Abstract: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory instruments about 1 km3 of deep, glacial ice at the geographic South Pole. It uses 5160 photomultipliers to detect Cherenkov light emitted by charged relativistic particles. An unexpected light propagation effect observed by the experiment is an anisotropic attenuation, which is aligned with the local flow direction of the ice. We examine birefringent light propagation through the polycrystalline ice microstructure as a possible explanation for this effect. The predictions of a first-principles model developed for this purpose, in particular curved light trajectories resulting from asymmetric diffusion, provide a qualitatively good match to the main features of the data. This in turn allows us to deduce ice crystal properties. Since the wavelength of the detected light is short compared to the crystal size, these crystal properties include not only the crystal orientation fabric, but also the average crystal size and shape, as a function of depth. By adding small empirical corrections to this first-principles model, a quantitatively accurate description of the optical properties of the IceCube glacial ice is obtained. In this paper, we present the experimental signature of ice optical anisotropy observed in IceCube light-emitting diode (LED) calibration data, the theory and parameterization of the birefringence effect, the fitting procedures of these parameterizations to experimental data, and the inferred crystal properties.

Abstract: Abstract Atmospheric muon neutrinos are produced by meson decays in cosmic-ray-induced air showers. The flux depends on meteorological quantities such as the air temperature, which affects the density of air. Competition between decay and re-interaction of those mesons in the first particle production generations gives rise to a higher neutrino flux when the air density in the stratosphere is lower, corresponding to a higher temperature. A measurement of a temperature dependence of the atmospheric $$\nu _{\mu }$$ ν μ flux provides a novel method for constraining hadronic interaction models of air showers. It is particularly sensitive to the production of kaons. Studying this temperature dependence for the first time requires a large sample of high-energy neutrinos as well as a detailed understanding of atmospheric properties. We report the significant ( $$> 10 \; \sigma $$ > 10 σ ) observation of a correlation between the rate of more than 260,000 neutrinos, detected by IceCube between 2012 and 2018, and atmospheric temperatures of the stratosphere, measured by the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument aboard NASA’s AQUA satellite. For the observed 10 $$\%$$ % seasonal change of effective atmospheric temperature we measure a 3.5(3) $$\%$$ % change in the muon neutrino flux. This observed correlation deviates by about 2-3 standard deviations from the expected correlation of 4.3 $$\%$$ % as obtained from theoretical predictions under the assumption of various hadronic interaction models.

Abstract: The origin of high-energy galactic cosmic rays is yet to be understood, but some galactic cosmic-ray accelerators can accelerate cosmic rays up to PeV energies. The high-energy cosmic rays are expected to interact with the surrounding material or radiation, resulting in the production of gamma-rays and neutrinos. To optimize for the detection of such associated production of gamma-rays and neutrinos for a given source morphology and spectrum, a multimessenger analysis that combines gamma-rays and neutrinos is required. In this study, we use the Multi-Mission Maximum Likelihood framework with IceCube Maximum Likelihood Analysis software and HAWC Accelerated Likelihood to search for a correlation between 22 known gamma-ray sources from the third HAWC gamma-ray catalog and 14 yr of IceCube track-like data. No significant neutrino emission from the direction of the HAWC sources was found. We report the best-fit gamma-ray model and 90% CL neutrino flux limit from the 22 sources. From the neutrino flux limit, we conclude that, for five of the sources, the gamma-ray emission observed by HAWC cannot be produced purely from hadronic interactions. We report the limit for the fraction of gamma-rays produced by hadronic interactions for these five sources.

Abstract: Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are prime candidate sources of the high-energy, astrophysical neutrinos detected by IceCube. This is demonstrated by the real-time multimessenger detection of the blazar TXS 0506+056 and the recent evidence of neutrino emission from NGC 1068 from a separate time-averaged study. However, the production mechanism of the astrophysical neutrinos in AGN is not well established, which can be resolved via correlation studies with photon observations. For neutrinos produced due to photohadronic interactions in AGN, in addition to a correlation of neutrinos with high-energy photons, there would also be a correlation of neutrinos with photons emitted at radio wavelengths. In this work, we perform an in-depth stacking study of the correlation between 15 GHz radio observations of AGN reported in the MOJAVE XV catalog, and 10 yr of neutrino data from IceCube. We also use a time-dependent approach, which improves the statistical power of the stacking analysis. No significant correlation was found for both analyses, and upper limits are reported. When compared to the IceCube diffuse flux, at 100 TeV and for a spectral index of 2.5, the upper limits derived are ∼3% and ∼9% for the time-averaged and time-dependent cases, respectively.

Abstract: Neutrino flares in the sky are searched for in data collected by IceCube between 2011 and 2021 May. This data set contains cascade-like events originating from charged-current electron neutrino and tau neutrino interactions and all-flavor neutral-current interactions. IceCube’s previous all-sky searches for neutrino flares used data sets consisting of track-like events originating from charged-current muon neutrino interactions. The cascade data set is statistically independent of the track data sets, and while inferior in angular resolution, the low-background nature makes it competitive and complementary to previous searches. No statistically significant flare of neutrino emission was observed in an all-sky scan. Upper limits are calculated on neutrino flares of varying duration from 1 hr to 100 days. Furthermore, constraints on the contribution of these flares to the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux are presented, showing that multiple unresolved transient sources may contribute to the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux.

Abstract: We present the results of a search for 10–1000 GeV neutrinos from 2268 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) over 8 yr of IceCube-DeepCore data. This work probes burst physics below the photosphere where electromagnetic radiation cannot escape. Neutrinos of tens of giga electronvolts are predicted in sub-photospheric collision of free-streaming neutrons with bulk-jet protons. In a first analysis, we searched for the most significant neutrino-GRB coincidence using six overlapping time windows centered on the prompt phase of each GRB. In a second analysis, we conducted a search for a group of GRBs, each individually too weak to be detectable, but potentially significant when combined. No evidence of neutrino emission is found for either analysis. The most significant neutrino coincidence is for Fermi-GBM GRB bn 140807500, with a p -value of 0.097 corrected for all trials. The binomial test used to search for a group of GRBs had a p -value of 0.65 after all trial corrections. The binomial test found a group consisting only of GRB bn 140807500 and no additional GRBs. The neutrino limits of this work complement those obtained by IceCube at tera electronvolt to peta electronvolt energies. We compare our findings for the large set of GRBs as well as GRB 221009A to the sub-photospheric neutron-proton collision model and find that GRB 221009A provides the most constraining limit on baryon loading. For a jet Lorentz factor of 300 (800), the baryon loading on GRB 221009A is lower than 3.85 (2.13) at a 90% confidence level.

Abstract: IceCube alert events are neutrinos with a moderate-to-high probability of having astrophysical origin. In this study, we analyze 11 yr of IceCube data and investigate 122 alert events and a selection of high-energy tracks detected between 2009 and the end of 2021. This high-energy event selection (alert events + high-energy tracks) has an average probability of ≥0.5 of being of astrophysical origin. We search for additional continuous and transient neutrino emission within the high-energy events’ error regions. We find no evidence for significant continuous neutrino emission from any of the alert event directions. The only locally significant neutrino emission is the transient emission associated with the blazar TXS 0506+056, with a local significance of 3 σ , which confirms previous IceCube studies. When correcting for 122 test positions, the global p -value is 0.156 and compatible with the background hypothesis. We constrain the total continuous flux emitted from all 122 test positions at 100 TeV to be below 1.2 × 10 ^−15 (TeV cm ^2 s) ^−1 at 90% confidence assuming an E ^−2 spectrum. This corresponds to 4.5% of IceCube’s astrophysical diffuse flux. Overall, we find no indication that alert events in general are linked to lower-energetic continuous or transient neutrino emission.

Abstract: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory has been continuously taking data to search for ${ \mathcal O }(0.5\mbox{--}10)$ s long neutrino bursts since 2007. Even if a Galactic core-collapse supernova is optically obscured or collapses to a black hole instead of exploding, it will be detectable via the ${ \mathcal O }(10)$ MeV neutrino burst emitted during the collapse. We discuss a search for such events covering the time between 2008 April 17 and 2019 December 31. Considering the average data taking and analysis uptime of 91.7% after all selection cuts, this is equivalent to 10.735 yr of continuous data taking. In order to test the most conservative neutrino production scenario, the selection cuts were optimized for a model based on an 8.8 solar mass progenitor collapsing to an O–Ne–Mg core. Conservative assumptions on the effects of neutrino oscillations in the exploding star were made. The final selection cut was set to ensure that the probability to detect such a supernova within the Milky Way exceeds 99%. No such neutrino burst was found in the data after performing a blind analysis. Hence, a 90% C.L. upper limit on the rate of core-collapse supernovae out to distances of ≈25 kpc was determined to be 0.23 yr ^−1 . For the more distant Magellanic Clouds, only high neutrino luminosity supernovae will be detectable by IceCube, unless external information on the burst time is available. We determined a model-independent limit by parameterizing the dependence on the neutrino luminosity and the energy spectrum.

Abstract: Core-collapse supernovae are a promising potential high-energy neutrino source class. We test for correlation between seven years of IceCube neutrino data and a catalog containing more than 1000 core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and IIP and a sample of stripped-envelope supernovae. We search both for neutrino emission from individual supernovae as well as for combined emission from the whole supernova sample, through a stacking analysis. No significant spatial or temporal correlation of neutrinos with the cataloged supernovae was found. All scenarios were tested against the background expectation and together yield an overall p -value of 93%; therefore, they show consistency with the background only. The derived upper limits on the total energy emitted in neutrinos are 1.7 × 10 ^48 erg for stripped-envelope supernovae, 2.8 × 10 ^48 erg for type IIP, and 1.3 × 10 ^49 erg for type IIn SNe, the latter disfavoring models with optimistic assumptions for neutrino production in interacting supernovae. We conclude that stripped-envelope supernovae and supernovae of type IIn do not contribute more than 14.6% and 33.9%, respectively, to the diffuse neutrino flux in the energy range of about [ 10 ^3 –10 ^5 ] GeV, assuming that the neutrino energy spectrum follows a power-law with an index of −2.5. Under the same assumption, we can only constrain the contribution of type IIP SNe to no more than 59.9%. Thus, core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and stripped-envelope supernovae can both be ruled out as the dominant source of the diffuse neutrino flux under the given assumptions.

Abstract: Galactic PeV cosmic-ray accelerators (PeVatrons) are Galactic sources theorized to accelerate cosmic rays up to PeV in energy. The accelerated cosmic rays are expected to interact hadronically with nearby ambient gas or the interstellar medium, resulting in γ -rays and neutrinos. Recently, the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) identified 12 γ -ray sources with emissions above 100 TeV, making them candidates for PeVatrons. While at these high energies the Klein–Nishina effect exponentially suppresses leptonic emission from Galactic sources, evidence for neutrino emission would unequivocally confirm hadronic acceleration. Here, we present the results of a search for neutrinos from these γ -ray sources and stacking searches testing for excess neutrino emission from all 12 sources as well as their subcatalogs of supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebulae with 11 yr of track events from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. No significant emissions were found. Based on the resulting limits, we place constraints on the fraction of γ -ray flux originating from the hadronic processes in the Crab Nebula and LHAASO J2226+6057.

Abstract: Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have long been considered a possible source of high-energy neutrinos. While no correlations have yet been detected between high-energy neutrinos and GRBs, the recent observation of GRB 221009A—the brightest GRB observed by Fermi-GBM to date and the first one to be observed above an energy of 10 TeV—provides a unique opportunity to test for hadronic emission. In this paper, we leverage the wide energy range of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to search for neutrinos from GRB 221009A. We find no significant deviation from background expectation across event samples ranging from MeV to PeV energies, placing stringent upper limits on the neutrino emission from this source.

Abstract: We present a catalog of likely astrophysical neutrino track-like events from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. IceCube began reporting likely astrophysical neutrinos in 2016, and this system was updated in 2019. The catalog presented here includes events that were reported in real time since 2019, as well as events identified in archival data samples starting from 2011. We report 275 neutrino events from two selection channels as the first entries in the catalog, the IceCube Event Catalog of Alert Tracks, which will see ongoing extensions with additional alerts. The Gold and Bronze alert channels respectively provide neutrino candidates with a 50% and 30% probability of being astrophysical, on average assuming an astrophysical neutrino power-law energy spectral index of 2.19. For each neutrino alert, we provide the reconstructed energy, direction, false-alarm rate, probability of being astrophysical in origin, and likelihood contours describing the spatial uncertainty in the alert's reconstructed location. We also investigate a directional correlation of these neutrino events with gamma-ray and X-ray catalogs, including 4FGL, 3HWC, TeVCat, and Swift-BAT.

Abstract: The LIGO/Virgo collaboration published the catalogs GWTC-1, GWTC-2.1, and GWTC-3 containing candidate gravitational-wave (GW) events detected during its runs O1, O2, and O3. These GW events can be possible sites of neutrino emission. In this paper, we present a search for neutrino counterparts of 90 GW candidates using IceCube DeepCore, the low-energy infill array of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The search is conducted using an unbinned maximum likelihood method, within a time window of 1000 s, and uses the spatial and timing information from the GW events. The neutrinos used for the search have energies ranging from a few GeV to several tens of TeV. We do not find any significant emission of neutrinos, and place upper limits on the flux and the isotropic-equivalent energy emitted in low-energy neutrinos. We also conduct a binomial test to search for source populations potentially contributing to neutrino emission. We report a nondetection of a significant neutrino-source population with this test.

Abstract: The Galactic plane, harboring a diffuse neutrino flux, is a particularly interesting target in which to study potential cosmic-ray acceleration sites. Recent gamma-ray observations by HAWC and LHAASO have presented evidence for multiple Galactic sources that exhibit a spatially extended morphology and have energy spectra continuing beyond 100 TeV. A fraction of such emission could be produced by interactions of accelerated hadronic cosmic rays, resulting in an excess of high-energy neutrinos clustered near these regions. Using 10 years of IceCube data comprising track-like events that originate from charged-current muon neutrino interactions, we perform a dedicated search for extended neutrino sources in the Galaxy. We find no evidence for time-integrated neutrino emission from the potential extended sources studied in the Galactic plane. The most significant location, at 2.6 σ post-trials, is a 1.°7 sized region coincident with the unidentified TeV gamma-ray source 3HWC J1951+266. We provide strong constraints on hadronic emission from several regions in the galaxy.

Abstract: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory sends realtime neutrino alerts with a high probability of being astrophysical in origin. We present a new method to correlate these events and possible candidate sources using 2089 blazars from the Fermi-LAT 4LAC-DR2 catalog and with 3413 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) from the Radio Fundamental Catalog. Abstract: The understanding of novae, the thermonuclear eruptions on the surfaces of white dwarf stars in binaries, has recently undergone a major paradigm shift. Though the bolometric luminosity of novae was long thought to arise directly from photons supplied by the thermonuclear runaway, recent gigaelectronvolt (GeV) gamma-ray observations have supported the notion that a significant portion of the luminosity could come from radiative shocks. More recently, observations of novae have lent evidence that these shocks are acceleration sites for hadrons for at least some types of novae. In this scenario, a flux of neutrinos may accompany the observed gamma rays. As the gamma rays from most novae have only been observed up to a few GeV, novae have previously not been considered as targets for neutrino telescopes, which are most sensitive at and above teraelectronvolt (TeV) energies. Here, we present the first search for neutrinos from novae with energies between a few GeV and 10 TeV using IceCube-DeepCore, a densely instrumented region of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory with a reduced energy threshold. We search both for a correlation between gamma-ray and neutrino emission as well as between optical and neutrino emission from novae. We find no evidence for neutrino emission from the novae considered in this analysis and set upper limits for all gamma-ray detected novae.

Abstract: Beginning in 2016, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory has sent out alerts in real time containing the information of high-energy ( E ≳ 100 TeV) neutrino candidate events with moderate to high (≳30%) probability of astrophysical origin. In this work, we use a recent catalog of such alert events, which, in addition to events announced in real time, includes events that were identified retroactively and covers the time period of 2011–2020. We also search for additional, lower-energy neutrinos from the arrival directions of these IceCube alerts. We show how performing such an analysis can constrain the contribution of rare populations of cosmic neutrino sources to the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux. After searching for neutrino emission coincident with these alert events on various timescales, we find no significant evidence of either minute-scale or day-scale transient neutrino emission or of steady neutrino emission in the direction of these alert events. This study also shows how numerous a population of neutrino sources has to be to account for the complete astrophysical neutrino flux. Assuming that sources have the same luminosity, an E ^−2.5 neutrino spectrum, and number densities that follow star formation rates, the population of sources has to be more numerous than 7 × 10 ^−9 Mpc ^−3 . This number changes to 3 × 10 ^−7 Mpc ^−3 if number densities instead have no cosmic evolution.

Abstract: Using data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, we searched for high-energy neutrino emission from the gravitational-wave events detected by the advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors during their third observing run. We did a low-latency follow-up on the public candidate events released during the detectors’ third observing run and an archival search on the 80 confident events reported in the GWTC-2.1 and GWTC-3 catalogs. An extended search was also conducted for neutrino emission on longer timescales from neutron star containing mergers. Follow-up searches on the candidate optical counterpart of GW190521 were also conducted. We used two methods; an unbinned maximum likelihood analysis and a Bayesian analysis using astrophysical priors, both of which were previously used to search for high-energy neutrino emission from gravitational-wave events. No significant neutrino emission was observed by any analysis, and upper limits were placed on the time-integrated neutrino flux as well as the total isotropic equivalent energy emitted in high-energy neutrinos.

Abstract: This paper presents the results of a search for neutrinos that are spatially and temporally coincident with 22 unique, nonrepeating fast radio bursts (FRBs) and one repeating FRB (FRB 121102). FRBs are a rapidly growing class of Galactic and extragalactic astrophysical objects that are considered a potential source of high-energy neutrinos. The IceCube Neutrino Observatory’s previous FRB analyses have solely used track events. This search utilizes seven years of IceCube cascade events which are statistically independent of track events. This event selection allows probing of a longer range of extended timescales due to the low background rate. No statistically significant clustering of neutrinos was observed. Upper limits are set on the time-integrated neutrino flux emitted by FRBs for a range of extended time windows.

Abstract: The energetic events on the sun, solar wind and subsequent effects on the Earth's geomagnetic field and upper atmosphere (ionosphere) comprise space weather. Modern navigation systems that use radio-wave signals, reflecting from or propagating through the ionosphere as a means of determining range or distance, are vulnerable to a variety of effects that can degrade the performance of the navigational systems. In particular, the Global Positioning System (GPS) that uses a constellation of earth orbiting satellites are affected due to the space weather phenomena. Studies made during two successive geomagnetic storms that occurred during the period from 8 to 12 November 2004, have clearly revealed the adverse affects on the GPS range delay as inferred from the Total Electron Content (TEC) measurements made from a chain of seven dual frequency GPS receivers installed in the Indian sector. Significant increases in TEC at the Equatorial Ionization anomaly crest region are observed, resulting in increased range delay during the periods of the storm activity. Further, the storm time rapid changes occurring in TEC resulted in a number of phase slips in the GPS signal compared to those on quiet days. These phase slips often result in the loss of lock of the GPS receivers, similar to those that occur during strong(>10 dB) L-band scintillation events, adversely affecting the GPS based navigation.

Es curioso, y no deja de extrañar, que sean los arqueólogos los que, a falta de datos que les son propios, esto es, de arqueología, utilicen fuentes escritas para sostener su tesis de la existencia de Tarteso, mientras los filólogos no opinan sobre el particular, dejando de lado el análisis de los textos, que es asunto de su competencia.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of different ultrasound signs for diagnosing adnexal torsion, using surgery as the reference standard. Methods: This was a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between January 1990 and November 2021 evaluating ovarian edema, adnexal mass, ovarian Doppler flow findings, the whirlpool sign and pelvic fluid as ultrasound signs (index tests) for detecting adnexal torsion, using surgical findings as the reference standard. The search for studies was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, The Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov and Web of Science databases. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 (QUADAS-2) tool was used to evaluate the quality of the studies. Pooled sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative likelihood ratios were calculated separately, and the post-test probability of adnexal torsion following a positive or negative test was also determined. Results: The search identified 1267 citations after excluding duplicates. Eighteen studies were ultimately included in the qualitative and quantitative syntheses. Eight studies (809 patients) analyzed the presence of ovarian edema, eight studies (1044 patients) analyzed the presence of an adnexal mass, 14 studies (1742 patients) analyzed ovarian Doppler flow, six studies (545 patients) analyzed the whirlpool sign and seven studies (981 patients) analyzed the presence of pelvic fluid as ultrasound signs of adnexal torsion. Overall, the quality of most studies was considered to be moderate or good. However, there was a high risk of bias in the patient-selection and index-text domains (with the exception of the whirlpool sign) in a significant proportion of studies. Pooled sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative likelihood ratios of each ultrasound sign were 58%, 86%, 4.0 and 0.49 for ovarian edema, 69%, 46%, 1.3 and 0.67 for adnexal mass, 65%, 91%, 7.6 and 0.38 for the whirlpool sign, 53%, 95%, 11.0 and 0.49 for ovarian Doppler findings and 55%, 69%, 1.7 and 0.66 for pelvic fluid. Heterogeneity was high for all analyses. Conclusions: The presence of an adnexal mass or pelvic fluid have poor diagnostic accuracy as ultrasound signs of adnexal torsion, while the presence of ovarian edema, the whirlpool sign and decreased or absent ovarian Doppler flow have good specificity but moderate sensitivity for detecting adnexal torsion. © 2022 The Authors. Se trata de una revision sistematica y un metaanalisis de los estudios publicados entre enero de 1990 y noviembre de 2021 que evaluaron el edema ovarico, la masa anexial, los resultados del flujo Doppler ovarico, el ‘‘signo del remolino’’ (torsion ovarica) y el liquido pelvico como indicios ecograficos (pruebas de referencia) para detectar la torsion anexial, utilizando los resultados quirurgicos como patron de referencia. La busqueda de estudios se realizo en las bases de datos PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, The Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov y Web of Science.Para evaluar la calidad de los estudios se utilizo la herramienta de Evaluacion de Calidad de los Estudios de Precision Diagnostica-2 (QUADAS-2, por sus siglas en ingles). Se calcularon por separado los valores combinados de sensibilidad,especificidad y cocientes de verosimilitud positivos y negativos, y se determino tambien la probabilidad posterior a la prueba de la torsion anexial tras una prueba positiva o negativa. Resultados. La busqueda identifico 1267 citas, una vez excluidas las duplicadas. Se incluyeron dieciocho estudios en las sıntesis cualitativa y cuantitativa. Ocho estudios (809 pacientes) analizaron la presencia de edema ovarico, ocho estudios(1044 pacientes) analizaron la presencia de una masa anexial, 14 estudios (1742 pacientes) analizaron el flujo Doppler ovarico, seis estudios (545 pacientes) analizaron el ‘‘signo del remolino’’ y siete estudios (981 pacientes) analizaron la presencia de lıquido pelvico como indicios ecograficos de torsion anexial. En general, la calidad de la mayorıa de los estudios se considero moderada o buena. Sin embargo, hubo un alto riesgo de sesgo en una proporcion significativa de estudios en las areas de seleccion de pacientes y texto de referencia (con la excepcion del ‘‘signo del remolino’’). Los valores combinados de la sensibilidad, la especificidad y los cocientes de probabilidad positivos y negativos de cada indicio ecografico fueron del 58%, 86%, 4,0 y 0,49 para el edema ovarico, del 69%, 46%, 1,3 y 0,67 para la masa anexial, del 65%, 91%, 7,6 y 0,38 para el ‘‘signo del remolino’’, del 53%, 95%, 11,0 y 0,49 para los resultados del Doppler ovarico y del 55%, 69%, 1,7 y 0,66 para el liquido pelvico. La heterogeneidad fue elevada en todos los analisis. Conclusion. La presencia de una masa anexial o de liquido pelvico apenas tienen precision diagnostica como indicios ecograficos de torsion anexial, mientras que la presencia de edema ovarico, el ‘‘signo del remolino’’ y la disminucion o ausencia de flujo Doppler ovarico tienen una buena especificidad, pero una sensibilidad moderada para detectar la torsion anexial.

Abstract: Fiber reinforced concrete will be subjected to low water-to-cement ratios and extensive fracture exposure as part of a research to examine the capabilities of various add-ons to improve self-healing. An examination of pozzolanic materials' self-healing abilities in light of their mechanical performance is proposed in this work. It was determined that different exposure times ranging from 7 to 42 days might initiate self-healing in the material by applying a through-crack compressive force, wet-dry cycles, water contraction, water immersion, and air exposure. GGBS admixture with 30% demonstrated outstanding compressive strength in all four conditions, according to the results of the investigation.

38. Modelling and Analysis of Wind Turbine using Permanent Magnet synchronous generator for Maximum Power Tracking Control

Abstract: This research uses Matlab/Simulink simulation tools to analyse and simulate the performance of a wind power system powered by a low-speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). A wind turbine (WT), PMSG, maximum power point tracking (MPPT), a three-phase diode bridge rectifier, a dc bus connected to a capacitor, and a PWM voltage source inverter regulated by a current source are all part of the system. With an MPPT control, the optimum coefficient of performance parameter was attained in the WT model as a function of wind velocity. The use of low-speed PMSG, which results in improved efficiency, eliminates the need for a gearbox. The ac output power obtained from PMSG is supplied to a three-phase rectifier bridge, which allows for maximum power extraction by using the boost converter's optimal voltage and current settings. The total system is connected to the electrical utility using a current source PWM inverter for dc/ac conversion.

Abstract: Introduction/Background* The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of preoperative 18F-FDG PET or PET/CT in detecting retroperitoneal lymph node (pelvic lymph node and para-aortic lymph node) metastasis in patients with high-risk endometrial cancer. Methodology A systematic literature review was performed in PubMed and Web of science with the terms ’endometrial cancer’ and ‘positron emission tomography. Inclusion criteria were prospective or retrospective studies that evaluated lymph node metastases in the retroperitoneal area in high-risk endometrial carcinoma and provided the necessary information to construct the 2x2 table. For the quantitative analysis, the pool sensitivity and the pool specificity for node detection was calculated. The quality of the studies was assessed with the QUADAS-2. Result(s)* The research resulted in 478 eligible citations from January 1990 to May 2020. After the exclusion, fourteen articles that met all the inclusion criteria were included, comprising data from 850 patients. The sensitivity, specificity and AUC of 18F-FDG PET or PET/CT in the detection of lymph node metastases in high-risk endometrial cancer were 0.66 (95% CI: 0.59-0.73), 0.93 (95% CI: 0.87-0.96) and 0.72 respectively. Conclusion* Despite the widespread use of 18F-FDG PET or PET/CT for imaging staging in patients with high-risk endometrial cancer, this study show the moderated sensibility of this technique to diagnostic the lymph node metastasis. Therefore, the actual usefulness of this technique for the diagnosis of lymph node metastases is limited, especially nowadays, with the arrival and implementation of the sentinel node.

Abstract: Introduction/Background* The primary objective of this project was to identify the independent clinical-pathological variables associated with the death after relapse in patients with stage IB1 cervical cancer who underwent radical hysterectomy. The secondary objective was to analysis survival post-relapse in these patients. Methodology Based on the SUCCOR study’s database . Patients were eligible if they had a relapse (local, distant or both) after underwent a radical hysterectomy in a European Institution for stage IB1 cervical cancer (FIGO 2009), from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2014. To identify variables independently associated with death in these patients, we calculated the odds ratio using simple logistic regression models and subsequently a multivariate backward stepwise procedure. For the secondary end point we calculated Kaplan-Meyer and Cox regression using the results of the univariate and multivariate analysis . Result(s)* A total of 126 patients were selected, women who died were more likely to have tumors >2cm on the clinical examination (OR, 3.50; 95% CI, 1.35- 9.08) and to have a stromal infiltration higher than 1/3 (OR, 6.30; 95% CI, 1.31- 30.00). In contrast, the histologic subtype of adenocarcinoma and treatment with Bevacizumab were found as protective factors against death (OR, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.11- 0.95) and (OR, 0.23; 95% CI, 0.05- 0.99) respectively. The mean time of relapse of our population was 22.94 months and the median of survival after relapse was 18.5 months. Patients with tumors > 2cm on the clinical examination had a 3.39-times higher hazard of death after relapse (HR, 3.39; 95% CI, 1.52- 7.53) and the distant/both location of relapse had 2.23- times higher hazard of death (HR, 2.23; 95% CI, 1.14- 4.36) The 2-years survival rates after relapse were 76% for tumors 2cm on the clinical examination, 76% for local relapse and 47% for distant/both location relapse. Conclusion* The tumor size on clinical examination, the location of relapse, the histologic subtype and the treatment with Bevacizumab, modify the risks of death after relapse on patients with cervical cancer IB1. Tumor >2cm on clinical examination and distant recurrences have a shorter survival time after relapse

Abstract: Introduction/Background* The study attempts to understand the impact of the different retrospective studies conducted by the SUCCOR group on the daily surgical practice among ESGO members. We intend to propose a new observational prospective European study, the SUCCOP study. We aim to know if the implementation of protective maneuvers in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) improves the outcome of patients with early cervical cancer (ECC). In this scenario, supported by the ESGO council, we have conducted a multinational survey to assess our ESGO members’ perspectives from the ethical and investigational viewpoints on this new observational prospective study. Methodology A 32-item questionnaire addressing multiple issues related to the SUCCOR study and surgical management of ECC was designed and sent from the ESGO account through a newsletter on February 23rd to all ESGO members from 54 countries of the ESGO directory. The survey was completely confidentially and could be completed in less than 5 minutes. Responses from 353 members were obtained. Descriptive statistical analysis and frequency tables, as well as two-sided Fisher’s exact test, were used. Result(s)* 92.9% of responders were aware of the findings of the SUCCOR study. 73.4% expected the results obtained. 5 out of 10 of members confirmed that have changed their practice after the publication of the manuscript. Currently, 34.8% of responders admit that they usually perform MIS (laparoscopy/robotic) for cervical tumours smaller than 2 cm, while for tumours larger than 2 cm (FIGO IB2) 15.1% state that they continue to carry out MIS. Between 63 and 64.1% apply protective maneuvers during this procedure. In ECC who have undergone conization, 56.1% would performed MIS for tumours smaller than 2 cm while only 30% would offer it for tumours larger than 2 cm. Finally, 84.1% of ESGO members consider ethically acceptable the development of a new European prospective observational study (Image 1) to evaluate the surgical approach in ECC (IB1-IB2). Conclusion* According to the ESGO members’ perspectives regarding the approach to ECC, it seems that MIS still has an important role to play, which should be evaluated in a new prospective study that reflects the European reality (Image 2).
