Introduction: Vitamin D – concretely its active form 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) – maintains several physiological processes. Oxylipins are oxidized lipids derived from ω-6 and ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids involved in inflammation. Little is known about the association of 1,25(OH)2D with inflammatory parameters in middle-aged populations – who could be at risk of vitamin D deficiency –. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between 1,25(OH)2D plasma levels with circulating white blood cells, platelets counts and oxylipins levels. Materials and methods: A total of 74 (53 % women) middle-aged (40–65 years old) adults were recruited for this cross-sectional study. 1,25(OH)2D plasma levels were measured using an immunochemiluminometric assay. White blood cells and platelets were analyzed by hemocytometry. ω-6 and ω-3 oxylipins plasma levels were measured using liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometry. Simple and multiple linear regression models, and Pearson correlation analyses, were performed to study the association of 1,25(OH)2D levels with WBC and platelets counts, and oxylipins, respectively. Results: 1,25(OH)2D plasma levels were positively related with linoleic acid-derived oxylipins and isoprostanes plasma levels, whereas an inverse relationship with dihomo-γ-linolenic acid/linoleic acid and arachidonic acid/ linoleic acid ratios was unveiled. No significant associations were observed for circulating ω-3 oxylipins, white blood cells levels or platelets count. Conclusions: Linoleic acid-derived oxylipins and isoprostanes plasma levels may be influenced by 1,25(OH)2D plasma levels. This study evaluates the potential toxicity of the soils of the Guadiamar Green Corridor (GGC) affected by the Aznalcollar ´ mine spill (Andalusia, Spain), one of the most important mining accidents in Europe in recent decades. Twenty years after the accident, although the area is considered to be recovered, residual contamination in soils persists, and the bioavailability of some contaminants, such as As, is showing trends of increasing. Therefore, the potential residual toxicity in 84 soil samples was evaluated by bioassays with lettuce (Latuca sativa L.), earthworms (Eisenia andrei) and determining the microbial activity by basal respiration and metabolic quotient. The selected soils sampled along the GGC were divided into 4 types according to their physicochemical properties. In the closest part of the mine two soil types appear (SS1 and SS2), originally decarbonated and loamy, with a reduction in lettuce root elongation of 57% and 34% compared to the control, as well as a the highest metabolic quotient (23.9 and 18.1 ng CcO2 μg Cmicrob− 1 h− 1 , respectively) with the highest risk of Pb and As toxicity. Compulsivity is a failure to stop an ongoing behavior that has become inappropriate to the situation and is recognized as a transdiagnostic trait present in different neuropsychiatric disorders. The implication of motivation and emotion, as well as the stress response in compulsive population has not been fully understood. We assessed the motivation to reward and cues, the emotional response in different contexts and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis response in rats selected by a preclinical model of compulsive behavior. Firstly, high (HD) or low (LD) drinkers were selected according to their drinking behavior on schedule-induced polydipsia (SIP). Then, we assessed motivation by the propensity to attribute incentive salience to rewards on Pavlovian Conditioned Approach (PavCA) and motivation to gain reward on Progressive Ratio Schedule of Reinforcement (PRSR). Emotion was measured by Social Dominance on the Tube Test (SDTT) and emotional memory on Passive Avoidance (PA). Plasma corticosterone (CORT) levels in response to SIP were assessed. HD rats showed a socioemotional deficit by fewer victories on the SDTT, and an increased latency to enter the dark compartment on the PA. No differences were found between groups regarding to motivational assessment. Moreover, HD rats revealed a blunted time response in the increase of CORT levels at 45 min after SIP compared to LD rats. The findings show that the compulsive phenotype of HD rats exhibit less social dominance, more resistance to extinction and a differential CORT time response to SIP. These findings may contribute to highlight the relevance of assessing socioemotional behaviors and stress response for a better characterization of the vulnerability to compulsive spectrum disorders.

Resumen Staphylococcus aureus se caracteriza por ser la principal causa de bacteriemia nosocomial en el mundo, debido al incremento en la resistencia, a los diferentes factores de patogenicidad y virulencia y la expresión de una gran variedad de proteínas las cuales pertenecen a las moléculas de la matriz adhesiva (MSCRAMM), presentes en la superficie de la bacteria cuya función es la colonización e invasión celular al hospedero y favorecer la formación de biopelícula, El conjunto de estos mecanismos de patogenicidad y virulencia, le permiten a la bacteria persistir en el huésped y en el ambiente, sobreviviendo a factores adversos, al sistema inmune y a los antimicrobianos. Abstract Staphylococcus aureus is a microorganism characterized by being the main cause of nosocomial bacteremia in different places of the world, due to the different virulence and pathogenicity factors. One of the most important is the biofilm formation, which greatly favors bacterial resistance. For the adhesion of the biofilm to biotic and abiotic surfaces, the microbial surface components recognizing adhesive matrix molecules (MSCRAMM), these proteins play a key role in host cell colonization and invasion by the bacteria.

In this paper we study the non-relativistic dynamic of a charged particle in the electromagnetic field induced by a periodically time dependent current J along an infinitely long and infinitely thin straight wire. The motions are described by the Lorentz–Newton equation, in which the electromagnetic field is obtained by solving the Maxwell’s equations with the current distribution J → as data. We prove that many features of the integrable time independent case are preserved. More precisely, introducing cylindrical coordinates, we prove the existence of (non-resonant) radially periodic motions that are also of twist type. In particular, these solutions are Lyapunov stable and accumulated by subharmonic and quasiperiodic motions.

We provide sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions of the Lorentz force equation, which models the motion of a charged particle under the action of an electromagnetic fields. The basic assumptions cover relevant models with singularities like Coulomb-like electric potentials or the magnetic dipole.

Flow coefficients vn of the orders n=1-6 are measured with the High-Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer (HADES) at GSI for protons, deuterons, and tritons as a function of centrality, transverse momentum, and rapidity in Au+Au collisions at sNN=2.4 GeV. Combining the information from the flow coefficients of all orders allows us to construct for the first time, at collision energies of a few GeV, a multidifferential picture of the angular emission pattern of these particles. It reflects the complicated interplay between the effect of the central fireball pressure on the emission of particles and their subsequent interaction with spectator matter. The high precision information on higher order flow coefficients is a major step forward in constraining the equation of state of dense baryonic matter.

We present high-statistic data on charged-pion emission from Au + Au collisions at $$\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 2.4~\hbox {GeV}$$ s NN = 2.4 GeV (corresponding to $$E_{beam} = 1.23~\hbox {A GeV}$$ E beam = 1.23 A GeV ) in four centrality classes in the range 0–40% of the most central collisions. The data are analyzed as a function of transverse momentum, transverse mass, rapidity, and polar angle. Pion multiplicity per participating nucleon decreases moderately with increasing centrality. The polar angular distributions are found to be non-isotropic even for the most central event class. Our results on pion multiplicity fit well into the general trend of the available world data, but undershoot by $$2.5~\sigma $$ 2.5 σ data from the FOPI experiment measured at slightly lower beam energy. We compare our data to state-of-the-art transport model calculations (PHSD, IQMD, PHQMD, GiBUU and SMASH) and find substantial differences between the measurement and the results of these calculations.

We present an analysis of proton-number fluctuations in sNN=2.4 GeV Au197+Au197 collisions measured with the High-Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer (HADES) at GSI Helmholtzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt. With the help of extensive detector simulations done with Isospin Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IQMD) transport model events including nuclear clusters, various nuisance effects influencing the observed proton cumulants have been investigated. Acceptance and efficiency corrections have been applied as a function of fine-grained rapidity and transverse momentum bins, as well as considering local track density dependencies. Next, the effects of volume changes within particular centrality selections have been considered and beyond-leading-order corrections have been applied to the data. The efficiency and volume-corrected proton number moments and cumulants Kn of orders n=1, 2, 3, and 4 have been obtained as a function of centrality and phase-space bin, as well as the corresponding correlators Cn. We find that the observed correlators show a power-law scaling with the mean number of protons, i.e., Cn∞«N»n, indicative of mostly long-range multiparticle correlations in momentum space. We also present a comparison of our results with Au + Au collision data obtained at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at similar centralities but higher √sNN.

Pion induced reactions provide unique opportunities for an unambiguous description of baryonic resonances and their coupling channels by means of a partial wave analysis. Using the secondary pion beam at SIS18, the two pion production in the second resonance region has been investigated to unravel the role of the $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ resonance in the intermediate $\rho$ production. Results on exclusive channels with one pion ($\pi^{-}p$) and two pions ($\pi^{+}\pi^{-}n$, $\pi^{0}\pi^{-}p$) in the final state measured in the $\pi^{-}-p$ reaction at four different pion beam momenta (0.650, 0.685, 0.733, and 0.786 GeV/c) are presented. The excitation function of the different partial waves and $\Delta\pi$, $N\sigma$ and $N\rho$ isobar configurations is obtained, using the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis. The $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ resonance is found to dominate the $N\rho$ final state with the branching ratio $BR=12.2 \pm 1.9\%$.

In country, non-target arthropod (NTA) field evaluations are required to comply with the regulatory process for cultivation of genetically modified (GM) maize in Mexico. Two sets of field trials, Experimental Phase and Pilot Phase, were conducted to identify any potential harm of insect-protected and glyphosate-tolerant maize (MON89O34-3 × MON-88O17-3 and MON-89O34-3 × MON-OO6O3-6) and glyphosatetolerant maize (MON-OO6O3-6) to local NTAs compared to conventional maize. NTA abundance data were collected at 32 sites, providing high geographic and environmental diversity within maize production areas from four ecological regions (ecoregions) in northern Mexico. The most abundant herbivorous taxa collected included field crickets, corn flea beetles, rootworm beetles, cornsilk flies, aphids, leafhoppers, plant bugs and thrips while the most abundant beneficial taxa captured were soil mites, spiders, predatory ground beetles, rove beetles, springtails (Collembola), predatory earwigs, ladybird beetles, syrphid flies, tachinid flies, minute pirate bugs, parasitic wasps and lacewings. Across the taxa analysed, no statistically significant differences in abundance were detected between GM maize and the conventional maize control for 69 of the 74 comparisons (93.2%) indicating thatthe single or stacked insect-protected and herbicide-tolerant GM traits generally exert no marked adverse effects on the arthropod populations compared with conventional maize. The distribution of taxa observed in this study provides evidence that irrespective of variations in overall biodiversity of a given ecoregion, important herbivore, predatory and parasitic arthropod taxa within the commercial maize agroecosystem are highly similar indicating that relevant data generated in one ecoregion can be transportable for the risk assessment of the same or similar GM crop in another ecoregion.

High-statistics $$\pi ^-\pi ^-$$π-π- and $$\pi ^+\pi ^+$$π+π+ femtoscopy data are presented for Au + Au collisions at $$\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 2.4~\hbox {GeV}$$sNN=2.4GeV, measured with HADES at SIS18/GSI. The experimental correlation functions allow the determination of the space-time extent of the corresponding emission sources via a comparison to models. The emission source, parametrized as three-dimensional Gaussian distribution, is studied in dependence on pair transverse momentum, azimuthal emission angle with respect to the reaction plane, collision centrality and beam energy. For all centralities and transverse momenta, a geometrical distribution of ellipsoidal shape is found in the plane perpendicular to the beam direction with the larger extension perpendicular to the reaction plane. For large transverse momenta, the corresponding eccentricity approaches the initial eccentricity. The eccentricity is smallest for most central collisions, where the shape is almost circular. The magnitude of the tilt angle of the emission ellipsoid in the reaction plane decreases with increasing centrality and increasing transverse momentum. All source radii increase with centrality, largely exhibiting a linear rise with the cube root of the number of participants. A substantial charge-sign difference of the source radii is found, appearing most pronounced at low transverse momentum. The extracted source parameters are consistent with the extrapolation of their energy dependence down from higher energies.

In this letter we report the first multi-differential measurement of correlated pion-proton pairs from 2 billion Au+Au collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.42 GeV collected with HADES. In this energy regime the population of \Delta(1232) resonances plays an important role in the way energy is distributed between intrinsic excitation energy and kinetic energy of the hadrons in the fireball. The triple differential d3N/dM{\pi}pdpTdy distributions of correlated {\pi}p pairs have been determined by subtracting the {\pi}p combinatorial background using an iterative method. The invariant-mass distributions in the \Delta(1232) mass region show strong deviations from a Breit-Wigner function with vacuum width and mass. The yield of correlated pion-proton pairs exhibits a complex isospin, rapidity and transverse-momentum dependence. In the invariant mass range 1.1 < Minv (GeV/c2) < 1.4, the yield is found to be similar for {\pi}+p and {\pi}-p pairs, and to follow a power law ^{\alpha}, where is the mean number of participating nucleons. The exponent {\alpha} depends strongly on the pair transverse momentum (pT) while its pT-integrated and charge-averaged value is {\alpha} = 1.5 \pm 0.08stat \pm 0.2sys., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures

In 2018-2019 a cosmic-ray latitude survey at sea level was performed by the TRISTAN detector, an autonomous system composed by three planes of RPCs (120 x 150 cm$^{2}$). The detector made a two-way journey on board of the Spanish vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa between Vigo (Spain) and Punta Arenas (Chile), measuring continuously the cosmic-ray rate throughout the Atlantic crossing. In this work, we present the results of the first journey, correlating the obtained variation of the cosmic-ray rate with the vertical cutoff rigidity, as well as presenting some details of the detector and its autonomous DAQ system used during the campaign.

Rapid sequence induction (RSI) in adults has undergone changes in recent years due to pharmacological and technological advances. The objective of this survey was to evaluate current practice among Spanish anesthesiologists.A 31-item questionnaire regarding RSI practice was sent to anesthesiologists working in Spanish public hospitals. Differences in responses according to the type of hospital or experience of the respondent were compared for all data using the chi-square and Fisher's exact test.Approximately 15.89% of Spanish anesthesiologists participated in the survey (1002 questionnaires). The results show considerable heterogeneity in most aspects of RSI. Less than 20% of respondents administer sodium citrate. Sixty-four percent place a nasogastric tube in patients with intestinal obstruction. Gastric residue is assessed by ultrasound in 6% of cases. Only 25% of respondents measure ETOThe survey showed significant variation in RSI practice, similar to that of other countries. Quality prospective studies are needed to standardize clinical practice.

TRISTAN detector is part of a new family of high accuracy multitracking capabilities. TRISTAN was designed to be installed at the Spanish Antartic Base in Livignston Island, as one of the dectectors of ORCA (Antarctic Cosmic Ray Observaroty). It will be complemented by a neutron monitor and a muon telescope with the purpose of mesuring cosmic rays at different latitudes. Preliminary results on the study of rates of cosmic rays measured during the two-way journey from Vigo (Spain) to Punta Arenas (Chile) are shown in this paper.

Tragaldabas is a timing-RPC-based Cosmic Ray telescope, a member of the Trasgo family. It is intended for analyzing different aspects of Cosmic Ray Physics. The detector, with a footprint of 1.8 m2, offers tracking capability with an angular resolution of about 0.01 sr and time resolution close to 0.3 ns. This telescope is taking data regularly since April 2015. By means of simulation, a powerful tool for Electron/Muon track identification, MIDAS (Multisampling IDentificAtion Software), has been developed over the Tragaldabas detector. The method is based on a systematic study of several observables that are associated with track reconstruction; such as, the Chi-square of the track-fitting, the number of cells fired over all the planes of the detector or the normalized track length, among others. In the case of electrons, this method is able to give an estimate of its energy. Its accuracy is close to 99% for Electron-Muon separation using simulated data.

International audience; A set of detectors devoted to investigate secondary cosmic rays has performed a latitudinal observation from Vigo (Spain) to Juan Carlos I Spanish Antarctic Station (Livingston Island, Antarctic Peninsula) aboard the Sarmiento de Gamboa oceanographic vessel from November $14^{th}$ to January $2^{nd}$. The experiment is split into two modules, one composed by a stack of 3NM64, three BF3 bare counters (NEMO) and a muon telescope (MITO) with a mini neutron monitor in a $20^{\prime}$ maritime container on the Sarmiento de Gamboa$^{\prime}$s deck and a second module (TRISTAN) consisting of a set of 3 RPC planes with a lead layer in between the second and the third plane placed in a separate temperature controlled room below the ship$^{\prime}$s deck. The complete set of instruments is the Antarctic Cosmic Ray Observatory (ORCA) that has been be installed in the Juan Carlos I Spanish Antarctic Base in Livingston Island (Antarctica). The latitudinal survey took ORCA throughout the South Atlantic magnetic anomaly along the Brazilian coast. ORCA is able to measure fluxes of neutrons of different energies, charged particles (mostly muons) and muon incident directions on the detector surface. In this work, we present the preliminary results of the latitudinal survey.

The cosmic rays are formed mainly by protons and atomic nuclei that originate from extraterrestrial sources and continuously reach Earth's atmosphere. When they reach the atmosphere, they are fragmented into smaller pieces producing cascades of secondary particles. The analysis of secondary particles that reach the surface, by specific detectors, can provide very valuable information about different events such as; the activity of the sun, changes in the geomagnetic field or data on the atmosphere. The measures developed are influenced by the environment in which the detector is installed, since various elements of the building or environment in which it is located can interact with the rays. In this document, we present the novel application to the visualization of the cosmic rays measured in a high-resolution detector by 2D, 3D and augmented reality techniques. The detector used is located at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain and is known as TRAGALDABAS.

We present the first observation of K- and \phi absorption within nuclear matter by means of \pi- -induced reactions on C and W targets at an incident beam momentum of 1.7 GeV/c studied with HADES at SIS18/GSI. The double ratio (K-/K+)W / (K-/K+)C is found to be 0.319 \pm 0.009(stat)+0.014-0.012 (syst) indicating a larger absorption of K- in heavier targets as compared to lighter ones. The measured \phi/K- ratios in \pi-+C and \pi^- +W reactions within the HADES acceptance are found to be equal to $0.55 \pm 0.03(stat)+0.06-0.07$ (syst) and to $0.63 \pm 0.05(stat)-0.11+0.11$ (syst), respectively. The similar ratios measured in the two different reactions demonstrate for the first time experimentally that the dynamics of the \phi meson in nuclear medium is strongly coupled to the K- dynamics. The large difference in the \phi production off C and W nuclei is discussed in terms of a strong \phiN in-medium coupling., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants exhibiting symptoms resembling those of permanent yellowing disease (known in Mexico as “permanente del tomate”) that is commonly associated with phytoplasmas (1) were observed in tomato fields in Sinaloa, México in March 2009. Plant symptoms also resembled those caused by “Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum” infection (2). Affected plants showed an overall chlorosis, severe stunting, leaf cupping, purple discoloration of veins, excessive branching of axillary shoots, and leaf scorching (1,2). Symptom incidence ranged from 18 to 40%. To investigate whether liberibacter is associated with permanent yellowing disease of tomato in México, eight symptomatic and five asymptomatic tomato plants were collected from two fields in La Cruz de Elota and Culiacán, Sinaloa. Total DNA was extracted from the top whole leaf tissue of symptomatic and asymptomatic plants with cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) buffer (3,4). DNA samples were tested by PCR using primer pairs OA2/OI2c and CL514F/CL514R, which amplify a sequence from the 16S rDNA and rplJ and rplL ribosomal protein genes, respectively, of “Ca. L. solanacearum” (2,4). The DNA samples were also tested for phytoplasmas with nested PCR using universal primer pairs P1/P7 and fU5/rU3 (3). DNA from five and four symptomatic plants yielded the expected 1,168-bp 16S rDNA and 669-bp rplJ/rplL amplicons, respectively, indicating the presence of liberibacter. Extracts from asymptomatic plants yielded no products with these primers. Amplicons generated from three symptomatic plants with each primer pair were cloned into pCRII-TOPO plasmid vectors (Invitrogen, Carlsbad, CA) and three clones of each of these amplicons were subsequently sequenced in both directions (ACGT, Inc., Wheeling, IL). BLAST analysis of the 16S rDNA consensus sequence (GenBank Accession No. FJ957897) showed 100% identity to 16S rDNA sequences of “Ca. L. solanacearum” amplified from S. betaceum (EU935004) and S. lycopersicum (EU834130) from New Zealand (2), and “Ca. L. psyllaurous” from potato psyllids (EU812559). The rplJ/rplL consensus sequence (GenBank Accession No. FJ957895) was 100% identical to the analogous rplJ and rplL “Ca. L. solanacearum” ribosomal protein gene sequence amplified from S. lycopersicum (EU834131) from New Zealand (2) and ‘Ca. Liberibacter’ sp. sequence amplified from zebra chip-infected potatoes from Lancaster, CA (FJ498803). No phytoplasmas were detected in the symptomatic tomato plants. To our knowledge, this is the first report of “Ca. L. solanacearum” associated with tomatoes in México. In 2008, this bacterium was detected in glasshouse tomatoes in New Zealand and caused millions of dollars in losses to the commercial glasshouse tomato industry (2). References: (1) R. L. Según los últimos estudios moleculares sobre la taxonomía de la papa (Solanum tuberosum), el origen y domesticación de esta especie tuvo lugar en la sierra del Perú, aparentemente en una región que incluye los actuales departamentos de Huánuco, Cerro de Pasco, Junín, Huancavelica, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Cuzco y Puno. Sin Embargo, parece ser que la papa fue cultivada intensivamente por primera vez en la región que circunda el Lago Titicaca, asociado al desarrollo cultural de la sociedad Tiwanaku. Esta cultura se diseminó hacia todos los puntos cardinales, incluyendo Argentina y Chile, pero principalmente hacia el norte, influenciando culturas peruanas como Pucará y Wari que eventualmente formarían el primer gran imperio Wari-Tiwanaku del Perú (A.D. 700-1100). La intensificación del cultivo de la papa fue fundamental en la creación de este imperio que abarcó desde el norte hasta el sur de las regiones costeras y serranas del Perú. La segunda gran expansión del cultivo de la papa, se da durante la creación del imperio Inca del Tawantinsuyo, el cual se extendió desde el sur de Colombia hasta la zona central de Chile. Sin embargo, el cultivo de la papa ya estaba arraigado en las regiones andinas de Colombia y Ecuador posiblemente desde la segunda mitad del primer milenio antes de la era cristiana (ca. 500 a.C.). No se sabe cuando se inició el cultivo de las papas ‘chilotas’ en el sur de Chile, las cuales eventualmente darían origen a la papa europea, pero este ya estaba establecido a la llegada de los españoles en el siglo XVI.

The HADES collaboration uses the e+e−production as a probe of the resonance matter produced in collisions at incident energies of 1-3.5 GeV/nucleon at GSI. Elementary reactions provide useful references for these studies and give information on resonance Dalitz decays (R→Ne+e−). Such processes are sensitive to the structure of time-like electromagnetic baryon transitions in a kinematic range where (off-shell) vector mesons play a crucial role. Results obtained in proton-proton reactions and in a commissioning pion-beam experiment are reported and prospects for future pion beam experiments and for first hyperon Dalitz decay measurements are described. The connection with the investigations of medium effects to be continued with HADES in the next years at SIS18 and SIS100 is also discussed.

Some of the main features of the new generation Trasgo detectors are their capability in measuring the incoming direction and the arrival time of secondary cosmic particles. They also offer the identification capability between muon and electrons and a rough calorimetry for electrons. Using ground-based stations, these properties allow for the development of new tools for the measurement of primary cosmic ray fluxes. In order to verify and quantify the suitability of Trasgo detectors, whether a single one or arrays of them, to provide reliable information of the properties (mass, energy, incoming direction) of primary cosmic rays we have started an initiative for the systematic study of the 'lateral distributions' displayed by electrons and muons, or by bundles of those particles, using MonteCarlo simulations. In a first approach, electrons and muons were produced in vertical showers from primary H, He, C and Fe nuclei, and with incoming energies limited to a maximum of 10$^{15}$ eV per nucleon. This choice represents a significant component of all secondary particles, which can be measured on Earth's surface. The lateral distributions study has been done at the two locations of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and Livingston Island (Antarctica), where Trasgo detectors are either in operation, or will be operative in the near future.

International audience; About 10 μs after the Big Bang, the universe was filled—in addition to photons and leptons—with strong-interaction matter consisting of quarks and gluons, which transitioned to hadrons at temperatures close to kT = 150 MeV and densities several times higher than those found in nuclei. This quantum chromodynamics (QCD) matter can be created in the laboratory as a transient state by colliding heavy ions at relativistic energies. The different phases in which QCD matter may exist depend for example on temperature, pressure or baryochemical potential, and can be probed by studying the emission of electromagnetic radiation. Electron–positron pairs emerge from the decay of virtual photons, which immediately decouple from the strong interaction, and thus provide information about the properties of QCD matter at various stages. Here, we report the observation of virtual photon emission from baryon-rich QCD matter. The spectral distribution of the electron–positron pairs is nearly exponential, providing evidence for a source of temperature in excess of 70 MeV with constituents whose properties have been modified, thus reflecting peculiarities of strong-interaction QCD matter. Its bulk properties are similar to the dense matter formed in the final state of a neutron star merger, as apparent from recent multimessenger observation.

We investigate identical pion HBT intensity interferometry for central Au+Au collisions at 1.23A GeV. High-statistics $\pi^-\pi^-$ and $\pi^+\pi^+$ data are measured with HADES at SIS18/GSI. The radius parameters, derived from the correlation function depending on relative momenta in the longitudinal-comoving system and parametrized as three-dimensional Gaussian distribution, are studied as function of transverse momentum. A substantial charge-sign difference of the source radii is found, particularly pronounced at low transverse momentum. The extracted Coulomb-corrected source parameters agree well with a smooth extrapolation of the center-of-mass energy dependence established at higher energies, extending the corresponding excitation functions down towards a very low energy. Our data would thus rather disfavour any strong energy dependence of the radius parameters in the low energy region., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, updated author and grant lists

Key Points Question Have emergency department clinicians responded to the opioid epidemic through altering opioid prescription rates? Findings In this cross-sectional study of 556 176 emergency department patient encounters and 70 218 opioid prescriptions within a single emergency department, yearly prescriptions decreased by 66.3% between 2013 and 2018. This decrease was associated with a 71.1% reduction in the number of opioid prescriptions for musculoskeletal pain (back, limb, joint, and neck pain) and lesser, but still marked, decreases for fractures and kidney stones. Meaning Reductions in yearly opioid prescriptions across varying indications appear to be aligned with recognition of the opioid crisis in addition to national, state, and departmental education guidelines., Importance Opioid prescriptions for treatment of pain in emergency departments (EDs) are associated with long-term opioid use. The temporal pattern of opioid prescribing in the context of the opioid epidemic remains unknown. Objective To examine the temporal pattern of opioid prescribing within an ED for varying pain conditions between 2009 and 2018. Design, Setting, and Participants A population-based, cross-sectional study was conducted at the ED of an urban academic medical center. All patients treated within that ED between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2018, were included. Main Outcomes and Measures The proportion of patients prescribed an opioid for treatment of pain in the ED temporally by condition, condition type, patient demographics, and physician prescriber. Results Between 2009 and 2018, 556 176 patient encounters took place in the ED, with 70 218 unique opioid prescriptions ordered. A total of 316 632 patients (55.9%) were female, 45 070 (42.6%) were of white race, and 43 412 (40.6%) were privately insured; the median age group was 41 to 45 years. Yearly opioid prescriptions decreased by 66.3% (from 16.3 to 5.5 opioids per 100 encounters) between 2013 and 2018, with a yearly adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 0.808 (95% CI, 0.802-0.814) compared with the prior year. In patients with musculoskeletal pain (back, joint, limb, and neck pain), opioid prescribing decreased by 71.1% (from 36.7 to 10.6 opioids per 100 encounters between 2013 and 2018; aOR, 0.758; 95% CI, 0.744-0.773). In patients with musculoskeletal trauma (fracture, sprain, contusion, and injury), opioid prescribing decreased by 58.0% (from 34.2 to 14.8 opioids per 100 encounters; aOR, 0.811; 95% CI, 0.797-0.824). In patients with nonmusculoskeletal pain (abdominal pain, kidney stone, respiratory distress, and pharyngitis) opioid prescribing decreased by 53.7% (from 20.1 to 9.3 opioids per 100 encounters; aOR, 0.850; 95% CI, 0.834-0.868). Between 2009 and 2018, patients who were black (aOR, 0.760; 95% CI, 0.741-0.779) and those who were Asian (aOR, 0.714; 95% CI, 0.665-0.764) had the lowest odds of receiving an opioid compared with other racial/ethnic groups. Conclusions and Relevance There was a substantial temporal decrease in the number of opioid prescriptions within this ED during the study period. This decrease was associated with substantial relative reductions in opioid prescribing for treatment of musculoskeletal pain compared with fractures and kidney stones., This cross-sectional study examines the temporal pattern of opioid prescribing for patients with pain conditions in an urban emergency department over a 10-year period.

The aim of the present study was to explore the feasibility of obtaining an IVIVC by combination of data from two bioequivalence (BE) studies of carbamazepine (CBZ) in order to assess if the previously published dissolution media and conditions could be applicable to any other oral immediate release (IR) CBZ products with conventional excipients. Twenty-four healthy male subjects from two BE study received one IR dose of the test (test 1 or 2) or the reference formulation (Tegretol, 400 mg). Dissolution studies of the IR CBZ tablets were performed in two different laboratories. In order to develop IVIVC, individual or average data analysis were considered. A level C, level B and level A correlation have been successfully developed by combining data from different BE studies of CBZ immediate release drug products. A level A IVIVC was developed with all four datasets with a good R2 for all the combinations of in vivo and in vitro data. A dissolution medium containing 1% SLS has demonstrated its suitability as the universal biopredictive dissolution medium, even if different batches and in vivo/in vitro studies were combined.

The tagged quasi-free np→npπ+π- reaction has been studied experimentally with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at GSI at a deuteron incident beam energy of 1.25 GeV/nucleon (s~2.42 GeV/c for the quasi-free collision). For the first time, differential distributions of solid statistics for π+π- production in np collisions have been collected in the region corresponding to the large transverse momenta of the secondary particles. The invariant mass and angular distributions for the np→npπ+π- reaction are compared with different models. This comparison confirms the dominance of the t-channel with δδ contribution. It also validates the changes previously introduced in the Valencia model to describe two-pion production data in other isospin channels, although some deviations are observed, especially for the π+π- invariant mass spectrum. The extracted total cross section is also in much better agreement with this model. Our new measurement puts useful constraints for the existence of the conjectured dibaryon resonance at mass M~2.38 GeV and with width Γ~70 MeV.

We report on the investigation of Δ(1232) production and decay in proton-proton collisions at a kinetic energy of 1.25 GeV measured with HADES. Exclusive dilepton decay channels ppe+e− and ppe+e−γ have been studied and compared with the partial-wave analysis of the hadronic ppπ0 channel. They allow to access both Δ+→pπ0(e+e−γ) and Δ+→pe+e− Dalitz decay channels. The perfect reconstruction of the well-known π0 Dalitz decay serves as a proof of the consistency of the analysis. The Δ Dalitz decay is identified for the first time and the sensitivity to N-Δ transition form factors is tested. The Δ(1232) Dalitz decay branching ratio is also determined for the first time; our result is (4.19 ± 0.62 syst. ± 0.34 stat.) ×10−5, albeit with some model dependence.

Introduction Dyspepsia and Helicobacter pylori are two of the most relevant digestive conditions in primary care. Several consensuses on the subject have been published, but the assimilation/implementation of these guidelines is uncertain. Aims and methods To evaluate the attitudes, perceptions, limitations, and adherence to recommendations of Spanish primary care physicians using an open online survey. Responses were anonymously codified. Estimated margin of error was 3.4%. Responses were weighted by province, gender, age, and type of practice. Survey was performed using the AEG-REDCap platform. Results A total of 1445 responses, received between December 2017 and April 2018, were analyzed. Women represented 54%, and the average age was 48 years; 59% were from urban context, 20% from semi-urban, and 21% from rural; 93% provided public practice. Over 40% had read at least one Maastricht consensus (24% Maastricht V), and 34% had attended a course related to H. pylori. 16% reported no direct access to any validated diagnostic method, only 44% to urea breath test, and 33% did not systematically refer to eradication confirmation test. The first-line treatment of choice was standard triple therapy in 56%, followed by concomitant therapy (28%). Only 20% of physicians had optimal adherence to recommendations. Conclusion Even though some improvements from guidelines have been partially incorporated, the level of penetration of recommendations is still poor and delayed. To provide optimal primary care, the barriers for implementation, access to diagnostic tests and to continuous medical education, should be removed. Rigorous dissemination, implementation, and evaluation programs are desired in future consensuses.
