Background: There is a pressing need to offer more accessible, evidence-based psychological interventions to secondary school students who are increasingly reporting difficulties with anxiety and low mood. The aim of this pragmatic randomised multiple baseline trial is to evaluate the efficacy of a school-based counselling intervention called Knowledge Insight Tools (KIT) for reducing anxiety and low mood in UK secondary school students. KIT is a flexible intervention delivered individually and informed by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)., Methods: We will use a randomised multiple baseline design whereby young people will be randomly allocated to a baseline wait period of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 weekly measurements, followed by receiving up to 10 weekly sessions of KIT delivered by trained, school-based practitioners. We aim to recruit 60 young people aged 11-18 who are primarily experiencing problems with low mood and/or anxiety from secondary schools across England and Scotland. We will assess child-reported anxiety, mood, and general psychological distress/coping with the Young Person's Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation (YP-CORE), recorded at each session during the baseline and intervention phases. We will also assess child-reported anxiety and low mood with the Revised Children's Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) at the beginning and end of treatment; practitioner-reported treatment fidelity with the KIT Fidelity Checklist; and practitioner-reported feasibility with an end-of-treatment Implementation Survey. We will analyse within-person and between-person change in YP-CORE scores across the baseline and intervention phases using visual analysis and piecewise multilevel growth curve models. We will also analyse pre-post changes in YP-CORE scores using randomisation tests, and reliable and clinically significant change using the RCADS scores., Discussion: The KIT trial is a pragmatic, randomised multiple baseline trial aimed at evaluating a school-based, individual CBT counselling intervention for reducing anxiety and low mood in UK secondary school students. The period of adolescence brings with it a dynamic interaction between social context and behaviour, structural brain development, and anxiety and depressive symptoms. The rate of volumetric change in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) and amygdala have been implicated in socioemotional development in adolescence; typically, there is thinning of grey matter volume (GMV) in the vmPFC and growth in the amygdala during this time. The directionality of the associations between social, emotional, and neuroanatomical factors has yet to be untangled, such as the degree to which social variables impact regional brain development, and vice versa. To add, the differences between sexes are still up for debate. In this study, longitudinal associations between peer problems, family support, socioeconomic stress, emotional symptoms, amygdala volume, and vmPFC GMV were investigated for both sexes using latent change score models. Data from a multi-site European study at baseline (mean (SD) age = 14.40 (0.38) years; % female = 53.19) and follow-up 2 (mean (SD) age = 18.90 (0.69) years, % female = 53.19) were used. Results revealed that peer problems did not predict emotional symptoms, rather they changed together over time. For males only, there was positive correlated change between vmPFC GMV, peer problems and emotional symptoms, indicating that slower vmPFC GMV thinning was associated with poorer social and emotional functioning. Additionally, greater family support at age 14 years was associated with slower growth of amygdala volume between ages 14 and 19 years for males; previous research has related slower amygdala growth to resilience to mental health disorders. Adolescent mental health is impacted by a myriad of factors, including the developing brain, socioeconomic conditions and changing social relationships. Studies to date have neglected investigating those factors simultaneously, despite evidence of their interacting effects and distinct profiles for males and females. The current study addressed that gap by applying structural equation modelling to IMAGEN data from adolescents aged 14 years (n = 1950). A multi-group model split by sex was tested with the variables of socioeconomic stress, family support, peer problems, and brain structure as predictors, and emotional symptoms as the main outcome. Findings indicated that, for both sexes, peer problems were positively associated with emotional symptoms, and socioeconomic stress was negatively associated with family support. Additionally, there were sex-specific findings within the full models: ventromedial prefrontal cortex grey matter volume was negatively associated with emotional symptoms for males when corrected for whole brain volume, and socioeconomic stress was negatively associated with whole brain volume for females. This study underscores the importance of the peer environment for early adolescent emotional symptoms in both boys and girls, but goes further to suggest distinct gender associations with socioeconomic factors and brain structure which provides a multi-level view of risk and resilience. Background: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that has a major impact on patients´ quality of life. The Rheumatoid Arthritis Quality of Life (RAQoL) questionnaire is a patient-reported outcome measure, specific to RA. The aim of this study was to translate and perform the cross-cultural adaptation of the RAQoL into Portuguese., Material and Methods: The dual panel methodology was used to translate the UK RAQoL into Portuguese. This involved conducting a bilingual panel (providing the initial translation into Portuguese) followed by a lay panel (where items are assessed for comprehension and acceptability). Cognitive debriefing interviews were conducted with Portuguese RA patients to determine the face and content validity of the translated scale., Results: The translation panels produced a Portuguese version of the RAQoL that was easily understood and considered natural by native speakers. Twelve RA patients participated in the cognitive debriefing interviews. Patients considered the translated questionnaire to be clear, relevant and appropriate., Conclusion: The Portuguese version of the RAQoL was found to be comprehensible and demonstrated excellent face and content validity. Research examining the psychometric properties of this Portuguese version of the RAQoL is underway.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that has a significant impact on patients' quality of life (QoL). The Psoriatic Arthritis Quality of Life (PsAQoL) Scale was developed in the UK to be specific to PsA patients and adopts the needs-based model of QoL. As a disease-specific measure, the PsAQoL is superior to generic measures of QoL in terms of relevance and sensitivity. The measure, which has been adapted into 50 languages, has not previously been available for use with Greek PsA patients. The aim of the study was to produce a Greek version of the PsAQoL that was suitable for native Greek speakers and that had comparable psychometric properties to the original UK version. The adaptation of the Greek PsAQoL consisted of three stages; translation, assessment of face and content validity and analysis of its psychometric properties. The translation stage adopted the dual panel methodology -a bilingual panel followed by a lay panel- to ensure conceptual equivalence of the scale to the original version. Cognitive debriefing interviews were conducted to determine the applicability and relevance of the adapted scale to patients. Finally, a postal validation survey was conducted to assess the psychometric properties of the draft measure, using the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) as a comparator instrument. Non-parametric statistical analyses were performed to establish the reliability and construct validity of the PsAQoL. The translation panels produced a language version that sounded natural to native Greek speakers. Interviews revealed that patients found the measure comprehensible and appropriate. Only minor grammatical changes were made to the measure following these interviews. The Greek PsAQoL demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's α=0.88) and excellent test-retest reliability (r=0.98). As expected, the measure correlated moderately highly with the Physical Mobility and Pain sections of the NHP and correlated moderately with other sections, indicating convergent validity. Known group validity was established by the ability of the measure to distinguish between patients who differed according to their perceived general health and disease severity. No significant differences in PsAQoL scores were observed between males and females or older and younger patients. The Greek PsAQoL was well-received by patients and demonstrated sound psychometric properties. It forms part of a growing body of disease-specific measures that are available in Greece. It is recommended for use in routine clinical practice, international clinical trials and research studies as a valid and reliable measure of QoL in PsA patients.

Introduction and Objectives: The Cambridge Pulmonary Hypertension Outcome Review (CAMPHOR) is a patient-reported outcome measure of health-related quality of life and quality of life specific to individuals with pulmonary hypertension (PH). This questionnaire has demonstrated superiority over other instruments assessing similar domains. The objective of the present study was to adapt and validate the Spanish version of the questionnaire., Methods: The adaptation consisted of 3 stages: translation from English to Spanish using bilingual and lay panels, cognitive debriefing interviews with patients, and assessment of psychometric properties by means of a postal validation survey., Results: The translation panels produced a version of the CAMPHOR that was considered suitable for use by Spanish PH patients. The relevance, comprehensiveness, and acceptability of this version were confirmed in interviews with PH patients. Finally, the validation survey (n = 70) revealed that the 3 CAMPHOR scales (Symptoms, Activities, and Quality of life) showed strong psychometric properties. The internal consistency (Cronbach α) coefficients of the scales were above 0.89, and the test-retest reliability was above 0.87. The convergent and known group validity of the CAMPHOR scales was also demonstrated., Conclusions: The Spanish version of the CAMPHOR is a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of health-related quality of life and quality of life in Spanish PH patients. Background: Several Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have been used in studies of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Most of these assess Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL). The exception is the Rheumatoid Arthritis Quality of Life questionnaire (RAQoL). This scale measures the impact of RA and its treatment from the patient's perspective, making it suitable for determining the value patients gain from interventions., Objective: This review collates literature reporting on the efficacy of the RAQoL as a measure of patient value in clinical studies., Method: A literature search was conducted to identify published articles reporting on the use of the RAQoL. Psychometric and clinical research studies were included in the review., Results: Sixty-three full articles were identified. Psychometric analyses demonstrated that the RAQoL meets the requirements for internal consistency, reproducibility and construct validity. There is evidence to support the unidimensionality and responsiveness of the RAQoL. The measure has been used in a wide range of research studies including interventional, correlational and nonexperimental studies. Several studies found the RAQoL to be sensitive to change following interventions., Conclusion: The RAQoL has excellent psychometric properties and can detect the impact of both clinical and non-clinical interventions.
