After the research about Sulpiride, a new substituted benzamide has been studied. Although it was characterized by modest pharmacological effects in the neuroleptic identification tests, LIN 1418 turned out to have very interesting therapeutic properties. A study conducted with 50 cases, 30 of which were submitted a systematic pluridisciplinary control, leads to provisory conclusions as follows: 1) its psychotropic effects are powerful and constant; 2) its prevailing action is antipsychotic and desinhibiting altogether; 3) while LIN 1418 appears as successful with all psychoses, whether acute or chronic, up to now, the quality of its results in many chronic psychoses seems to be particularly remarkable; 4) its side-effects are those of most neuroleptics: its extrapyramidal symptoms being all the more obvious as the patient's "passivity" is less important.

The psychopathological scale of AMDP system is voluntary limited to descriptive aspects of psychopathology. If the term psychopathology could be considered identical to psychiatric semiology, the words signs and symptoms go above the descriptive stade: the greek name sumptôma contains sun (with) and piptein (appear), while the word sign is an intellectual deduction of observed symptoms. In the AMDP-3, the sense of evaluated symptoms results from the configurational approach, for example a factor analysis. The splitting of german psychopathological concepts in items and the evaluation of these items in relation to observable compounds bind to their configurational structure will, no doubt, permit to avoid the obstacle of a different conceptualisation of the same symptoms from one school to the other. Furthermore, the AMDP-3 scale and its manual constitute a remarkable teaching instrument for psychopathology, not always enough appreciated.

30 unrelated Schizophrenic patients (15 Hebephrenic and 15 Paranoïd forms) were Typed for 14 A and 16 B Specificities by microlymphocytotoxicity. We note: 10 (5H + 5P) HLA--A1 (33.3 % / controls 23.4 %) 5 (2H + 3P) HLA--A3 (16.6 % / controls 26.2 %) 6 (5H + 1P) HLA--B8, 0 HLA--B27, 0 HLA BW16 and more specially: 10 (3H + 7P) HLA--A9 (23 + 24) 8 (2H + 6P) HLA--B5 These two last antigens are more often found in the Paranoïd patients of whom 46.6% are A9 Tcontrols: 24 %) and 40 % are B5 (controls 13.2 %. The Pc values are not significant in these too short seria but the strongly increased frequencies of A9 and B5 in the Paranoïd group seem to open a new biological aspect in the nosographic distinction of the Schizophrenia and so confirm previous results of C. L. CAZZULLO et al.

Schizophrenias have a genetical support as it is now proved by the study of twins born from schizophrenic parents and of the adopted children of schizophrenics. The HLA typing brings an additional argument in favour of this hypothesis. After a recall of data concerning the system of tissular histocompatibility, the results are given of the HLA typing of a population of 65 schizophrenics (59 men, 6 women) including 27 hebephrenics and 38 paranoïds. The paranoïd group is clearly individualized from a genetic point of view. If 40% of the schizophrenics carry the A9 antigen versus 21,2% found in the normal population, 47,4 % of the paranoïd schizophrenics present this antigen (X2) = 12,16 p less than 0,001). The association of the two antigens A9 and CW4 is even more significant: 14,3 % of the total schizophrenic population, as opposed to 2,7 % in the normal population (X2) = 13,3 p less than 0,0005). The paranoid group reached a rate of 24,3% (x(2) = 27,3 p less than 0,0005). A subject carrier of both antigens A9 + CW4 has 11,5 times more the risk of being a paranoïd schizophrenic than a subject not possessing these two antigens.

Metapramine is a new antidepressant drug. A tricyclic molecule gives it a novel activity in so far as its thymoanaleptic and, at the same time, psychostimulating actions are concerned. Quick acting, metapramine has a very interesting peculiarity: its large tolerance which seems to be related to a no-anticholinergic effect.

A hundred and thirty patients have been treated with Amitriptylin in the "Clinique de Psychiatrie" in Marseille during the last eight years. The review of the hundred cases for which the information are the most detailed show that Amitriptylin remains one of the most powerful, manageable and well-tolerated anti-depressant drugs available at the present time. Its therapeutic indications are numerous, but the best ones are proceeding from depressed states with high anxious participation in subjects of less that 60 years of age.

The sleep of 2 groups of subjects receiving lithium was studied. Ten normal controls after 17 days of lithium had a significant decrease of Paradoxical Sleep duration, with an increase of PS latency. A second group of 10 manic-depressive patients had received lithium for 22 +/- 6 months when they were recorded. They had a greater amount of slow wave sleep than the control group before lithium but the difference of PS duration was only related to a first night effect. Therefore sleep changes induced by lithium are different according to the duration of lithium administration. In any case they are less important than those induced by most of the anti-depressants.
