The article discusses the idea of competency-based education (CBE), which is increasingly used to improve training for the modern knowledge-based economy. A general description of such training has been made, in the center of which is the learner. The ideas for ADDIE were used – a training model that meets the objectives of the UNCCD. The article focuses on self-assessment as one of the characteristic forms of CBE assessment. The results of the self-assessment of students participating in the training in the profession “Applied Programmer” are presented. The study involved students studying under the National Program “IT Career Training” (NPITC), with which the CBE was conducted and a group of students in which traditional training in the profession was conducted. The prepared self-assessment questionnaire includes questions related to the development of basic and specific competencies. The questions on specific competencies are based on the competency models used in the IT sector. The results of the survey show that students who participated in the CBE have a higher self-esteem than students trained in the traditional approach. It is necessary to conclude that the CBE is suitable for use in modern education, despite the need for serious preparation before its implementation.

The pandemic situation with Covid-19 posed more and more the need of virtual management in business. This is even more necessary in education. In the present article we share our almost ten years of experience in virtual management of teams. In addition to the traditional education we applied a dynamic record system along with other digital applications in the development of curricula and national exams. We also analyzed student‘s attitude to work in such a virtual environment. We also share our experience in the management of the national program IT career training a virtual team for the development of programs in the field of computer science and last but not least our management of a team of the national commission for Olympiads and mathematics. This article makes an analysis and conclusions for successful practices as well as conditions for building a successful virtual team.

The article discusses the main aspects of human resource management in secondary schools. Emphasis is placed on the differences between school management and business. The essential factors influencing the management of human resources in secondary schools are pointed out. The strong connection between the ability of principals to create a positive environment and attitudes for full-fledged work in school was studied. The article promotes the idea that good human resource management is important for the image of a school, not only from the point of view of the principal, but also of each teacher managing his class and communication with parents. Unfortunately, there is a lack of competence in this area, which leads to negatives in the management of schools.

Hiring teachers in the secondary education system is a critical moment. The image of the school and the calm and positive environment for teamwork depend on the good procedure and the preparation of a team for the implementation of this procedure. While most companies have a human resources department that only deals with this, in schools this is not an option. At the same time, the overall activity at the school depends on the good selection. The article discusses the main problems in this process and gives models that have been implemented by the author in his many years of practice. This process, with the serious decline of trained pedagogical specialists, becomes even more critical, and it is good to have a system for selection and implementation.

The article presents a survey among teachers in mathematics with the idea to evaluate their professional and methodological skills as a factor in the results of national external assessment of 15-year-old students in Bulgarian school. The sample is representative – the opinion of teachers in mathematics from all over the country is taken. They are also part of the team trained in the methodology for assessing the exam. The results show that teachers have a high level of professional training, but the methodological expertise is less. The authors conclude that not only what is taught is important, but also how it is presented.
