We consider certain fiber bundles over a paraquaternionic contact manifolds, called twistor and reflector spaces, and show that these carry an intrinsic geometric structure that is always integrable.

We establish in the present paper two sub-gradient estimates for the quaternionic contact (qc) heat equation on a compact qc manifold of dimension $4n+3$, provided some positivity conditions are satisfied. These are qc versions of the prominent Li-Yau gradient estimate in Riemannian geometry. Another goal of this paper is to get two Perelman-type entropy formulas for the qc heat equation on a compact qc-Einstein manifold of dimension $4n+3$ with non-negative qc scalar curvature (e.g. compact $3$-Sasakian manifold), as well as an integral sub-gradient estimate for the positive solutions of the qc heat equation., Comment: 18 pages, no figures

We introduce the notion of paraquaternionic contact structures (pqc structures), which turns out to be a generalization of the para 3-Sasakian geometry. We derive a distinguished linear connection preserving the pqc structure. Its torsion tensor is expressed explicitly in terms of the structure tensors and the structure equations of a pqc manifold are presented. We define pqc-Einstein manifolds and show that para 3-Sasakian spaces are precisely pqc manifolds, which are pqc-Einstein. A tensor invariant is defined on a paraquaternionic contact manifold in terms of the curvature and torsion of the canonical paraquaternionic connection involving derivatives up to third order of the contact form. This tensor, called paraquaternionic contact conformal curvature, is similar to the Weyl conformal curvature in Riemannian geometry, the Chern-Moser tensor in CR geometry, the para contact curvature in para CR geometry and to the quaternionic contact conformal curvature in quaternionic contact geometry. Curvature properties of the characteristic connection on an integrable $G_2$ space are investigated. It is proved that an integrable $G_2$ manifold has closed torsion if and only if the Ricci tensor of the characteristic connection is equal to the covariant derivative of the Lee form and in this case the integrable $G_2$ structure is of constant type. It is shown, that a compact integrable $G_2$ manifold with closed torsion is Ricci flat if and only if either the norm of the torsion is constant or the Riemannian scalar curvature is constant. It is observed that any compact integrable $G_2$ manifold with closed torsion 3-form is a generalized gradient Ricci soliton and this is equivalent to a certain vector field to be parallel with respect to the torsion connection. In particular, this vector field is an infinitesimal authomorphism of the $G_2$ strucure. Compact examples with bi-$G_2$ structures or generalized integrable $G_2$ manifolds are given. It is shown that on an integrable $G_2$ space of constant type the curvature of the characteristic connection $R\in S^2\Lambda^2$ with vanishing Ricci tensor if and only if the three-form torsion is parallel with respect to the Levi-Civita and to the characteristic connection simultaneously. In particular, the conditions $R\in S^2\Lambda^2, Ric=0$ are equivalent to the condition that the curvature of the characteristic connection satisfies the Riemannian first Bianchi identity. It is observed that on a compact almost complex Calabi-Yau with torsion 6-manifold the Nijenhuis tensor is parallel with respect to the torsion connection. If the torsion is closed then the space is a compact generalized gradient Ricci soliton. In this case, the torsion connection is Ricci-flat if and only if either the norm of the torsion or the Riemannian scalar curvature is constant. Curvature properties of the characteristic connection on an integrable $G_2$ manifold are investigated. We consider integrable $G_2$ manifold of constant type, i.e. the scalar product of the exterior derivative of the $G_2$ form with its Hodge dual is constant. We show that on an integrable $G_2$ manifold of constant type with $G_2$-instanton characteristic curvature and vanishing Ricci tensor the torsion 3-form is harmonic. Curvature properties of a metric connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion are investigated. It is shown that if either the 3-form $T$ is harmonic, $dT=\delta T=0$ or the curvature of the torsion connection $R\in S^2\Lambda^2$ then the scalar curvature of a $\nabla$-Einstein manifold is determined by the norm of the torsion up to a constant. It is proved that a compact generalized gradient Ricci soliton with closed torsion is Ricci flat if and only if either the norm of the torsion or the Riemannian scalar curvature are constants. In this case the torsion 3-form is harmonic and the gradient function has to be constant. Necessary and sufficient conditions a metric connection with skew torsion to satisfy the Riemannian first Bianchi identity as well as the contracted Riemannian second Binachi identity are presented. We extract a new class of paracontact paracomplex Riemannian manifolds arising from certain cone construction, call it para-Sasaki-like Riemannian manifold and give explicit examples. We define a hyperbolic extension of a paraholomorphic paracomplex Riemannian manifold, which is a local product of two Riemannian spaces with equal dimensions, showing that it is a para-Sasaki-like Riemannian manifold. If the starting paraholomorphic paracomplex Riemannian manifold is complete Einstein with negative scalar curvature then its hyperbolic extension is a complete Einstein para-Sasaki-like Riemannian manifold with negative scalar curvature thus producing new examples of complete Einstein Riemannian manifold with negative scalar curvature., Comment: 15 pages, v2: added completeness of the metric

We show that a connection with skew-symmetric torsion satisfying the Einstein metricity condition exists on an almost contact metric manifold exactly when it is D-homothetic to a cosymplectic manifold. In dimension five, we get that the existence of a connection with skew torsion satisfying the Einstein metricity condition is equivalent to the existence of a Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold and vice versa, any Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold generates a two parametric family of connections with skew torsion satisfying the Einstein metricity condition. Formulas for the curvature and the Ricci tensors of these connections are presented in terms of the Sasaki-Einstein SU(2) structures.

We show that the property of existence of solution to the Strominger system in dimension six is neither open nor closed under holomorphic deformations of the complex structure. These results are obtained both in the case of positive slope parameter as well as in the case of negative slope parameter in the anomaly cancellation equation.

We prove a Bonnet-Myers type theorem for quaternionic contact manifolds of dimension bigger than 7. We show that any compact quaternionic contact (qc) hypersurfaces in a hyper-K\"ahler manifold which is not totally umbilical has an induced qc structure, locally qc homothetic to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere. We also show that any nowhere umbilical qc hypersurface in a hyper-K\"ahler manifold is endowed with an involutive 7-dimensional distribution whose integral leafs are locally qc-conformal to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere.

We prove that any simply connected compact 3-Sasakian manifold, of dimension seven, is formal if and only if its second Betti number is $b_2<2$. In the opposite, we show an example of a 7-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifold, with second Betti number $b_2\geq 2$, which is formal. Therefore, such an example does not admit any 3-Sasakian structure. Examples of 7-dimensional simply connected compact formal Sasakian manifolds, with $b_2\geq 2$, are also given., Comment: 10 pages

We report on some aspects and recent progress in certain problems in the sub-Riemannian CR and quaternionic contact (QC) geometries. The focus are the corresponding Yamabe problems on the round spheres, the Lichnerowicz-Obata first eigenvalue estimates, and the relation between these two problems. A motivation from the Riemannian case highlights new and old ideas which are then developed in the settings of Iwasawa sub-Riemannian geometries.

A complete solution to the quaternionic contact Yamabe equation on the qc sphere of dimension $4n+3$ as well as on the quaternionic Heisenberg group is given. A uniqueness theorem for the qc Yamabe problem in a compact locally 3-Sasakian manifold is shown., Comment: 18 pp, no figure

Connections with (skew-symmetric) torsion on non-symmetric Riemannian manifold satisfying the Einstein metricity condition (NGT with torsion) are considered. It is shown that an almost Hermitian manifold is an NGT with torsion if and only if it is a Nearly K\"ahler manifold. In the case of an almost contact metric manifold the NGT with torsion spaces are characterized and a possibly new class of almost contact metric manifolds is extracted. Similar considerations lead to a definition of a particular classes of almost para-Hermitian and almost paracontact metric manifolds. The conditions are given in terms of the corresponding Nijenhuis tensors and the exterior derivative of the skew-symmetric part of the non-symmetric Riemannian metric., Comment: 19p, no figures

New smooth solutions of the Strominger system with non vanishing flux, non-trivial instanton and non-constant dilaton based on the quaternionic Heisenberg group are constructed. We show that through appropriate contractions the solutions found in the $G_2$-heterotic case converge to the heterotic solutions on 6-dimensional inner non-K\"ahler spaces previously found by the authors and, moreover, to new heterotic solutions with non-constant dilaton in dimension 5. All solutions satisfy the heterotic equations of motion up to the first order of $\alpha^{\prime}$.

We describe explicitly all quaternionic contact hypersurfaces (qc-hypersurfaces) in the flat quaternion space $\Hnn$ and the quaternion projective space. We show that up to a quaternionic affine transformation a qc-hypersurface in $\Hnn$ is contained in one of the three qc-hyperquadrics in $\Hnn$. Moreover, we show that an embedded qc-hypersurface in a hyper-K\"ahler manifold is qc-conformal to a qc-Einstein space and the Riemannian curvature tensor of the ambient hyper-K\"ahler metric is degenerate along the hypersurface.

Conformally compact and complete smooth solutions to the Strominger system with non vanishing flux, non-trivial instanton and non-constant dilaton using the first Pontrjagin form of the (-)-connection} on 6-dimensional non-Kaehler nilmanifold are presented. In the conformally compact case the dilaton is determined by the real slices of the elliptic Weierstrass function. We prove a quaternionic contact versions of the Obata's sphere theorems. We show that if the first positive eigenvalue of the sub-Laplacian on a compact qc manifold of dimension bigger than seven takes the smallest possible value then, up to a homothety of the qc structure, the manifold is qc equivalent to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere. We also give a version of the theorem on non-compact qc manifold which is complete with respect to the associated Riemannian metric using the existence of a function with traceless horizontal Hessian.
