Abstract

The low-lying structure of 15C has been investigated via the neutron-removal 16C(d,t) reaction. Along with the known bound neutron sd-shell states, unbound p-shell hole states have been observed. The excitation energies and the deduced spectroscopic factors of the cross-shell states are an important measure of the [(p)−1(sd)2] neutron configurations in 15C. Our results show a very good agreement with shell-model calculations using the SFO-tls interaction for 15C. However, this same interaction predicted energies that were too low for the corresponding hole states in the N=9 isotone 17O and adjustment of the p-sd and sd-sd monopole terms was required to match the 17O energies. In addition, the excitation energies and spectroscopic factors have been compared to the first calculations of 15C with the ab initio self-consistent Green's function method employing the NNLOsat interaction. The results show the sensitivity to the size of the N=8 shell gap and highlight the need to go beyond the current truncation scheme.

Abstract

Proton-emission branches of the 10+ isomer in the Tz=−1 nucleus 54Ni have been imaged with the active target and time projection chamber (ACTAR TPC) in an experiment conducted at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL). The completed decay scheme allows derivation of the reduced transition strengths, B(E2;10+→8+) and B(E4;10+→6+), for the two competing γ-ray transitions. By means of a comparison with their well-known ‘mirror transitions’ in Tz=+1 54Fe, and aided by a variety of shell-model calculations in the fp model space, effective charges for E4 transitions near N=Z 56Ni can be deduced: επ≈1.40 and εν≈0.30. Mirror-energy differences are explored with various shell-model interactions and isospin-symmetry breaking terms.

Abstract

The isovector and isoscalar components of neutron-proton pairing are investigated in the N=Z unstable nuclei of the fp-shell through the two-nucleon transfer reaction (p,3He) in inverse kinematics. The combination of particle and gamma-ray detection with radioactive beams of 56Ni and 52Fe, produced by fragmentation at the GANIL/LISE facility, made it possible to carry out this study for the first time in a closed and an open-shell nucleus in the fp-shell. The transfer cross-sections for ground-state to ground-state (J=0+, T=1) and to the first (J=1+, T=0) state were extracted for both cases together with the transfer cross-section ratios σ(0+,T=1)/σ(1+,T=0). They are compared with second-order distorted-wave born approximation (DWBA) calculations. The enhancement of the ground-state to ground-state pair transfer cross-section close to mid-shell, in 52Fe, points towards a superfluid phase in the isovector channel. For the “deuteron-like” transfer, very low cross-sections to the first (J=1+, T=0) state were observed both for 56Ni(p,3He) and 52Fe(p,3He) and are related to a strong hindrance of this channel due to spin-orbit effect. No evidence for an isoscalar deuteron-like condensate is observed.

Abstract

The analysis of fission events following the implantation of evaporation residues produced in the fusion reaction of 50Ti and 209Bi at different bombarding energies has revealed 5 millisecond decays, which are attributed to the spontaneous fission of proton-evaporation channels. The average cross sections for proton evaporation are found to be ∼100 and 10 times smaller than the largest neutron-evaporation channel cross section at the same excitation energy. These results suggest that the proton evaporation channel, albeit weak, may represent a realistic alternative to synthesize new, more neutron rich super heavy nuclei. Abstract

The first investigation of the single-particle structure of the bound states of 17C, via the d(16C,p) transfer reaction, has been undertaken. The measured angular distributions confirm the spin-parity assignments of 1/2+ and 5/2+ for the excited states located at 217 and 335 keV, respectively. The spectroscopic factors deduced for these states exhibit a marked single-particle character, in agreement with shell model and particle-core model calculations, and combined with their near degeneracy in energy provide clear evidence for the absence of the N=14 sub-shell closure. The very small spectroscopic factor found for the 3/2+ ground state is consistent with theoretical predictions and indicates that the ν1d3/2 strength is carried by unbound states. With a dominant ℓ=0 valence neutron configuration and a very low separation energy, the 1/2+ excited state is a one-neutron halo candidate.

Abstract

Aims: Esca disease of grapevine is characterised by foliar symptoms associated with the development of various internal wood necroses. The aims of the present study are to determine the type and the quantity of necroses in the various woody compartments of vines, the relationships between them and the links between necroses and severity of foliar symptoms. Methods and results: Symptomatic and asymptomatic vines cv Cabernet- Sauvignon were cross-sectioned to quantify the different types of internal necrosis in the scions (cordons, heads, and trunks) and rootstocks. Five necrosis « variables » were accounted for: central necrosis, sectorial necrosis, mixed necrosis, white rot, altered perimeter and in addition to the variable healing cone. In the scion, for all types of necrosis variables, a significant correlation between compartments was found. Vines with acute foliar form of esca had very advanced peripheral tissue degradations in the xylem and cambial zones. Chronic foliar expression of esca was associated with quantity of internal necroses higher than those obtained for asymptomatic vines. A logistic model indicated that white rot in the cordons was the best predictor for the chronic form of esca. Conclusion: Necroses formed a continuum within the plant. The scion is like a single unit with a volume of necroses useful to determine the health status of vines. Significance and impact of the study: A quantitative analysis of vine internal necroses would open up new possibilities for esca-epidemic approaches.

Les temps de repos de 80 jours et plus doivent être envisagés pour la production de réserves fourragères (ensilage, foin). Brachiaria brizantha, très répandue en Adamaoua, est intéressante dans une perspective de restauration pastorale.

Abstract

International audience; A great many experimental studies devoted to exploring in detail the properties of radioactive decay of the isotopes of transfermium elements by means of alpha, beta, and gamma spectroscopy have been performed over the past fifteen years at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna). High-intensity accelerated heavy-ion beams of ${}^{22}$Ne, ${}^{48}$Ca, ${}^{50}$Ti, and ${}^{54}$Cr from the U-400 cyclotron were used in experiments with the SHELS kinematic separator. An upgrade of the separator and detector system is planned in the future with the aim of improving the transportation efficiency for the nuclei under study and the detection efficiency for gamma rays.

Abstract

The novel and sensitive In-Gas Laser Ionization Spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique enables high-precision laser spectroscopy of the heaviest elements and isotopes very far from stability that are produced in fusion-evaporation reactions at in-flight separators. Powerful and dedicated laser systems are required in these facilities to realize in-gas jet laser spectroscopy with optimal spectral resolution and efficiency. The performance with respect to the requirements for IGLIS studies at the low energy front-end of the Super Separator Spectrometer (S3) at GANIL, France, of Dye and Ti:sapphire laser systems is investigated. In addition, a number of specific experimental cases on key isotopes of the elements Ag, Sn, Ac, and No are discussed in detail. Abstract

The isovector and isoscalar components of neutron-proton pairing are investigated in the N=Z unstable nuclei of the \textit{fp}-shell through the two-nucleon transfer reaction (p,$^3$He) in inverse kinematics. The combination of particle and gamma-ray detection with radioactive beams of $^{56}$Ni and $^{52}$Fe, produced by fragmentation at the GANIL/LISE facility, made it possible to carry out this study for the first time in a closed and an open-shell nucleus in the \textit{fp}-shell. The transfer cross-sections for ground-state to ground-state (J=0$^+$,T=1) and to the first (J=1$^+$,T=0) state were extracted for both cases together with the transfer cross-section ratios $\sigma$(0$^+$,T=1) /$\sigma$(1$^+$,T=0). They are compared with second-order distorted-wave born approximation (DWBA) calculations. The enhancement of the ground-state to ground-state pair transfer cross-section close to mid-shell, in $^{52}$Fe, points towards a superfluid phase in the isovector channel. For the "deuteron-like" transfer, very low cross-sections to the first (J=1$^+$,T=0) state were observed both for \Ni\phe\, and \Fe\phe\, and are related to a strong hindrance of this channel due to spin-orbit effect. Abstract

During the last decade, the use of inverse kinematics in the experimental study of fission is bringing a wealth of new observables obtained in single measurements, allowing their analysis and their correlations. An ongoing application of this technique is the basis of a series of experiments performed with the variable-mode, large-acceptance VAMOS++ spectrometer at GANIL. A recent experiment has been focused on the survival of the nuclear structure effects at high excitation energy in fission and quasi-fission. The full isotopic identification of fragments, the fission dynamics and the ratio between the production of fragments with even and odd atomic numbers, the so-called proton even-odd effect, are shown. The latter shows a different mechanism for fission and quasi-fission that could be used to separate fission from quasi-fission.

Abstract

Isomeric states in $^{256}\mathrm{No}$ were investigated using internal conversion electron and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy with the GABRIELA detection system at the focal plane of the SHELS recoil separator, at the Flerov Laboratory for Nuclear Research (FLNR, JINR, Dubna). The nuclei of interest were produced using the highly asymmetric fusion-evaporation reaction $^{238}\mathrm{U}(^{22}\mathrm{Ne},4n)^{256}\mathrm{No}$. The emission of internal conversion electrons and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays occurring between a $^{256}\mathrm{No}$ implantation and a subsequent $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay event were studied, resulting in the observation of high-$K$ isomerism in this nobelium isotope. The nature of the isomeric states is discussed in terms of possible two- and four-quasiparticle structures.

Abstract

International audience; An experiment was conducted at the GANIL/LISE3 facility to produce the 10+ isomer of 54Ni and measure its proton radioactivity decay branches. The proton detection was achieved with the ACTAR TPC device that enabled the separation of the small signal of the emitted proton from the large signal of the implanted ion, while the decay half-life is of the order of 150 ns. From the measured data, the emitted proton track length and the decay time of the ion can be extracted simultaneously. The full proton radioactivity pattern could be established, with two emission branches and their relative branching ratio. Data processing and analysis that allowed to identify and separate the ion and the proton signals in order to reconstruct the particles trajectories and decay time are detailed. The evaluation of the detection efficiency for the proton radioactivity branches based on a full simulation is described.

Abstract

Proton radioactivity was discovered exactly 50 years ago. First, this nuclear decay mode sets the limit of existence on the nuclear landscape on the neutron-deficient side. Second, it comprises fundamental aspects of both quantum tunnelling as well as the coupling of (quasi)bound quantum states with the continuum in mesoscopic systems such as the atomic nucleus. Theoretical approaches can start either from bound-state nuclear shell-model theory or from resonance scattering. Thus, proton-radioactivity guides merging these types of theoretical approaches, which is of broader relevance for any few-body quantum system. Here, we report experimental measurements of proton-emission branches from an isomeric state in 54mNi, which were visualized in four dimensions in a newly developed detector. We show that these decays, which carry an unusually high angular momentum, ℓ = 5 and ℓ = 7, respectively, can be approximated theoretically with a potential model for the proton barrier penetration and a shell-model calculation for the overlap of the initial and final wave functions., Proton radioactivity is useful for studying nuclear structure. Here the authors report two proton emission branches from the 10+ state isomer of 54mNi by using a time projection chamber.

Abstract

© 2019 Fusion-evaporation reactions with the doubly magic projectile 48 Ca were used to access neutron-deficient nuclei around neptunium at the velocity filter SHIP, and investigated using the COMPASS decay spectroscopy station. With the use of digital electronics, several isotopes produced via neutron, proton, and α evaporation channels were identified by establishing correlated α-decay chains with short-lived sub-μs members. Data are given on decay chains stemming from 225,226 Np, 225 U, and 222,223 Pa. New information on the isotopes 225,226 Np and 222 Pa was obtained. Production cross sections of nuclei in the region using a variety of projectiles are discussed. Abstract

The decay properties of the ground state and excited states of $^{257}$Rf have been investigated with the detector array GABRIELA at the FLNR, Dubna. The electromagnetic decay of a new excited state in $^{253}$No has been observed. The state lies 750 keV above the ground state and is favourably populated in the alpha decay of the low-lying spin isomer of $^{257}$Rf. It decays to the 9/2$^-$ ground state by an M1 transition and is assigned the 11/2$^-$[725] Nilsson configuration. Abstract

The unbound proton-rich nuclei $$^{16}$$ F and $$^{15}$$ F are investigated experimentally and theoretically. Several experiments using the resonant elastic scattering method were performed at GANIL with radioactive beams to determine the properties of the low lying states of these nuclei. Strong asymmetry between $$^{16}$$ F– $$^{16}$$ N and $$^{15}$$ F– $$^{15}$$ C mirror nuclei is observed. The strength of the $$nucleon-nucleon$$ effective interaction involving the loosely bound proton in the $$s_{1/2}$$ orbit is significantly modified with respect to their mirror nuclei $$^{16}$$ N and $$^{15}$$ C. The reduction of the effective interaction is estimated by calculating the interaction energies with a schematic zero-range force. It is found that, after correcting for the effects due to changes in the radial distribution of the single-particle wave functions, the mirror symmetry of the $$n-p$$ interaction is preserved between $$^{16}$$ F and $$^{16}$$ N, while a difference of 63% is measured between the $$p-p$$ versus $$n-n$$ interactions in the second excited state of $$^{15}$$ F and $$^{15}$$ C nuclei. Abstract

Proton radioactivity was discovered exactly 50 years ago. First, this nuclear decay mode sets the limit of existence on the nuclear landscape on the neutron-deficient side. Second, it comprises fundamental aspects of both quantum tunnelling as well as the coupling of (quasi)bound quantum states with the continuum in mesoscopic systems such as the atomic nucleus. Theoretical approaches can start either from bound-state nuclear shell-model theory or from resonance scattering. Thus, proton-radioactivity guides merging these types of theoretical approaches, which is of broader relevance for any few-body quantum system. Abstract

Rotational structures have been measured using the Jurogam II and GAMMASPHERE arrays at low spin following the Gd155(α,2n)Dy157 and Nd148(C12,5n)Dy155 reactions at 25 and 65 MeV, respectively. We report high-K bands, which are conjectured to be the first candidates of a Kπ=2+γ vibrational band, built on the [505]11/2− neutron orbital, in both odd-ADy155,157 isotopes. The coupling of the first excited K=0+ states or the so-called β vibrational bands at 661 and 676 keV in Dy154 and Dy156 to the [505]11/2− orbital, to produce a Kπ=11/2− band, was not observed in both Dy155 and Dy157, respectively. The implication of these findings on the interpretation of the first excited 0+ states in the core nuclei Dy154 and Dy156 are also discussed.

Abstract

Spontaneous fission properties of the isotopes $^{255}\mathrm{Rf}$, $^{256}\mathrm{Rf}$, and $^{258}\mathrm{Rf}$ produced in the reactions $^{50}\mathrm{Ti}+^{207}\mathrm{Pb}$, $^{50}\mathrm{Ti}+^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$, and $^{50}\mathrm{Ti}+^{209}\mathrm{Bi}$ were studied. The method of time and position correlations was used to identify spontaneous fission events. The correction to the energy deficit in measured total kinetic energy (TKE) determined on the basis of a study of $^{252}\mathrm{No}$ was applied to evaluate the $\overline{\mathrm{TKE}}$ of investigated rutherfordium isotopes. A signature which we assigned tentatively to bimodal fission was observed in TKE distributions of $^{255}\mathrm{Rf}$ and $^{256}\mathrm{Rf}$. Two new high-K isomeric states in $^{255}\mathrm{Rf}$ were identified by ER-CE-(CE)-$\ensuremath{\alpha}$/SF correlation search, with half-lives of ${38}_{\ensuremath{-}7}^{+12}$ and ${15}_{\ensuremath{-}4}^{+6}$ $\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$ at excitation energies 1150--1450 and 900--1200 keV, respectively. Including those metastable states a tentative partial level scheme was proposed.

Abstract

The simultaneous measurement of the isotopic fission-fragment yields and fission-fragment velocities of U239 has been performed for the first time. The U239 fissioning system was produced in one-neutron transfer reactions between a U238 beam at 5.88 MeV/nucleon and a Be9 target. The combination of inverse kinematics at low energy and the use of the VAMOS++ spectrometer at the GANIL facility allows the isotopic identification of the full fission-fragment distribution and their velocity in the reference frame of the fissioning system. The proton and neutron content of the fragments at scission, their total kinetic and total excitation energy, as well as the neutron multiplicity were determined. Information from the scission point configuration is obtained from these observables and the correlation between them. The role of the octupole-deformed proton and neutron shells in the fission-fragment production is discussed.

Abstract

The first investigation of the single-particle structure of the bound states of 17C, via the d(16C, p) transfer reaction, has been undertaken. The measured angular distributions confirm the spin-parity assignments of 1/2+ and 5/2+ for the excited states located at 217 and 335 keV, respectively. The spectroscopic factors deduced for these states exhibit a marked single-particle character, in agreement with shell model and particle-core model calculations, and combined with their near degeneracy in energy provide clear evidence for the absence of the N = 14 sub-shell closure. The very small spectroscopic factor found for the 3/2+ ground state is consistent with theoretical predictions and indicates that the {\nu}1d3/2 strength is carried by unbound states. With a dominant l = 0 valence neutron configuration and a very low separation energy, the 1/2+ excited state is a one-neutron halo candidate., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Abstract

A compact silicon detector array with high spatial granularity and fast, fully digital data recording has been developed and commissioned for the investigation of heavy and superheavy nuclear species. The detector array can be combined in close geometry with large volume germanium detectors. It offers comprehensive particle and photon coincidence and correlation spectroscopy by highly efficient evaporation residue, α , γ , conversion electron and X-ray detection supported by the high granularity of the implantation chip. Access to fast decay events in the sub-microsecond region is made possible by the fast timing properties of the digital signal processing. A novel Si-chip support design allows direct cooling of the Si-chips and short signal transport. The compact and modular mechanical design equipped with a standard flange facilitates its transport and connection to different separators at different ion beam facilities. After initial tests, first α - γ coincidence spectroscopy experiments have been performed at the LISE separator of GANIL in Caen, France, in FULIS (velocity filter) mode and at the velocity filter SHIP of GSI in Darmstadt, Germany.

International audience; In this work, we present results from the investigations of high-K isomers in 255Rf, 256Rf and 257Rf isotopes produced in 50Ti+207Pb and 50Ti+208Pb reactions. The method of time and position correlation search was used to identify ER–CE–α/SF events in the data. Previously known high-K states in 256Rf and 257Rf were confirmed. A search for high-K isomer in 255Rf was performed for the first time. Observation of ER–CE correlations with a lifetime of ≈ 30 µs indicates the presence of isomeric states also in this isotope.

Abstract

Fission at low excitation energy, is a process in which both macroscopic and microscopic aspects are involved. Some features in the total kinetic energy and in the N/Z distributions of the fragments, commonly associated with shell effects, came out in a series of recent experiments with high excitation energy fusionfission reactions in inverse kinematics. In the latest experiment of this campaign, a study of high-energy fission and quasi-fission between a 238U beam and a series of light targets was carried out by using the aforementioned technique, in order to probe the role of the shell structure in these processes.

The isotopes 255,256,258Rf were produced in the fusion-evaporation reactions 50Ti + 207,208Pb and 50Ti + 209Bi at GSI Darmstadt, using the velocity filter SHIP. Total kinetic energies of fragments from spontaneous fission for these isotopes were evaluated with a correction to pulse-height defect.

Abstract

International audience; A direct and complete measurement of isotopic fission-fragment yields of U239 has been performed for the first time. The U239 fissioning system was produced with an average excitation energy of 8.3 MeV in one-neutron transfer reactions between a U238 beam and a Be9 target at Coulomb barrier energies. The fission fragments were detected and isotopically identified using the VAMOS++ spectrometer at the GANIL facility. The measurement allows us to directly evaluate the fission models at excitation energies of fast neutrons, which are relevant for next-generation nuclear reactors. The present data, in agreement with model calculations, do not support the recently reported anomaly in the fission-fragment yields of U239, and they confirm the persistence of spherical shell effects in the Sn region at excitation energies exceeding the fission barrier by a few mega-electron volts.

Abstract

International audience; The superheavy isotope$^{258}$Db was produced in the$^{209}$Bi($^{50}$Ti, 1n)$^{258}$Db reaction at GSI, Germany. A detailed $ \alpha$ -spectroscopy study of this isotope and its $ \alpha$ -decay daughter products was performed. Two long-lived $ \alpha$ -decaying states in$^{258}$Db are observed. A spin-parity of $ 0^{-}$ is tentatively assigned to the ground state for which a half-life of $ 2.17 \pm 0.36$ s is determined. Spins and parities of either $ 5^{+}$ or $ 10^{-}$ are proposed for the isomeric state found at an excitation energy of 51 keV with a half-life of $ 4.41 \pm 0.21$ s. The $ \alpha$ -decay daughter isotope$^{254}$Lr displays a similar behavior. A half-life of $ 11.9 \pm 0.9$ s is determined for the$^{254}$Lr ground state which is tentatively assigned a spin-parity of $ 4^{+}$ . The isomeric level of this isotope placed at 108 keV with a half-life of $ 20.3 \pm 4.2$ s is tentatively assigned a spin-parity of $ 1^{-}$ . Two long-lived $ \alpha$ -decaying states are observed in the granddaughter isotope$^{250}$Md . The ground state has a half-life of $ 59.5 \pm 9.1$ s. A half-life of $ 42.4 \pm 4.5$ s is measured for the isomeric state positioned at an excitation energy of 123 keV. Partial, tentative level schemes for$^{254}$Lr,$^{250}$Md and$^{246}$Es are proposed based on the $ \alpha$ - $ \gamma$ coincidences.

Abstract

The Super Separator Spectrometer (S3S3) facility is developed in the framework of the SPIRAL2 project [1]. S3S3 has been designed to extend the capability of the facility to perform experiments with extremely low cross sections, taking advantage of the very high intensity stable beams of the superconducting linear accelerator of SPIRAL2. It will mainly use fusion-evaporation reactions to reach extreme regions of the nuclear chart: new opportunities will be opened for super-heavy element studies and spectroscopy at and beyond the driplines. In addition to our previous article (Dechery et al. [2]) introducing the optical layout of the spectrometer and the expected performances, this article will present the current status of the main elements of the facility: the target station, the superconducting multipole, and the magnetic and electric dipoles, with a special emphasis on the status of the detection system SIRIUS and on the low-energy branch which includes the REGLIS3 system. S3S3 will also be a source of low energy radioactive isotopes for delivery to the DESIR facility.

Abstract

To study exotic nuclides at the borders of stability with laser ionization and spectroscopy techniques, highest efficiencies in combination with a high spectral resolution are required. These usually opposing requirements are reconciled by applying the in-gas-laser ionization and spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique in the supersonic gas jet produced by a de Laval nozzle installed at the exit of the stopping gas cell. Carrying out laser ionization in the low-temperature and low density supersonic gas jet eliminates pressure broadening, which will significantly improve the spectral resolution. This article presents the required modifications at the Leuven Isotope Separator On-Line (LISOL) facility that are needed for the first on-line studies of in-gas-jet laser spectroscopy. Different geometries for the gas outlet and extraction ion guides have been tested for their performance regarding the acceptance of laser ionized species as well as for their differential pumping capacities. Abstract

Introduction Poisoning by cardiotoxic drugs is the leading cause of cardiac arrest in people under 40 years of age (1). Although antidotes exist for a few specific situations, poisoning management is most often based on supportive treatments, particularly extracorporeal life support (ECLS) (2). Our study aimed to describe the outcome of patients treated with ECLS for cardiotropic intoxication. Methods We conducted an observational, retrospective monocentric study between 2007 and 2018, in a Universitary Hospital (France). All patients implanted with ECLS for refractory cardiac arrest (RCA) or refractory cardiogenic shock (RCC) due to poisoning by cardiotoxic drugs were included. Results Among 839 ECLS performed in our hospital, 21 patients (mean age 46 ± 14 years) met the inclusion criteria. Median SAPS 2 was 80 (43-101). Five patients survived, with a good neurological outcome (CPC 1-2). Eleven patients suffered RCA with a median duration of 80 min (45-120 min), none of them survived. Ten patients have experienced refractory cardiogenic shock, 5 of them with one or more short cardiac arrest. The survivors have no cardiac arrest (3/5) or a short cardiac arrest (2/5, less than 7 min), they also have higher pH and lower blood lactate level (Table 1). The diversity of toxic and ingested doses did not allow to study their specific effect. Hemorrhagic and vascular complications related to ECLS occurred in 12 patients. Discussion ECLS after cardiotoxic drugs poisoning shows encouraging results for patients with RCC, particularly when no cardiac arrest occurs (3). It seems though reasonable to propose ECLS early during cardiogenic shock after poisoning. However, regarding RCA, the disappointing results should lead physicians to take into account other prognostic factors to guide the decision to implement ECLS, as in other RCA causes.

Abstract

series of experiments performed in 2014–2015 using the SHELS separator and a beam of multicharged ions from the U-400 accelerator at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (Joint Institute for Nuclear Research) in Dubna is described. In preparation for a large program of experiments with a beam of highly charged ions of 50Ti, an experiment is performed to study the spontaneous fissioning (SF) of short-lived neutron-deficient isotope 256Rf formed in complete fusion reaction50Ti + 208Pb = 256Rf + 2n. The half-life of 256Rf is measured along with the probability of its SF decay. The average number of neutrons per one event of 256Rf SF ( $$\bar v$$ = 4.47 ± 0.09) is obtained for the first time. The results from experiments to study the SF of short-lived neutron-deficient isotopes synthesized in complete fusion reaction 48Ca + 204Pb → 252No* are presented as well. Two short-lived activities attributed to the SF of the ground and isomeric states of 250No are revealed. The half-life, total kinetic energies of fission fragments, and neutron multiplicities are measured for the obtained short-lived nuclei. The average numbers of neutrons per one SF event are $$\bar v$$ = 4.38 ± 0.13 and $$\bar v$$ = 3.90 ± 0.20, respectively, for SF activity with t1/2 = 5.1 ± 0.3 and t1/2 = 36 ± 3 μs.

Abstract

The in-depth study of the regions of Superheavy elements and the proton drip line around 100Sn are two major challenges of today’s Nuclear Physics. Performing detailed spectroscopic studies on these nuclei requires a significant improvement of our detection capabilities. The Super-Separator-Spectrometer S3 is part of the SPIRAL2 facility at GANIL. Its aim is to use the high stable beam currents provided by the new LINAC to reach rare isotopes by fusion-evaporation.

Abstract

International audience; The new COMPASS detection system designed and developed at GSI, Darmstadt was employed in the focal plane of the SHIP velocity filter on-line during a period of commissioning. The isotope 254No was initially measured for control purposes, following which the nuclei, 227,228,230U, 229Np, and 229,230Pu were synthesized. The obtained data from α-decay spectroscopy is evaluated and compared with previous measurements.

Abstract

International audience; Spontaneous fission of 255Rf, 256Rf and 258Rf was studied at SHIP in GSI Darmstadt. The isotopes were produced in fusion–evaporation reactions 50Ti + 207,208Pb and 50Ti + 209Bi (compound nuclei 257Rf, 258Rf and 259Db, respectively) and implanted into the focal plane detector of the SHIP setup. The deficit in the measured fragments energies was evaluated as a function of implantation depth of evaporation residues in the silicon detector. This correction was applied to obtain the mean total kinetic energies of 255Rf, 256Rf and 258Rf.
