Background/Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of glass ceramic inlay system using 2 antibacterial adhesive luting protocols with 2 cementation techniques to bur-cut dentin.

Background/Aim: The purpose of this in-vitro study was to compare the resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPD) fabricated using two different structural designs and two different antibacterial adhesive lutting protocols in regard to their resistance to debonding.

In the present article, a modification of Jakimovski-Leviatan operators is presented which reproduce constant and e–x functions. We prove uniform convergence order of a quantitative estimate for the modified operators. We also give a quantitative Voronovskya type theorem.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship of borderline personality features (BPFs) with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms among male patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and to evaluate the impact of emotion dysregulation on this relationship. We also wanted to control the effects of depression and state anxiety. METHOD: Participants included 305 treatment-seeking male patients with SUD. Participants were evaluated by applying the Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI), the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS), the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). RESULTS: Age, duration of education, marital status, employment status, age at first and age at regular substance use did not differ between those with probable borderline personality disorder (BPD) (n = 155, 50.8%) and those without probable BPD (n = 150, 49.2%). Probable ADHD risk was 3.5 times higher among those with probable BPD. Also ADHD, DERS, depression and anxiety scores were higher in this group with probable BPD. Scale scores were mild and moderately correlated with each other. In hierarchical regression analysis severity of ADHD symptoms (particularly hyperactivity/impulsivity [HI] dimension), together with difficulties in emotion regulation (particularly impulse control difficulties), depression and trait anxiety predicted the severity of BPFs. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the severity of HI symptoms of ADHD is related with the BPFs, while difficulties in emotion regulation, particularly impulse control difficulties, partially mediate this relationship among patients with SUD.

OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship of probable attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with novelty seeking (NS), the severity of psychopathology and borderline personality disorder (BPD) in a sample of male patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). METHODS Participants included 229 patients with OUD. Participants were evaluated with the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1), the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and NS subscale of the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). In addition, BPD was assessed with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R-Personality Disorders (SCID-II). RESULTS Age, duration of education, marital and employment status did not differ between those with probable ADHD (n = 54, 23.1%) and those without (n = 175, 76.9%). The severity of psychopathology, NS and subdimensions (other than NS1, which was lower) were higher among those with the probable ADHD. ADHD scores were midly correlated with NS scores, other than NS1. In logistic regression analyses, the severity of NS, particularly Impulsiveness (NS2), together with general psychopathology, predicted probable ADHD, whereas the presence of BPD had no effect. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest that trait impulsivity, together with the severity of psychopathology, is related with the probable ADHD, while the presence of BPD has no effect among adult patients with OUD.

The Central Anatolian Plateau with its volcanic provinces represents a broad transition zone between the compressional deformation in the east and the extensional regime in the west. The Central Anatolian Fault Zone separates the Kırşehir Block in the north and the Anatolide–Tauride Block in the south within the plateau. A proper understanding of physical properties such as seismic attenuation in the crustal volume of this region can provide hints toward the possible source for the geodynamic events in the past and present that likely lead to the observed deformation. In order to model intrinsic and scattering attenuation separately, we perform a nonempirical coda-wave modeling approach in which a fitting process between observed and synthetic coda-wave envelopes is performed for each earthquake in multiple frequency bands. Here, the acoustic radiative transfer theory, assuming multiple isotropic scattering, was utilized for the forward modeling of the synthetic coda-wave envelopes of local earthquakes. Our findings generally highlight the prominent nature of intrinsic attenuation over scattering attenuation, implying the presence of thick volcanic rocks with relatively high attenuation values beneath Central Anatolia. Overall, the spatial distribution of the attenuation at varying frequencies marks the Kırşehir Massif distinctively with its considerable high-attenuating character. Our findings, combined with early seismological and geo-electrical models, suggest a possible partial melt beneath most of the Central Anatolian Volcanic Province, and the resultant zones of elevated fluid-rich content exhibit high and dominant intrinsic attenuation. To the southeast, a gradual decrease in the observed attenuation coincides with the Central Taurus Mountains where high altitude is considered to be evolved following the slab break-off and resulting mantle upwelling.

Digital stories are a form of expression that emerges by combining the art of storytelling with multimedia tools such as sound, picture, and video. In this research, examining the experiences of pre-service teachers in creating digital stories in accordance with the science curriculum and the effects of this process on the pre-service teachers' self-confidence in technological pedagogical content knowledge was aimed. This research, using a mixed model approach, was conducted with 24 fourth-grade pre-service teachers. In the study, the "Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Confidence Scale" (TPACK) was applied as a pre-test and posttest. The quantitative findings of the study revealed that the experiences of pre-service teachers in creating a scientific digital story increased statistically significantly in the TK dimension of the TPACK scale and in the TPACK total self-confidence scores. The qualitative findings of the research showed that it had a positive effect on TCK, TPK, and TPCK dimensions, as well as on the TK and total score of TPACK. In the light of these findings of the research, the use of digital stories in educational environments can be recommended since the use of digital stories in educational environments is effective in developing students' TPACK self-confidence perceptions.

The aim of robust social learning networks such as eTwinning, which is a part of Erasmus internationality programs, is to foster and promote the creation and development of awareness for respect, tolerance, and understanding by ensuring the integration of young people from different countries and cultures through dialogue. Phenomenological research design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this research in which the experiences of teacher candidates regarding the eTwinning project were analyzed. The focus of the transnational collaboration was that student teachers from different cultures use eTwinning's secure and safe digital platform, Twinspace, to contribute to their cultural, personal, and professional development and competences through eTwinning activities. The study group of the research represents 30 (4 males, 26 females) student teachers studying in Turkey (2 universities), Italy (1 university), Germany (1 university), and France (1 university). Participants were between the ages of 18-24. A semi-structured interview form (Google Form) developed by the researchers was used as the qualitative data collection tool. The content analysis method was used for data analysis. The student teachers researched, analyzed, and compared their teacher training systems of the four project countries, to identify the skills and cultural differences required as a pre-service primary school teacher in the 21st century.

The objective of this study is to identify the typomorphological dynamics of rural settlements and to prioritize them hierarchically using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate changes in the top three dynamics over time in a sample village through the application of fractal and space syntax analysis. The dynamic and sub-dynamic elements of typomorphology were gathered from previous studies carried out at the urban and rural scales, and their equivalents in the rural settlement context were determined. The study participants, including 26 academics and independent architects and urban planners, were asked to participate in an online survey to rank the 12 typomorphological dynamics identified. The results were analyzed to determine the weighted outcomes of the dynamics and to form a hierarchical order of importance. The consistency ratio was also calculated. A fractal and space syntax analysis were conducted for the first three dynamics in a sample village to analyze the adaptation and mutation processes of the settlement region. The AHP results showed that cultivated and natural areas, socio-spatial references, and road/path networks are the key dynamics in the typomorphological analysis of rural settlements. The results emphasize the importance of enacting rural protection laws to regulate settlement and agricultural activities, given the significant impact of economic and demographic changes on rural settlement morphology. The study also highlights the need for sustainable land use practices that balance human settlement and agricultural activities with the preservation of natural ecosystems. Furthermore, the study underscores the role of road/path networks in shaping occupancy and emptiness. The results offer valuable insights into monitoring rural dynamics and managing rural settlements. The identified dynamics and their weighted values can guide decision-makers in rural planning and development.

Face and emotion recognition are crucial components of social cognition. We aimed to compare them in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (SCZ), ultra-high risk for psychosis (UHR), unaffected siblings of schizophrenia patients (SIB), and healthy controls (HC). Methods: One hundred sixty-six participants (45 SCZ, 14 UHR, 45 SIB, and 62 HC) were interviewed with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5). Positive and Negative syndrome scale (PANSS), PennCNB Facial Memory (CPF), and Emotion Recognition Task (ER40) were applied. Results: In CPF, SCZ performed significantly lower than SIB and HC. SIB was also significantly lower than HC for total correct responses. The sample size of the UHR group was small, and the statistical comparisons did not reach a significance, however, a trend towards decreased performance between the SCZ and SIB was found. In ER40, SCZ performed significantly lower than HC and SIB in all domains, except for the insignificant findings for angry ER between SIB and SCZ. SIB also performed significantly lower than HC for angry, negative, and total ER. UHR was similar to SCZ for happy and sad ER and performed significantly lower than HC for happy ER. The effect of SCZ diagnosis on the efficiency of CPF and ER40 was significant when corrected for age and education. For SCZ, PANSS also significantly affected the CPF and ER40. Conclusion: Our findings suggest varying levels of face and emotion recognition deficits in individuals with SCZ, UHR, and SIB. Face and emotion recognition deficits are promising schizophrenia endophenotypes related to social cognition.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has come to the fore all over the world, has had serious effects in the education process as in every field. Countries have urgently tried to make the necessary arrangements regarding their education systems. Similarly, in Turkey, the Ministry of National Education tried to transfer the courses in formal education to the distance education system in all schools and Higher Education Institutions. However, until this time, only theoretical courses and courses regarding the technology-based practices were included in distance education. In this sense, serious difficulties have experienced especially in practical courses such as laboratories and internships. One of the biggest debates in education faculties, which had to take a break from face-to-face education as of March 2020, has been about how to conduct internship courses such as teaching practice in the distance education process. For this reason, this study aimed to examine the opinions of primary school pre-service teachers about the teaching practice course during the pandemic process. Both pre-service teachers and primary school students, whom they taught and observed within the scope of the teaching practice course, experienced the distance education process for the first time. It is very important to investigate the positive and negative experiences of the primary school pre-service teachers who will start to work as the teachers of the future and to take the necessary precautions. In this context, this study, which was carried out as a a phenomological study, was conducted with 8 pre-service teachers who were enrolled in a teaching practice course at a state university in the fall semester of 2020-2021. While the data were obtained from open-ended questions, the reports and lesson plans kept during the semester were examined by the researchers. The data were analyzed by qualitative analysis methods.

Objective: Numerous studies performed worldwide indicate that the public has limited knowledge of anaesthesia practices and anaesthetists’ duties and responsibilities. This study aimed to identify the level of knowledge about anaesthetists and anaesthesia practices, and to assess the reasons for anxiety about anaesthesia of the population admitted to our hospital, which is tertiary in Turkey. The secondary aim was to analyze their differences according to sex, education level, and acquired anaesthesia experience. Methods: A survey comprising 23 questions was administered to 400 patients and/or their relatives, aged 18-85 years, who presented to our clinic for preoperative anaesthesia evaluation and for whom elective surgery was planned from March through October 2017. Results: Of the 400 participants, 213 were women and 187 were men. Of all participants in the survey, 51.2% were patients and 48.8% were patient relatives; 64.2% had anaesthesia experience and 35.8% had never had anaesthesia before. The survey group’s level of knowledge about anaesthesia was generally low. According to education level, there was a statistically significant difference in the anaesthesia recognition level. However, the acquired anaesthesia experience did not affect the anaesthesia recognition level. Conclusion: To raise the level of knowledge about this topic, anaesthetists must provide patients with more detailed information during preoperative and postoperative visits, which would significantly reduce their anxiety levels. Further, we determined that increasing the use of methods such as media-based brochures, booklets, and videos to inform patients may increase knowledge levels and reduce anxiety levels.

Metamaterials have emerged as a focal point in contemporary science and technology due to their ability to drive significant innovations. These engineered materials are specifically designed to couple the phenomena of different physical natures, thereby influencing processes through mechanical or thermal effects. While much of the recent research has concentrated on frequency conversion into electromagnetic waves, the field of acoustic frequency conversion still faces considerable technical challenges. To overcome these hurdles, researchers are developing metamaterials with customized acoustic properties. A key equation for modeling nonlinear acoustic wave phenomena is the dissipative Westervelt equation. This study investigates analytical solutions using ansatz-based methods combined with Lie symmetries. The approach presented here provides a versatile framework that is applicable to a wide range of fields in metamaterial design.

This study aims to analyse the effects of science teaching practices supported by Web 2.0 tools on prospective elementary school teachers' perceptions of self-efficacy beliefs in using Web 2.0 tools. The study was conducted in pre test-post test quasi-experimental design with no control group, and it was supported with qualitative data. The research was conducted with the participation of 40 prospective teachers registered in Elementary School Teaching Department of a state university in 2017-2018 academic year. The study was conducted throughout a semester (for 14 weeks) within the scope of the course Science and Technology Teaching II. The lessons were taught in consistence with constructivist learning approach directed to all the gains available in the 3rd and 4th grade Science teaching curriculum prepared by the Ministry of National Education (MNE) (2018) on the basis of student-centred methods and techniques by supporting with Web 2.0 tools. 23 Web 2.0 tools in total were used throughout the study. The "Web 2.0 Rapid Content Development Self-efficacy Scale" developed by Birisci, Kul, Aksu, Akaslan and Çelik (2018) in addition to an interview form of openended questions developed by the researcher to obtain prospective teachers' views on the use of Web 2.0 tools in science teaching were used in this study. Consequently, it was found that science teaching practices supported by Web 2.0 tools had positive effects on prospective elementary school teachers' their self-efficacy perceptions on the use of Web 2.0 tools. An examination of the participants' responses to the open-ended questions demonstrated that the participants said that Web 2.0 tools had positive impacts especially on the learning process and they were innovative and they improved upper order thinking skills, creativity and imagination and that they could be used especially in eliminating the anxiety and misconceptions in science teaching.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of energy resources activities on attitudes and views of prospective classroom teachers about renewable energy resources within the context of out-of school learning environments. In the study, quasi-experimental design without pre-test post-test control group was used. The research was conducted in the spring term of 2017-2018 academic year with an in-depth study plan for a total of 14 weeks with 12 prospective classroom teachers within the scope of Community Service Practices course. Out-of-school learning activities are held in Solar Park House and Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Information Center which is Turkey's first nuclear power plant, located in Mersin. In the research, Attitude Scale for Renewable Energy Resources developed by Günes, Alat and Gözüm (2013) was used. Also, the interview form, which consists of open-ended questions developed by the researcher and the diaries kept by the prospective teachers within the scope of the course were examined by qualitative analysis method. As a result of the research, it was found that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the prospective classroom teachers regarding the renewable energy resources in favor of the post-test scores.

It is an irony of history that since texts transcend the intentions and purposes of their authors, their meaning and significance are often contested anew as they enter new historical contexts; even historical texts are thus subject to reading and criticism over time. This article discusses the posthumous fate of Henry Stubbe’s own text on Islamic history, The Rise and Progress of Mahometanism—seen by some to represent a Copernican revolution in the study of Islam. The fate of this work is a clear example of the critical contingencies and fluctuating fortunes experienced by a corpus of texts. The continuing existence of a text as an object open to reconfiguration and re-evaluation is termed its after-history (Nachgeschichte) or afterlife (Nachleben). This notion of the afterlife of an object as a period of critical appreciation and political appropriation aptly defines the fate and fame of The Rise and Progress of Mahometanism. The present study seeks to explore the narrative surrounding a publication authored by Stubbe in the 17th century and finally published by Hafiz Mahmud Khan Shairani, with the critical support of Ottoman intellectual Halil Halid Bey, nearly two centuries later. Its objective is to investigate how the life and contributions of a figure whose work has transcended generations was resurrected within the political backdrop of the 20th century, as evidenced in the columns of Ottoman newspapers.

The purpose of this research is to prepare a valid and reliable measurement tool in order to determine the acquisition of teacher candidates under the hidden curriculum in teacher training process. The research is a field study of descriptive quality. In the development of the scale, firstly the related literature has been examined and a pool of 66 items has been formed. Subsequently, expert opinion was received for scope validity. A draft consisting of 43 items was obtained in the line with the expert opinion. After necessary permissions were obtained, it was applied to Akdeniz University Faculty of Education for the pilot application of the scale. The scale was applied to 259 teacher candidates in the fourth year of study at Akdeniz University Faculty of Education by the researcher on May 6-17, 2019. Factor analysis was performed by using SPSS package program for construct validity of the scale. KMO (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin) sampling and Bartlett Sphericity test were applied before factor analysis. As a result, the valid and reliable "Hidden Curriculum Scale in Teacher Education" was developed. The rapid advancements in metamaterial research have brought forth a new era of possibilities for controlling and manipulating light at the nanoscale. In particular, the design and engineering of optical metamaterials have created advances in the field of photonics, enabling the development of advanced devices with unprecedented functionalities. Among the myriad of intriguing metamaterial structures, the nonlinear directional couplers with beta derivative evolution have emerged as a significant avenue of exploration, offering remarkable potential for light propagation and manipulation. This study obtains the solitary wave solutions for twin-core couplers having spatial-temporal fractional beta derivative evolution by using two different methods, the Bernoulli method and the complete polynomial discriminant system method. By graphing some of the obtained solutions, the effect of the beta derivative has been shown. The findings would be beneficial to understand physical behaviours in nonlinear optics, particularly twin-core couplers with optical metamaterials.
