1. Simulation Study on Impacts of Viaduct Height on Pollutant Dispersion in Street Canyons Using LES and RANS Models

Abstract: To assess the impact of different heights of the viaduct on air pollutant dispersion and the prediction accuracy of pollutant concentration in urban street canyons, simulation results based on LES and RANS models are analyzed. The presence of a viaduct generated a poorly ventilated region underneath it, and RANS significantly underestimated the wind speed and grossly overestimated the pollutant concentration. LES gives better results for the flow pattern, distribution of turbulent kinetic energy and mean pollutant concentration. With a fluctuation of less than 15% of the pollutant concentration, both RANS and LES cases show that an increase in the viaduct height has a weak impact on the concentration of pollutants in most areas of the canyon except windward, and cases with a viaduct height of 0.75H had the lowest predicted pollutant concentration relative to other cases with a viaduct as a result of better ventilation. In addition, LES found a subregion of pollutant accumulation above the ground, but RANS did not.

2. Allostatic load as a predictor of postoperative complications in patients with breast cancer

Abstract: Abstract Allostatic load (AL) is a biological measure of cumulative exposure to socioenvironmental stressors (e.g., poverty). This study aims to examine the association between allostatic load (AL) and postoperative complications (POC) among patients with breast cancer. Females ages 18+ with stage I-III breast cancer who received surgical management between 01/01/2012-12/31/2020 were identified in the Ohio State Cancer registry. The composite AL measure included biomarkers from the cardiovascular, metabolic, immune, and renal systems. High AL was defined as composite scores greater than the cohort’s median (2.0). POC within 30 days of surgery were examined. Univariable and multivariable regression analysis examined the association between AL and POC. Among 4459 patients, 8.2% had POC. A higher percentage of patients with POC were unpartnered (POC 44.7% vs no POC 35.5%), government-insured (POC 48.2% vs no POC 38.3%) and had multiple comorbidities (POC 32% vs no POC 20%). Patients who developed POC were more likely to have undergone sentinel lymph node biopsy followed by axillary lymph node dissection (POC 51.2% vs no POC 44.6%). High AL was associated with 29% higher odds of POC (aOR 1.29, 95% CI 1.01–1.63). A one-point increase in AL was associated with 8% higher odds of POC (aOR 1.08, 95% CI 1.02-1.16) and a quartile increase in AL was associated with 13% increased odds of POC (aOR 1.13, 95% CI 1.01–1.26). Among patients undergoing breast cancer surgery, increased exposure to adverse socioenvironmental stressors, operationalized as AL, was associated with higher odds of postoperative complications.

Abstract: This paper presents a series of Berkovich indentation results obtained on unirradiated and 7.2 MeV proton irradiated specimens of a Fe9Cr model alloy with an equiaxed ferritic microstructure. Using a energy degrader wheel made of 24 aluminum foils of different thickness, a flat damage profile of about 50 μm resulted from the irradiation, allowing to perform indentations within a volume material that is homogeneously irradiated. The indentation size effect on measured hardness was analyzed with a model based on the disloction-slip distance theory built on the concept of combined spatial frequency of all obstacles to dislocation motion. The effects on hardness of the tip-specimen contact size (or penetration depth), dislocation density and mean distance between irradiation defects were quantified and discussed. The irradiation hardening was characterized by the increase of hardness determined at large penetration depths.

Abstract: Abstract Background Mutations in certain genes are known to increase breast cancer risk. We study the relevance of rare protein-truncating variants (PTVs) that may result in loss-of-function in breast cancer susceptibility genes on tumor characteristics and survival in 8852 breast cancer patients of Asian descent. Methods Gene panel sequencing was performed for 34 known or suspected breast cancer predisposition genes, of which nine genes (ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, PALB2, BARD1, RAD51C, RAD51D, and TP53) were associated with breast cancer risk. Associations between PTV carriership in one or more genes and tumor characteristics were examined using multinomial logistic regression. Ten-year overall survival was estimated using Cox regression models in 6477 breast cancer patients after excluding older patients (≥75years) and stage 0 and IV disease. Results PTV9genes carriership (n = 690) was significantly associated (p < 0.001) with more aggressive tumor characteristics including high grade (poorly vs well-differentiated, odds ratio [95% confidence interval] 3.48 [2.35–5.17], moderately vs well-differentiated 2.33 [1.56–3.49]), as well as luminal B [HER−] and triple-negative subtypes (vs luminal A 2.15 [1.58–2.92] and 2.85 [2.17–3.73], respectively), adjusted for age at diagnosis, study, and ethnicity. Associations with grade and luminal B [HER2−] subtype remained significant after excluding BRCA1/2 carriers. PTV25genes carriership (n = 289, excluding carriers of the nine genes associated with breast cancer) was not associated with tumor characteristics. However, PTV25genes carriership, but not PTV9genes carriership, was suggested to be associated with worse 10-year overall survival (hazard ratio [CI] 1.63 [1.16–2.28]). Conclusions PTV9genes carriership is associated with more aggressive tumors. Variants in other genes might be associated with the survival of breast cancer patients. The finding that PTV carriership is not just associated with higher breast cancer risk, but also more severe and fatal forms of the disease, suggests that genetic testing has the potential to provide additional health information and help healthy individuals make screening decisions.

Abstract: Abstract Using a sample of $$1.31\times 10^{9} ~J/\psi $$ 1.31×109J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γKK¯η′ . X(2370) is observed in the $$K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ KK¯η′ invariant-mass distribution with a statistical significance of $$8.3\sigma $$ 8.3σ . Its resonance parameters are measured to be $$M=2341.6\pm 6.5 \, \text {(stat.)} \pm 5.7 \, \text {(syst.)}~ \hbox {MeV}/c^{2}$$ M=2341.6±6.5(stat.)±5.7(syst.)MeV/c2 and $$\Gamma = 117\pm 10 \, \text {(stat.)}\pm 8 \, \text {(syst.)}~\hbox {MeV}$$ Γ=117±10(stat.)±8(syst.)MeV . The product branching fractions for $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2370),X(2370)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γX(2370),X(2370)→K+K-η′ and $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2370),X(2370)\rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γX(2370),X(2370)→KS0KS0η′ are determined to be $$(1.79\pm 0.23\, \text {(stat.)}\pm 0.65\,\text {(syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$$ (1.79±0.23(stat.)±0.65(syst.))×10-5 and $$(1.18\pm 0.32\, \text {(stat.)}\pm 0.39\, \text {(syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$$ (1.18±0.32(stat.)±0.39(syst.))×10-5 , respectively. No evident signal for X(2120) is observed in the $$K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ KK¯η′ invariant-mass distribution. The upper limits for the product branching fractions of $${\mathcal {B}}(J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2120)\rightarrow \gamma K^{+} K^{-} \eta ')$$ B(J/ψ→γX(2120)→γK+K-η′) and $${\mathcal {B}}(J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2120)\rightarrow \gamma K_{S}^{0} K_{S}^{0} \eta ')$$ B(J/ψ→γX(2120)→γKS0KS0η′) are determined to be $$1.49\times 10^{-5}$$ 1.49×10-5 and $$6.38\times 10^{-6}$$ 6.38×10-6 at the 90% confidence level, respectively.

6. Impact of cytochrome P450 2D6 polymorphisms on decision-making and clinical outcomes in adjuvant hormonal therapy for breast cancer

Abstract: There are concerns that tamoxifen is less effective in Asian women because of the high prevalence of impaired function cytochrome P450 2D6 (To evaluate how knowledge ofEighty-two women were recruited. Seventy-eight completedMore than 70% of the women had an IM phenotype, 32% an extensive or ultra metabolizer phenotype, and 0% had a poor metabolizer phenotype. Regardless of genotype, more women opted for aromatase inhibitors. Overall, 80% of women completed 5 years of hormonal therapy. Five women developed recurrence, 3 contralateral breast cancer, 5 died, and 1 was diagnosed with a second primary cancer. Five-year recurrence-free and overall survival were slightly better in women with the extensive or ultra metabolizer phenotype compared to those with the IM phenotype, though not statistically significant [The IM phenotype was highly prevalent but was not associated with clinical outcome.

8. Neighborhood socioeconomic status and low‐value breast cancer care

Abstract: The objective of this study is to examine the association between neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES) and receipt of low-value breast cancer procedures.Patients with breast cancer diagnosed between 2010 and 2016 were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program. Low value procedures included: (1) axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) for patients with limited nodal disease receiving breast conservation therapy (BCT); (2) contralateral prophylactic mastectomies (CPM); and (3) sentinel lymph node biopsies (SLNB) in patients ≥70 years old with clinically node negative early-stage hormone-positive breast cancer. The cohort was divided by nSES. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis compared the groups.The study included 412 959 patients. Compared to patients in high nSES areas, residing in neighborhoods with low nSES (odd ratio [OR] 2.20, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.0-2.42) and middle nSES (OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.20-1.56) was associated with a higher probability of undergoing low value ALND. Conversely, patients in low SES neighborhoods were less likely to receive low value SLNB (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.85-0.94) or CPM than (low nSES OR 0.75, 95% CI 0.73-0.77); middle nSES OR 0.91 (0.89-0.92) those in high SES neighborhoods.In the SEER Program, low nSES was associated with a lower probability of low value procedures except for ALND utilization.

9. ANALYZING SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SHADOW AREA FROM ADS-40 HIGH RADIOMETRIC RESOLUTION AERIAL IMAGES

Abstract: The shadows in optical remote sensing images are regarded as image nuisances in numerous applications. The classification and interpretation of shadow area in a remote sensing image are a challenge, because of the reduction or total loss of spectral information in those areas. In recent years, airborne multispectral aerial image devices have been developed 12-bit or higher radiometric resolution data, including Leica ADS-40, Intergraph DMC. The increased radiometric resolution of digital imagery provides more radiometric details of potential use in classification or interpretation of land cover of shadow areas. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to analyze the spectral properties of the land cover in the shadow areas by ADS-40 high radiometric resolution aerial images, and to investigate the spectral and vegetation index differences between the various shadow and non-shadow land covers. According to research findings of spectral analysis of ADS-40 image: (i) The DN values in shadow area are much lower than in nonshadow area; (ii) DN values received from shadowed areas that will also be affected by different land cover, and it shows the possibility of land cover property retrieval as in nonshadow area; (iii) The DN values received from shadowed regions decrease in the visible band from short to long wavelengths due to scattering; (iv) The shadow area NIR of vegetation category also shows a strong reflection; (v) Generally, vegetation indexes (NDVI) still have utility to classify the vegetation and non-vegetation in shadow area. Abstract: Forest canopy structure is composed by the various species. Sun light is a main factor to affect the crown structures after tree competition. However, thinning operation is an appropriate way to control canopy density, which can adjust the competition conditions in the different crown structures. Recently, Airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), has been established as a standard technology for high precision three dimensional forest data acquisition; it could get stand characteristics with three-dimensional information that had develop potential for the structure characteristics of forest canopy. The 65 years old, different planting density of Cryptomeria japonica experiment area was selected for this study in Nanytou, Taiwan. Use the LiDAR image to estimate LiDAR characteristic values by constructed CHM, voxel-based LiDAR, mu0ltiple echoes, and assess the accuracy of stand characteristics with intensity values and field data. The competition index was calculated with field data, and estimate competition index of LiDAR via multiple linear regression. The results showed that the highest accuracy with stand characteristics was stand high which estimate by LiDAR, its average accuracy of 91.03%. LiDAR raster grid size was 20 m × 20 m for the correlation was the best, however, the higher canopy density will reduce the accuracy of the LiDAR characteristic values to estimate the stand characteristics. The significantly affect canopy thickness and the degree of competition in different planting distances.

Abstract: The primary purpose of this study was explored the variation of landscape process and its impact on the possibility of ecological corridors on Pingtung Linhousilin Forest Park. Developing the landscape change process in year 2002, 2005, 2012 and 2014 via the land-use definition of IPCC (forest land, cropland, grassland, wetlands, settlements and other land). In the landscape structure analysis, the cropland was gradually changed to forest land in this area. Moreover, the variation of gravity model showed that the interaction between Linhousilin Forest Park and low elevation mountains were gradually increased which means the function of ecological corridors has increased.

Abstract: Quarter-wave operation or a phase shift of more than π/2, which is approximately ten times greater than that reported in previous works using liquid crystals (LCs) and graphene electrodes, was demonstrated. The device is transparent to the terahertz (THz) wave, and the driving voltage required was as low as approximately 2.2 V (rms), which is also unprecedented. Experimental results supported a theoretical formalism adapted for LC cells with THz wavelength-scale thickness. The scattering rate, DC mobility, and carrier mean free path of bilayer graphene were also determined using THz spectroscopic techniques; the parameters were inferior to those of monolayer graphene. This observation can be attributed to the higher density of charged impurities in the bilayer graphene. The device performances of LC phase shifters using monolayer and bilayer graphene as electrodes were essentially identical.

Abstract: 2D metal-organic framework (MOF) film as the active layer show promising application prospects in various fields including sensors, catalysis, and electronic devices. However, exploring the application of 2D MOF film in the field of artificial synapses has not been implemented yet. In this work, we fabricated a novel 2D MOF film (Cu-THPP, THPP=5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphine), and further used it as an active layer to explore the application in the simulation of human brain synapses. It shows excellent light-stimulated synaptic plasticity properties, and exhibits the foundation function of synapses such as long-term plasticity (LTP), short-term plasticity (STP), and the conversion of STP to LTP. Most critically, the MOF based artificial synaptic device exhibits an excellent stability in atmosphere. This work opens the door for the application of 2D MOF film in the simulation of human brain synapses.

Abstract: Three debris-flow gullies, the Hong-Shui-Xian (HSX), Sha-Xin-Kai (SXK), and Xin-Kai-Dafo (XKD) gullies, located in the Shinfa area of southern Taiwan, were selected as case studies on the discharge of landslide-induced debris flows caused by Typhoon Morakot in 2009. The inundation characteristics of the three debris flows, such as the debris-flow volume V, deposition area Ad, and maximum flow depth, were collected by field investigations and simulated using the numerical modeling software FLO-2D. The discharge coefficient cb, defined as the ratio of the debris-flow discharge Qdp to the water-flow discharge Qwp, was proposed to determine Qdp, and Qwp was estimated by a rational equation. Then, cb was calibrated by a comparison between the field investigation and the numerical simulation of the inundation characteristics of debris flows. Our results showed that the values of cb range from 6 to 18, and their values are affected by the landslide ratio RL. Empirical relationships for cb versus RL, Qdp versus Qwp, Qdp versus V, and Ad versus V are also presented.

Abstract: This article presents a novel decoupling technique for the circularly polarized multiple-inputmultiple- output (CP-MIMO) system composed of Guoshaped patch antennas. A comparative study has been conducted on antenna performance as a function of packing distance before and after applying the technique. A prototype of two-element Guo-shaped patch MIMO at a small inter-element spacing of 12.5 mm has devised aiming for the 5G new radio n38 (2.57-2.62 GHz) applications. Simulation reinforced with experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed technique, whereas the two Guo-shaped patch elements packed in such small spacing can be operated independently. Both the envelope correlation coefficient and diversity gain are approaching their ideal values.

We examined the quality of post-discharge phone calls (PhA retrospective review was performed on patients who underwent Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass (RYGB) or sleeve gastrectomy (SG) in 2019. Patients were compared between presence of care coaching (Jan-June 2019) versus no care coaching (July-Dec 2019). Abstract: This paper reports the variation in rainfall characteristics associated with debris flows in the Chenyulan watershed, central Taiwan, between 1963 and 2009. The maximum hourly rainfall Im, the maximum 24 h rainfall Rd, and the rainfall index RI (defined as the product RdIm) were analysed for each rainfall event that triggered a debris flow within the watershed. The corresponding number of debris flows initiated by each rainfall event (N) was also investigated via image analysis and/or field investigation. The relationship between N and RI was analysed. Higher RI of a rainfall event would trigger a larger number of debris flows. This paper also discusses the effects of the Chi-Chi earthquake (CCE) on this relationship and on debris flow initiation. The results showed that the critical RI for debris flow initiation had significant variations and was significantly lower in the years immediately following the CCE of 1999, but appeared to revert to the pre-earthquake condition about five years later. Under the same extreme rainfall event of RI = 365 cm2 h−1, the value of N in the CCE-affected period could be six times larger than that in the non-CCE-affected periods.

Abstract: In 2004, graphene was successfully prepared by micromechanical exfoliation of graphite, which attracts wide attention in the scientific research community. After that, related research of two-dimensional (2D) materials has received continuous exploration. In particular, academia and industry have paid tremendous attention and high expectations on graphene, owing to its remarkable and tunable physical, electrical, optical, magnetic properties and its potential applications in various fields. These practical applications include high performance electronics and optoelectronics, such as field effect transistors, transparent and flexible electrodes, spintronic devices, solar cells and so on. However, as is well-known, the practical commercial applications are based on mature and repeatable preparation of materials. Great achievements have been made in developing synthesis techniques, including micromechanical exfoliation, epitaxial growth, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), chemical exfoliation, arc discharge, segregation growth and bottom-up synthesis and so on. Among these methods, CVD method is regarded as the most versatile platform to obtain high quality, large area, and controllable number of layers with good repeatability and low cost for real commercial applications. Up to now, the past decade has witnessed significant developments in the field of CVD graphene synthesis. Herein, we present the development of this field by firstly introducing the origin of graphene and the background of CVD method. Then, the main achievements in the development of graphene since 2008 are presented from the point of view of controllable preparation. The CVD synthesis of graphene is focused mainly on four aspects: the selection and modification of catalytic substrates, the manipulation of reaction conditions, bandgap engineering and clean transfer. The selection of catalytic substrate plays a critical role in the controllable preparation of graphene by CVD method. The representative catalytic mechanisms of different substrates for growing graphene are introduced, followed by various modifications of catalytic metal substrates. Besides, surface morphology and microstructure of substrates have a great impact on the quality and uniformity of as-grown graphene. Thus, due to the disadvantages of non-uniform surface energy, defects, wrinkles and impurities on the surface of solid metal, the introduction of liquid copper catalytic system helps to better control the nucleation uniformity and optimize the graphene growth. Moreover, the preparation of large-area monocrystalline metal foils for obtaining large-scale single-crystal graphene was also reviewed. In order to avoid the disadvantages such as the damage, wrinkle and polymer pollution of graphene associated with transfer process occurred in the cases of using metal substrates to grow graphene, direct synthesis of graphene on dielectric substrates is presented with focuses on two basic controls of nucleation density and growth rate. A series of techniques such as reaction medium regulation, substrate surface modification, and plasma-assisted growth, the introduction of gaseous metals and direct preparation of graphene on liquid glass are introduced. The development of graphene vertical and planar heterostructures with hexagonal boron nitride is also presented. Moreover, the disadvantage of graphene limits its application in logic circuits due to its zero bandgap without an acceptable on/off ratio, and three main ways to open graphene bandgap are discussed including doping, the preparation of a large area of AB stacking bilayer graphene and engineering graphene nanoribbons. After that, a brief introduction of transfer method used in graphene post-processing is given. Finally, we summarize the problems existing in the field, and the future opportunities and challenges are discussed.

Abstract: This study, based on different investigative documents and analytical methods, elucidates spatial distribution of habitats for major invasive exotic plants, Leucaena leucocephala, in Taiwan. Results show that Leucaena leucocephala is most harmful to broad-leaved trees and its invasion directly relates to changes in the physical environment. Leucaena leucocephala can bloom and bear fruits all year round and during the period of seeds sprouting and saplings, the invasion varies greatly among different soil types. Leucaena leucocephala prefers weakly acidic soil, though it grows well with other soil textures and nutrients as well. The average spreading rate of Leucaena leucocephala is 3.55 ha year−1 on abandoned farm land calculated from the aerial photographs taken in 1982, 1992, 2003, and 2007.

Abstract: This study analyzed the variability in the number of rainfall events related to debris-flow occurrence in the Chenyulan stream watershed located in central Taiwan. Rainfall data between 1970 and 2009 measured at three meteorological stations nearby/in the watershed were collected and used to determine the corresponding regional average rainfall for the watershed. Data on debris-flow events between 1985 and 2009 were collected and used to study their dependence on regional average rainfall. The maximum 24-h regional rainfall Rd was used to analyze the number of rainfall events Nr, the number of rainfall events that triggered debris flows Nd, and the probability of debris-flows occurrences P. The variation trends in Nr, Nd and P over recent decades under three rainfall conditions (Rd > 20, 230, and 580 mm) related to debris-flow occurrence were analyzed. In addition, the influences of the Chi-Chi earthquake on Nd and P were presented. The results showed that the rainfall events with Rd > 20 mm during the earthquake-affected period (2000–2004) strongly responded to the increases in the average number of rainfall events that triggered debris flows and the average probability of debris-flows occurrences. The number of rainfall events with Rd > 230 mm (the lower boundary for the rainfall ever triggering debris flow before the Chi-Chi earthquake), and Rd > 580 mm (the lower boundary for extreme rainfall ever triggering numerous debris flows) in the Chenyulan stream watershed increased after 2000. The increase in the number of extreme rainfall events with Rd > 580 mm augmented the number of rainfall events ever triggering numerous debris flows in the last decade. The increase in both the number of rainfall events that ever triggered debris flows and the probability of debris-flow occurrences was greater in the last decade (2000–2009) than in 1990–1999.

Abstract: 我國自 1996 年電信自由化以來，於電信市場上仍面臨新進業者無法與固網既有業者競爭的問題，關鍵即在於未有效落實接取網路（ access network）的無差別待遇規範，致使在現今固網及有線寬頻市場上仍缺乏有效競爭。由於接取網路必須投入高度的沉沒成本，以將網路連結至各終端用戶，因此不論在世界主要國家均認定其具有「樞紐設施」（ essential facility）性質，必須對其進行事前管制，以成本計價開放供其他電信事業接取使用，並防止其濫用因掌握此一設施所享有的市場支配地位。然而，對於接取網路的管制，世界主要國家電信監理機關的管制經驗顯示，若窮盡行為管制工具仍不足以改正既有業者的差別待遇行為時，則必須導入垂直分離此一結構管制工具。是以本文藉由美國AT&T 解體案、英國BT 功能分離及歐盟對於垂直分離規範，說明垂直分離所可能涉及的監理議題及相應規範內涵。最後再針對我國現行電信法應否及如何導入垂直分離，從比較法制經驗探討相關監理政策評估及應有配套規劃相關議題，期使我國電信市場進入深層的基礎建設競爭。 Fifteen years after the liberalization of telecom markets in Taiwan, newcomers still play no match for the former monopolist operator, especially when it comes to wireline-based services. Above all is deficient enforcement of the nondiscrimination rules on telecom access networks held responsible for this outcome. According to the experiences of telecom regulatory authorities in most OECD member states the access network is the “essential facility” and shall be to open access for competitive operators. The ex-ante regulations imposed on the incumbent operator, who owns the essential facility, aim to prevent the abuse of market power. The regulatory experiences on access networks further show that once behavior regulations alone help little to discourage the incumbent operator from discriminatory practices or cross-subsidization, the regulatory authorities shall have resort of some structural remedies such as vertical separation. In order to ascertain when and how vertical separation is engaged, the AT&T breakup case, the BT functional separation case and the vertical separation norms in EU Telecoms Reform are analyzed in this article. The principle of “competition drives investment”, which European Commission adapts for the NGA access, is referable for dealing with the CHT dominance in the access network in Taiwan. This article concludes that a thorough review of functionality of the Telecom Act regarding to introduce workable competition on the infrastructure level and amendments which incorporate vertical separation are recommended.

Abstract: Introduction There is a growing concern that certain public health restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could result in more violence against women (VAW). We sought to determine if the rates and types of VAW changed during the COVID-19 pandemic at our level 1 trauma center (L1TC). Methods We performed a retrospective review of female patients who presented to our L1TC because of violence from 2019 through 2020. Patients were grouped into a pre-COVID or COVID period. The primary aim of this study was to compare rates of VAW between groups. Secondary aims sought to evaluate for any difference in traumatic mechanism between periods and to determine if a temporal relationship existed between COVID-19 and VAW rates. Results There was no difference in rates of VAW between the pre-COVID and COVID period (3.1% vs 3.6%, P = .6); however, rates of penetrating trauma were greater during the COVID period (38.2% vs 10.3%, P = .01). After controlling for patient age and race, the odds of penetrating trauma increased during the pandemic (OR 5.8, 95% CI 1.6-28.5, P < .01). From February 2020 through October 2020, there was a direct relationship between rates of COVID-19 and VAW ( r2 .78, P < .01). Conclusion Rates of VAW were unchanged between the pre-COVID and COVID periods, yet the odds of penetrating VAW were 5 times greater during the pandemic. Moving forward, trauma surgeons must remain vigilant for signs of violence and ensure that support services are available during future crises.

Abstract: We present the Global Rapid Advanced Network Devoted to the Multi-messenger Addicts (GRANDMA). The network consists of 21 telescopes with both photometric and spectroscopic facilities. They are connected together thanks to a dedicated infrastructure. The network aims at coordinating the observations of large sky position estimates of transient events to enhance their follow-up and reduce the delay between the initial detection and optical confirmation. The GRANDMA programme mainly focuses on follow-up of gravitational-wave alerts to find and characterize the electromagnetic counterpart during the third observational campaign of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. But it allows for follow-up of any transient alerts involving neutrinos or gamma-ray bursts, even those with poor spatial localization. We present the different facilities, tools, and methods we developed for this network and show its efficiency using observations of LIGO/Virgo S190425z, a binary neutron star merger candidate.We furthermore report on allGRANDMAfollow-up observations performed during the first six months of the LIGO-Virgo observational campaign, and we derive constraints on the kilonova properties assuming that the events' locations were imaged by our telescopes. © 2019 The Author(s)., Parts of this research were conducted by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav), through project number CE170100004. Abstract: Film-induced festivals are becoming more popular, generated through accessibility of streaming platforms and acceptance for popular culture fandom. This is different than any general film festival, because there is a sense of community and desire for recreation among film-induced festival attendees, who are seeking a very specific feel and experience. This excitement can also spill over into the surrounding community, thus sparking interest with festival organizers and community hospitality and retail business owners. Knowing what experiences film-induced festival attendees are seeking can potentially increase visitation, facilitate positive word of mouth, and promote return intentions. This study explored The 2017 Dirty Dancing Festival at Lake Lure, NC, USA where social media posts were collected to understand how attendees experienced the festival. Informed by cocreation theory and a qualitative content analysis, seven themes related to the lived experiences of festival attendees were identified providing in-depth information on attendees' expectations of film-induced festivals. Their experiences related to recreating film scenes and scouting film locations helped to contribute evidence for how festival organizers can maximize cocreation through film-induced festivals using social media posts.

31. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Temperature Changes During Interstitial Microwave Heating: A Phantom Study

Abstract: Changes in magnetic resonance (MR) signals during interstitial microwave heating are reported, and correlated with simultaneously acquired temperature readings from three fiber-optic probes implanted in a polyacrylamide gel phantom. The heating by a MR-compatible microwave antenna did not interfere with simultaneous MR image data acquisition. MR phase-difference images were obtained using a fast two-dimensional-gradient echo sequence. From these images the temperature-sensitive resonant frequency of the1H nuclei was found to decrease approximately by 0.008 ppm/°C. The method and results presented here demonstrate that noninvasive MR-temperature imaging can be performed simultaneously with interstitial microwave thermal treatment.

Abstract: Background Mutations in certain genes are known to increase breast cancer risk. We study the relevance of rare protein-truncating variants (PTVs) that may result in loss-of-function in breast cancer susceptibility genes on tumor characteristics and survival in 8852 breast cancer patients of Asian descent. Methods Gene panel sequencing was performed for 34 known or suspected breast cancer predisposition genes, of which nine genes (ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, PALB2, BARD1, RAD51C, RAD51D, and TP53) were associated with breast cancer risk. Associations between PTV carriership in one or more genes and tumor characteristics were examined using multinomial logistic regression. Ten-year overall survival was estimated using Cox regression models in 6477 breast cancer patients after excluding older patients (≥75years) and stage 0 and IV disease. Results PTV9genes carriership (n = 690) was significantly associated (p < 0.001) with more aggressive tumor characteristics including high grade (poorly vs well-differentiated, odds ratio [95% confidence interval] 3.48 [2.35–5.17], moderately vs well-differentiated 2.33 [1.56–3.49]), as well as luminal B [HER−] and triple-negative subtypes (vs luminal A 2.15 [1.58–2.92] and 2.85 [2.17–3.73], respectively), adjusted for age at diagnosis, study, and ethnicity. Associations with grade and luminal B [HER2−] subtype remained significant after excluding BRCA1/2 carriers. PTV25genes carriership (n = 289, excluding carriers of the nine genes associated with breast cancer) was not associated with tumor characteristics. However, PTV25genes carriership, but not PTV9genes carriership, was suggested to be associated with worse 10-year overall survival (hazard ratio [CI] 1.63 [1.16–2.28]). Conclusions PTV9genes carriership is associated with more aggressive tumors. Variants in other genes might be associated with the survival of breast cancer patients. The finding that PTV carriership is not just associated with higher breast cancer risk, but also more severe and fatal forms of the disease, suggests that genetic testing has the potential to provide additional health information and help healthy individuals make screening decisions.

Abstract: Using data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, we search for the process $e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta_c\eta \pi^+\pi^-$. The search is performed using five large data sets recorded at center-of-mass energies of 4.23, 4.26, 4.36, 4.42, and 4.60 GeV. The $\eta_c$ meson is reconstructed in 16 exclusive decay modes. No signal is observed in the $\eta_c$ mass region at any center-of-mass energy. The upper limits on the reaction cross sections are determined to be 6.2, 10.8, 27.6, 22.6 and 23.7 pb at the 90% confidence level at the center-of-mass energies listed above.

Abstract: We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} decays to K_{S,L}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} using a sample of 2.93 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ_{3} with B decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the γ/ϕ_{3} measurement is expected to be between 0.7° and 1.2°, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements, based on the studies of the simulated data. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of γ/ϕ_{3} will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Furthermore, our results provide critical input for other flavor-physics investigations, including charm mixing, other measurements of CP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other D-decay modes.

Abstract: The decay ψ′→π+π−π0 is analyzed using a sample of 14 million ψ′ events taken with the BESII detector at the BEPC, and the branching fraction is measured to be B(ψ′→π+π−π0)=(18.1±1.8±1.9)×10−5. A partial wave analysis is carried out using the helicity amplitude method. ψ′→ρ(770)π is observed, and the branching fraction is measured to be B(ψ′→ρ(770)π)=(5.1±0.7±1.1)×10−5, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. A high mass enhancement with mass around 2.15 GeV/c2 is also observed. Attributing this enhancement to the ρ(2150) resonance, the branching fraction is measured to be B(ψ′→ρ(2150)π→π+π−π0)=(19.4±2.5−3.4+11.5)×10−5. The results will help in the understanding of the longstanding “ρπ puzzle” between J/ψ and ψ′ hadronic decays.
