We present three-dimensional (3D) maps of Jupiter's atmospheric circulation at cloud-top level from Doppler-imaging data obtained in the visible domain with JIVE, the second node of the JOVIAL network, which is mounted on the Dunn Solar Telescope at Sunspot, New Mexico. We report on 12 nights of observations between May 4 and May 30, 2018, representing a total of about 80 hours. Firstly, the average zonal wind profile derived from our data is compatible with that derived from cloud-tracking measurements performed on Hubble Space Telescope images obtained in April 2018 from the Outer Planet Atmospheres Legacy (OPAL) program. Secondly, we present the first ever two-dimensional maps of Jupiter's atmospheric circulation from Doppler measurements. The zonal velocity map highlights well-known atmospheric features, such as the equatorial hot spots and the Great Red Spot (GRS). In addition to zonal winds, we derive meridional and vertical velocity fields from the Doppler data. The motions attributed to vertical flows are mainly located at the boundary between the equatorial belts and tropical zones, which could indicate active motion in theses regions. Qualitatively, these results compare well to recent Juno data that have unveiled the three-dimensional structure of Jupiter's wind field. To the contrary, the motions attributed to meridional circulation are very different from what is obtained by cloud tracking, except at the GRS. Because of limitations with data resolution and processing techniques, we acknowledge that our measurement of vertical or meridional flows of Jupiter are still to be confirmed.

We present the discoveries of two giant planets orbiting the red giant branch (RGB) star HD 112570 and the red clump (RC) star HD 154391, based on the radial velocity (RV) measurements from Xinglong station and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). Spectroscopic and asteroseismic analyses suggest that HD 112570 has a mass of $1.15\pm0.12\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $9.85\pm0.23\,R_{\odot}$, a metallicity [Fe/H] of $-0.46\pm0.1$ and a ${\rm log}\,g$ of $2.47\pm0.1$. With the joint analysis of RV and Hipparcos-Gaia astrometry, we obtain a dynamical mass of $M_{\rm p}={3.42}_{-0.84}^{+1.4}\ M_{\rm Jup}$, a period of $P={2615}_{-77}^{+85}$ days and a moderate eccentricity of $e={0.20}_{-0.14}^{+0.16}$ for the Jovian planet HD 112570 b. For HD 154391, it has a mass of $2.07\pm0.03\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $8.56\pm0.05\,R_{\odot}$, a metallicity [Fe/H] of $0.07\pm0.1$ and a ${\rm log}\,g$ of $2.86\pm0.1$. The super-Jupiter HD 154391 b has a mass of $M_{\rm p}={9.1}_{-1.9}^{+2.8}\ M_{\rm Jup}$, a period of $P={5163}_{-57}^{+60}$ days and an eccentricity of $e={0.20}_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$. We found HD 154391 b has one of the longest orbital period among those ever discovered orbiting evolved stars, which may provide a valuable case in our understanding of planetary formation at wider orbits. Moreover, while a mass gap at $4\,M_{\rm Jup}$ seems to be present in the population of giant stars, there appears to be no significant differences in the distribution of metallicity among giant planets with masses above or below this threshold. In this study, we revisit 32 planetary systems around evolved stars observed within the framework of the Okayama Planet Search Program and its collaborative framework of the EAPS-Net to search for additional companions and investigate the properties of stars and giant planets in multiple-planet systems. With our latest radial velocities obtained from Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO), we confirm an additional giant planet in the wide orbit of 75 Cet system ($P_{\rm{c}} = 2051.62_{-40.47}^{+45.98}\ \rm{d}$, $M_{\rm{c}}\sin i=0.912_{-0.090}^{+0.088}\ M_{\rm{J}}$, and $a_{\rm{c}}=3.929_{-0.058}^{+0.052}\ \rm{au}$), along with five stars exhibiting long-term radial velocity accelerations, which indicates massive companions in the wide orbits. We have also found that the radial velocity variations of several planet-harboring stars may indicate additional planet candidates, stellar activities, or other understudied sources. These stars include $\epsilon$ Tau, 11 Com, 24 Boo, 41 Lyn, 14 And, HD 32518, and $\omega$ Ser. We further constrain the orbital configuration of the HD 5608, HD 14067, HD 120084, and HD 175679 systems by combining radial velocities with astrometry, as their host central stars exhibit significant astrometric accelerations. For other systems, we simply refine their orbital parameters. Moreover, our study indicates that the OPSP planet-harboring stars are more metal-poor compared to the currently known planet-harboring stars, and this is likely due to the $B-V$ color upper limit at 1.0 for star selection in the beginning of the survey. Finally, by investigating the less-massive giant planets ($< 5 M_{\rm{J}}$) around currently known planet-harboring evolved stars, we have found that metallicity positively correlates with the multiplicity and total planet mass of the system, which can be evidence for the core-accretion planet formation model., Comment: 49 figures, 4 tables, accepted by PASJ, RV data will be available online as supplementary after the publication

Japan Astrometry Satellite Mission for INfrared Exploration (JASMINE) is a planned M-class science space mission by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. JASMINE has two main science goals. One is the Galactic archaeology with Galactic Center Survey, which aims to reveal the Milky Way's central core structure and formation history from Gaia-level (~25 $\mu$as) astrometry in the Near-Infrared (NIR) Hw-band (1.0-1.6 $\mu$m). The other is the Exoplanet Survey, which aims to discover transiting Earth-like exoplanets in the habitable zone from NIR time-series photometry of M dwarfs when the Galactic center is not accessible. We introduce the mission, review many science objectives, and present the instrument concept. JASMINE will be the first dedicated NIR astrometry space mission and provide precise astrometric information of the stars in the Galactic center, taking advantage of the significantly lower extinction in the NIR. The precise astrometry is obtained by taking many short-exposure images. Hence, the JASMINE Galactic center survey data will be valuable for studies of exoplanet transits, asteroseismology, variable stars and microlensing studies, including discovery of (intermediate mass) black holes. We report the detection of a giant planet orbiting a G-type giant star HD 167768 from radial velocity measurements using HIgh Dispersion Echelle Spectrograph (HIDES) at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). HD 167768 has a mass of $1.08_{-0.12}^{+0.14} M_{\odot}$, a radius of $9.70_{-0.25}^{+0.25} R_{\odot}$, a metallicity of $\rm{[Fe/H]}=-0.67_{-0.08}^{+0.09}$, and a surface gravity of $\log g = 2.50_{-0.06}^{+0.06}$. The planet orbiting the star is a warm Jupiter, having a period of $20.6532_{-0.0032}^{+0.0032}\ \rm{d}$, a minimum mass of $0.85_{-0.11}^{+0.12}\ M_{\rm{J}}$, and an orbital semimajor axis of $0.1512_{-0.0063}^{+0.0058}\ \rm{au}$. The planet has one of the shortest orbital periods among those ever found around deeply evolved stars ($\log g < 3.5$) using radial velocity methods. The equilibrium temperature of the planet is $1874\ \rm{K}$, as high as a hot Jupiter. The radial velocities show two additional regular variations at $41\ \rm{d}$ and $95\ \rm{d}$, suggesting the possibility of outer companions in the system. Follow-up monitoring will enable validation of the periodicity. We report the discovery of a triple-giant-planet system around an evolved star HD 184010 (HR 7421, HIP 96016). This discovery is based on observations from Okayama Planet Search Program, a precise radial velocity survey, undertaken at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory between 2004 April and 2021 June. The star is K0 type and located at beginning of the red-giant branch. It has a mass of $1.35_{-0.21}^{+0.19} M_{\odot}$, a radius of $4.86_{-0.49}^{+0.55} R_{\odot}$, and a surface gravity $\log g$ of $3.18_{-0.07}^{+0.08}$. The planetary system is composed of three giant planets in a compact configuration: The planets have minimum masses of $M_{\rm{b}}\sin i = 0.31_{-0.04}^{+0.03} M_{\rm{J}}$, $M_{\rm{c}}\sin i = 0.30_{-0.05}^{+0.04} M_{\rm{J}}$, and $M_{\rm{d}}\sin i = 0.45_{-0.06}^{+0.04} M_{\rm{J}}$, and orbital periods of $P_{\rm{b}}=286.6_{-0.7}^{+2.4}\ \rm{d}$, $P_{\rm{c}}=484.3_{-3.5}^{+5.5}\ \rm{d}$, and $P_{\rm{d}}=836.4_{-8.4}^{+8.4}\ \rm{d}$, respectively, which are derived from a triple Keplerian orbital fit to three sets of radial velocity data. The ratio of orbital periods are close to $P_{\rm{d}}:P_{\rm{c}}:P_{\rm{b}} \sim 21:12:7$, which means the period ratios between neighboring planets are both lower than $2:1$. The dynamical stability analysis reveals that the planets should have near-circular orbits. The system could remain stable over 1 Gyr, initialized from co-planar orbits, low eccentricities ($e=0.05$), and planet masses equal to the minimum mass derived from the best-fit circular orbit fitting. Besides, the planets are not likely in mean motion resonance. HD 184010 system is unique: it is the first system discovered to have a highly evolved star ($\log g < 3.5$ cgs) and more than two giant planets all with intermediate orbital periods ($10^2\ \rm{d} < P < 10^3\ \rm{d}$)., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, Published in PASJ

We present ionized gas properties of 9 local ultra/luminous infrared galaxies (U/LIRGs) at $z <$ 0.04 through IFU observations with KOOLS-IFU on Seimei Telescope. The observed targets are drawn from the Great Observatories All-sky LIRG Survey (GOALS), covering a wide range of merger stages. We successfully detect emission lines such as H$\beta$, [OIII]$\lambda$5007, H$\alpha$, [NII]$\lambda\lambda$6549,6583, and [SII]$\lambda\lambda$6717,6731 with a spectral resolution of $R$ = 1500-2000, which provides (i) spatially-resolved ($\sim$200-700 pc) moment map of ionized gas and (ii) diagnostics for active galactic nucleus (AGN) within the central $\sim$3--11 kpc in diameter for our sample. We find that [OIII] outflow that is expected to be driven by AGN tends to be stronger (i) towards the galactic center and (ii) as a sequence of merger stage. In particular, the outflow strength in the late-stage (stage D) mergers is about 1.5 times stronger than that in the early-state (stage B) mergers, which indicates that galaxy mergers could induce AGN-driven outflow and play an important role in the co-evolution of galaxies and supermassive black holes., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, and 2 tables, accepted for publication in PASJ

We report the near-infrared radial-velocity (RV) discovery of a super-Earth planet on a 10.77-day orbit around the M4.5 dwarf Ross 508 ($J_\mathrm{mag}=9.1$). Using precision RVs from the Subaru Telescope IRD (InfraRed Doppler) instrument, we derive a semi-amplitude of $3.92^{+0.60}_{-0.58}$ ${\rm m\,s}^{-1}$, corresponding to a planet with a minimum mass $m \sin i = 4.00^{+0.53}_{-0.55}\ M_{\oplus}$. We find no evidence of significant signals at the detected period in spectroscopic stellar activity indicators or MEarth photometry. The planet, Ross 508 b, has a semimajor-axis of $0.05366^{+0.00056}_{-0.00049}$ au. This gives an orbit-averaged insolation of $\approx$1.4 times the Earth's value, placing Ross 508 b near the inner edge of its star's habitable zone. We have explored the possibility that the planet has a high eccentricity and its host is accompanied by an additional unconfirmed companion on a wide orbit. A near-infrared telescope with an effective aperture diameter of thirty millimeters has been developed. The primary objective of the development is to observe northern bright stars in the $J$, $H$, and $K_{\rm s}$ bands and provide accurate photometric data on those stars. The second objective is to repeatedly observe a belt-like region along the northern Galactic plane ($|b| \le 5^\circ$ and $\delta \ge -30^\circ$) to monitor bright variable stars there. The telescope has been in use since December 2016. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and operational performances of the telescope, photometric calibration methods, and our scientific goals. We show that the telescope has the ability to provide photometry with an uncertainty of less than 5\% for stars brighter than 7, 6.5, and 6~mag in the $J$, $H$, and $K_{\rm s}$ bands, respectively. The repeatability of the photometric measurements for the same star is better than 1\% for bright stars. Our observations will provide accurate photometry on bright stars that are lacking in the Two Micron Sky Survey and the Two Micron All-Sky Survey. We report the detection of radial velocity variations in nine evolved G- and K-type giant stars. The observations were conducted at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. Planets or planet candidates can best explain these regular variations. However, a coincidence of near 280-day variability among five of them prevents us from fully ruling out stellar origins for some of the variations, since all nine stars behave similarly in stellar properties. In the planet hypotheses to the RV variations, the planets (including one candidate) may survive close to the boundary of the so-called "planet desert" around evolved stars, having orbital periods between 255 and 555 days. Besides, they are the least-massive giant planets detected around G- and K-type giant stars, with minimum masses between 0.45$M_{\rm{J}}$ and 1.34$M_{\rm{J}}$. We further investigated other hypotheses for our detection, yet none of them can better explain regular RV variation. With our detection, it is convinced that year-long regular variation with amplitude down to 15 $\rm{m\ s^{-1}}$ for G- and K-type giant stars is detectable. Moreover, we performed simulations to further confirm the detectability of planets around these stars. Finally, we explored giant planets around intermediate-mass stars, and likewise found a 4 Jupiter mass gap (e.g. Santo et al. 2017), which is probably a boundary of the giant planet population., Comment: 59 pages, 32 figures, 12 tables, accepted for publication in PASJ, all RVs will be available online as supplementary after the publication

A compact green astro-comb with 43-GHz repetition rate is developed based on a Ti:Sapphire optical frequency comb (OFC) and a mode-selecting cavity. The OFC's large repetition rate of 1.6 GHz eases the requirements for the mode-selecting cavity. Unnecessary frequency-modes of the OFC are suppressed down to $5 \times 10^{-4}$ at 535 nm - 550 nm using a single mode-selecting cavity with 70-MHz linewidth. The radial velocity precision $\sigma \sim 1.4$ m/s is achieved at the High Dispersion Echelle Spectrosraph for the Okayama 188-cm telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan using our astro-comb. With further improvements of the mode-selecting cavity and removal of fiber modal noises, our system will provide a simple, compact, and precise astro-comb setup in visible wavelength region., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

Non-variable OH/IR stars are thought to have just left the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase. In this conventional picture, they must still show strong circumstellar extinction caused by the dust ejected during the AGB phase, and the extinction is expected to decrease over time because of the dispersal of the circumstellar dust after the cessation of the stellar mass loss. The reduction of the extinction makes the stars become apparently brighter and bluer with time especially in the near-infrared (NIR) range. We look for such long-term brightening of non-variable OH/IR stars by using 2MASS, UKIDSS, and OAOWFC survey data. As a result, we get multi-epoch NIR data taken over a 20-year period (1997-2017) for 6 of 16 non-variable OH/IR stars, and all six objects are found to be brightening. The K-band brightening rate of five objects ranges from 0.010 to 0.130 mag yr$^{-1}$, which is reasonably explained with the conventional picture. However, one OH/IR star, OH31.0-0.2, shows a rapid brightening, which cannot be explained only by the dispersal of the dust shell. Multi-color (J-, H-, and K-band) data are obtained for three objects, OH25.1-0.3, OH53.6-0.2, and OH77.9+0.2. Surprisingly, none of them appears to have become bluer, and OH53.6-0.2 is found to have been reddened with a rate of 0.013 mag yr$^{-1}$ in (J-K). We present the highest resolution single-dish submillimetre observations of the detached shell source U Antliae to date. The observations were obtained at $450~\micron$ and $850~\micron$ with SCUBA-2 instrument on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope as part of the Nearby Evolved Stars Survey. The emission at $850~\micron$ peaks at $40\arcsec$ with hints of a second peak seen at $\sim 20\arcsec$. The emission can be traced out to a radius of $56\arcsec$ at a $3\sigma$ level. The outer peak observed at $850~\micron$ aligns well with the peak observed at Herschel/PACS wavelengths. With the help of spectral energy distribution fitting and radiative transfer calculations of multiple-shell models for the circumstellar envelope, we explore the various shell structures and the variation of grain sizes along the in the circumstellar envelope. We determine a total shell dust mass of $(2.0 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-5}$ M$_{\odot}$ and established that the thermal pulse which gave rise to the detached shell occurred 3500 $\pm$ 500 years ago., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Observations of transient objects, such as short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources, require prompt spectroscopy. To carry out prompt spectroscopy, we developed an optical-fiber integral field unit (IFU) and connected it with an existing optical spectrograph KOOLS. KOOLS with IFU, hereafter KOOLS--IFU, was mounted on the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory 188-cm telescope. The fiber core and cladding diameters of the fiber bundle are 100 $\mu$m and 125 $\mu$m, respectively, and 127 fibers are hexagonally close-packed in the sleeve of the two-dimensional (2D) fiber array. We conducted test observations to measure the KOOLS--IFU performance and obtained the following conclusions: (1) the spatial sampling is 2''.34 $\pm$ 0''.05 per fiber, and the total field of view (FoV) is 30''.4 $\pm$ 0''.65 with 127 fibers; (2) the observable wavelength and the spectral resolving power of the grisms of KOOLS are 4030--7310 A and 400--600; 5020--8830 A and 600--900; 4160--6000 A and 1000--1200; and 6150--7930 A and 1800--2400, respectively; and (3) the estimated limiting magnitude is 18.2--18.7 AB mag during 30-min exposure under the optimal condition., Comment: 18 pages, 13 figures, and 7 tables. We performed a far-IR imaging survey of the circumstellar dust shells of 144 evolved stars as a mission programme of the AKARI infrared astronomical satellite using the Far-Infrared Surveyor (FIS) instrument. With this survey, we deliver far-IR surface brightness distributions of roughly 10' x 40' or 10' x 20' areas of the sky around the target evolved stars in the four FIS bands at 65, 90, 140, and 160 microns. Our objectives are to characterize the far-IR surface brightness distributions of the cold dust component in the circumstellar dust shells, from which we derive the amount of cold dust grains as low as 20 K and empirically establish the history of the early mass loss history. In this first installment of the series, we introduce the project and its aims, describe the observations, data reduction, and surface brightness correction process, and present the entire data set along with the results of integrated photometry measurements (i.e., the central source and circumstellar dust shell altogether). We find that (1) far-IR emission is detected from all but one object at the spatial resolution about 30" - 50" in the corresponding bands, (2) roughly 60 - 70 % of the target sources show some extension, (3) previously unresolved nearby objects in the far-IR are now resolved around 28 target sources, (4) the results of photometry measurements are reasonable with respect to the entries in the AKARI/FIS Bright Source Catalogue, despite the fact that the targets are assumed to be point-sources when catalogue flux densities were computed, and (5) an IR two-color diagram would place the target sources in a roughly linear distribution that may correlate with the age of the circumstellar dust shell and can potentially be used to identify which targets are more extended than others., Comment: To be published in PASJ AKARI Special Issue: 25 pages, 5 figures, 5 tables (and 28 supplementary figures available only in PASJ on-line)

We observed two proto-planetary nebulae, HD 56126 representing a source with an elliptical circumstellar shell and IRAS 16594-4656 representing a source with a bipolar circumstellar shell, with ALMA in the 12CO and 13CO J=3-2 lines and neighboring continuum to see how the morpho-kinematics of CO gas and dust emission properties in their circumstellar environments differ., Comment: 2 pages, 2 figures; contribution to Proceedings of IAU Symp 343

We report the detection of planets around two evolved giant stars from radial velocity measurements at Okayama Astrophysical observatory. 24 Boo (G3IV) has a mass of $0.99\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $10.64\,R_{\odot}$, and a metallicity of ${\rm [Fe/H]}=-0.77$. The star hosts one planet with a minimum mass of $0.91\,M_{\rm Jup}$ and an orbital period of $30.35{\rm d}$. The planet has one of the shortest orbital periods among those ever found around evolved stars by radial-veloocity methods. The stellar radial velocities show additional periodicity with $150{\rm d}$, which are probably attributed to stellar activity. The star is one of the lowest-metallicity stars orbited by planets currently known. $\gamma$ Lib (K0III) is also a metal-poor giant with a mass of $1.47\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $11.1\,R_{\odot}$, and ${\rm [Fe/H]}=-0.30$. The star hosts two planets with minimum masses of $1.02M_{\rm Jup}$ and $4.58\,M_{\rm Jup}$, and periods of $415{\rm d}$ and $964{\rm d}$, respectively. The star has the second lowest metallicity among the giant stars hosting more than two planets. Dynamical stability analysis for the $\gamma$ Lib system sets a minimum orbital inclination angle to be about $70^{\circ}$ and suggests that the planets are in 7:3 mean-motion resonance, though the current best-fitted orbits to the radial-velocity data are not totally regular., Comment: 29 pages, 19 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ

Aims. The purpose of this paper is to detect and investigate the nature of long-term radial velocity (RV) variations of K-type giants and to confirm planetary companions around the stars. Methods. We have conducted two planet search programs by precise RV measurement using the 1.8 m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) and the 1.88 m telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). The BOAO program searches for planets around 55 early K giants. The OAO program is looking for 190 G-K type giants. Results. In this paper, we report the detection of long-period RV variations of three K giant stars, HD 40956, HD 111591, and HD 113996. We investigated the cause of the observed RV variations and conclude the substellar companions are most likely the cause of the RV variations. The orbital analyses yield P = 578.6 $\pm$ 3.3 d, $m$ sin $i$ = 2.7 $\pm$ 0.6 $M_{\rm{J}}$, $a$ = 1.4 $\pm$ 0.1 AU for HD 40956; P = 1056.4 $\pm$ 14.3 d, $m$ sin $i$ = 4.4 $\pm$ 0.4 $M_{\rm{J}}$, $a$ = 2.5 $\pm$ 0.1 AU for HD 111591; P = 610.2 $\pm$ 3.8 d, $m$ sin $i$ = 6.3 $\pm$ 1.0 $M_{\rm{J}}$, $a$ = 1.6 $\pm$ 0.1 AU for HD 113996., Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures. We present near-IR spectroscopy of 22 luminous low-ionization broad absorption line quasars (LoBAL QSOs) at redshift 1.31 there is no clear difference in their optical emission line properties. We do not see particularly weak [OIII] or strong FeII emission. The LoBAL QSOs do not show a stronger prevalence of ionized gas outflows as traced by the [OIII] line, compared to normal QSOs of similar luminosity. We conclude that the optical-MIR properties of LoBAL QSOs are consistent with the general quasar population and do not support them to constitute a special phase of active galactic nucleus evolution., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present monitoring campaign observations at optical and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths for a radio-loud active galactic nucleus (AGN) at z=0.840, SDSS~J110006.07+442144.3 (hereafter, J1100+4421), which was identified during a flare phase in late February, 2014. The campaigns consist of three intensive observing runs from the discovery to March, 2015, mostly within the scheme of the OISTER collaboration. Optical-NIR light curves and simultaneous spectral energy distributions (SEDs) are obtained. Our measurements show the strongest brightening in March, 2015. We found that the optical-NIR SEDs of J1100+4421 show an almost steady shape despite the large and rapid intranight variability. This constant SED shape is confirmed to extend to $\sim5~\mu$m in the observed frame using the archival WISE data. Given the lack of absorption lines and the steep power-law spectrum of $\alpha_{\nu}\sim-1.4$, where $f_{\nu}\propto\nu^{\alpha_{\nu}}$, synchrotron radiation by a relativistic jet with no or small contributions from the host galaxy and the accretion disk seems most plausible as an optical-NIR emission mechanism. The steep optical-NIR spectral shape and the large amplitude of variability are consistent with this object being a low $\nu_{\rm{peak}}$ jet-dominated AGN. In addition, sub-arcsec resolution optical imaging data taken with Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam does not show a clear extended component and the spatial scales are significantly smaller than the large extensions detected at radio wavelengths. The optical spectrum of a possible faint companion galaxy does not show any emission lines at the same redshift and hence a merging hypothesis for this AGN-related activity is not supported by our observations., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables. We present a general surface brightness correction method for compact extended sources imaged in the slow-scan pointed observation mode of the Far-Infrared Surveyor (FIS) aboard the AKARI Infrared Astronomical Satellite. Our method recovers correct surface brightness distribution maps by re-scaling archived raw FIS maps using the surface-brightness-dependent inverse FIS response function. The flux of a target source is then automatically corrected for as the simple sum of surface brightnesses within the adopted contour encircling the perimeter of the target (i.e., contour photometry). This correction method is contrasted to the previous aperture photometry method for point sources, which directly corrects for the target flux with a flux-dependent scaling law. The new surface brightness correction scheme is applicable to objects of any shape from unresolved point sources to resolved extended objects, as long as the target is not deemed diffuse, i.e., the total extent of the target source does not exceed too much more than a single FIS scan width of 10 arcmin. The new correction method takes advantage of the well-defined shape (i.e., the scale invariance) of the point-spread function, which enables us to adopt a power-law FIS response function. We analyze the point-source photometric calibrator data using the FIS AKARI Slow-scan Tool (FAST) and constrained the parameters of the adopted power-law FIS response function. We conclude that the photometric accuracy of the new correction method is better than 10% error based on comparisons with the expected fluxes of the photometric calibrators and that resulting fluxes without the present correction method can lead up to 230% overestimates or down to 50% underestimates., Comment: accepted for publication in PASJ

We present extensively dense observations of the super-Chandrasekhar supernova (SC SN) candidate SN 2012dn from $-11$ to $+140$ days after the date of its $B$-band maximum in the optical and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths conducted through the OISTER ToO program. The NIR light curves and color evolutions up to 35 days after the $B$-band maximum provided an excellent match with those of another SC SN 2009dc, providing a further support to the nature of SN 2012dn as a SC SN. We found that SN 2012dn exhibited strong excesses in the NIR wavelengths from $30$ days after the $B$-band maximum. The $H$ and $K_{s}$-band light curves exhibited much later maximum dates at $40$ and $70$ days after the $B$-band maximum, respectively, compared with those of normal SNe Ia. The $H$ and $K_{s}$-band light curves subtracted by those of SN 2009dc displayed plateaued evolutions, indicating a NIR echo from the surrounding dust. The distance to the inner boundary of the dust shell is limited to be $4.8 - 6.4\times10^{-2}$ pc. No emission lines were found in its early phase spectrum, suggesting that the ejecta-CSM interaction could not occur. On the other hand, we found no signature that strongly supports the scenario of dust formation. The mass loss rate of the pre-explosion system is estimated to be $10^{-6}-10^{-5}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$, assuming that the wind velocity of the system is $10-100$ km~s$^{-1}$, which suggests that the progenitor of SN 2012dn could be a recurrent nova system. A radial velocity (RV) survey for intermediate-mass giants has been operated for over a decade at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). The OAO survey has revealed that some giants show long-term linear RV accelerations (RV trends), indicating the presence of outer companions. Direct imaging observations can help clarify what objects generate these RV trends. We present the results of high-contrast imaging observations or six intermediate-mass giants with long-term RV trends using the Subaru Telescope and HiCIAO camera. We detected co-moving companions to $\gamma$ Hya B ($0.61^{+0.12}_{-0.14} M_\odot$), HD 5608 B ($0.10 \pm 0.01 M_\odot$), and HD 109272 B ($0.28 \pm 0.06 M_\odot$). For the remaining targets($\iota$ Dra, 18 Del, and HD 14067) we exclude companions more massive than 30-60 $M_\mathrm{Jup}$ at projected separations of 1arcsec-7arcsec. We examine whether these directly imaged companions or unidentified long-period companions can account for the RV trends observed around the six giants. We report the detection of a double planetary system around the evolved intermediate-mass star HD 47366 from precise radial-velocity measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, Xinglong Station, and Australian Astronomical Observatory. The star is a K1 giant with a mass of 1.81+-0.13M_sun, a radius of 7.30+-0.33R_sun, and solar metallicity. The planetary system is composed of two giant planets with minimum mass of 1.75^{+0.20}_{-0.17}Mjup and 1.86^{+0.16}_{-0.15}Mjup, orbital period of 363.3^{+2.5}_{-2.4} d and 684.7^{+5.0}_{-4.9} d, and eccentricity of 0.089^{+0.079}_{-0.060} and 0.278^{+0.067}_{-0.094}, respectively, which are derived by a double Keplerian orbital fit to the radial-velocity data. The system adds to the population of multi-giant-planet systems with relatively small orbital separations, which are preferentially found around evolved intermediate-mass stars. Dynamical stability analysis for the system revealed, however, that the best-fit orbits are unstable in the case of a prograde configuration. The system could be stable if the planets were in 2:1 mean-motion resonance, but this is less likely considering the observed period ratio and eccentricity. A present possible scenario for the system is that both of the planets have nearly circular orbits, namely the eccentricity of the outer planet is less than ~0.15, which is just within 1.4sigma of the best-fit value, or the planets are in a mutually retrograde configuration with a mutual orbital inclination larger than 160 degree., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

The Multicolor Simultaneous Camera for studying Atmospheres of Transiting exoplanets (MuSCAT) is an optical three-band (g'_2-, r'_2-, and z_{s,2}-band) imager that was recently developed for the 188cm telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory with the aim of validating and characterizing transiting planets. In a pilot observation with MuSCAT we observed a primary transit of HAT-P-14b, a high-surface gravity (g_p=38 ms^{-2}) hot Jupiter around a bright (V=10) F-type star. From a 2.9 hr observation, we achieved the five-minute binned photometric precisions of 0.028%, 0.022%, and 0.024% in the g'_2, r'_2, and z_{s,2} bands, respectively, which provided the highest-quality photometric data for this planet. Combining these results with those of previous observations, we search for variations of transit timing and duration over five years as well as variations of planet-star radius ratio (R_p/R_s) with wavelengths, but can find no considerable variation in any parameters. On the other hand, using the transit-subtracted light curves we simulate achievable measurement error of R_p/R_s with MuSCAT for various planetary sizes, assuming three types of host stars: HAT-P-14, the nearby K dwarf HAT-P-11, and the nearby M dwarf GJ1214. Comparing our results with the expected atmospheric scale heights, we find that MuSCAT is capable of probing the atmospheres of planets as small as a sub-Jupiter (R_p ~6 R_Earth) around HAT-P-14 in all bands, a Neptune (~4R_Earth) around HAT-P-11 in all bands, and a super-Earth (~2.5R_Earth) around GJ1214 in r'_2 and z_{s,2} bands. K2-19 (EPIC201505350) is an interesting planetary system in which two transiting planets with radii ~ 7 $R_{Earth}$ (inner planet b) and ~ 4 $R_{Earth}$ (outer planet c) have orbits that are nearly in a 3:2 mean-motion resonance. Here, we present results of ground-based follow-up observations for the K2-19 planetary system. We have performed high-dispersion spectroscopy and high-contrast adaptive-optics imaging of the host star with the HDS and HiCIAO on the Subaru 8.2m telescope. We find that the host star is relatively old (>8 Gyr) late G-type star ($T_{eff}$ ~ 5350 K, $M_s$ ~ 0.9 $M_{Sun}$, and $R_{s}$ ~ 0.9 $R_{Sun}$). We do not find any contaminating faint objects near the host star which could be responsible for (or dilute) the transit signals. We have also conducted transit follow-up photometry for the inner planet with KeplerCam on the FLWO 1.2m telescope, TRAPPISTCAM on the TRAPPIST 0.6m telescope, and MuSCAT on the OAO 1.88m telescope. We confirm the presence of transit-timing variations, as previously reported by Armstrong and coworkers. We model the observed transit-timing variations of the inner planet using the synodic chopping formulae given by Deck & Agol (2015). We find two statistically indistinguishable solutions for which the period ratios ($P_{c}/P_{b}$) are located slightly above and below the exact 3:2 commensurability. Despite the degeneracy, we derive the orbital period of the inner planet $P_b$ ~ 7.921 days and the mass of the outer planet $M_c$ ~ 20 $M_{Earth}$. We report a development of a multi-color simultaneous camera for the 188cm telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory in Japan. The instrument, named MuSCAT, has a capability of 3-color simultaneous imaging in optical wavelength where CCDs are sensitive. MuSCAT is equipped with three 1024x1024 pixel CCDs, which can be controlled independently. The three CCDs detect lights in $g'_2$ (400--550 nm), $r'_2$ (550--700 nm), and $z_{s,2}$ (820--920 nm) bands using Astrodon Photometrics Generation 2 Sloan filters. The field of view of MuSCAT is 6.1x6.1 arcmin$^2$ with the pixel scale of 0.358 arcsec per pixel. The principal purpose of MuSCAT is to perform high precision multi-color transit photometry. For the purpose, MuSCAT has a capability of self autoguiding which enables to fix positions of stellar images within ~1 pix. We demonstrate relative photometric precisions of 0.101%, 0.074%, and 0.076% in $g'_2$, $r'_2$, and $z_{s,2}$ bands, respectively, for GJ436 (magnitudes in $g'$=11.81, $r'$=10.08, and $z'$=8.66) with 30 s exposures. We report observations of the Type Iax supernova (SN Iax) 2012Z at optical and near-infrared wavelengths from immediately after the explosion until $\sim$ $260$ days after the maximum luminosity using the Optical and Infrared Synergetic Telescopes for Education and Research (OISTER) Target-of-Opportunity (ToO) program and the Subaru telescope. We found that the near-infrared (NIR) light curve evolutions and color evolutions are similar to those of SNe Iax 2005hk and 2008ha. The NIR absolute magnitudes ($M_{J}\sim-18.1$ mag and $M_{H}\sim-18.3$ mag) and the rate of decline of the light curve ($\Delta$ $m_{15}$($B$)$=1.6 \pm 0.1$ mag) are very similar to those of SN 2005hk ($M_{J}\sim-17.7$ mag, $M_{H}\sim$$-18.0$ mag, and $\Delta$ $m_{15}$($B$)$\sim1.6$ mag), yet differ significantly from SNe 2008ha and 2010ae ($M_{J}\sim-14 - -15$ mag and $\Delta$ $m_{15}$($B$)$\sim2.4-2.7$ mag). The estimated rise time is $12.0 \pm 3.0$ days, which is significantly shorter than that of SN 2005hk or any other Ia SNe. The rapid rise indicates that the $^{56}$Ni distribution may extend into the outer layer or that the effective opacity may be lower than that in normal SNe Ia. The late-phase spectrum exhibits broader emission lines than those of SN 2005hk by a factor of 6--8. Such high velocities of the emission lines indicate that the density profile of the inner ejecta extends more than that of SN 2005hk. We report detections of new exoplanets from a radial velocity (RV) survey of metal-rich FGK stars by using three telescopes. By optimizing our RV analysis method to long time-baseline observations, we have succeeded in detecting five new Jovian-planets around three metal-rich stars HD 1605, HD 1666, and HD 67087 with the masses of $1.3 M_{\odot}$, $1.5 M_{\odot}$, and $1.4 M_{\odot}$, respectively. A K1 subgiant star HD 1605 hosts two planetary companions with the minimum masses of $ M_p \sin i = 0.96 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ and $3.5 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in circular orbits with the planets' periods $P = 577.9$ days and $2111$ days, respectively. HD 1605 shows a significant linear trend in RVs. Such a system consisting of Jovian planets in circular orbits has rarely been found and thus HD 1605 should be an important example of a multi-planetary system that is likely unperturbed by planet-planet interactions. HD 1666 is a F7 main sequence star which hosts an eccentric and massive planet of $ M_p \sin i = 6.4 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in the orbit with $a_{\rm p} = 0.94$ AU and an eccentricity $e=0.63$. Such an eccentric and massive planet can be explained as a result of planet-planet interactions among Jovian planets. While we have found the large residuals of $\mathrm{rms} = 35.6\ \mathrm{m\ s^{-1}}$, the periodogram analysis does not support any additional periodicities. Finally, HD 67087 hosts two planets of $ M_p \sin i = 3.1 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ and $4.9 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in orbits with $P=352.2$ days and $2374$ days, and $e=0.17$ and $0.76$, respectively. Although the current RVs do not lead to accurate determinations of its orbit and mass, HD 67087 c can be one of the most eccentric planets ever discovered in multiple systems., Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present results of near-infrared photometric and spectroscopic observations of mid-infrared (MIR) sources that dramatically brightened. Using IRAS, AKARI, and WISE point source catalogs, we found that 4 sources (IRAS 19574+491, V2494 Cyg, IRAS 22343+7501, and V583 Cas) significantly brightened at MIR wavelengths over the 20-30 years of difference in observing times. Little is known about these sources except V2494 Cyg, which is considered a FU Orionis star. Our observation clearly resolves IRAS 22343+7501 into 4 stars (2MASS J22352345+7517076, 2MASS J22352442+7517037, [RD95] C, and 2MASS J22352497+7517113) and first JHKs photometric data for all 4 sources are obtained. Two of these stars (2MASS J22352442+7517037 and 2MASS J22352497+7517113) are known as T Tau stars. Our spectroscopic observation reveals that IRAS 19574+9441 is an M-type evolved star and V583 Cas is a carbon star. 2MASS J22352345+7517076 is probably a YSO, judging from our observation that it has featureless near-infrared (NIR) spectrum and also showed dramatic brightening in NIR (about 4 magnitudes in Ks-band). We report the detection of a substellar companion orbiting an evolved intermediate-mass ($M_\star=2.4\,M_\odot$) star HD 14067 (G9 III) using precise Doppler technique. Radial velocities of this star can be well fitted either by a periodic Keplerian variation with a decreasing linear velocity trend (P=1455 days, $K_1=92.2$ m s$^{-1}$, $e=0.533$, and $\dot{\gamma}=-22.4$ m s$^{-1}$ yr$^{-1}$) or a single Keplerian orbit without linear trend (P=2850 days, $K_1=100.1$ m s$^{-1}$, and $e=0.697$). The minimum mass ($m_2\sin{i}=7.8\,M_{\rm J}$ for the model with a linear trend, or $m_2\sin{i}=9.0\,M_{\rm J}$ for the model without a linear trend) suggests a long-period giant planet around an evolved intermediate-mass star. WASP-80b is a warm Jupiter transiting a bright late-K/early-M dwarf, providing a good opportunity to extend the atmospheric study of hot Jupiters toward the lower temperature regime. We report multi-band, multi-epoch transit observations of WASP-80b by using three ground-based telescopes covering from optical (g', Rc, and Ic bands) to near-infrared (NIR; J, H, and Ks bands) wavelengths. We observe 5 primary transits, each of which in 3 or 4 different bands simultaneously, obtaining 17 independent transit light curves. Combining them with results from previous works, we find that the observed transmission spectrum is largely consistent with both a solar abundance and thick cloud atmospheric models at 1.7$\sigma$ discrepancy level. On the other hand, we find a marginal spectral rise in optical region compared to the NIR region at 2.9$\sigma$ level, which possibly indicates the existence of haze in the atmosphere. We simulate theoretical transmission spectra for a solar abundance but hazy atmosphere, finding that a model with equilibrium temperature of 600 K can explain the observed data well, having a discrepancy level of 1.0$\sigma$. We also search for transit timing variations, but find no timing excess larger than 50 s from a linear ephemeris. In addition, we conduct 43 day long photometric monitoring of the host star in the optical bands, finding no significant variation in the stellar brightness. Combined with the fact that no spot-crossing event is observed in the five transits, our results confirm previous findings that the host star appears quiet for spot activities, despite the indications of strong chromospheric activities., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, a version adapted for publication in ApJ

We present results of optical polarimetric and multi-band photometric observations for gamma-ray loud narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy 1H 0323+342. This object has been monitored by 1.5 m Kanata telescope since 2012 September but following a gamma-ray flux enhancement detected by Fermi-LAT on MJD 56483 (2013 July 10) dense follow-up was performed by ten 0.5-2.0 m telescopes in Japan over one week. The 2-year R_C-band light curve showed clear brightening corresponding to the gamma-ray flux increase and then decayed gradually. The high state as a whole lasted for ~20 days, during which we clearly detected optical polarization from this object. The polarization degree (PD) of the source increased from 0-1% in quiescence to ~3% at maximum and then declined to the quiescent level, with the duration of the enhancement of less than 10 days. The moderate PD around the peak allowed us to precisely measure the daily polarization angle (PA). As a result, we found that the daily PAs were almost constant and aligned to the jet axis, suggesting that the magnetic field direction at the emission region is transverse to the jet. This implies either a presence of helical/toroidal magnetic field or transverse magnetic field compressed by shock(s). We also found small-amplitude intra-night variability during the 2-hour continuous exposure on a single night. We discuss these findings based on the turbulent multi-zone model recently advocated by Marscher (2014). Optical to ultraviolet (UV) spectrum showed a rising shape in the higher frequency and the UV magnitude measured by Swift/UVOT was steady even during the flaring state, suggesting that thermal emission from accretion disk is dominant in that band., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. We report on simultaneous $g'$, $R_{\rm c}$ and $I_{\rm c}$ photometry of SU Ursae Majoris during 2011 December - 2012 February using OAO/MITSuME. Our photometry revealed that quiescence is divided into three types based on the magnitude and color. Quiescent light curves showed complicated profiles with various amplitudes and time scales. Although no superoutbursts were observed during our run, five normal outbursts occurred with intervals of 11 - 21 d. The shapes of the normal outbursts were characteristic of the outside-in type. During the rising phase of a normal outburst, the light curve showed periodic modulations with a period of ${\sim}$ 0.048111(354) d, but the origin of this peirod was unclear. We examined daily averaged color-color diagram and found that two cycles exist. This implies that the thermal limit cycle in SU UMa is complicated. We newly discovered that $g'-R_{\rm c}$ becomes red about 3 days prior to an outburst. Although the working mechanism on this reddening is unclear, we propose two possibilities: one is that the inner portion of the accretion disk is filled by matter and obscures the central white dwarf, and the other is that the stagnation effect works in the outer region of the accretion disk., Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures, PASJ in press

We present 5 new transit light curves of GJ 1214b taken in BJHKs-bands. Two transits were observed in B-band using the Suprime-Cam and the FOCAS instruments onboard the Subaru 8.2m telescope, and one transit was done in JHKs-bands simultaneously with the SIRIUS camera on the IRSF 1.4m telescope. MCMC analyses show that the planet-to-star radius ratios are, Rp/Rs = 0.11651 \pm 0.00065 (B-band, Subaru/Suprime-Cam), Rp/Rs = 0.11601 \pm 0.00117 (B-band, Subaru/FOCAS), Rp/Rs = 0.11654 \pm 0.00080 (J-band, IRSF/SIRIUS), Rp/Rs = 0.11550 ^{+0.00142}_{-0.00153} (H-band, IRSF/SIRIUS), and Rp/Rs = 0.11547 \pm 0.00127 (Ks-band, IRSF/SIRIUS). The Subaru Suprime-Cam transit photometry shows a possible spot-crossing feature. Comparisons of the new transit depths and those from previous studies with the theoretical models by Howe & Burrows (2012) suggest that the high molecular weight atmosphere (e.g., 1% H$_2$O + 99% N$_2$) models are most likely, however, the low molecular weight (hydrogen dominated) atmospheres with extensive clouds are still not excluded. We also report a long-term monitoring of the stellar brightness variability of GJ 1214 observed with the MITSuME 50cm telescope in g'-, Rc-, and Ic-bands simultaneously. The monitoring was conducted for 32 nights spanning 78 nights in 2012, and we find a periodic brightness variation with a period of Ps = 44.3 \pm 1.2 days and semi-amplitudes of 2.1% \pm 0.4% in g'-band, 0.56% \pm 0.08% in Rc-band, and 0.32% \pm 0.04% in Ic-band., Comment: 26 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables, ApJ accepted

We report the detections of planetary companions orbiting around three evolved intermediate-mass stars from precise radial velocity measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. HD 2952 (K0III, 2.5 M_sun) and omega Ser (G8III, 2.2 M_sun) host a relatively low mass planet with minimum mass of m_2sin i=1.6 M_J and 1.7 M_J in nearly circular orbits with period of P=312 and 277 d, respectively. HD 120084 (G7 III, 2.4 M_sun) hosts an eccentric planet with m_2sin i=4.5 M_J in an orbit with P=2082 d and eccentricity of e=0.66. The planet has one of the largest eccentricities among those ever discovered around evolved intermediate-mass stars, almost all of which have eccentricity smaller than 0.4. We also show that radial velocity variations of stellar oscillations for G giants can be averaged out below a level of a few m/s at least in timescale of a week by high cadence observations, which enables us to detect a super-Earth and a Neptune-mass planet in short-period orbits even around such giant stars., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ, stellar name corrected (not omicron Ser but omega Ser)

CTA 102, classified as a flat spectrum radio quasar at z=1.037, produced exceptionally bright optical flare in 2012 September. Following Fermi-LAT detection of enhanced gamma-ray activity, we densely monitored this source in the optical and near-infrared bands for the subsequent ten nights using twelve telescopes in Japan and South-Africa. On MJD 56197 (2012 September 27, 4-5 days after the peak of bright gamma-ray flare), polarized flux showed a transient increase, while total flux and polarization angle remained almost constant during the "orphan polarized-flux flare". We also detected an intra-night and prominent flare on MJD 56202. The total and polarized fluxes showed quite similar temporal variations, but PA again remained constant during the flare. Interestingly, the polarization angles during the two flares were significantly different from the jet direction. Emergence of a new emission component with high polarization degree (PD) up to 40% would be responsible for the observed two flares, and such a high PD indicates a presence of highly ordered magnetic field at the emission site. We present optical (g', R_c, and I_c) to near-infrared (J) simultaneous photometric observations for a primary transit of GJ3470b, a Uranus-mass transiting planet around a nearby M dwarf, by using the 50-cm MITSuME telescope and the 188-cm telescope, both at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. From these data, we derive the planetary mass, radius, and density as 14.1 \pm 1.3 M_earth, 4.32^{+0.21}_{-0.10} R_earth, and 0.94 \pm 0.12 g cm^{-3}, respectively, thus confirming the low density that was reported by Demory et al. based on the Spitzer/IRAC 4.5-micron photometry (0.72^{+0.13}_{-0.12} g cm^{-3}). Although the planetary radius is about 10% smaller than that reported by Demory et al., this difference does not alter their conclusion that the planet possesses a hydrogen-rich envelope whose mass is approximately 10% of the planetary total mass. On the other hand, we find that the planet-to-star radius ratio (R_p/R_s) in the J band (0.07577^{+0.00072}_{-0.00075}) is smaller than that in the I_c (0.0802 \pm 0.0013) and 4.5-micron (0.07806^{+0.00052}_{-0.00054}) bands by 5.9% \pm 2.0% and 3.0% \pm 1.2%, respectively. A plausible explanation for the differences is that the planetary atmospheric opacity varies with wavelength due to absorption and/or scattering by atmospheric molecules. Although the significance of the observed R_p/R_s variations is low, if confirmed, this fact would suggest that GJ3470b does not have a thick cloud layer in the atmosphere. We report the detection of a double planetary system orbiting around the evolved intermediate-mass star HD 4732 from precise Doppler measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) and Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO). The star is a K0 subgiant with a mass of 1.7 M_sun and solar metallicity. The planetary system is composed of two giant planets with minimum mass of msini=2.4 M_J, orbital period of 360.2 d and 2732 d, and eccentricity of 0.13 and 0.23, respectively. We report on time-resolved photometry during a 2012 January normaloutburst of SU UMa. The light curve shows hump-like modulations with a period of 0.07903(11) d, which coincides with the known superhump period of SU UMa during superoutbursts. We interpret this as superhump, based on the observed periodicity, profiles of the averaged light curve, and the $g'-I_{\rm c}$ variation during the normal outburst. This is the first case that superhumps are detected during an isolated normal outburst of SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We report the detections of substellar companions orbiting around seven evolved intermediate-mass stars from precise Doppler measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. o UMa (G4 II-III) is a giant with a mass of 3.1 M_sun and hosts a planet with minimum mass of m_2sini=4.1 M_J in an orbit with a period P=1630 d and an eccentricity e=0.13. This is the first planet candidate (< 13 M_J) ever discovered around stars more massive than 3 M_sun. o CrB (K0 III) is a 2.1 M_sun giant and has a planet of m_2sini=1.5 M_J in a 187.8 d orbit with e=0.19. This is one of the least massive planets ever discovered around ~2 M_sun stars. HD 5608 (K0 IV) is an 1.6 M_sun subgiant hosting a planet of m_2sini=1.4 M_J in a 793 d orbit with e=0.19. The star also exhibits a linear velocity trend suggesting the existence of an outer, more massive companion. 75 Cet (G3 III:) is a 2.5 M_sun giant hosting a planet of m_2sini=3.0 M_J in a 692 d orbit with e=0.12. The star also shows possible additional periodicity of about 200 d and 1880 d with velocity amplitude of ~7--10 m/s, although these are not significant at this stage. nu Oph (K0 III) is a 3.0 M_sun giant and has two brown-dwarf companions of m_2sini= 24 M_J and 27 M_J, in orbits with P=530.3 d and 3190 d, and e=0.126 and 0.17, respectively, which were independently announced by Quirrenbach et al. (2011). The ratio of the periods is close to 1:6, suggesting that the companions are in mean motion resonance. We also independently confirmed planets around k CrB (K0 III-IV) and HD 210702 (K1 IV), which had been announced by Johnson et al. (2008) and Johnson et al. (2007a), respectively. A precise radial velocity survey conducted by a Korean-Japanese planet search program revealed a planetary companion around the intermediate-mass clump giant HD 100655. The radial velocity of the star exhibits a periodic Keplerian variation with a period, semi-amplitude and eccentricity of 157.57 d, 35.2 m s^-1 and 0.085, respectively. Adopting an estimated stellar mass of 2.4 M_Sun, we confirmed the presence of a planetary companion with a semi-major axis of 0.76 AU and a minimum mass of 1.7 M_Jup. We report the discovery of a substellar companion around the intermediatemass giant HD 175679. Precise radial velocity data of the star from Xinglong Station and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) revealed a Keplerian velocity variation with an orbital period of 1366.8 \pm 5.7 days, a semiamplitude of 380.2 \pm 3.2m s.1, and an eccentricity of 0.378 \pm 0.008. Adopting a stellar mass of 2.7 \pm 0.3 M\odot, we obtain the minimum mass of the HD 175679 b is 37.3 \pm 2.8 MJ, and the semimajor axis is 3.36 \pm 0.12 AU. We report mid-infrared (MIR) imaging observations of the carbon star U Ant made with the Infrared Camera (IRC) on board AKARI. Subtraction of the artifacts and extended PSF of the central star reveals the detached dust shell around the carbon star at MIR wavelengths (15 and 24{\mu}m) for the first time. The observed radial brightness profiles of the MIR emission are well explained by two shells at 43" and 50" from the central star detected in optical scattered light observations. Combining Herschel/PACS, AKARI/FIS, and AKARI/IRC data, we obtain the infrared spectral energy distribution (SED) of the thermal emission from the detached shell of U Ant in a wide infrared spectral range of 15- 160 {\mu}m. Thermal emission of amorphous carbon grains with a single temperature cannot account for the observed SED from 15 to 160 {\mu}m: it underestimates the emission at 15 {\mu}m. Alternatively, the observed SED is fitted by the model that amorphous carbon grains in the two shells have different temperatures of 60 and 104 K, which allocates most dust mass in the shell at 50". This supports previous suggestion that the 43" shell is gas-rich and the 50" one is dust-rich. We suggest a possibility that the segregation of the gas and dust resulting from the drift motion of submicron-sized dust grains relative to the gas and that the hot dust component associated with the gas-rich shell is composed of very small grains that are strongly coupled with the gas., Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in ApJL

A Korean-Japanese planet search program has been carried out using the 1.8m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) in Korea, and the 1.88m telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) in Japan to search for planets around intermediate-mass giant stars. The program aims to show the properties of planetary systems around such stars by precise Doppler survey of about 190 G or K type giants together with collaborative surveys of the East-Asian Planet Search Network. So far, we detected two substellar companions around massive intermediate-mass giants in the Korean-Japanese planet search program. One is a brown dwarf-mass companion with 37.6 $M_{\mathrm{J}}$ orbiting a giant HD 119445 with 3.9 $M_{\odot}$, which is the most massive brown dwarf companion among those found around intermediate-mass giants. The other is a planetary companion with 1.8 $M_{\mathrm{J}}$ orbiting a giant star with 2.4 $M_{\odot}$, which is the lowest-mass planetary companion among those detected around giant stars with $>$ 1.9 $M_{\odot}$. Plotting these systems on companion mass vs. stellar mass diagram, there seem to exist two unpopulated regions of substellar companions around giants with 1.5--3 $M_{\odot}$ and planetary companions orbiting giants with 2.4--4 $M_{\odot}$. We have estimated elemental abundances of the planetary nebula (PN) Hen2-436 in the Sagittarius (Sgr) spheroidal dwarf galaxy using ESO/VLT FORS2, Magellan/MMIRS, and Spitzer/IRS spectra. We have detected candidates of [F II] 4790A, [Kr III] 6826A, and [P II] 7875A lines and successfully estimated the abundances of these elements ([F/H]=+1.23, [Kr/H]=+0.26, [P/H]=+0.26) for the first time. We present a relation between C, F, P, and Kr abundances among PNe and C-rich stars. The detections of F and Kr support the idea that F and Kr together with C are synthesized in the same layer and brought to the surface by the third dredge-up. We have estimated the N^2+ and O^2+ abundances using optical recombination lines (ORLs) and collisionally excited lines (CELs). The discrepancy between the abundance derived from the O ORL and that derived from the O CEL is >1 dex. To investigate the status of the central star of the PN, nebula condition, and dust properties, we construct a theoretical SED model with CLOUDY. By comparing the derived luminosity and temperature of the central star with theoretical evolutionary tracks, we conclude that the initial mass of the progenitor is likely to be ~1.5-2.0 Msun and the age is ~3000 yr after the AGB phase. The observed elemental abundances can be explained by a theoretical nucleosynthesis model with a star of initial mass 2.25 Msun, Z=0.008 and LMC compositions. We have estimated the dust mass to be 2.9x10^-4 Msun (amorphous carbon only) or 4.0x10^-4 Msun (amorphous carbon and PAH). Based on the assumption that most of the observed dust is formed during the last two thermal pulses and the dust-to-gas mass ratio is 5.58x10^-3, the dust mass-loss rate and the total mass-loss rate are <3.1x10^-8 Msun / yr and <5.5x10^-6 Msun / yr, respectively. We report the detections of two substellar companions orbiting around evolved intermediate-mass stars from precise Doppler measurements at Subaru Telescope and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. HD 145457 is a K0 giant with a mass of 1.9 M_sun and has a planet of minimum mass m_2sini=2.9 M_J orbiting with period of P=176 d and eccentricity of e=0.11. HD 180314 is also a K0 giant with 2.6 M_sun and hosts a substellar companion of m_2sin i=22 M_J, which falls in brown-dwarf mass regime, in an orbit with P=396 d and e=0.26. We detected a brown dwarf-mass companion around the intermediate-mass giant star HD 119445 (G6III) using the Doppler technique. This discovery is the first result from a Korean-Japanese planet search program based on precise radial velocity measurements. The radial velocity of this star exhibits a periodic Keplerian variation with a period, semi-amplitude and eccentricity of 410.2 days, 413.5 m/s and 0.082, respectively. Adopting a stellar mass of 3.9 M_solar, we were able to confirm the presence of a massive substellar companion with a semimajor axis of 1.71 AU and a minimum mass of 37.6 M_Jup, which falls in the middle of the brown dwarf-mass region. This substellar companion is the most massive ever discovered within 3 AU of a central intermediate-mass star. The host star also ranks among the most massive stars with substellar companions ever detected by the Doppler technique.
