Nanoscale self-localized topological spin textures, such as domain walls and skyrmions, are of interest for the fundamental physics of magnets and spintronics applications. Ferrimagnets (FiMs), in the region close to the angular momentum compensation point, are promising materials because of their ultrafast spin dynamics at nonzero magnetization. In this work, we study specific features of the FiM domain wall (DW) dynamics, which are absent in both ferromagnets (FM) and antiferromagnets (AFM). In low-damping FMs and AFMs ($\alpha \ll 1$), the non-stationary forced motion of DWs is characterized by slow ($t_{diss}\propto 1/\alpha$) changes of the DW's velocity and internal structure for all accepted values of the DW energy $E$ and its linear momentum $P$ -- a consequence of the stability of DWs for any value of $P$. In contrast, the dispersion law of FiM DWs has specific points, $P=P_{cr}$ and $E_{cr}=E(P_{cr})$, such that stable DWs are only present for $P

Hidden-charm strong decays of the spin-2 partner $X_2(4014)$ of the charmonium-like state $X(3872)$ have been studied in the framework of the covariant confined quark model. The exotic state $X_2$ has been interpreted as a four-quark state with molecular-type interpolating current. We have considered the decay widths of $X_2$ on the level of two-petal quark loops. The partial widths of the strong decays $X_2\!\to\!\omega \, J/\Psi$ and $X_2\!\to\!\rho^0 \, J/\Psi$ have been calculated and the related branching ratio has been analyzed.

Semiconductor quantum dots in microcavities are an excellent platform for the efficient generation of indistinguishable single photons. However, their use in a wide range of quantum technologies requires their controlled fabrication and integration in compact closed-cycle cryocoolers, with a key challenge being the efficient and stable extraction of the single photons into a single-mode fiber. Here we report on a novel method for fiber-pigtailing of deterministically fabricated single-photon sources. Our technique allows for nanometer-scale alignment accuracy between the source and a fiber, alignment that persists all the way from room temperature to 2.4 K. We demonstrate high performance of the device under near-resonant optical excitation with g$^{(2)}$(0) = 1.3 %, a photon indistinguishability of 97.5 % and a fibered brightness of 20.8 %. We show that the indistinguishability and single-photon rate are stable for over ten hours of continuous operation in a single cooldown. We study a difference Riccati equation $\Phi(x) + \rho(x)/\Phi(x-\omega) = v(x)$ with $1-$periodic continuos coefficients. Using continued fraction theory we investigate a problem of existence of continuos solutions for this equation. It is shown that convergence of a continued fraction representing a solution of the Riccati equation can be expressed in terms of hyperbolicity of a cocycle naturally associated to this continued fraction. We apply the critical set method to establish the uniform hyperbolicity of the cocycle and to obtain sufficient conditions for the convergence of a continued fraction giving a representation for a solution of the Riccati equation.

Differentiable simulation has become a powerful tool for system identification. While prior work has focused on identifying robot properties using robot-specific data or object properties using object-specific data, our approach calibrates object properties by using information from the robot, without relying on data from the object itself. Specifically, we utilize robot joint encoder information, which is commonly available in standard robotic systems. Our key observation is that by analyzing the robot's reactions to manipulated objects, we can infer properties of those objects, such as inertia and softness. Leveraging this insight, we develop differentiable simulations of robot-object interactions to inversely identify the properties of the manipulated objects. Our approach relies solely on proprioception -- the robot's internal sensing capabilities -- and does not require external measurement tools or vision-based tracking systems. This general method is applicable to any articulated robot and requires only joint position information. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method on a low-cost robotic platform, achieving accurate mass and elastic modulus estimations of manipulated objects with just a few seconds of computation on a laptop.

Frameworks and DSLs auto-generating code have traditionally relied on human experts developing them to have in place rigorous methods to assure the legality of the applied code transformations. Machine Learning (ML) is gaining wider adoption as a means to auto-generate code optimised for the hardware target. However, ML solutions, and in particular black-box DNNs, provide no such guarantees on legality. In this paper we propose a library, Tadashi, which leverages the polyhedral model to empower researchers seeking to curate datasets crucial for applying ML in code-generation. Tadashi provides the ability to reliably and practically check the legality of candidate transformations on polyhedral schedules applied on a baseline reference code. We provide a proof that our library guarantees the legality of generated transformations, and demonstrate its lightweight practical cost. While multimodal foundation models can now natively work with data beyond text, they remain underutilized in analyzing the considerable amounts of multi-dimensional time-series data in fields like healthcare, finance, and social sciences, representing a missed opportunity for richer, data-driven insights. This paper proposes a simple but effective method that leverages the existing vision encoders of these models to "see" time-series data via plots, avoiding the need for additional, potentially costly, model training. Our empirical evaluations show that this approach outperforms providing the raw time-series data as text, with the additional benefit that visual time-series representations demonstrate up to a 90% reduction in model API costs. We validate our hypothesis through synthetic data tasks of increasing complexity, progressing from simple functional form identification on clean data, to extracting trends from noisy scatter plots. To demonstrate generalizability from synthetic tasks with clear reasoning steps to more complex, real-world scenarios, we apply our approach to consumer health tasks - specifically fall detection, activity recognition, and readiness assessment - which involve heterogeneous, noisy data and multi-step reasoning. The overall success in plot performance over text performance (up to an 120% performance increase on zero-shot synthetic tasks, and up to 150% performance increase on real-world tasks), across both GPT and Gemini model families, highlights our approach's potential for making the best use of the native capabilities of foundation models., Comment: 49 pages

A new SPHERE-3 telescope is being developed for cosmic rays spectrum and mass composition studies in the 5--1000 PeV energy range. Registration of extensive air showers using reflected Cherenkov light method applied in the SPHERE detector series requires a good trigger system for accurate separation of events from the background produced by starlight and airglow photons reflected from the snow. Here we present the results of convolutional networks application for the classification of images obtained from Monte Carlo simulation of the detector. Detector response simulations include photons tracing through the optical system, silicon photomultiplier operation and electronics response and digitization process. The second PyHEP.dev workshop, part of the "Python in HEP Developers" series organized by the HEP Software Foundation (HSF), took place in Aachen, Germany, from August 26 to 30, 2024. This gathering brought together nearly 30 Python package developers, maintainers, and power users to engage in informal discussions about current trends in Python, with a primary focus on analysis tools and techniques in High Energy Physics (HEP). The workshop agenda encompassed a range of topics, such as defining the scope of HEP data analysis, exploring the Analysis Grand Challenge project, evaluating statistical models and serialization methods, assessing workflow management systems, examining histogramming practices, and investigating distributed processing tools like RDataFrame, Coffea, and Dask. Additionally, the workshop dedicated time to brainstorming the organization of future PyHEP.dev events, upholding the tradition of alternating between Europe and the United States as host locations. The current-voltage (I-V) properties along the c axis on Nd2-xCexCuO4 /SrTiO3 epitaxial films with x = 0.145, 0.15 were investigated. For all the samples it has been established that the I-V characteristics exhibit several resistive branches, which correspond to the resistive states of individual Josephson junctions. The results confirm the idea of a tunneling mechanism between the CuO2 layers (superconductor - insulator - superconductor junction) for the investigated Nd2-xCexCuO4 compound. The I-V dependence of this compound with x = 0.15 points out on the nonmonotonic nature of the d-wave or anisotropic s-wave symmetry order parameter associated with the coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetic fluctuations., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables

We obtain three Helly-type results. First, we establish a Quantitative Colorful Helly-type theorem with the optimal Helly number \(2d\) concerning the diameter of the intersection of a family of convex bodies. Second, we prove a Quantitative Helly-type theorem with the optimal Helly number \(2d+1\) for the pointwise minimum of logarithmically concave functions. Finally, we present a colorful version of the latter result with Helly number (number of color classes) \(3d+1\); however, we have no reason to believe that this bound is sharp.

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems have achieved remarkable performance on widely used benchmarks such as LibriSpeech and Fleurs. However, these benchmarks do not adequately reflect the complexities of real-world conversational environments, where speech is often unstructured and contains disfluencies such as pauses, interruptions, and diverse accents. In this study, we introduce a multilingual conversational dataset, derived from TalkBank, consisting of unstructured phone conversation between adults. Our results show a significant performance drop across various state-of-the-art ASR models when tested in conversational settings. Furthermore, we observe a correlation between Word Error Rate and the presence of speech disfluencies, highlighting the critical need for more realistic, conversational ASR benchmarks.

Large language models (LLMs) have enabled a range of applications in zero-shot and few-shot learning settings, including the generation of synthetic datasets for training and testing. However, to reliably use these synthetic datasets, it is essential to understand how representative they are of real-world data. We investigate this by assessing the effectiveness of generating synthetic data through LLM and using it as a benchmark for various NLP tasks. Our experiments across six datasets, and three different tasks, show that while synthetic data can effectively capture performance of various methods for simpler tasks, such as intent classification, it falls short for more complex tasks like named entity recognition. Additionally, we propose a new metric called the bias factor, which evaluates the biases introduced when the same LLM is used to both generate benchmarking data and to perform the tasks. We find that smaller LLMs exhibit biases towards their own generated data, whereas larger models do not. Overall, our findings suggest that the effectiveness of synthetic data as a benchmark varies depending on the task, and that practitioners should rely on data generated from multiple larger models whenever possible.

This paper presents the first search for dark matter axions with mass in the ranges 76.56 to 76.82 $\mu$eV and 79.31 to 79.53 $\mu$eV using a prototype setup for the MAgnetized Disk and Mirror Axion eXperiment (MADMAX). The experimental setup employs a dielectric haloscope consisting of three sapphire disks and a mirror to resonantly enhance the axion-induced microwave signal within the magnetic dipole field provided by the 1.6 T Morpurgo magnet at CERN. Over 14.5 days of data collection, no axion signal was detected. A 95% CL upper limit on the axion-photon coupling strength down to $|g_{a\gamma}| \sim 2 \times 10^{-11} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$ is set in the targeted mass ranges, surpassing previous constraints, assuming a local axion dark matter density $\rho_{a}$ of $0.3~\mathrm{GeV}/\mathrm{cm}^3$. This study marks the first axion dark matter search using a dielectric haloscope.

Sub-angstrom spatial resolution of electron density coupled with sub-femtosecond temporal resolution is required to directly observe the dynamics of the electronic structure of a molecule after photoinitiation or some other ultrafast perturbation. Meeting this challenge, pushing the field of quantum crystallography to attosecond timescales, would bring insights into how the electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom couple, enable the study of quantum coherences involved in molecular dynamics, and ultimately enable these dynamics to be controlled. Here we propose to reach this realm by employing convergent-beam X-ray crystallography with high-power attosecond pulses from a hard-X-ray free-electron laser. We show that with dispersive optics, such as multilayer Laue lenses of high numerical aperture, it becomes possible to encode time into the resulting diffraction pattern with deep sub-femtosecond precision. Each snapshot diffraction pattern consists of Bragg streaks that can be mapped back to arrival times and positions of X-rays on the face of a crystal. This can span tens of femtoseconds, and can be finely sampled as we demonstrate experimentally. The approach brings several other advantages, such as an increase of the number of observable reflections in a snapshot diffraction pattern, all fully integrated, to improve the speed and accuracy of serial crystallography -- especially for crystals of small molecules., Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures

We explore full-shape analysis with simulation-based priors, which is the simplest approach to galaxy clustering data analysis that combines effective field theory (EFT) on large scales and numerical simulations on small scales. The core ingredient of our approach is the prior density of EFT parameters which we extract from a suite of 10500 galaxy simulations based on the halo occupation distribution (HOD) model. We measure the EFT parameters with the field-level forward model, which enables us to cancel cosmic variance. On the theory side, we develop a new efficient approach to calculate field-level transfer functions using time-sliced perturbation theory and the logarithmic fast Fourier transform. We study cosmology dependence of EFT parameters of dark matter halos and HOD galaxies and find that it can be ignored for the purpose of prior generation. We use neural density estimation to model the measured distribution of EFT parameters. Our distribution model is then used as a prior in a reanalysis of the BOSS full-shape galaxy power spectrum data. Assuming the $\Lambda$CDM model, we find significant ($\approx 30\%$ and $\approx 60\%$) improvements for the matter density fraction and the mass fluctuation amplitude, which are constrained to $\Omega_m= 0.315 \pm 0.010$ and $\sigma_8 = 0.671 \pm 0.027$. The value of the Hubble constant does not change, $H_0= 68.7\pm 1.1$ km/s/Mpc. This reaffirms earlier reports of the structure growth tension from the BOSS data. Cosmological models are often motivated and formulated in the language of particle physics, using quantities such as the axion decay constant, but tested against data using ostensibly physical quantities, such as energy density ratios, assuming uniform priors on the latter. This approach neglects priors on the model from fundamental theory, including from particle physics and string theory, such as the preference for sub-Planckian axion decay constants. We introduce a novel approach to learning theory-informed priors for Bayesian inference using normalizing flows (NF), a flexible generative machine learning technique that generates priors on model parameters when analytic expressions are unavailable or difficult to compute. As a test case, we focus on early dark energy (EDE), a model designed to address the Hubble tension. Rather than using uniform priors on the $\textit{phenomenological}$ EDE parameters $f_{\rm EDE}$ and $z_c$, we train a NF on EDE cosmologies informed by theory expectations for axion masses and decay constants. Our method recovers known constraints in this representation while being $\sim 300,000$ times more efficient in terms of total CPU compute time. Applying our NF to $\textit{Planck}$ and BOSS data, we obtain the first theory-informed constraints on EDE, finding $f_{\rm EDE} \lesssim 0.02$ at $95\%$ confidence with an $H_0$ consistent with $\textit{Planck}$, but in $\sim 6\sigma$ tension with SH0ES. This yields the strongest constraints on EDE to date, additionally challenging its role in resolving the Hubble tension., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables

Magnetic field-induced electric polarization has been observed in trigonal non-centrosymmetric paramagnetic Pr3Ga5SiO14 langasite. We detected quadratic electric polarization along the a-axis in the basal ab plane for various magnetic-field orientations. Electric polarization along the c-axis is only evident starting from the fourth power of magnetic field, in accordance with the trigonal symmetry. The magnetic properties of Pr3Ga5SiO14 primarily stem from the local anisotropic magnetic moment of the two lowest Pr3+ singlets (quasi-doublet) in the crystal electric field. The random distribution of Ga/Si in the 2d positions leads to a local distortion of C2 symmetry and to a splitting distribution of the quasi-doublet. By considering the interactions of local moments among different Pr3+ positions within a phenomenological approach for the allowed magnetoelectric coupling, we derive the electric polarization in terms of symmetry-allowed combinations of local magnetic susceptibilities and field components. The magnetic field dependence of electric polarization in the basal plane, P_{a,b*}, is mainly determined by the accumulation of effective local susceptibilities, exhibiting similar behavior in low fields, while polarization along the c-axis, P_c, arises from the non-equivalence of local effective magnetic susceptibilities in different Pr3+ positions. Our findings suggest that the temperature dependencies of magnetic and magnetoelectric susceptibilities are highly sensitive to the distribution of the quasi-doublet splitting, which reflects the local symmetry breaking.

Young planetary systems represent an opportunity to investigate the early stages of (exo)planetary formation because the gravitational interactions have not yet significantly changed the initial configuration of the system. TOI-4562 b is a highly eccentric temperate Jupiter analogue orbiting a young F7V-type star of $<700$ Myr in age with an orbital period of $P_{orb} \sim 225$ days and an eccentricity of $e=0.76$, and is one of the largest known exoplanets to have formed in situ. We observed a new transit of TOI-4562 b using the 0.6-m Zeiss telescope at the Pico dos Dias Observatory (OPD/LNA) in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and combine our data with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and archive data, with the aim being to improve the ephemerides of this interesting system. The $O-C$ diagram for the new ephemeris is consistent with the presence of a giant planet in an outer orbit around TOI-4562. TOI-4562 c is a planet with a mass of $M=5.77 M_{Jup}$, an orbital period of $P_{orb}= 3990$ days, and a semi-major axis of $a = 5.219$ AU. We report the discovery of TOI-4562 c, the exoplanet with the longest orbital period discovered to date via the transit timing variation (TTV) method. The TOI-4562 system is in the process of violent evolution with intense dynamical changes - judging by its young age and high eccentricity - and is therefore a prime target for studies of formation and evolution of planetary systems., Comment: 5 pages and 3 figures (+ appendix). When parametrizing multi-Higgs potentials, it is desirable to express its coefficients via observables. This is routinely done for the 2HDM, but this approach often fails in more elaborate models. Here, we show that the scalar sector of the CP4 3HDM, an intriguing model based on an order-4 $CP$ symmetry, can also be parametrized in an observable-driven manner. The key feature that makes it work is the very special tridiagonal form of the $5\times 5$ neutral Higgs mass matrix. We propose a set of input observables and present an algorithm to reconstruct the coefficients of the potential through linear relations. Equipped with this procedure, we explore the scalar sector of the CP4 3HDM beyond the limitations of previous studies. In particular, we identify a viable and testable regime in which all additional Higgses lie in the 300--600~GeV range. We study the ``no-dimensional'' analogue of Helly's theorem in Banach spaces. Specifically, we obtain the following no-dimensional Helly-type results for uniformly convex Banach spaces: Helly's theorem, fractional Helly's theorem, colorful Helly's theorem, and colorful fractional Helly's theorem. The combinatorial part of the proofs for these Helly-type results is identical to the Euclidean case as presented in \cite{adiprasito2020theorems}. The primary difference lies in the use of a certain geometric inequality in place of the Pythagorean theorem. This inequality can be explicitly expressed in terms of the modulus of convexity of a Banach space.

Linguistically inclusive LLMs -- which maintain good performance regardless of the language with which they are prompted -- are necessary for the diffusion of AI benefits around the world. Multilingual jailbreaks that rely on language translation to evade safety measures undermine the safe and inclusive deployment of AI systems. We provide policy recommendations to enhance the multilingual capabilities of AI while mitigating the risks of multilingual jailbreaks. We quantitatively assess the relationship between language resourcedness and model vulnerabilities to multilingual jailbreaks for five frontier large language models across 24 official EU languages. Building on prior research, we propose policy actions that align with the EU legal landscape and institutional framework to address multilingual jailbreaks, while promoting linguistic inclusivity. These include mandatory assessments of multilingual capabilities and vulnerabilities, public opinion research, and state support for multilingual AI development. LiCu$_3$O$_3$ is a novel 2D S=1/2 antiferromagnet with randomly depleted square lattice. The crystal structure contains two types of square planes with different Cu$^{2+}\rightarrow$ Li$^{+}$ substitution rates (20% and 40%). $^7$Li NMR and magnetization measurements performed on single crystals of LiCu$_3$O$_3$ revealed the occurrence of magnetic order at $T_{c1}=123$ K and the change of the magnetic state at $T_{c2}\approx30$ K. The high temperature transition can be attributed to establishment of magnetic order in planes with higher concentration of magnetic ions and the low temperature transition -- to the magnetic ordering in planes with lower concentration of magnetic ions. Broad continuous NMR spectra below $T_{c1}$ reflect a continuous distribution of values or directions of magnetic moments in LiCu$_3$O$_3$ typical for spiral, spin-modulated magnetic structures or structures with frozen disorder. Magnetization measurements revealed a spin-flop transition which indicates weak uniaxial anisotropy of the spin structure. Relatively small value of magnetic susceptibility at all orientations of applied magnetic field shows that magnetic structure is rigid, since the estimated value of saturation field derived from differential susceptibility measured at $\mu_0 H=5$ T is $\mu_0H_{sat} \approx$200 T., Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures

A single incompressible, inviscid, irrotational fluid medium bounded above by a free surface is considered. We consider certain fiber bundles over a paraquaternionic contact manifolds, called twistor and reflector spaces, and show that these carry an intrinsic geometric structure that is always integrable.

We consider the two-dimensional water-wave problem with a general non-zero vorticity field in a fluid volume with a flat bed and a free surface. The nonlinear equations of motion for the chosen surface and volume variables are expressed with the aid of the Dirichlet-Neumann operator and the Green function of the Laplace operator in the fluid domain. Moreover, we provide new explicit expressions for both objects. The field of a point vortex and its interaction with the free surface is studied as an example. We study the exclusive semileptonic decays $\Upsilon(1S)\to B_{(c)}\ell\bar{\nu}_\ell$, where $\ell = e,\mu,\tau$. The relevant hadronic form factors are calculated using the Covariant Confined Quark Model developed previously by our group. We predict the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(\Upsilon(1S)\to B_{(c)}\ell\bar{\nu}_\ell)$ to be of the order of $10^{-13}$ and $10^{-10}$ for the case of $B$ and $B_c$, respectively. Our predictions agree well with other theoretical calculations. We also consider the effects of possible New Physics in the case of $\Upsilon(1S)\to B_c\tau\bar{\nu}_\tau$. We show that the branching fraction of this decay can be enhanced by an order of magnitude using the constraints from the $B\to D^{(*)}\ell\bar{\nu}_\ell$ and $B_c\to J/\psi\ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ experimental data., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, 5 tables, submitted to Chinese Physics C

Multilayer nanoscale systems incorporating buried ultrathin tunnel oxides, 2D materials, and solid electrolytes are crucial for next-generation logics, memory, quantum and neuro-inspired computing. Still, an ultrathin layer control at angstrom scale is challenging for cutting-edge applications. Here we introduce a scalable approach utilizing focused ion-beam annealing for buried ultrathin oxides engineering with angstrom-scale thickness control. Our molecular dynamics simulations of Ne+ irradiation on Al/a-AlOx/Al structure confirms the pivotal role of ion generated crystal defects. We experimentally demonstrate its performance on Josephson junction tunning in the resistance range of 2 to 37% with a standard deviation of 0.86% across 25x25 mm chip. Moreover, we showcase +-17 MHz frequency control (+-0.172 A tunnel barrier thickness) for superconducting transmon qubits with coherence times up to 500 us, which is promising for useful fault-tolerant quantum computing. This work ensures ultrathin multilayer nanosystems engineering at the ultimate scale by depth-controlled crystal defects generation.

We calculate analytically the charge density $\rho_{\text{ind}}(\boldsymbol{r})$ at small distances induced by a Coulomb impurity in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides. The calculations were performed exactly in the coupling constant. We found the first three leading terms of the charge density asymptotics at small distances. Using this result, we demonstrate that the impurity with charge number $Z=1$ remains subcritical at any value of the coupling constant, whereas impurities with higher charge number could become supercritical at certain coupling constant values. Precision physics in the Higgs sector has been one of the main challenges of particle physics in the recent years. The pure fixed-order calculations entering the collinear factorization framework, which have been pushed up to next-cube-leading-order, are not able to describe the entire kinematic spectrum. In particular sectors, they have to be necessarily enhanced by all-order resummations. In the so-called semi-hard regime, large energy-type logarithms spoil the perturbative convergence of the series and must be resummed to all orders. This resummation is a core ingredient for a correct description of the inclusive hadroproduction of a forward Higgs boson in the limit of small Bjorken $x$, as well as for a precision study of inclusive forward emissions of a Higgs boson in association with a backward identified object. A complete resummation for these processes can be achieved at the at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy thanks to the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov approach. In the present work we present and discuss a series of recent phenomenological results within a partial next-to-leading accuracy. Defects in semiconductors have in recent years been revealed to have interesting properties in the venture towards quantum technologies. In this regard, silicon carbide has shown great promise as a host for quantum defects. In particular, the ultra-bright AB photoluminescence lines in 4H-SiC are observable at room temperature and have been proposed as a single-photon quantum emitter. These lines have been previously studied and assigned to the carbon antisite-vacancy pair (CAV). In this paper, we report on new measurements of the AB-lines' temperature dependence, and carry out an in-depth computational study on the optical properties of the CAV defect. We find that the CAV defect has the potential to exhibit several different zero-phonon luminescences with emissions in the near-infrared telecom band, in its neutral and positive charge states. However, our measurements show that the AB-lines only consist of three non-thermally activated lines instead of the previously reported four lines, meanwhile our calculations on the CAV defect are unable to find optical transitions in full agreement with the AB-line assignment. For a class of $(N+1)$-dimensional systems of differential delay equations with a cyclic and monotone negative feedback structure, we construct a two-dimensional invariant manifold, on which phase curves spiral outward towards a bounding periodic orbit. For this to happen we assume essentially only instability of the zero equilibrium. Methods of the Poincar\'e-Bendixson theory due to Mallet-Paret and Sell are combined with techniques used by Walther for the scalar case $(N = 0)$. Statements on the attractor location and on parameter borders concerning stability and oscillation are included. A simple non-autonomous scalar differential equation with delay, exponential decay, nonlinear negative feedback and a periodic multiplicative coefficient is considered. It is shown that stable slowly oscillating periodic solutions with the period of the feedback coefficient, and also with the double period of the feedback coefficient exist. The periodic solutions are built explicitly in the case of piecewise constant feedback function and the periodic coefficient. The periodic dynamics are shown to persist under small perturbations of the equation which make it smooth. The results are confirmed and illustrated by numerical simulations., Comment: 19 pages

The decomposition of a square matrix into a sum of Pauli strings is a classical pre-processing step required to realize many quantum algorithms. Such a decomposition requires significant computational resources for large matrices. We present a new exact and explicit formula for the Pauli string coefficients which inspires an efficient algorithm to compute them. More specifically, we show that up to a permutation of the matrix elements, the decomposition coefficients are related to the original matrix by a multiplication of a generalised Hadamard matrix. This allows one to use the Fast Walsh-Hadamard transform and calculate all Pauli decomposition coefficients in $\mathcal{O}(N^2\log N)$ time and using $\mathcal{O}(1)$ additional memory, for an $N\times N$ matrix. Broadband impedance-matched Josephson parametric amplifiers are key components for high-fidelity single-shot multi-qubit readout. Nowadays, several types of impedance matched parametric amplifiers have been proposed: the first is an impedance-matched parametric amplifier based on a Klopfenstein taper, and the second is an impedance-matched parametric amplifier based on auxiliary resonators. Here, we present the quantum-limited 3-wave-mixing lumped-element SNAIL parametric amplifier with two-units impedance matching transformer. A two-pole Chebyshev matching network with shunted resonators based on parallel-plate capacitors and superconducting planar coil. Operating in a flux-pumped mode, we experimentally demonstrate an average gain of $15dB$ across a $600MHz$ bandwidth, along with an average saturation power of $-107dBm$ and quantum-limited noise temperature., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Quantum simulation of materials is a promising application area of quantum computers. In order to realize this promise, finding ways to reduce quantum resources while maintaining the accuracy of results will be necessary. In electronic structure calculations on classical computer the reduction of resources has been achieved by using the projector augmented-wave method (PAW) and plane wave basis sets. In this work, we present an implementation of the PAW with plane waves for quantum computation of the energy. We first generalize the approach to many-body wavefunctions and develop the unitary version of the PAW which preserves the orthonormality of orbitals. Then, we provide a linear-combination-of-unitaries decomposition which explicitly accounts for the atomic two-body PAW correction and provide the corresponding block encodings of the Hamiltonian used in qubitized quantum phase estimation. We then estimate quantum resources for crystalline solids using down-sampling to estimate the energy within chemical accuracy with respect to the full basis set limit, and also consider a supercell approach which is more suitable for calculations of defect states. We provide the quantum resources for energy estimation of a nitrogen-vacancy defect centre in diamond which is a challenging system for classical algorithms and a quintessential problem in the studies of quantum point defects.

Quantum computation of the energy of molecules and materials is one of the most promising applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers. However, practical applications require algorithms with reduced resource requirements. Previous work has mainly represented the Hamiltonian of the system in second quantization. Existing methods in first quantization are limited to grid-based approaches that do not allow for active space calculations. In this work, we present a method to solve the generic ground-state chemistry problem in first quantization on a fault-tolerant quantum computer using any basis set. This allows for calculations in the active space using modern quantum chemistry basis sets. We derive a linear-combination-of-unitaries decomposition for a chemical Hamiltonian in first quantization and then construct an efficient block encoding, exploiting sparsity of the Hamiltonian. For active space calculations using a molecular orbital basis set, we achieve an asymptotic speed up in Toffoli-gate count compared to the equivalent method in second quantization [Berry, et. al. Quantum 3, 208 (2019)]. We also consider the dual plane waves for materials simulations and find that in physically interesting regimes we achieve orders of magnitude improvement in quantum resources compared to the second quantization counterpart. In some instances, our approach provides similar or even lower resources compared to the first quantization plane wave algorithm of Refs.[Babbush, et. al npj Quantum Inf 5(1) 92 (2019), Su et. al PRX Quantum 2(4), 040332 (2021)] that, unlike our approach, avoids loading the classical data from quantum memory. This work opens up possibilities to reduce quantum resources even further using factorization methods of a Hamiltonian or modern pseudopotentials. In quantum mechanics, a quantum wavepacket may acquire a geometrical phase as it evolves along a cyclic trajectory in parameter space. In condensed matter systems, the Berry phase plays a crucial role in fundamental phenomena such as the Hall effect, orbital magnetism, and polarization. Resolving the quantum nature of these processes commonly requires sensitive quantum techniques, as tunneling, being the dominant mechanism in STM microscopy and tunneling transport devices. In this study, we integrate these two phenomena - geometrical phases and tunneling - and observe a complex-valued Berry phase via strong field light matter interactions in condensed matter systems. By manipulating the tunneling barrier, with attoseconds precision, we measure the imaginary Berry phase accumulated as the electron tunnels during a fraction of the optical cycle. Our work opens new theoretical and experimental directions in geometrical phases physics and their realization in condensed matter systems, expanding solid state strong field light metrology to study topological quantum phenomena., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures

We report the first result from a dark photon dark matter search in the mass range from ${78.62}$ to $83.95~\mathrm{\mu eV}/c^2$ with a dielectric haloscope prototype for MADMAX (Magnetized Disc and Mirror Axion eXperiment). Putative dark photons would convert to observable photons within a stack consisting of three sapphire disks and a mirror. The emitted power of this system is received by an antenna and successively digitized using a low-noise receiver. No dark photon signal has been observed. Assuming unpolarized dark photon dark matter with a local density of $\rho_{\chi}=0.3~\mathrm{GeV/cm^3}$ we exclude a dark photon to photon mixing parameter $\chi > 3.0 \times 10^{-12}$ over the full mass range and $\chi > 1.2 \times 10^{-13}$ at a mass of $80.57~\mathrm{\mu eV}/c^2$ with a 95\% confidence level. This is the first physics result from a MADMAX prototype and exceeds previous constraints on $\chi$ in this mass range by up to almost three orders of magnitude., Comment: v1

Femtosecond-fast and nanometre-size pulses of electrons are emerging as unique probes for ultrafast dynamics at the nanoscale. Presently, such pulses are achievable only in highly sophisticated ultrafast electron microscopes or equally complex setups involving few-cycle-pulsed lasers with stable carrier-envelope phase (CEP) and nanotip probes. Here, we show that the generation of femtosecond pulses of nanoscale tunnelling electrons can be achieved in any ultrafast optical laboratory, using any (deep-UV to mid-IR) femtosecond laser in combination with photosensitive asymmetric nanogap (PAN) diodes fabricated via easy-to-scale adhesion lithography. The dominant mechanism producing tunnelling electrons in PANs is strong-field emission, which is easily achievable without CEP locking or external bias voltage. We employ PANs to demonstrate ultrafast nanoscopy of metal-halide perovskite quantum dots immobilised inside a 10-nm Al/Au nanogap and to characterise laser pulses across the entire optical region (266-6700 nm). Short electron pulses in PANs open the way towards scalable on-chip femtosecond electron measurements and novel design approaches for integrated ultrafast sensing nanodevices.

This paper presents a detailed characterization of the positron beam delivered by the Beam Test Facility at Laboratori Nazionali of Frascati to the PADME experiment during Run III, which took place from October to December 2022. It showcases the methodology used to measure the main beam parameters such as the position in space, the absolute momentum scale, the beam energy spread, and its intensity through a combination of data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations. The results achieved include an absolute precision in the momentum of the beam to within $\sim$ 1-2 MeV$/c$, a relative beam energy spread below 0.25\%, and an absolute precision in the intensity of the beam at the level of 2\% percent.

Modern artificial intelligence (AI) systems are powered by foundation models. This paper presents a new set of foundation models, called Llama 3. It is a herd of language models that natively support multilinguality, coding, reasoning, and tool usage. Our largest model is a dense Transformer with 405B parameters and a context window of up to 128K tokens. This paper presents an extensive empirical evaluation of Llama 3. We find that Llama 3 delivers comparable quality to leading language models such as GPT-4 on a plethora of tasks. We publicly release Llama 3, including pre-trained and post-trained versions of the 405B parameter language model and our Llama Guard 3 model for input and output safety. The paper also presents the results of experiments in which we integrate image, video, and speech capabilities into Llama 3 via a compositional approach. We observe this approach performs competitively with the state-of-the-art on image, video, and speech recognition tasks. The resulting models are not yet being broadly released as they are still under development.

In this paper, the physical approach to model external (air-induced) passive intermodulation (PIM) is presented in a frequency-division duplexing (FDD) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with an arbitrary number of transceiver chains. The external PIM is a special case of intermodulation distortion (IMD), mainly generated by metallic objects possessing nonlinear properties ("rusty bolt" effect). Typically, such sources are located in the near-field or transition region of the antenna array. PIM products may fall into the receiver band of the FDD system, negatively affecting the uplink signal. In contrast to other works, this one directly simulates the physical external PIM. The system includes models of a point-source external PIM, a finite-length dipole antenna, a MIMO antenna array, and a baseband multicarrier 5G NR OFDM signal. The Channel coefficients method for multi-PIM-source compensation is replicated to verify the proposed external PIM modelling approach. Simulation results of artificially generated PIM cancellation show similar performance as real-life experiments. Therefore, the proposed approach allows testing PIM compensation algorithms on large systems with many antennas and arbitrary array structures. This eliminates the need for experiments with real hardware at the development stage of the PIM cancellation algorithm.

A \emph{rainbow sub-selection} from several sets refers to choosing at most one element from each set (color). The Helly-number $\max \{d+1, 2(d-k+1)\}$ and the number of colors $d+(d-k)+1$ are optimal. Our key observation is a certain colorful Carath\'eodory-type result for positive bases.

Numerous applications in the extreme field science are possible with circularly polarized high peak power ultrashort pulses. Commonly used quarter wave plates are not applicable here, while multi-mirror schemes are very complicated. We showed that the simple PET film $\approx$20 $\mu$m thick can be used to control the polarization state of the high peak power beam and achieve ellipticity of $\approx$0.8 with negligible nonlinear phase distortion. The film can withstand $10^3$ shots at intensity of $I = 3 \cdot 10^{12}$ W/cm$^2$ without visible damage. Thus, for a PW laser system and beam diameter of 20 cm the PET film can be used for quite a long time. We proved this experimentally using 1 TW femtosecond Ti:Sa laser measuring the angular distribution of the second harmonic from the plasma channel created in an undercritical gas plume.

The labor market is undergoing rapid changes, with increasing demands on job seekers and a surge in job openings. Identifying essential skills and competencies from job descriptions is challenging due to varying employer requirements and the omission of key skills. This study addresses these challenges by comparing traditional Named Entity Recognition (NER) methods based on encoders with Large Language Models (LLMs) for extracting skills from Russian job vacancies. Using a labeled dataset of 4,000 job vacancies for training and 1,472 for testing, the performance of both approaches is evaluated. Results indicate that traditional NER models, especially DeepPavlov RuBERT NER tuned, outperform LLMs across various metrics including accuracy, precision, recall, and inference time. The findings suggest that traditional NER models provide more effective and efficient solutions for skill extraction, enhancing job requirement clarity and aiding job seekers in aligning their qualifications with employer expectations. This research contributes to the field of natural language processing (NLP) and its application in the labor market, particularly in non-English contexts.

The latest result from The ORGAN Experiment, an axion haloscope is presented. This iteration of the experiment operated at millikelvin temperatures using a flux-driven Josephson parametric amplifier (JPA) for reduced noise, along with various other upgrades over previous iterations. Covering the $25.45 - 26.27\,\mu\text{eV}$ ($6.15-6.35$ GHz) mass (frequency) range, this near-quantum limited phase of ORGAN employs a conducting rod resonator and a 7-T solenoidal magnet to place the most sensitive exclusion limits on axion-photon coupling in the range to date, with $|g_{a\gamma\gamma}| \gtrsim 2.8\times10^{-13}$ at a 95% confidence level., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Both magnetism and spin-orbit coupling in systems with broken inversion symmetry lift the spin degeneracy of electronic bands, but the consequences of interplay between these mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we show that ultrathin transition ferromagnet-heavy metal bilayers exhibit anomalous temperature- and electric bias-dependent behaviors in the vicinity of the Curie temperature, inconsistent with the usual Weiss magnetism. Characterization by several complementary techniques and analysis of the dependence on composition reveal that these effects originate from interfacial spin-orbit interaction, which results in the emergence of a state with distinct magnetic and magnetoelectronic properties that can be described as Rashba magnetism. The increasing deployment of AI is shaping the future landscape of the internet, which is set to become an integrated ecosystem of AI agents. Orchestrating the interaction among AI agents necessitates decentralized, self-sustaining mechanisms that harmonize the tension between individual interests and social welfare. In this paper we tackle this challenge by synergizing reinforcement learning with principal-agent theory from economics. Taken separately, the former allows unrealistic freedom of intervention, while the latter struggles to scale in sequential settings. Combining them achieves the best of both worlds. We propose a framework where a principal guides an agent in a Markov Decision Process (MDP) using a series of contracts, which specify payments by the principal based on observable outcomes of the agent's actions. We present and analyze a meta-algorithm that iteratively optimizes the policies of the principal and agent, showing its equivalence to a contraction operator on the principal's Q-function, and its convergence to subgame-perfect equilibrium. We then scale our algorithm with deep Q-learning and analyze its convergence in the presence of approximation error, both theoretically and through experiments with randomly generated binary game-trees. Extending our framework to multiple agents, we apply our methodology to the combinatorial Coin Game. Addressing this multi-agent sequential social dilemma is a promising first step toward scaling our approach to more complex, real-world instances.
