To prevent caries and periodontal disease in overdenture abutment teeth, daily application of chlorhexidine gel is recommended. In order to get insight into the use of the gel, 29 overdenture wearing patients were interviewed. In addition the patients were requested to show the use of the gel. It was concluded that at any time the patients were instructed about the use of the gel. Nevertheless, a majority of the patients did not use the gel daily and in accordance with the instructions given. Application of the gel in the abutment depressions of the overdenture appeared to be a heavy task.

A computer-based structural design methodology is presented for the least-weight design of planar frameworks subjected to multiple dynamic loads. The method makes use of dynamic finite element analysis, sensitivity analysis, first-order Taylor series approximations and the identification of response extrema to convert the time-parametric design problem into an explicit non-parametric form, which is solved iteratively using a dual optimization routine. The focus of the study is not to develop a general-purpose design capability but, rather, to examine the computational aspects of accounting for multiple dynamic loads in the design process. Two example truss designs under multiple regular sinusoidal wave loadings and multiple irregular earthquake loadings are presented.

Constraints are placed on dynamic displacements, dynamic stresses, natural frequencies and member sizes. The method makes use of dynamic finite element analysis, sensitivity analysis and first-order Taylor series constraint approximations. Extreme responses are identified so as to convert the time-parametric design problem into an explicit non-parametric form, which is solved iteratively using a dual optimization routine. The number of iterations necessary to achieve convergence to the minimum weight design is quite small and relatively independent of the complexity of the structure. The method can account for combined axial and bending stresses, and is capable of designing minimum weight structures under simultaneous static and dynamic loading. Several example framework designs are presented to illustrate the features of the design method.

Such diversion, in the court drama for example, tended to reflect the ideals of order and stability carefully nurtured and maintained in the outward show of the Queen and her courtto reflect, in one way, what was usefully acknowledged as being true or within the realm of the possibly attainable rather than what was actually the state of affairs or, conversely, the affairs of state.
