Kesterite materials are among the most promising emerging photovoltaic absorbers, despite the number of challenging issues this technology presents. The use of soft thermal post-deposition treatments (PDT) is key to improving the CdS/kesterite interface quality. Thermal treatments can result in a low-temperature phase transition which affects the optoelectronic properties. In this work, the effects of applied voltage during a full device thermal PDT above the critical temperature of the phase transition are explored. The applied voltage modifies the formation energy and drives in-depth migration of ionized defects, which can generate a shallow doping density gradient (SDDG). Supporting the experimental findings, the effects of an SDDG on the current-voltage curves and the external quantum efficiency are modelled using drift-diffusion calculations. The presence of bulk recombination centers in the modelling is a key aspect to precisely reproduce the experimental results. The SDDG in opposite directions precisely matches the experimental results for opposite voltage polarizations. The effects on the band structure of the device are presented proving this as a promising strategy for improving charge carrier selectivity. In this sense, the results and their thorough physical interpretation will potentially open new perspectives in the field of materials engineering.

Crustose Coralline Algae (CCA) is a well-known settlement inducer for stony corals and, ultimately, recruitment, a vital component for reef growth and resilience. However, potential impacts of diseased CCA on larval settlement are not fully understood, especially on particular coral species. As oceans continue to warm, coral larvae need to be able to respond to settlement cues in elevated temperatures, yet the combined effects of thermal stress and CCA health status on larval behavior is not well known for most coral species. Here we assessed the effect of elevated temperatures and disease on the ability of the CCA Hydrolithon boergesenii to induce settlement of Diploria labyrinthiformis larvae. D. labyrinthiformis planulae were exposed to 4 substrate combinations (healthy CCA, diseased CCA, bare substratum, and bare tissue culture plate) and three temperatures (27.5°C, 29°C, and 31°C). Overall, settlement started earlier and was 1.5-3x higher at 31°C, regardless of CCA health status, but at this temperature, larval mortality increased two-fold in diseased CCA. Settlement differences between healthy and diseased H. boergesenii were only observed at 29°C, with healthy CCA facilitating twice as much settlement and having 3x lower mortality than diseased. Our findings suggest that, even though larvae can settle in both healthy and diseased CCA, temperature plays an important role in whether larvae will settle or perish. This study highlights the importance of healthy CCA to maintain and increase settlement and the ability of larvae to adapt to a warming ocean, contributing to the knowledge of D. labyrinthiformis larval ecology, valuable for larval rearing for restoration purposes.

IntroductionA mental health peer support program was implemented at two reference institutions in Central Catalonia. The program culturally and contextually adapted successful international projects by training people with experience of mental health problems and ensuring their employment in multidisciplinary health care teams. This study explores the influence of peer interventions in mental health on the three groups of participants: peer support workers, service users, and mental health professionals.MethodsA mixed observational method design included pre-, inter-, and post-experimental components and a qualitative description of the impact. The triangulation of the qualitative and quantitative findings showed its coherence and facilitated the understanding of the results. Outcomes and measures were as follows: self-stigma (Self-Stigma Questionnaire); life satisfaction (Scale of Satisfaction with Life); participation in relevant activities (Engagement in Meaningful Activities Survey); personal recovery (Scale-revised Recovery Assessment); occupational performance (Canadian Occupational Performance Measure); and attitudes toward mental illness (Community Attitudes toward Mental Illness).ResultsThe program showed beneficial effects on peer support workers' (PSW) perceptions of occupational performance, specifically on the ability to find work (p = 0.038), work as a peer support worker (p = 0.016), give to the community (p = 0.011), and satisfaction in the ability to find work (p = 0.031). The assessment made by the three groups of participants was very positive: the PSWs showed an increase in self-esteem and a feeling of usefulness; users of the service described the experience as a source of hope and optimism in their recovery process; and professionals described the program as a positive step in their professional growth.DiscussionThe peer-to-peer strategy is a source of hope in the personal recovery process, providing meaning to life for the PSWs while providing an extra source of support to service users in their process of personal recovery. The results offer us lines of improvement for future implementations. PSW's final emphasis has us reflecting on improvements to enhance their own wellness in mental health care services. The findings show the importance of working on life projects and their impact on the recovery process.

Background Deficits in jumping to conclusions and social cognition have been described in people with schizophrenia. The aims of the study are to relate jumping to conclusions with social cognition and other cognitive biases in people with schizophrenia attended in rehabilitation services. Methods A descriptive study was performed. The subjects of our study were persons from 18 to 65 years old, attended in rehabilitation services, with schizophrenia diagnoses and other diagnoses with presence of psychotic symptoms (depression, bipolar disorder, borderline disorder, delusional disease, schizoaffective, and schizotypal personality). The variables included were JTC considered three beads tasks with different proportions: 85:15%, 60:40% and 60:40% salient task. Moreover, cognitive insight (BCIS), attributional style (IPSAQ), and Hinting Task -Theory of Mind (ToM) were assessed. A T student analysis was done in order to compare JTC with the rest of the quantitative variables. Results People who jump to conclusions in the salient task scored higher in self-certainty BCIS (p=0.028), in self attribution for negative events (p=0.036) and lower in attribution to other people of negative events (p=0.028). A tendency was found between the presence of JTC and ToM (p=0.051). In the task of 85-15 only a tendency was found between presence of JTC and higher scores in the personalizing bias (p=0.079). Moreover, in the task of 60:40 a tendency was found between presence of JTC and worse performance in the ToM test (p=0.051). Discussion We found a relationship between jumping to conclusions and self-certainty and self-attributions for negative events; as well as, it is a tendency that higher jumping to conclusions is related with worst ToM. There are important clinic implications of this, because we know that jumping to conclusions and theory of mind is related with the formation and maintenance of delusions.

In an era of coral reef decline, coral restoration is receiving increasing attention, with many recent developments in culture and transplant techniques. However, how the ecological processes operating on coral reefs influence the success of restoration efforts remains largely unexplored, particularly during the first months after outplanting which are considered crucial for colony survival. Herbivory is a key process well-known to maintain a coral-dominated state, and in the Caribbean Sea, the long-spine urchin Diadema antillarum is thought to aid coral success by removing algae from seafloor substrate that might otherwise outcompete coral outplants. In this study, we conducted a three-month manipulative experiment in southeastern Dominican Republic to test the effect of Diadema antillarum density on percent living tissue and growth rate of outplanted fragments of the critically endangered coral species Acropora cervicornis . Increasing herbivore density had no significant effect on coral survival or growth but did increase the percent of living tissue when urchin abundance was 3× ambient levels. The greatest growth and survival outcomes were instead related to the initial size of the outplanted coral and were reduced through predation by the fireworm Hermodice carunculata . Our results highlight the potential importance of considering ecological processes like herbivory and predation to maximize the success of ecological restoration .

As the concept of recovery has expanded, and become embedded in drug and alcohol policy, so too has the proliferation of online recovery support. This article explores data from the UK Life in Recovery survey, focusing on online recovery methods categorized as online groups, websites, and smartphone applications. Although 301 people (39.30%) reported involvement with at least one online recovery method, chi-squared tests reveal significant associations between people in stable recovery (5 years or more) and the use of recovery applications (Cramer’s V = .114), as well as between people in full-time employment and the use of online recovery websites or recovery applications. Having dependent children was not associated with use of any online recovery method, yet gender was (Cramer’s V = .088). This study extends the relatively limited literature and knowledge base of online recovery methods. Although the evidence points to higher engagement of recovery websites and apps for people in stable recovery, encouraging online recovery methods for individuals in early recovery may support recovery efforts when the risk of returning to substance misuse and active using social networks remains high. Further research should investigate the mechanisms of recovery change, with a focus on gender differences.

In recent years, there has been recognition that recovery is a journey that involves the growth of recovery capital. Thus, recovery capital has become a commonly used term in addiction treatment and research yet its operationalization and measurement has been limited. Due to these limitations, there is little understanding of long-term recovery pathways and their clinical application. We used the data of 546 participants from eight different recovery residences spread across Florida, USA. We calculated internal consistency for recovery capital and wellbeing, then assessed their factor structure via confirmatory factor analysis. The relationships between time, recovery barriers and strengths, wellbeing and recovery capital, as well as the moderating effect of gender, were estimated using structural equations modelling.
