stroke.We could observe that respiratory infections are described risk factors for CVD, especially for cervico-cerebral Artery Dissections (CAD). The seasonal variation also suggests a possible association.It is not well known how the new coronavirus spreads through the human body from the lungs. A possible triggering mechanism might be through the interaction with the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme-2 (ACE-2) or the cytokine cascade that could create blood coagulation disorders.Conclusion: At this stage of the pandemic, we do not yet know much about the ability of the new coronavirus to produce CVD. This single case report only suggests a possible association between COVID-19 and CVD. More cases with epidemiological data are required to confirm and measure this association, although the role of infections in CVD through a not well-defined mechanism has been described frequently.

Biting midges of the genus Culicoides are known vectors of arboviruses affecting human and animal health. However, little is known about Culicoides imicola microbiota and its influence on this insect's biology. In this study, the impact of biotic and abiotic factors on C. imicola microbiota was characterized using shotgun-metagenomic sequencing of whole-body DNA samples. Wild-caught C. imicola adult nulliparous females were sampled in two locations from Sicily, Italy. The climatic variables of temperature and soil moisture from both localities were recorded together with potential host bloodmeal sources. Shared core microbiome among C. imicola populations included Pseudomonas, Escherichia, Halomonas, Candidatus Zinderia, Propionibacterium, and Schizosaccharomyces. Specific and unique taxa were also found in C. imicola from each location, highlighting similarities and differences in microbiome composition between the two populations. DNA and protein identification showed differences in host preferences between the two populations, with Homo sapiens and Canis lupus familiaris L. being the preferred bloodmeal source in both locations. A principal component analysis showed that the combined effect of host preferences (H. sapiens) and local soil moisture factors shape the microbiome composition of wild-caught populations of C. imicola. These results contribute to characterizing the role of the microbiome in insect adaptation and its utility in predicting geographic expansion of Culicoides species with potential implications for the control of vector-borne diseases.

To establish a high-resolution US technique that enables a systematic morphometric examination of the three components that form the distal biceps brachii tendinous complex; the internal bicipital aponeurosis, the distal biceps brachii tendon and the external bicipital aponeurosis (also known as lacertus fibrosus). Fifty cryopreserved cadaver body donor elbows were dissected to obtain morphometric reference values and to establish reliable landmarks for the US examination. Then, a systematic US technique was designed and validated by a one-to-one US/dissection analysis of 11 cryopreserved cadaver body donor elbows. Finally, the systematic US technique was carried out in 44 healthy volunteers and morphometric parameters were compared to those obtained in the first part of the study. Mean dissection reference values: internal bicipital aponeurosis width 39.61 mm (10.02 SD) and thickness 0.75 mm (0.24 SD), distal biceps brachii tendon width 8.38 mm (1.87 SD) and thickness 2.73 mm (0.69 SD), external bicipital aponeurosis width 11.17 mm (5.84 SD) and thickness 0.85 mm (0.28 SD). Introduction/Background To evaluate the efficacy of Papilocare® -a Coriolus versicolor-based vaginal gel- in repairing HPV-dependent cervical lesions (ASCUS/LSIL) and in the clearance of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV). Methodology Randomized, open-label, parallel-group, controlled clinical trial (Paloma Clinical Trial). HPV+ women aged between 30 and 65 with cytology of ASCUS or LSIL with concordant colposcopy image were randomized into 3 groups: A) Papilocare®1 cannula/day for 1 month + 1 cannula/alternate days for 5 months; B) Papilocare®1 cannula/day for 3 months + 1 cannula/alternate days for 3 months; C) Control group: no treatment (usual clinical practice). Main results of the Paloma trial are presented: Percentage of patients with normal cytology and concordant colposcopy image at 6 months (primary endpoint), and percentage of patients with HR-HPV clearance at 6 months (clearance: total and partial clearance with concordant cytological normalization). Pap smear evaluation was being centrally-conducted at the IECM laboratory (Lugo, Spain). Papilocare® arms (A+B) were combined for this per-protocol analysis. Results A total of 84 all HPV genotype patients (total population) of which 66 with High Risk -HPV (HR-HPV subpopulation) were evaluated. In the total population, 85% (45/53) of patients treated with Papilocare® had normal cytology with concordant colposcopy vs. 65% (20/31) in control group (p=0.0311; Chi-square test; figure 1). In the HR-HPV subpopulation, normal cytology and concordant colposcopy image was observed in 88% (36/41) of patients treated with Papilocare® vs 56% (14/25) of control group patients (p=0.0034; Chi-square test; figure 2). HR-HPV clearance was observed in 63% (25/40) vs 40% (10/24) of patients treated with Papilocare® vs. control group (p=0.07; Chi-square), respectively. Conclusion Papilocare showed a statistically significant efficacy in normalizing HPV-dependent cervical lesions (ASCUS/LSIL) versus control group. The normalization rate of HPV-dependent lesions was even higher in the HR-HPV subpopulation, in which a positive trend in HR-HPV clearance was also observed at 6 months. It is also well known that pre-cancerous cervical lesions persist longer and progress quickly in women infected by high-risk HPV than in women with non-oncogenic HPV strains. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Papilocare® -a Coriolus versicolor-based vaginal gel- in repairing HPV-dependent cervical lesions (ASCUS/LSIL) in three groups of patients according to the oncogenic potential of HPV strains. Methodology Randomized, open-label, parallel-group, controlled clinical trial (Paloma Clinical Trial). HPV+ women aged between 30 and 65 with cytology of ASCUS or LSIL with concordant colposcopy image were randomized into 3 groups. Results A total of 84, 66 and 29 patients corresponding to total population, and high-risk and 16-18-31 subpopulations were evaluated, respectively. At 6 months, normal cytology and concordant colposcopy image was observed in 85% (45/53), 88% (36/41) and 73% (11/15) of patients treated with Papilocare® vs 65% (20/31), 56% (14/25) and 43% (6/14) of patients in control group, in the total population, and high-risk and 16-18-31 subpopulations (p=0.0311; p=0.0034; p=0.0959, chi-square test; figure1) respectively. Conclusion While the spontaneous normalizations of HPV-dependent cervical lesions clearly decreased according to the risk of HPV strains (Total population = 65%, HR-HPV=56%, and HPV-16-18-31=42%), the robust efficacy of Papilocare in normalizing cervical lesions was maintained in the 3 patients groups with statistically significant difference versus control. Introduction. The purpose of this study was to empirically confirm two conceptual interactions proposed by the IATLP Scales: (1) the combination of the teacher’s regulatory teaching and the student’s self-regulated learning, in order to produce satisfaction with learning; (2) the relationship of this interaction with students’ prior self-regulation.Method. The sample included 2,429 undergraduate students enrolled in education or psychology programs at three universities. Two measures were used: (1) perception of the teaching-learning process, through four subscales from the Interactive Assessment of the Teaching-Learning Process (IATLP), and (2) personal self-regulation, through the Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ). Using a structural equation and correlational design, the study examined the relations between teaching variables, learning variables and students’ outcomes following the presage-process-product paradigm.Results. The results offer evidence for a consistent, first- and second-order empirical model (with thirteen and four factors, respectively); and significantly confirm the proposed conceptual theoretical model, suggesting that regulatory teaching was strongly linked to self-regulated learning and to students’ successful outcomes. The correlations between personal self-regulation and the proposed model were statistically significant.Discussion. The principles of regulatory teaching are also addressed, being derived from instructional strategies and principles of self-regulated learning.

In the present study, we investigated the effect of dietary supplementation with microalgae rich in DHA (C226n3) on the fatty acid composition of different fat deposits and muscles in light lambs. Two dietary treatments were studied control (CT) and microalgae (MT), containing 2% of DHA- rich microalgae. Dietary incorporation of microalgae modified fatty acid composition in all anatomical locations studied (intramuscular, subcutaneous and kidney knob and channel fat); however, intramuscular fat was the most affected deposit. Intramuscular fat of MT lambs had higher levels of DHA (3.35%) and total n3 fatty acids (5.71%), than that of CT lambs (0.25 and 1.23% respectively). Dietary supplementation with microalgae produced a greater proportion of DHA and total n3 in M. Infraspinatus (IM) (5.12 and 8.13% respectively) compared with M. Longissimus (LM) (3.35 and 5.71% respectively) and M. Psoas major (PM) (3.62 and 6.24% respectively). Dietary supplementation with microalgae enhanced the nutritional quality of lamb muscle with more favourable PUFA/SFA and n6/n3 ratios in conjunction with increased levels of DHA and total n3 fatty acids. © 2016 Elsevier Inc.

With the development in recent years of augmented reality and the appearance of new mobile terminals and storage bases on-line, we find the possibility of using a powerful tool for transmitting architecture. This paper analyzes the relationship between Augmented Reality and Architecture. Firstly, connects the theoretical framework of both disciplines through the Representation concept. Secondly, describes the milestones and possibilities of Augmented Reality in the particular field of archaeological reconstruction. And lastly, once recognized the technology developed, we face the same analysis from a critical point of view, assessing their suitability to the discipline that concerns us is the architecture and within archeology.

Mosquitoes are important vectors of several pathogens and thereby contribute to the spread of diseases, with social, economic and public health impacts. Amongst the approximately 450 species of Anopheles, about 60 are recognized as vectors of human malaria, the most important parasitic disease. In Africa, Anopheles gambiae is the main malaria vector mosquito. Current malaria control strategies are largely focused on drugs and vector control measures such as insecticides and bed-nets. Improvement of current, and the development of new, mosquito-targeted malaria control methods rely on a better understanding of mosquito vector biology. An organism's transcriptome is a reflection of its physiological state and transcriptomic analyses of different conditions that are relevant to mosquito vector competence can therefore yield important information. Transcriptomic analyses have contributed significant information on processes such as blood-feeding parasite-vector interaction, insecticide resistance, and tissue- and stage-specific gene regulation, thereby facilitating the path towards the development of new malaria control methods. Here, we discuss the main applications of transcriptomic analyses in An. gambiae that have led to a better understanding of mosquito vector competence.
