Abstract: We present the results of the first search for gravitational wave bursts associated with high energy neutrinos. Together, these messengers could reveal new, hidden sources that are not observed by conventional photon astronomy, particularly at high energy. Our search uses neutrinos detected by the underwater neutrino telescope ANTARES in its 5 line configuration during the period January - September 2007, which coincided with the fifth and first science runs of LIGO and Virgo, respectively. The LIGO-Virgo data were analysed for candidate gravitational-wave signals coincident in time and direction with the neutrino events. No significant coincident events were observed. We place limits on the density of joint high energy neutrino - gravitational wave emission events in the local universe, and compare them with densities of merger and core-collapse events., Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, science summary page at http://www.ligo.org/science/Publication-S5LV_ANTARES/index.php. Abstract: Abstract KM3NeT/ORCA is a water Cherenkov neutrino detector under construction and anchored at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The detector is designed to study oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos and determine the neutrino mass ordering. This paper focuses on an initial configuration of ORCA, referred to as ORCA6, which comprises six out of the foreseen 115 detection units of photo-sensors. A high-purity neutrino sample was extracted, corresponding to an exposure of 433 kton-years. The sample of 5828 neutrino candidates is analysed following a binned log-likelihood method in the reconstructed energy and cosine of the zenith angle. The atmospheric oscillation parameters are measured to be sin 2 θ 23 = 0.51 − 0.05 + 0.04 $$ {\sin}^2{\theta}_{23}={0.51}_{-0.05}^{+0.04} $$ , and Δ m 31 2 = 2.18 − 0.35 + 0.25 × 10 − 3 eV 2 ∪ − 2.25 − 1.76 × 10 − 3 $$ \Delta {m}_{31}^2={2.18}_{-0.35}^{+0.25}\times {10}^{-3}{\textrm{eV}}^2\cup \left\{-2.25,-1.76\right\}\times {10}^{-3} $$ eV2 at 68% CL. The inverted neutrino mass ordering hypothesis is disfavoured with a p-value of 0.25.

Abstract: Abstract The KM3NeT/ARCA neutrino detector is currently under construction at 3500 m depth offshore Capo Passero, Sicily, in the Mediterranean Sea. The main science objectives are the detection of high-energy cosmic neutrinos and the discovery of their sources. Simulations were conducted for the full KM3NeT/ARCA detector, instrumenting a volume of 1 km $$^3$$ 3 , to estimate the sensitivity and discovery potential to point-like neutrino sources. This paper covers the reconstruction of track- and shower-like signatures, as well as the criteria employed for neutrino event selection. With an angular resolution below 0.1 $$^\circ $$ ∘ for tracks and under 2 $$^\circ $$ ∘ for showers, the sensitivity to point-like neutrino sources surpasses existing observed limits across the entire sky.

Abstract: Abstract The measurement of the flux of muons produced in cosmic ray air showers is essential for the study of primary cosmic rays. Such measurements are important in extensive air shower detectors to assess the energy spectrum and the chemical composition of the cosmic ray flux, complementary to the information provided by fluorescence detectors. Detailed simulations of the cosmic ray air showers are carried out, using codes such as CORSIKA, to estimate the muon flux at sea level. These simulations are based on the choice of hadronic interaction models, for which improvements have been implemented in the post-LHC era. In this work, a deficit in simulations that use state-of-the-art QCD models with respect to the measurement deep underwater with the KM3NeT neutrino detectors is reported. The KM3NeT/ARCA and KM3NeT/ORCA neutrino telescopes are sensitive to TeV muons originating mostly from primary cosmic rays with energies around 10 TeV. The predictions of state-of-the-art QCD models show that the deficit with respect to the data is constant in zenith angle; no dependency on the water overburden is observed. The observed deficit at a depth of several kilometres is compatible with the deficit seen in the comparison of the simulations and measurements at sea level.

Abstract: We demonstrate the growth of almost strain-free (10-11) semipolar GaN on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates, with no meltback etching and with a defect density strongly reduced compared to semipolar templates grown on patterned silicon substrates. This is carried out using SOI substrates with a very thin (∼150 nm) 6° off (001) Si top layer. By resorting to very small nucleation (111) facets, revealed through chemical etching of the topmost thin Si layer, we are able to diminish significantly the overall dislocation density. Cathodoluminescence and scanning electron microscopy images at different stages of the growth illustrate how the defect density reduction operates and confirm the complete suppression of meltback etching over the whole 2 in. wafer. Low temperature photoluminescence and optical reflectivity indicate that complete strain relaxation is closely achieved (D0X at 3.473 ± 0.001 eV), compared to semipolar epilayers grown onto "bulk" silicon (D0X at 3.460 eV). Abstract: Introduction Warfarin, despite its limitations, is still used as standard treatment in patients with Atrial Fibrillation, but it has been demonstrated that Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) offer many advantages over warfarin in the prevention of strokes. Purpose The goal was to determinate the safety and effectiveness in reducing systemic thromboembolism, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, cerebral hemorrhage and cardiovascular mortalityof the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) over warfarin in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, conducting an analysis of the studies of DOACs, including the ENGAGE study on the use of edoxaban, affirming its safety including the pivotal essays available. Method A systematic search of PubMed's bibliographic database was made for the selection of the articles.Clinical essays from less than 10 years, in phase III and multicentric studies were selected. Results The main objective was the significant reduction in the incidence of stroke/systemic thromboembolism with the use of DOACs vs. Warfarin (2,73% vs. 3,24%), the reduction of hemorrhagic stroke was (0.41% vs. 0.94%), ischemic stroke (3.12% vs. 3.5%), cardiovascular death with DOACs was 6.02% vs. Warfarin 6.84%, (compared with previous studies that demonstrated effectiveness with max doses affirming safety and effectiveness). Conclusion Our meta-analysis is the first to date to evaluate all the pivotal trials published,we include the ENGAGE trial. In non-valvular atrial fibrillation, the use of DOACs, in comparison with Warfarin, significantly reduced the risk of stroke/systemic thromboembolism by 16.3%, ischemic stroke by 11.1%, hemorrhagic stroke by 54.6%, cardiovascular mortality by 12.9%. Abstract: We demonstrate edge-emitting exciton-polariton (polariton) laser operation from 5 to 300 K and polariton amplifiers based on polariton modes within ZnO waveguides. The guided mode dispersion below and above the lasing threshold is directly measured using gratings placed on top of the sample, fully demonstrating the polaritonic nature of the lasing modes. The threshold is found to be smaller than that expected for radiative polaritons in planar ZnO microcavities below 150 K and comparable above. These results open up broad perspectives for guided polaritonics by enabling easier and more straightforward implementation of polariton integrated circuits that exploit fast propagating polaritons, and, possibly, topological protection., Edge-Emitting Polariton lasers: A step closer to two-dimensional all-optical devices A type of laser that can propagate along tiny, two-dimensional horizontal cavities in semiconductor materials at room temperature could be used in novel all-optical devices. Polaritons are quasi-particles created from the resonant coupling of light (photons) and matter (electron-hole pairs, or ‘excitons’) in tiny enclosed spaces, such as the microcavities fabricated from semiconductor materials. Polariton lasers could enable researchers to build energy-efficient, compact all-optical devices. Guillaume Malpuech at the Institut Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and co-workers have designed a new type of polariton laser and amplifier operating at room temperature. Their design does not require the use of a microcavity but is based on the use of the polariton guided modes of a ZnO layer. This horizontal, guided geometry is appealing because it is easy to fabricate and to integrate in two-dimensional optical circuits.

Abstract: Abstract This article reports the first observation of the Moon and the Sun shadows in the sky distribution of cosmic-ray induced muons measured by the KM3NeT/ORCA detector. The analysed data-taking period spans from February 2020 to November 2021, when the detector had 6 Detection Units deployed at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, each composed of 18 Digital Optical Modules. The shadows induced by the Moon and the Sun were detected at their nominal position with a statistical significance of 4.2 $$\sigma $$ σ and 6.2 $$\sigma $$ σ , and an angular resolution of $$\sigma _{res}=0.49^\circ $$ σ res = 0 . 49 ∘ and $$\sigma _{res}=0.66^\circ $$ σ res = 0 . 66 ∘ , respectively, consistent with the prediction of $$0.53^\circ $$ 0 . 53 ∘ from simulations. This early result confirms the effectiveness of the detector calibration, in time, position and orientation and the accuracy of the event direction reconstruction. This also demonstrates the performance and the competitiveness of the detector in terms of pointing accuracy and angular resolution.

Abstract: Abstract In the era of precision measurements of the neutrino oscillation parameters, upcoming neutrino experiments will also be sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. KM3NeT/ORCA is a neutrino detector optimised for measuring atmospheric neutrinos from a few GeV to around 100 GeV. In this paper, the sensitivity of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector to neutrino decay has been explored. A three-flavour neutrino oscillation scenario, where the third neutrino mass state ν 3 decays into an invisible state, e.g. a sterile neutrino, is considered. We find that KM3NeT/ORCA would be sensitive to invisible neutrino decays with 1/α 3 = τ 3 /m 3 < 180 ps/eV at 90% confidence level, assuming true normal ordering. Finally, the impact of neutrino decay on the precision of KM3NeT/ORCA measurements for θ 23, Δ m 31 2 $$ \Delta {m}_{31}^2 $$ and mass ordering have been studied. No significant effect of neutrino decay on the sensitivity to these measurements has been found.

Abstract: Interactions of cosmic ray protons, atomic nuclei, and electrons in the interstellar medium in the inner part of the Milky Way produce a γ-ray flux from the Galactic Ridge. If the γ-ray emission is dominated by proton and nuclei interactions, a neutrino flux comparable to the γ-ray flux is expected from the same sky region.Data collected by the ANTARES neutrino telescope are used to constrain the neutrino flux from the Galactic Ridge in the 1-100 TeV energy range. Abstract: Active galaxies, especially blazars, are among the most promising extragalactic candidates for high-energy neutrino sources. To date, ANTARES searches included these objects and used GeV–TeV γ -ray flux to select blazars. Here, a statistically complete blazar sample selected by their bright radio emission is used as the target for searches of origins of neutrinos collected by the ANTARES neutrino telescope over 13 yr of operation. The hypothesis of a neutrino–blazar directional correlation is tested by pair counting and a complementary likelihood-based approach. The resulting posttrial p -value is 3.0% (2.2 σ in the two-sided convention). Additionally, a time-dependent analysis is performed to search for temporal clustering of neutrino candidates as a means of detecting neutrino flares in blazars. None of the investigated sources alone reaches a significant flare detection level. However, the presence of 18 sources with a pretrial significance above 3 σ indicates a p = 1.4% (2.5 σ in the two-sided convention) detection of a time-variable neutrino flux. An a posteriori investigation reveals an intriguing temporal coincidence of neutrino, radio, and γ -ray flares of the J0242+1101 blazar at a p = 0.5% (2.9 σ in the two-sided convention) level. Altogether, the results presented here suggest a possible connection of neutrino candidates detected by the ANTARES telescope with radio-bright blazars.

Abstract: Abstract Non-standard interactions of neutrinos arising in many theories beyond the Standard Model can significantly alter matter effects in atmospheric neutrino propagation through the Earth. In this paper, a search for deviations from the prediction of the standard 3-flavour atmospheric neutrino oscillations using the data taken by the ANTARES neutrino telescope is presented. Ten years of atmospheric neutrino data collected from 2007 to 2016, with reconstructed energies in the range from ∼16 GeV to 100 GeV, have been analysed. A log-likelihood ratio test of the dimensionless coefficients ε μτ and ε ττ − ε μμ does not provide clear evidence of deviations from standard interactions. For normal neutrino mass ordering, the combined fit of both coefficients yields a value 1.7σ away from the null result. However, the 68% and 95% confidence level intervals for ε μτ and ε ττ − ε μμ , respectively, contain the null value. Best fit values, one standard deviation errors and bounds at the 90% confidence level for these coefficients are given for both normal and inverted mass orderings. The constraint on ε μτ is among the most stringent to date and it further restrains the strength of possible non-standard interactions in the μ − τ sector.

Abstract: Optical and excitonic properties of ZnO heterostructures are studied in order to observe the strong light-matter coupling in this material as it has been recently demonstrated in GaN. The optical index of ZnO is first studied as a function of wavelength through spectroscopic ellipsometric and reflectivity experiments on ZnO layers grown by molecular beam epitaxy and deposited on two different substrates: sapphire and silicon with an AlN buffer layer. The main features of the excitons: energy, oscillator strength and broadening are deduced. From the knowledge of these properties, a microcavity is then designed. The ZnO active layer is embedded between AlGaN/AlN and dielectric Bragg mirrors. The calculation of the reflectivity spectra as a function of the incident angle attests the strong coupling and a large Rabi splitting of 110 meV is expected in such a cavity.

Abstract: Dendritic cells (DCs) are a highly heterogeneous population that plays a critical role in host defense. We previously demonstrated that virus infection induces bone marrow (BM) plasmacytoid (p)DCs differentiation into CD11b+ conventional (c)DCs upon in vitro culture with Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (Flt3L). Here we use immunoglobulin D-J rearrangements and pDC adoptive transfer to provide definitive proof supporting BM pDC conversion into CD11b+ cDCs during in vivo viral infection. We show that in vivo BM pDC conversion into CD11b+ cDCs relates to enhanced ability to prime virus specific T cells. Furthermore, we demonstrate that in vivo pDC conversion does not rely on viral infection of BM pDCs, but instead, is mediated by type I interferon (IFN-I) signaling. Finally, by exploiting recently identified pDC specific Abs, we provide further characterizations of the BM pDC fraction that exhibits this broader developmental plasticity. Collectively, these data indicate that BM pDCs actively contribute to the CD11b+ cDC pool during in vivo viral infection and delineates molecular, functional, and phenotypic features of this novel developmental pathway.

Abstract: We consider the problem of giving explicit spectral bounds for time inhomogeneous Markov chains on a finite state space. We give bounds that apply when there exists a probability π such that each of the different steps corresponds to a nice ergodic Markov kernel with stationary measure π. For instance, our results provide sharp bounds for models such as semi-random transpositions and semi-random insertions (in these cases π is the uniform probability on the symmetric group).

Abstract: ZnO films were grown on GaAs(100), GaAs(111)A and GaAs(111)B substrates by metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD). Diethylzinc (DEZn) and tertiarybutanol (t-butanol) were used as Zn and O precursors, respectively. The influence of the growth temperature and GaAs substrate orientation on the crystalline orientation and morphology of the ZnO grown films has been analysed. Crystallinity of grown films was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD); thickness and morphology of ZnO films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM results reveal significant differences between morphologies depending on growth temperature but not significant differences were detected on the texture of grown films.

Abstract: Abstract The KM3NeT research infrastructure is unconstruction in the Mediterranean Sea. KM3NeT will study atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos with two multi-purpose neutrino detectors, ARCA and ORCA, primarily aimed at GeV–PeV neutrinos. Thanks to the multi-photomultiplier tube design of the digital optical modules, KM3NeT is capable of detecting the neutrino burst from a Galactic or near-Galactic core-collapse supernova. This potential is already exploitable with the first detection units deployed in the sea. This paper describes the real-time implementation of the supernova neutrino search, operating on the two KM3NeT detectors since the first months of 2019. A quasi-online astronomy analysis is introduced to study the time profile of the detected neutrinos for especially significant events. The mechanism of generation and distribution of alerts, as well as the integration into the SNEWS and SNEWS 2.0 global alert systems, are described. The approach for the follow-up of external alerts with a search for a neutrino excess in the archival data is defined. Finally, an overview of the current detector capabilities and a report after the first two years of operation are given.

Abstract: Abstract This article presents the potential of a combined analysis of the JUNO and KM3NeT/ORCA experiments to determine the neutrino mass ordering. This combination is particularly interesting as it significantly boosts the potential of either detector, beyond simply adding their neutrino mass ordering sensitivities, by removing a degeneracy in the determination of ∆ m 31 2 $$ {m}_{31}^2 $$ between the two experiments when assuming the wrong ordering. The study is based on the latest projected performances for JUNO, and on simulation tools using a full Monte Carlo approach to the KM3NeT/ORCA response with a careful assessment of its energy systematics. From this analysis, a 5σ determination of the neutrino mass ordering is expected after 6 years of joint data taking for any value of the oscillation parameters. This sensitivity would be achieved after only 2 years of joint data taking assuming the current global best-fit values for those parameters for normal ordering.

Abstract: A molecular dynamics simulation of 4, 4'-dichlorobiphenyl sulfone was carried out in order to study the phase transition from a normal to incommensurate modulated phase observed experimentally. Agreements of simulated and experimental diffraction patterns and lattice constants indicates that the simulation is able to well reproduce the normal-incommensurate phase transition. The incommensurate modulation is found to originate from large-scale fluctuations in the displacements of the molecules.

Abstract: Following the general model proposed for the series of compounds Sr n (Nb,Ti) n O3n + 2 , the recently determined structure of the related compound NaCa 4 Nb 5 O 17 has been re-analyzed in superspace and refined using a set of crenel occupational functions. The atomic positions in real space can be described using eight independent atomic domains with smooth modulations under the superpace monoclinic symmetry X112 1 /b(α β 0) (X standing for the centring translations generated from (3/4 1/2 0 1/4)), and with modulation wave vector q = 1/12 b* (α = 0, β = 1/12). A refinement performed with the JANA2000 program using the same experimental data as the standard three-dimensional refinement gave indeed equivalent results. The superspace approach, however, reduced the number of structural variables.

29. PROCESSING TOMATO PASTE CULTIVARS IN NAVARRA

Abstract: Processing tomatoes represent the most important agricultural food crop in the province of Navarra in the north of Spain. The largest mean yield per hectare ever for this crop was registered in Navarra in the 2001 season: over 68 t/ha. 2.266 hectares were given over to this crop and total yield reached 155.246 t (60% for tomato paste), nearly all of which was harvested using mechanical methods. The present study involved thirty cultivars divided into two groups according to date of harvest. The first group consisted of earlier cultivars with 115-day cycles: Perfectpeel, ZU-249, CXD-220, Ruphus, Odin, Red Summer, Falcorosso, J-8150, RS-2018, Premium, Monti, SF-903, Elegi, To-0920, AR-35356, Tarim and DR-10134. The second group consisted of cultivars with cycles of 124 days: H-9036, PS-227716, H-9144, YU-618, WSX-28, H-9665, H-9553, NPT-4, Cumbia, Pizarro, Forum, NPT-10 and UC-82. With a mean yield of 162.6 t/ha (92% commercial red), yield results proved highly satisfactory, significant differences between cultivars being observed. Perfectpeel, H-9036, PS-227716, ZU-279, CXD-220, H-9144 and Ruphus all stood out for their high yield, while AR-35356, Tarim, Forum, DR-10134 and NPT-10 gave the lowest yield figures. In terms of fruit calibre, mean weight for most cultivars ranged from 60 to 75g. Colour and pH uniformity can be highlighted in the field of industrial quality, while highly variable measures were witnessed in terms of consistency. In general, lower °Brix figures were noted this season in comparison with previous years; 4.5 °Brix.

Abstract: Abstract The next generation of water Cherenkov neutrino telescopes in the Mediterranean Sea are under construction offshore France (KM3NeT/ORCA) and Sicily (KM3NeT/ARCA). The KM3NeT/ORCA detector features an energy detection threshold which allows to collect atmospheric neutrinos to study flavour oscillation. This paper reports the KM3NeT/ORCA sensitivity to this phenomenon. The event reconstruction, selection and classification are described. The sensitivity to determine the neutrino mass ordering was evaluated and found to be 4.4 $$\sigma $$ σ if the true ordering is normal and 2.3 $$\sigma $$ σ if inverted, after 3 years of data taking. The precision to measure $$\varDelta m^2_{32}$$ Δ m 32 2 and $$\theta _{23}$$ θ 23 were also estimated and found to be $$85 . 10^{-6}~{\mathrm{eV}^{2}}$$ 85 . 10 - 6 eV 2 and $$(^{+1.9}_{-3.1})^{\circ }$$ ( - 3.1 + 1.9 ) ∘ for normal neutrino mass ordering and, $$75 . 10^{-6}~{\mathrm{eV}^{2}}$$ 75 . 10 - 6 eV 2 and $$(^{+2.0}_{-7.0})^{\circ }$$ ( - 7.0 + 2.0 ) ∘ for inverted ordering. Finally, a unitarity test of the leptonic mixing matrix by measuring the rate of tau neutrinos is described. Three years of data taking were found to be sufficient to exclude event rate variations larger than 20% at $$3\sigma $$ 3 σ level.

Abstract: Article abstract Predisposition to MS is associated with the HLA-DR2 antigen in white patients. The authors investigated the genetic factors behind the increasing frequency of MS in the Mexican population. HLA-DR and DQ were analyzed in 17 patients with MS, 15 of their first-degree relatives, and 99 healthy ethnically matched controls. DR2 or DR3 was found in 15 of 17 patients. In controls, both alleles had frequencies less than 0.05. MS in Mexican patients was associated with HLA-DR2 and DR3.

Abstract: Abstract KM3NeT/ORCA is a next-generation neutrino telescope optimised for atmospheric neutrino oscillations studies. In this paper, the sensitivity of ORCA to the presence of a light sterile neutrino in a 3+1 model is presented. After three years of data taking, ORCA will be able to probe the active-sterile mixing angles θ 14, θ 24, θ 34 and the effective angle θ μe , over a broad range of mass squared difference ∆ m 41 2 $$ \Delta {m}_{41}^2 $$ ∼ [10 −5 , 10] eV2, allowing to test the eV-mass sterile neutrino hypothesis as the origin of short baseline anomalies, as well as probing the hypothesis of a very light sterile neutrino, not yet constrained by cosmology. ORCA will be able to explore a relevant fraction of the parameter space not yet reached by present measurements.

Abstract: International audience; Sodium tetracalcium pentaniobium heptadecaoxide, NaCa4Nb5O17, corresponds to the n = 5 term of the homologous AnBnO3n+2 family of structures composed of ABX3 perovskite layers. The structure consists of perovskite-type blocks of n = 5 layers of NbO6 octahedra, separated by an interblock region. Successive blocks along the b axis are displaced by {1 \over 2}c with respect to each other. The deformation of the NbO6 octahedra is a minimum at the middle of each block, and increases along the direction of the b axis to a maximum at each end of the block. Ca and Na share the same intrablock sites, coordinated by 12 O atoms, whereas only Ca atoms are found in the interblock cavities, at sites with different coordination geometries.

34. A new (C2H5NH3)2ZnCl4crystal with a pure Pnma-P212121ferroelastic phase transition

Abstract: Optical, calorimetric, and X-ray measurements performed on (C2H5NH3)2ZnCl4 (C2ZnCl) together with a group theoretical analysis have revealed that this crystal shows a pure first-order ferroelastoelectric phase transition at 243.3 K. In the low-temperature phase the crystal shows two explicit forms of ferrocity: gyrotropy and piezoelectricity, which is a common fact in this class of secondary ferroics. The experimental data show that the corresponding phase transition is similar to that observed in (C5H11NH3)2ZnCl4 (C5ZnCl) at 249 K. The thermodynamic function values for this phase transition in both compounds and the X-ray results confirm that the conformational changes must be excluded from the physical mechanisms involved in the onset of the ferroelastoelectric properties. The microscopic origin of this phase transition should be related to the freezing of the dynamical disorder of the N-H...Cl hydrogen bonding and with the corresponding tilting of the hydrocarbon chains. The experimental data seem to be in agreement with the Landau phenomenological theory except near Tc, where the experimental specific heat is well described by an empirical power law. Finally, as found in some other crystals of this family, C2ZnCl crystals also exhibit an isotropic point around 25 K. The isotropic point temperature shows a very strong dependence on n (chain length) for n or=12.

Abstract: A convenient procedure is presented whereby the chirality of isopentenyl alcohols labeled with deuterium in the 2-position can be determined by 1 H NMR analysis of their chiral esters. The MTPA, MPA and O -acetylmandelate esters were investigated in a series of NMR solvents. The best results were obtained using the O -acetylmandelates in C 6 D 6 with homodecoupling of the 1-position.

Abstract: An analysis of the production of the Λ baryon in the hadronic decays of the Z0 is presented, based on about 993K multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. The differencial cross section of the Λ and the correlations between Λ and View the MathML source produced in the same event are compared to current models, based both on string fragmentation and on cluster decay. The predictions of the string fragmentation model are found to give satisfactory agreements with the data, clearly better than those of the cluster model.

This distortion is caused by the repulsion of Br atoms whose distance 3.712 (1) and 3.661 (2) A at 291 and 144 K, respectively, is below the Br-Br van der Waals distance (3.9 A)

43. The effects of parallel versus perpendicular electrode orientations on EMG amplitude and mean power frequency from the biceps brachii

Abstract: The purposes of this study were threefold: (1) to compare the isometric torque-related patterns of absolute and normalized electromyographic (EMG) amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) responses for electrode orientations that were parallel and perpendicular to the muscle fibers; (2) to examine the influence of electrode orientation on mean absolute EMG amplitude and MPF values; and (3) to determine the effects of normalization on mean EMG amplitude and MPF values from parallel and perpendicular electrode orientations. Ten adults (5 men and 5 women mean +/- SD age = 23.8 +/- 2.3 years) volunteered to participate in the investigation. Two sets of bipolar surface EMG electrodes (20 mm center to center) were placed parallel and perpendicular to the muscle fibers over the biceps brachii. The subjects performed a maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) test followed by randomly ordered submaximal muscle actions in 10% increments from 10 to 90% MVIC. Paired t-tests indicated that absolute EMG amplitude values for the parallel electrode orientation were greater (p0.05) than those for the perpendicular orientation at all isometric torque levels except 10% MVIC For normalized EMG amplitude values, however, there were no significant mean differences between electrode orientations. There were also no differences between electrode orientations for absolute or normalized EMG MPF values. In 30% of the cases, different torque-related patterns of responses were observed between the parallel and perpendicular electrode orientations for the absolute and normalized EMG amplitude and MPF values. Therefore, the results of the present study support the need for standardizing electrode orientation to compare the pattern of responses for EMG amplitude and MPF values and normalizing EMG amplitude data to compare the mean values.

Abstract: We evaluated changes in gene expression of Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp in response to a change in diet by comparing specimens which were fed with an animal protein diet against those which underwent a change from an animal protein diet to a plant protein diet. In addition, we also compared specimens which were fed with a plant protein diet with another group which underwent a change from plant to animal protein diet. Results showed that, in the case of hepatopancreas tissue, a total of six genes were differentially expressed and exhibited a high degree of homology with sequences which codify for proteins related to metabolism, transcription regulation, and rRNA subunits. In the case of muscle tissue, four differentially expressed sequences were recorded which codified for proteins associated to the immune system response, as well as cell structure and signaling. By means of RT-PCR, we also detected differentially expressed chitinase transcripts (Delta Ct). We observed Delta Ct expression values of 0.49 when comparing specimens fed a plant diet to those which underwent a change from plant to an animal diet, while a Delta Ct value of 0.52 was observed when comparing animals fed with an animal diet to specimens which underwent a change from an animal to a plant protein diet Differential gene expression was not observed in specimens which did not undergo a change in diet during the experiment.

Abstract: Inelastic neutron scattering experiments in K2SeO4, Cs2SeO4 and K2CrO4 are reported. The lowest Sigma 3- Sigma 2 phonon branches along the alpha *-axis in their Pnam phase have been characterised for the three compounds. The results are compared with recent lattice dynamical simulations using rigid-ion models. Potassium chromate, that simulations suggested to be incommensurate at low temperatures, evidences no structural phase transition down to 12 K, but its lowest Sigma 2 phonon branch exhibits a significative softening and decreases more than 20% as the temperature is lowered from 300 K to 36 K. The softening mechanism in this compound and in potassium selenate is related to an increase of the effective interaction between an acoustic and an optical branch.

Abstract: Abstract The KM3NeT research infrastructure is under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of two water Cherenkov neutrino detectors, ARCA and ORCA, aimed at neutrino astrophysics and oscillation research, respectively. Instrumenting a large volume of sea water with $$\sim {6200}$$ ∼ 6200 optical modules comprising a total of $$\sim {200{,}000}$$ ∼ 200 , 000 photomultiplier tubes, KM3NeT will achieve sensitivity to $$\sim {10} \ \mathrm{MeV}$$ ∼ 10 MeV neutrinos from Galactic and near-Galactic core-collapse supernovae through the observation of coincident hits in photomultipliers above the background. In this paper, the sensitivity of KM3NeT to a supernova explosion is estimated from detailed analyses of background data from the first KM3NeT detection units and simulations of the neutrino signal. The KM3NeT observational horizon (for a $$5\,\sigma $$ 5 σ discovery) covers essentially the Milky-Way and for the most optimistic model, extends to the Small Magellanic Cloud ( $$\sim {60} \ \mathrm{kpc}$$ ∼ 60 kpc ). Detailed studies of the time profile of the neutrino signal allow assessment of the KM3NeT capability to determine the arrival time of the neutrino burst with a few milliseconds precision for sources up to 5–8 kpc away, and detecting the peculiar signature of the standing accretion shock instability if the core-collapse supernova explosion happens closer than 3–5 kpc, depending on the progenitor mass. KM3NeT’s capability to measure the neutrino flux spectral parameters is also presented.

Abstract: We present a search for the third generation up type quark t and a possible fourth down type quark b' in hadronic Z0 decays observed in DELPHI at the LEP collider. For any scenario with a decay through the charged current or into a charged Higgs with a mass at least 6 GeV/c2 below the t and 3 GeVc2 below the b' mass, we set a lower limit for the t quark mass at 44.0 GeV/c2 and for the b' mass at 44.5 GeV/c2. For specific scenarios the mass limits are slightly higher, e.g. for charged current decays the limits are 44.5 and 45.0 GeV/c2 respectively, where all limits are given at a 95% confidence level. © 1990., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published
