Abstract

Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve of genus 2 over a number field $k$ with a rational point. We prove that the index and exponent coincide for elements in the 2-torsion of $\Sha(Br(C))$. In the appendix, an isomorphism of the moduli space of rank 2 stable vector bundles with odd determinant on a smooth projective hyperelliptic curve $C$ of genus $g$ with a rational point over any field of characteristic not two with the Grassmannian of $(g-1)$-dimensional linear subspaces in the base locus of a certain pencil of quadrics is established, making a result of (\cite{De-Ra}) rational. We establish a twisted version of this isomorphism and we derive as a consequence a weak Hasse principle for the smooth intersection $X$ of two quadrics in ${\mathbb P}^5$ over a number field: if $X$ contains a line locally, then $X$ has a $k$-rational point., Comment: Some typos and a misprint in Definition 1.4, are corrected

Abstract

A settling basin is generally provided close to the headwork of hydropower projects to facilitate settlement and exclusion of sediments to meet the stipulated design criteria. The settling basin minimizes the wear and tear of the underwater components of the power plant. The design of inlet transition and inlet zone of the basin has to consider non-uniform flow conditions and formation of eddies. The configuration of inlet transition has a significant effect on the water and sediment flow pattern at the entry point and in the inlet zone as such and consequently on the overall settling efficiency of the basin. The review of model studies and case studies on the settling basin of run-of-river projects in the Himalayan and other mountainous regions, with particular reference to the inlet transition design, brings to light the strengths and limitations of physical and numerical models, merits of combining both types of models in specific cases and also the important parameters to be considered in model studies. The design features for inlet transition in open channel and pressure flow basin projects are also discussed. Importance of monitoring and reporting the performance of existing settling basins for improving the design of inlet transition of settling basins in future has been highlighted. Abstract

Global energy needs are growing continuously, and there is now more focus on renewable energy sources. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and wind have the major contribution among utility-level renewable energy sources. In India, till now gridconnected solar PV systems do not follow any specialized controls for grid support during disturbance and they isolate the solar PV system immediately with the help of anti-islanding technique. The paper presents a synchronous reference frame-based current control technique for solar PV inverters with low voltage ride-through control. A detailed performance analysis of grid-connected solar PV systems with and without low voltage ride-through control for various types of grid faults has been carried out. Various parameters like active and reactive power injection, circuit breaker opening time, dc-link voltage magnitude and voltage magnitude at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) are recorded for symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults. Abstract

Thrombin and factor Xa (FXa) are critical enzymes of the blood coagulation cascade and are excellent targets of anticoagulant agents. Natural sources present an array of anticoagulants that can be developed as antithrombotic drugs. High-resolution, online screening techniques have been developed for the identification of drug leads from complex mixtures. In this study, we have developed and optimized a microfluidic online screening technique coupled to nano–liquid chromatography (LC) and in parallel with a mass spectrometer for the identification of thrombin and FXa inhibitors in mixtures. Inhibitors eluting from the nano-LC were split postcolumn in a 1:1 ratio; half was fed into a mass spectrometer (where its mass is detected), and the other half was fed into a microfluidic chip (which acts as a microreactor for the online assays). With our platform, thrombin and FXa inhibitors were detected in the assay in parallel with their mass identification. These methods are suitable for the identification of inhibitors from sample amounts as low as sub-microliter volumes.

Abstract

The paper proposes an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based method for monitoring the voltage stability margin in electrical power systems. The reactive power loading margin is used as an indicator of voltage instability. Principal Component Analysis (PCA), an efficient feature selection method, is used to select the minimum number of input variables required to approximate the reactive power loading margin with sufficient accuracy and high execution speed. A comprehensive set of input patterns, covering several loading and contingent conditions that may lead to voltage instability in the system, is generated and used for training the ANN. This ANN-based method is successfully implemented on IEEE 14-bus test system. The results indicate that the proposed PCA method provides an effective and coherent ANN model that can successfully and precisely estimate the reactive power loading margin under different system operating conditions employing the fewest possible input features.
