An in-depth analysis was carried out of rhetorical approaches to the translation of the speech of King Abdullah bin Hussein of Jordan in order to identify social and humanitarian values in his speeches. The relevance of the research lies in emphasizing the importance of preserving authenticity in translation, taking into account cultural and ideological aspects, as well as the role of critical analysis of the discursive approach in understanding and transmitting values. The analysis methodology chosen by the authors of the study is complex and includes Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), structural linguistic and rhetorical analysis, as well as comparative analysis of translations from Arabic into English. The methodology is applied in three stages: the selection of the corpus, analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of translations. The empirical basis of the study was five texts of speeches by King Abdullah II, reflecting the social and humanitarian values of the reigning monarch. The results of the analysis reflect the humanistic orientation of the original texts, preserving concepts such as justice, responsibility, hope, solidarity, despite the fact that sometimes there is a discrepancy from the exact correspondence to the original. The authors of the article emphasize that despite this, the translations convey the monarch’s basic ideas about the importance of a world without violence, solidarity, justice and responsibility. The researchers emphasize the need to take into account cultural and ideological factors in translation in order to convey a more accurate meaning and an appropriate image of King Abdullah bin Hussein of Jordan.

Abstract Background Coxiella burnetii is the etiological agent of Q fever in humans, a zoonosis of increasingly important public health concern. The disease results in significant economic losses to livestock farmers and its presence in ready-to-eat dairy products poses a public health threat to consumers. Aim This study aimed to detect Coxiella burnetii in dairy products in Kwara State, Nigeria. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed to estimate the apparent and true prevalence of C. burnetii in dairy cattle in selected local government areas (LGAs) of Kwara State, Nigeria. A total of 51 traditional Fulani transhumance farms were sampled across three regions: 27 farms in Ifelodun LGA, 9 in Ilorin East LGA, and 15 in Moro LGA. Four pooled milk samples were collected aseptically from lactating cows on each farm, totaling 204 milk samples. We screened the pathogen using real-time PCR that targeted the IS1111 element in the 51 pooled raw milk samples from selected farms and 18 cheese samples from rural markets within the study area. Results The overall apparent prevalence of C. burnetii in milk and cheese was 18.8%. Both dairy products showed similar prevalence with a relatively higher positivity rate in cheese (22.2%, n = 4/18) than in raw milk samples (17.6%, n = 9/51). The development of effective and innovative vaccination strategies is urgently needed to better control the spread and transmission of the low-pathogenic avian influenza H9N2 subtype (LPAI-H9N2) in poultry. In addition, the enhancement of innate immunity by some of these innovative inactivated vaccines has not yet been investigated. Here, an experiment was conducted in commercial broiler chickens to compare the immune response to two different inactivated H9N2 vaccines. For this, Group 1 (G1) broilers were vaccinated with vaccine 1 [Nobilis® H9N2-P (pathogen-associated molecular patterns—PAMP) technology], broilers in G2 were vaccinated with vaccine 2 [an inactivated whole H9N2 virus (IWV) autogenous oil emulsion vaccine], while birds in G3 were not vaccinated. The study lasted 34 days. Innate immune parameters (phagocytic activity, nitric oxide, and lysozyme), cytokine signaling (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8), humoral immunity using the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test, and the gene expressions of IFN-γ and TLR-21 were assessed. The results showed a significant increase in innate immunity and modulatory cytokines at 24–48 h after the vaccination of G1 broilers, with a continuous increase until the end of the experiment. In addition, a significant increase in geometric mean HI titers was observed in G1 at 11 days post-vaccination (dpv), and a significant (p ˂ 0.05) upregulation of IFN-γ and TLR-21 was observed in the same group, G1, at 31 dpv compared to G2 and G3. Nobilis® H9N2-P may induce faster and stronger innate and active humoral immunity compared to another IWV, which may contribute to the protection of broilers against early H9N2 infections. However, challenge protection studies for several IWV vaccines, including PAMP-H9N2 against LPAI-H9N2, should be further evaluated in both specific pathogen-free (SPF) and commercial broilers.

Abstract Background Psychological distress has significantly impacted students in Egypt and Jordan. These countries have faced many challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the fallout from the conflict in Syria, and the war in Ukraine. These crises have had far-reaching consequences, affecting the economy, food security, and energy supplies, particularly with the increased number of refugees in these countries. Amid these existing complexities, the ongoing war in Gaza further exacerbates the situation, compounding mental health challenges. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze how the war in Gaza impacted the mental health of students in Egypt and Jordan. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study involving students from Egypt and Jordan between December 2023 and January 2024. The questionnaire incorporated the Brief Symptom Inventory 18 (BSI-18) to assess the overall general distress score, as well as the domains of anxiety, somatization, and depression. Results A total of 1509 Jordanian and Egyptian students were included in the study, of which 66% were female. Approximately 18% of the students had an elevation (≥ 50) in their BSI-18 total score. Abstract In this study, the chemoselective synthesis of two new thiophene derivatives is presented. The structure of newly synthesized thiophenes derivatives; ethyl 4-acetyl-3-phenyl-5-(phenylamino)thiophene-2-carboxylate (5) and ethyl (E)-4-(3-(dimethylamino)acryloyl)-3-phenyl-5-(phenylamino)thiophene-2-carboxylate (8) were established using different FTIR and NMR spectral analyses. Compound 8 was isolated as single crystal and its 3D structure was determined using X-ray crystallographic analysis. Possible intermolecular interactions that control the molecular packing of 8 were elucidated using Hirshfeld topology analysis. The O…H (13.7%), H…H (55.3%) and C…C (2.3%) intermolecular interactions are the most significant. Fukui functions showed that C4 in thiophene 5 and C3 in thiophene 8 are the most reactive atoms for nucleophilic attack, while N9 in thiophene 5 and C1 in thiophene 8 are the most reactive atoms for electrophilic attack. Antitumor activity of thiophene 5 was assessed and the results showed higher activity against HepG-2 (7.46 µg/mL) compared to the HCT 116 (12.60 µg/mL) cell line.

Abstract A novel series of six [1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-a]isoquinolin-3-yl)-3-(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)prop-2-en-1-ones (3a–3f) was designed and synthesized. They were characterized based on spectral and elemental analyses. In silico studies were also committed to provide insights and a better understanding of their structural features. The six compounds were screened for their antiproliferative activity using the MTT assay against five human cancer cell lines, namely, A549, HCT116, PC3, HT29, and MCF-7 in parallel with the non-cancerous human lung cell line WI-38. The results showed that 3e and 3f have potential cytotoxic activities, especially on A549 cells with IC50 = 2.3 µM and 1.15 µM, respectively. Meanwhile, they recorded a minimal cytotoxic effect on WI-38 cells. Concerning the molecular mechanism of action, the present study showed the inhibitory effect of the six compounds against total EGFR. The most potent EGFR inhibitors were 3e and 3f with IC50 = 0.031 µM and 0.023 µM, respectively. The selectivity index of 3f for EGFRT790M was 1.81 times more selective than that of lapatinib. In addition, 3e and 3f initiated cell cycle arrest at the G2/M and pre-G1 phases along with the downregulation of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl2 and the upregulation of pro-apoptotic proteins: p53, Bax, and caspases 3, 8, and 9. Further studies are recommended to evaluate animal models’ promising anticancer activity and molecular mechanism of triazolo[3,4-a]isoquinoline derivatives 3e and 3f.

BackgroundComplications of diabetes and its associated comorbidities can cause rapid progression of type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It comes at high costs and affects a patient’s quality of life. We aim to assess T2DM in KSA, including the demographics, medications, complications, and comorbidities, as it remains an integral part of Vision 2030.MethodsObservational retrospective study was designed spanning five administrative regions of KSA. A total of 638 patients’ records were randomly selected from general hospitals and diabetes centers from 2017 to 2020, and the collected were statistically analyzed.ResultsMost (77%) selected patients had uncontrolled diabetes, showing a statistically significant correlation between regions and diabetes control. The Northern, Central, and Southern regions had the highest uncontrolled percentage with less than 20% control, while Western and Eastern regions’ control percentages were around 40% of subjects. Eighty percent of the uncontrolled BP patients had uncontrolled diabetes contrasting the 68% of the BP-controlled patients. Biguanides, DPP-4 inhibitors, GLP-1 agonists, Insulin, and SGLT-2 inhibitors are the most common diabetes medications. Metformin was the most prescribed in all regions, followed by DPP4. Results showed that patients used one to four non-diabetes drugs on average. Dispensing of vitamin B complex and statins were higher in diabetes centers than in hospitals. Retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy were the most common complications, while hypertension and ASCVD were the most common comorbidities.ConclusionResults showed a poor glycemic control situation in the kingdom that necessitates implementing stricter measures to hinder disease progression and reduce complications and comorbidities. Increasing awareness, training, and monitoring programs with larger sample sizes and broader distribution is highly recommended nationally.

Abstract A novel series of 2-cyano-3-(pyrazol-4-yl)-N-(thiazol-2-yl)acrylamide derivatives (3a–f) were synthesized using Knoevenagel condensation and characterized using various spectral tools. The weak nuclease activity of compounds (3a–f) against pBR322 plasmid DNA was greatly enhanced by irradiation at 365 nm. Compounds 3b and 3c, incorporating thienyl and pyridyl moieties, respectively, exhibited the utmost nuclease activity in degrading pBR322 plasmid DNA through singlet oxygen and superoxide free radicals’ species. Furthermore, compounds 3b and 3c affinities towards calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated using UV–Vis and fluorescence spectroscopic analysis. They revealed good binding characteristics towards CT-DNA with Kb values of 6.68 × 104 M−1 and 1.19 × 104 M−1 for 3b and 3c, respectively. In addition, compounds 3b and 3c ability to release free radicals on radiation were targeted to be used as cytotoxic compounds in vitro for colon (HCT116) and breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) cells. A significant reduction in the cell viability on illumination at 365 nm was observed, with IC50 values of 23 and 25 µM against HCT116 cells, and 30 and 9 µM against MDA-MB-231 cells for compounds 3b and 3c, respectively. In conclusion, compounds 3b and 3c exhibited remarkable DNA cleavage and cytotoxic activity on illumination at 365 nm which might be associated with free radicals’ production in addition to having a good affinity for interacting with CT-DNA and BSA. The widespread spread of electric vehicles requires the establishment of charging stations (EVCSs), and this is considered a large load on the network. This gives priority to distributing the stations in a way that reduces the load on the network, and in parallel, re-planning the network and supplying it with the necessary energy to maintain energy efficiency and power quality. Total energy loss minimization, voltage deviation minimization, and voltage stability index improvement are the considered power quality indices in the multi-objective function. Vehicle to grid (V2G) feature, distributed generation units (DG), and capacitor banks are used for improving system performance, by injecting the required active and reactive power. In addition, the initial and running costs of V2G, DG units, and capacitor banks are considered in the multi-objective function. The optimal sizing and allocation of charging stations, V2G, DG units, and capacitor banks are performed using a proposed Self-Adaptive Multi-Population Elitist JAYA (SAMPE-JAYA) algorithm and checked using the genetic algorithm (GA). The proposed algorithm is tested using various scenarios, two standard IEEE test systems. To emphasize the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed algorithm, it is applied on a real-world distribution system. To accommodate the optimal allocation of EVCS, which constitute 80.7 % and 78.9 % of the base active load for the IEEE 33 and 69 bus systems, respectively. Integrating DG amounting to 17.35 % and 18.25 % of the base load is necessary. Additionally, capacitor banks, contributing 36.84 % and 31.166 % of the reactive power load, are also required for effective voltage support and system reliability in each respective case.

Cancer remains a significant global health concern, and understanding factors that regulate cancer development is important. The microbiome, with its potential role in cancer development, progression, and treatment, has garnered increasing attention in recent years. The cervicovaginal and gastrointestinal microbiomes in females constitute complex biological ecosystems. Although the gut microbiome has been extensively studied, little is known about the cervicovaginal microbiome. The microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining local microenvironments and tissue homeostasis, but dysbiosis can disrupt this fine balance and contribute to pathological ramifications leading to cancer. This review explores the current understanding of the microbiome’s correlation with gynecological cancers and highlights the potential of microbiome-based interventions to improve outcomes in these cancers. In addition, this review underscores the gaps and limitations in the literature, such as findings in specific ethnicities compared with understudied ethnicities. In addition, discrepancies in molecular techniques and terminology (microbiome vs. microbiota) used in the literature are addressed. Emerging evidence linking gynecological cancers and dysbiosis underscores microbiota as a potential target for cancer prevention and therapy. Manipulating the microbiome, such as through the use of probiotics, prebiotics, antibiotics, or vaginal and fecal transplantation, has demonstrated benefits in the treatment of chronic and inflammatory conditions. Further translational research in this field is needed to integrate the benefits of beneficial microorganisms in the fight against gynecological cancers.

Africa remains a battlefield for the emergence and re-emergence of deadly aetiologies including the Lassa fever virus from 1969, Monkey pox (mpox) virus from 1970, and Ebola virus from 1976 till date, among others. With the recent index case of mpox following rapid spread from Africa to different continents, a critical appraisal of the disease to x-ray its dynamics in Africa is warranted. This study integrated a mix of scoping and systematic reviews to converse the epidemiology and biosecurity/environmental issues from one health perspective. Our scoping review used major scientific databases based on their relevance and reliability, while the PROSPERO-registered systematic review followed the PRISMA guidelines. Phylogeny analysis was performed to compare recent outbreaks of mpox with the existing genotypic information. The genetic analysis focused on the H3L gene that codes for envelope proteins involved in viral attachment. Transmission of mpox virus was reported mainly in four routes. Animals implicated include monkeys, squirrels, and pigs. Risk factors include age, gender, occupation, climate, travel, political instability, and vaccination status. Different circulating strains were reported with eight-point mutations found to occur in Africa. Observed clustering within the predominant West African (WA) clade and the recent outbreak strains corroborate the reports of WA clade in other non-African and non-endemic countries. Viral adaptation in the WA clade enhanced person-to-person transmissibility, spreading to over 100 countries. Hence, there is need to address Mpox host-associated physiological and biochemical changes, the development of Mpox virus-specific diagnostic kits and vaccines, and studies on the disease's socio-ecological, economic and psychological consequences.

Background and objectives. This study explores the impact of plasma exchange therapy (TPE) on muscle strength and functional outcomes in patients with acute immune-mediated neuropathy. Materials and methods. We retrospectively analyzed clinical data from patients diagnosed with acute immune-mediated neuropathy at the Department of Neurology, Bolan University of Medical Sciences, Baluchistan, from January 2016 to December 2021. Results. The study, comprising 141 patients with various neurological disorders, underscores the efficacy of plasma exchange therapy in improving muscle strength and functional outcomes, particularly in Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Notably, after four weeks of treatment, a significant proportion of patients demonstrated improved mobility, with 51.8% able to walk without assistance. However, despite the positive response to therapy, a small percentage (2.8%) experienced unfavorable outcomes marked by expiration. The synthesis of sulfa drugs has received extensive interest from researchers for their broad spectrum of biological activities. In this context, N-Carbamimidoyl-4-((5,5-dimethyl-3-oxocyclohex-1-en-1-yl)amino)benzenesulfonamide 3 was readily prepared and its Michael addition reactions towards activated cinnamonitriles were studied as a route to 4-(2-amino-3-cyano-4-aryl-tetrahydroquinolin-1-yl)-N-carbamimidoylbenzenesulfonamide derivatives 8a-d. Moreover, N-(4-(N-carbamimidoylsulfamoyl)phenyl)-2-cyanoacetamide 13 was prepared and employed as a precursor for the synthesis of 4-(6-amino-3,5-dicyano-2-oxo-4-arylpyridin-1-yl)-N-carbamimidoylbenzenesulfonamide derivatives 17a-e. Green synthesis of the targeted products was done in water in the presence of chitosan as a green catalyst and gave considerably higher yields as compared to conducting reactions in ethanol in presence of non-benign piperidine catalyst. The chemical constitution of all newly synthesized compounds was confirmed by the different spectral tools.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a prevalent mental condition characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions), significantly disrupting daily functioning and social interactions. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) presents a promising non-invasive treatment modality aimed at alleviating symptoms. However, the evidence regarding its effectiveness remains inconclusive. This study seeks to address this gap by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials, offering improved guidance for clinical intervention. A comprehensive search strategy was implemented across multiple databases, including PubMed, Cochrane CENTRAL, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science. This search focused strictly on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 147 patients. These trials evaluated the efficacy of tDCS in OCD patients. Subsequent data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and statistical analysis using Review Manager software revealed the potential efficacy of tDCS in reducing OCD symptoms. The meta-analysis not only fails to demonstrate significant superiority of active tDCS over sham tDCS but also suggests that sham tDCS may be more effective than active tDCS in reducing OCD symptoms. This finding diminishes the promise of tDCS as an effective treatment for OCD. Larger trials are warranted to further elucidate these findings.

Key Clinical Message Anderson‐Fabry disease, a rare X‐linked lysosomal disorder, and congenital dyserythropoietic anemia (CDA) Type II, an autosomal recessive condition, both have distinct inheritance patterns. Their co‐occurrence is extremely rare, never been reported before. Therefore, screening is crucial for early management, and families should seek genetic counseling for children showing unusual presentations. Abstract Anderson‐Fabry disease (AFD) is a rare condition, characterized by a lysosomal storage disorder affecting lipid storage. It manifests in two forms: classic (early‐onset) and nonclassic (late‐onset). Conversely, congenital dyserythropoietic anemia (CDA) is a rare blood disorder caused by ineffective erythropoiesis, which results in the production of abnormal erythroblasts during the maturation of red blood cells, with CDA type II being the most frequent type. Both disorders have well‐understood pathophysiologies, yet they are genetically distinct. AFD is inherited in an X‐linked manner, whereas CDA type II follows an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance. Although both AFD and CDA type II have been reported separately in the literature. The co‐existence for both AFD and CDA type II has not been reported. We describe a 10‐year‐old boy, with both which is believed to be the first documented case.

Currently, pollution caused by petroleum products remains a critical concern. Among the various methods employed, bioremediation is the most widely utilized technique to address this issue. To implement this technique, we must continue to research and identify strains of microorganisms capable of degrading these pollutants. Thus, this study aimed to identify and test the biodegradation capacity of two bacterial strains. For this, morphological and biochemical characterization was done using standard methods. Then, a genetic characterization was performed by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene. The biodegradation capacity of the strains was determined according to the gravimetric method. All the morphological, biochemical and genetic characteristics obtained showed that the S2 and S7 strains belong to Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa species, respectively. The biodegradation study showed that the two strains could degrade the substrates tested (diesel, SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) 40 and SAE 50 used oils). It also revealed that the combination of strains degrades the tested products better than those used alone. Bacterial infections are a global issue, causing sickness and death, mainly in developing nations. Resistance to current medicines is a significant issue in healthcare. Overcoming the resistance problem will necessitate the development of molecules with novel modes of action that do not cross-react with existing medicines. Synthesis of new bis-heterocycles linked to the piperazine core and vanillin unit is disclosed in this regard. The target compounds were produced via the reaction of 4,4′-((piperazine-1,4-diylbis(2-oxoethane-2,1-diyl))bis(oxy))bis(3-methoxybenzaldehyde) with various reagents using the Hantzsch, Biginelli, and Michael’s reactions. All the generated compounds were tested for their antibacterial activity against a variety of bacterial strains. The antibacterial activity evaluations revealed that compound 32 has the most promising activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa (19.5 ± 0.7 mm) compared to Ofloxacin (17 mm) with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) equaled to 625 µg/mL. A molecular docking investigation revealed that compound 32 had the greatest binding affinity for bacterial enoyl reductase (−36.13 ± 0.2 Kcal/mole) when compared to the co-crystallized ligand (−16.8 ± 0 Kcal/mole).

Synthesis of analogs of known active compounds is the most often employed strategy for producing important compounds. The Hantzsch reaction was employed to create new star-shaped compounds with a pentaerythritol core connected to thiazoles, hexahydroacridinediones, decahydropyrimido[4,5-b]quinolones, and tetrahydro[1,2,4]triazolo[5,1-b]quinazoline in this study. The flexible precursor was 4′-((2,2-bis((4-formylphenoxy)methyl)propane-1,3-diyl)bis(oxy))dibenzaldehyde. Under milder reaction conditions, the target compounds were produced with high yields as well as shorter reaction times. The structures of the new compounds were established using elemental analysis and spectral data.

Abstract The primary site of metastasis for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the peritoneum, and it occurs through a multistep process that begins with adhesive contacts between cancer cells and mesothelial cells. Despite evidence that Notch signaling has a role in ovarian cancer, it is unclear how exactly it contributes to ovarian cancer omental metastasis, as well as the cellular dynamics and intrinsic pathways that drive this tropism. Here we show that tumor cells produced the Notch ligand Jagged2 is a clinically and functionally critical mediator of ovarian cancer omental metastasis by activating the Notch signaling in single-layered omental mesothelial cells. In turn, Jagged2 promotes tumor growth and therapeutic resistance by stimulating IL-6 release from mesothelial cells. Additionally, Jagged2 is a potent downstream mediator of the omental metastasis cytokine TGF-β that is released during omental destruction. Importantly, therapeutic inhibition of Jagged2-mediated omental metastasis was significantly improved by directly disrupting the Notch pathway in omental mesothelial cells. These findings highlight the key role of Jagged2 to the functional interplay between the TGF-β and the Notch signaling pathways during the metastatic process of ovarian cancer cells to the omentum and identify the Notch signaling molecule as a precision therapeutic target for ovarian cancer metastasis.

Abstract Nanoengineered chitosan functionalized titanium dioxide biohybrids (CTiO2@NPs) were prepared with Amomum subulatum Roxb extract via one-pot green method and assessed by UV–Vis spectroscopy, XRD, SEM and EDAX analyses. As revealed by XRD pattern, the nanohybrids exhibits a rutile TiO2 crystallites around 45 nm in size. The emergence of the Ti–O–Ti bond is identified by observing a peak between 400 and 800 cm−1. A wide bandgap (4.8 eV) has been observed in CTiO2@NPs, due to the quantum confinement effects and the oxygen vacancies reveal the intriguing potential of developed nanohybrids for various applications. Surface flaws were identified by observing an emission band at 382, 437, 482, 517, and 556 nm. They also exhibit better antibacterial performances using well diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus substilis, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Escherichia coli. CTiO2@NPs were discovered to have free radical scavenging activity on DPPH analysis and exhibit IC50 value as 95.80 μg/mL and standard (Vitamin C) IC50 is 87.62 μg/mL. CTiO2@NPs exhibited better anticancer properties against the osteosarcoma (MG-63) cell line. All these findings suggest that there is a forum for further useful therapeutic applications. Therefore, we claim that nano-engineered carbohydrated TiO2 phytohybrid is a promising solution for bacterial infections and bone cancer.

Background. The problem of mineral deficiency is solved by introducing the main types of fertilizers into the soil: nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. But at present, it is firmly established that sulfur is another most demanded macronutrient - an important element of plant nutrition, which improves the absorption of nitrogen compounds by agricultural crops and ensures its high quality. The article presents the results of pre-sowing and foliar treatment with sulfur nanoparticles on the yield and grain quality of soft spring wheat at various stages of growth. Purpose. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of presowing and foliar treatment with sulfur nanoparticles on the yield and grain quality of soft spring wheat of the Ekada variety at various stages of growth. Materials and methods. As a source of sulfur nanoparticles, a preparation based on calcium polysulfide was used, which, diluted to a concentration of 2%, leads to obtaining sulfur hydrosol. The sulfur particle sizes were determined using a laser particle size analyzer and a probe microscope, and the X-ray phase analysis was carried out on a diffractometer. We used soft spring wheat "Ekada 70", the characteristics of which were determined using laboratory and field experiments, which were carried out according to a completely randomized block scheme with three repetitions. Results. It was found that the treatment of wheat with sulfur nanoparticles at all stages of growth led to an improvement in the main indicators of wheat, including a higher yield and an increase in the protein content in wheat grain. Conclusion. Laboratory and field tests have shown that the treatment of soft wheat with a calcium polysulfide preparation has a positive effect on all key characteristics, from germination and number of productive stems to yield and protein content. The drug can be recommended for use as an environmentally friendly product that stimulates plant growth and increases the yield and quality of wheat.

This study examines the potential of natural biostimulants to mitigate environmental stress and enhance growth, yield, and quality in eggplant (Solanum melongena L., cv. Black Beauty) grown in loamy sand soil. Eggplants were treated with foliar applications of ascorbic acid (AA) at 300 mg/L, chitosan (Ch) at 200 mg/L, and moringa oil (MO) at 1000 mg/L as natural biostimulants. Results indicated significant increases in plant height, branch number, leaf chlorophyll content, fruit count, and total yield per feddan (0.42 ha) with the AA, Ch, and MO treatments compared to untreated controls. Treated plants also displayed enhanced fruit characteristics, including increased weight, diameter, length, and size. Biochemical analyses revealed elevated levels of fruit dry matter, ascorbic acid content, total phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant activity. Untreated plants, in contrast, showed significantly lower values across all measured parameters, indicating higher susceptibility to environmental stressors and reduced growth and fruit quality. These findings underscore the effectiveness of AA, Ch, and MO as biostimulants in enhancing eggplant growth, yield, and fruit quality under loamy sand conditions. Furthermore, the use of biostimulants could be extended to other crops, offering a sustainable approach to improving food security and sustainability in agricultural practices.

This report presents a rare case of a 19-year-old male with bilateral periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH), a congenital brain abnormality resulting from failed neural cell migration, along with an intra-axial pontine lesion of unknown pathology.The differential diagnosis of childhood brainstem tumors in such cases commonly includes diffuse midline glioma (DMG), which is associated with a dismal prognosis due to H3 K27 gene mutation. However, this case exhibits a unique focal dorsal exophytic brainstem glioma variant, accounting for only a small percentage (approximately 10 %) of pontine tumors and carrying a more favorable prognosis. The lesion is suspected to be a pilocytic astrocytoma, presenting distinct neurological symptoms. In this case, the patient presented with symptoms include mainly occasional tonic-clonic seizures, right side mild spasticity with ataxic gait and right eye blurring of vision along with right side facial palsy. The patient's clinical evaluation, in conjunction with various medical diagnostic tests and MRI with and without contrast, led to the final diagnosis. Management began with anti-epileptic medication, with a plan for further treatment and follow-up.

The reaction of sulfamethoxazolehydrazonoyl chloride with thiosemicarbazones, bis-thiosemicarbazones, or 4-amino-3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole in dioxane in the presence of triethylamine as a basic catalyst at reflux resulted in the regioselective synthesis of thiazoles and bis-thiazoles linked to azo-sulfamethoxazole as novel hybrid molecules. The structures of the new compounds were confirmed using a range of spectra. Each compound's antibacterial properties were evaluated using the agar well-diffusion technique, and most of them demonstrated significant potency. In silico investigations revealed that the described compounds had strong interactions with the binding sites of MurE ligase, tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase, and dihydropteroate synthase, demonstrating inhibitory activity.

This paper presents a case study of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria, whose traditional ethnoveterinary practices risk being lost as the country transitions to more intensive and enclosed livestock practices. We use a planetary health framing to make visible the value of indigenous practices that are less damaging to the environment, animal welfare, and human health. Through ethnographic observation, focus group discussions (FGDs), and key stakeholder interviews, we show that the Fulani use a complex system of herbal medicines and traditional herding practices to maintain herd health, and to manage and treat animal disease when it arises. However, their traditions often sit uncomfortably with commercial farming practices. As traditional Fulani grazing lands are eroded, dispossessed Fulani take employment from businessmen farmers. Both parties’ inexperience with shed hygiene, artificial feed, and less environmentally resilient crossbreeds leads to an increased incidence of infectious disease. This, in turn, drives the higher use of antibiotics. There is, thus, a ‘causal chain’ of underlying drivers that lead, through poorer environmental, animal, and human health, to the increased use of antibiotics. The antibiotic resistance that emerges from this chain threatens human health now and in the future. Through a planetary health framing, we advocate for a deeper understanding of the knowledge held by Fulani herdsmen and their traditional ethnoveterinary practices as an alternative to increasing antibiotic use (ABU).

In this investigation, we examined the impact of employing simple random sampling on the stratification points pertaining to the two independent variables. The study focused on a variable (X) exhibiting a robust correlation, and we employed a combination of ratio and product estimators to select a representative sample and establish the population mean. By maintaining a comprehensive superpopulation framework, we successfully identified concise equations that effectively reduced the overall variability within the dataset. To reveal the underlying nature of these mathematical derivations, we employed the cumulative cube roots rule to determine nearly optimal stratification points for the two research variables. The validity of this suggested rule was assessed through rigorous testing utilizing empirical and simulated data obtained from diverse distributions.

Abstract A novel series of α-cyano indolylchalcones was prepared, and their chemical structures were confirmed based on the different spectral data. Among them, compound 7f was observed to be the most effective bioactive chalcone with distinguished potency and selectivity against colorectal carcinoma (HCT116) with IC50 value (6.76 µg/mL) relative to the positive control (5 FU) (77.15 µg/mL). In a preliminary action study, the acrylonitrile chalcone 7f was found to enhance apoptotic action via different mechanisms like inhibition of some anti-apoptotic protein expression, regulation of some apoptotic proteins, production of caspases, and cell cycle arrest. All mechanisms suggested that compound 7f could act as a professional chemotherapeutic agent. Also, a molecular docking study was achieved on some selected proteins implicated in cancer (Caspase 9, XIAP, P53 mutant Y220C, and MDM2) which showed variable interactions with compound 7f with good Gibbs free energy scores.

Many researchers are focusing on screening the biological activities of plants owing to their safety and possible pharmacological actions. Consequently, we aimed to explore the antiproliferative and cytotoxic properties of Cycas media methanolic extract on HepG2 cell lines. Moreover, we also explore the antitumor action against the experimentally induced solid Ehrlich carcinoma (SEC) model and investigate the possible involved molecular mechanisms. Also, the antibacterial action of the extract was elucidated. Different concentrations of the extract were incubated with HepG2 to determine cytotoxicity, followed by cell cycle analysis. The in vivo experiment was accomplished by grouping the animals into four different groups (n = 10); normal control, SEC, C. media 100, and C. media 200. The extract was administered at 100 and 200 mg/kg. Tumor volume, tumor inhibition rate, toxicity profile, and antioxidant biomarkers were determined. Moreover, the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway was investigated as a possible underlying antitumor mechanism. The tumor control group showed a remarkable upregulation for PI3K, p-AKT, and p-mTOR, along with downregulation for the antioxidant SOD and GPX4, as well as decreased levels of GSH and MDA. C. media extract reversed these parameters to a significant level and the higher dose showed a superior antitumor effect. C. media extract showed antiproliferative effects against HepG2 cells, along with a suppressive action on the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and an antioxidant effect. Additionally, C. media had antibacterial consequences against S. aureus isolates with minimum inhibitory concentrations from 32 to 128 µg/mL. It also caused a noteworthy growth delay as well as a notable reduction in the membrane integrity of S. aureus isolates. These beneficial outcomes suggest C. media to have potential antitumor and antibacterial activities.

The impact of Post COVID-19 Condition (PCC) is ongoing despite the declaration that the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic has ended. In this study, we explore the prevalence of PCC among healthcare workers (HCWs) in four African Countries and its influence on their professional performance. This study was conducted as an online cross-sectional survey of healthcare workers from four African countries (Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, and Somalia) between the 20th of December 2021 to 12th of January 2022. We determined the prevalence of PCC based on the WHO case definition and assessed variables associated with a higher prevalence of PCC in these countries using univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses. A total of 706 HCWs from four African countries were included in this survey. Most of the HCWs were aged between 18–34 years (75.8%, n = 535). Our findings showed that 19.5% (n = 138) of the HCWs had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. However, 8.4% (n = 59) were symptomatic for COVID-19 but tested negative or were never tested. Two-thirds of the HCWs (66.4%, n = 469) have received a COVID-19 vaccine and 80.6% (n = 378) of those vaccinated had been fully vaccinated. The self-reported awareness rate of PCC among the HCWs was 16.1% (n = 114/706) whereas the awareness rate of PCC among COVID-19-positive HCWs was 55.3% (n = 109/197). The prevalence of PCC among HCWs was 58.8% (n = 116). These changes include the self-reported symptoms of PCC which included headache (58.4%, n = 115), fatigue (58.8%, n = 116), and muscle pain (39.6%, n = 78). Similarly, 30% (n = 59) and 20.8% (n = 41) of the HCWs reported the loss of smell and loss of taste long after their COVID-19 infection, respectively. Some HCWs (42%, n = 83) believed that their work performance has been affected by their ongoing symptoms of PCC. There was no significant difference in the prevalence of PCC among the vaccinated and unvaccinated HCWs (p > 0.05). Of the socio-demographic variables, age (older HCWs between 45–54 years; OR:1.7; 95% CI: 1.06, 10.59; p = 0.001) and location (Egypt; OR:14.57; 95% CI: 2.62, 26.76; p = 0.001) were more likely to have experienced PCC than other age groups and countries respectively. The study revealed a low prevalence of PCC among the surveyed HCWs. In addition, it observed the need for adequate medical and psychological support to HCWs with PCC and improved mass advocacy campaigns on PCC.

Echinococcal invasion, included by the World Health Organization in the list of especially socially dangerous parasitic zoonoses, is an unresolved epidemic, epizootic and sanitary-hygienic problem for the population and animals in more than 250 countries of the world. The purpose of the research was to study the epizootic and sanitary-hygienic problems of echinococcosis of domestic goats in the North Caucasus region. In 2019-2022, the research was carried out in 3 climatic zones of Kabardino-Balkaria. The objects were liver and lungs of 120 slaughter goats. The intestines were dissected from 15 dog corpses slaughtered in accordance with the International Rules for the Humane Treatment of Animals (2012). Monitoring of echinococcosis in dogs and goats was performed by the method of autopsy of organs and tissues according to K.I. Scriabin (1928). The number of eggs of taeniid type in faeces of dogs and in 520 samples of water from natural reservoirs of the Terek river basin was determined according to the guidelines of Russian Research Institute of Parasitology (1986). In plain climatic zone, index of occurrence of cystic Echinococcus granulosus invasion in liver and lungs of goats was 18 %, in foothill zone - 24 %, in mountain zone - 28 % (on average, 25 %). Extracted from liver and lungs of sheep, transparent cysts of echinococcus contained protoscolexes in 100 % of the samples, which indicates the likelihood of foci involving dogs and wild predators in the region. Natural reservoirs of Kabardino-Balkaria are also large biotopes of teniosis. Contamination of river water samples with taeniid eggs is 11.037.0 %. The region belongs to the group of subjects with high rates of zoonosis in animals due to violation of the terms of deworming for priotary dogs, lack of sanitary and preventive work with the population. According to the epizootic situation for animal echinococcosis, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic can be attributed to disadvantaged regions of the Russian Federation, as there is an increase in the number of dogs with echinococcosis and goats infected with fertile cysts. Sanitary and hygienic pollution of the Terek river and its tributaries, Malka, Baksan, Cherek and Chegem, with eggs of cestodes is a threat to the spread of echinococcosis among animals and humans.

OBJECTIVES:. To develop and validate machine learning (ML) models to predict high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) failure in COVID-19, compare their performance to the respiratory rate-oxygenation (ROX) index, and evaluate model accuracy by self-reported race. DESIGN:. Retrospective cohort study. SETTING:. Four Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, GA. PATIENTS:. Adult patients hospitalized with COVID-19 between March 2020 and April 2022 who received HFNC therapy within 24 hours of ICU admission were included. INTERVENTIONS:. None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS:. Four types of supervised ML models were developed for predicting HFNC failure (defined as intubation or death within 7 d of HFNC initiation), using routine clinical variables from the first 24 hours of ICU admission. Models were trained on the first 60% (n = 594) of admissions and validated on the latter 40% (n = 390) of admissions to simulate prospective implementation. Among 984 patients included, 317 patients (32.2%) developed HFNC failure. eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) model had the highest area under the receiver-operator characteristic curve (AUROC) for predicting HFNC failure (0.707), and was the only model with significantly better performance than the ROX index (AUROC 0.616). XGB model had significantly worse performance in Black patients compared with White patients (AUROC 0.663 vs. 0.808, p = 0.02). Racial differences in the XGB model were reduced and no longer statistically significant when restricted to patients with nonmissing arterial blood gas data, and when XGB model was developed to predict mortality (rather than the composite outcome of failure, which could be influenced by biased clinical decisions for intubation). CONCLUSIONS:. Our XGB model had better discrimination for predicting HFNC failure in COVID-19 than the ROX index, but had racial differences in accuracy of predictions. Further studies are needed to understand and mitigate potential sources of biases in clinical ML models and to improve their equitability.

The spiny bollworm, (SBW) Earias insulana (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is considered one of the most important corn pests in the world. It causes severe damage, resulting in a great loss in both quality and quantity of Maize yield. The study aimed to evaluate the virulence of fungal spores and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) on E. insulana under laboratory conditions. Concentrations of the fungal spores and the silver nanoparticles were prepared from Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, and Verticillium lecanii. Metarhizium anisopliae isolated from larvae and adults of the beet moth and Beauveria bassiana isolated from the beet beetle. The compound was used Bio Catch (V. lecanii). The concentration of EPF used was (1x106 spores/ ml). Hundred larvae and pupae were used for each treatment, divided into 5 groups, and kept at 24±2 ºC and 65±5 % R.H. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized. The nano-particle solution was sprinkled over the filter paper and incubated at 24±2ºC for 3 days. The mortality rate was recorded 2 days after the treatment and mortality percentage was calculated. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the effects of the experimental and control treatments. The results showed that the three EPF achieved (47–70%) mortality rates within 6 days in larvae stage. B. bassiana and M. anisopliae were the most effective ones than V. lecanii. Spores of B. bassiana increased larvae mortality. The larvae mortality rate was (70 %) higher than the control. Pupae mortality rate was 65 % achieved in 6 days when treated with B. bassiana, (60 %) with M. anisopliae and (50%) with V. lecanii. B. bassiana was more effective on E. insulana than M. anisopliae and V. lecanii. The Ag NPs synthesized through applications of spore suspension and biosynthesized silver nanoparticles showed efficacy against E. insulana, different stages.

Background: Maize plants are infested with many insect pests. The corn borer, namely: the greater sugarcane borer (the pink borer), Sesamia cretica Led. is one of the most injurious insects infesting maize in Egypt and all over the world. Results: Results illustrated that the mortality percentage within 48 hours of S. cretica after feeding 4th instar larvae on maize leaves treated with various plant extracts with alcohol or petroleum- ether shows varying degrees of mortality percentages. Petroleum ether extract of Cressa cretica was extremely effective, causing 87.5% mortality. Petroleum ether extracts of Amborosia maritima, Calotropis procera, and alcohol extract of C. cretica, causing 77.5% mortality. The effectiveness may be due to the presence of diverse chemical groups in these plant extracts with toxic to the larvae of the pink borer. On the other hand, extracts of Lycopersicum esculentum, Lotus glenoid, Aerva javanica, Carpobrotus edulis, Capsium annum, and Cassia senna have been minimum toxic effect and causing 7.5, 10.0, 12.5, and 12.5 % mortality, respectively. The influence of minimal toxic plant extracts as antifeedant to the pink borer (S. cretica) was studied. Food consumption varied depending on the feeding time and extracts tested. The feeding ratio of S. cretica on the different extracts was significantly different. The anti-feeding activity of extracts appears to have had a higher effect than its toxicity.

Abstract The PALB2 gene is a breast cancer (BC) and ovarian cancer (OC) predisposition gene involved in the homologous recombination repair pathway. However, the prevalence and clinicopathological association of PALB2 pathogenic/likely pathogenic (PV/LPV) variants in Middle East is still not fully explored. Total 918 BC/OC patients from Saudi Arabia were selected for PALB2 mutations screening using capture sequencing technology. Five heterozygous PVs or LPVs were identified in six cases, accounting for 0.65% (6/918) of entire cohort. Two cases (33.3%) harbored PVs and four cases (66.7%) carried LPVs. Four PVs/LPVs (80%) were frameshift along with one novel splicing LPV (c.2835-2_2835-1delinsTT). One recurrent LPV (c.3425delT: p.L1142fs) was identified in two cases. All six affected carriers have breast cancer diagnosis with median age of 39.5 years (range 34–49 years). Only two cases (33%) have documented family history of cancer. Breast cancer phenotype was invasive ductal unilateral cancer in all cases with 66.7% of hormone receptor positive and 16% of triple negative tumors. Germline PVs/LPVs in the PALB2 gene were observed in low frequency of 0.65% in Saudi BC and/or OC. Our study confirms one recurrent LPV and one novel LPV in Saudi breast cancer patients.

The increasing rates of morbidity and mortality owing to bacterial infections, particularly Staphylococcus aureus have necessitated finding solutions to face this issue. Thus, we elucidated the phytochemical constituents and antibacterial potential of Cleome droserifolia extract (CDE). Using LC-ESI-MS/MS, the main phytoconstituents of CDE were explored, which were kaempferol-3,7-O-bis-alpha-L-rhamnoside, isorhamnetin, cyanidin-3-glucoside, kaempferide, kaempferol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside, caffeic acid, isoquercitrin, quinic acid, isocitrate, mannitol, apigenin, acacetin, and naringenin. The CDE exerted an antibacterial action on S. aureus isolates with minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 128 to 512 µg/mL. Also, CDE exhibited antibiofilm action using a crystal violet assay. A scanning electron microscope was employed to illuminate the effect of CDE on biofilm formation, and it considerably diminished S. aureus cell number in the biofilm. Moreover, qRT-PCR was performed to study the effect of CDE on biofilm gene expression (cna, fnbA, and icaA). The CDE revealed a downregulating effect on the studied biofilm genes in 43.48% of S. aureus isolates. Regarding the in vivo model, CDE significantly decreased the S. aureus burden in the liver and spleen of CDE-treated mice. Also, it significantly improved the mice’s survival and substantially decreased the inflammatory markers (interleukin one beta and interleukin six) in the studied tissues. Furthermore, CDE has improved the histology and tumor necrosis factor alpha immunohistochemistry in the liver and spleen of the CDE-treated group. Thus, CDE could be considered a promising candidate for future antimicrobial drug discovery studies.

Identifying potential sources of bias and review limitations, such as selective reporting or trial heterogeneity, is facilitated by tools like the Cochrane Risk of Bias and the AMSTAR 2 checklist. The assessment of included studies emphasizes formulating clear research questions and employing appropriate search strategies to construct robust reviews. Relevance and bias reduction are ensured through meticulous selection of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Accurate data synthesis, including appropriate data extraction and analysis, is necessary for drawing reliable conclusions. Meta-analysis, a statistical method for aggregating trial findings, improves the precision of treatment impact estimates. Systematic reviews should consider crucial factors such as addressing biases, disclosing conflicts of interest, and acknowledging review and methodological limitations. This paper aims to enhance the reliability of systematic reviews, ultimately improving decision-making in healthcare, public policy, and other domains. It provides academics, practitioners, and policymakers with a comprehensive understanding of the evaluation process, empowering them to make well-informed decisions based on robust data.

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease that commonly affects the liver and kidney. It can rarely affect the neurological system with aseptic meningitis being the commonest neurological presentation. We present the case of a patient with leptospirosis complicated by acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. Contribution: To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy as a complication of leptospirosis in South Africa.

ABSTRACT. Introduction. Impregnation with a new solution based on potassium polysulfide showed excellent results in the hydrophobization of cement stone and cement-sand mortar due to the formation of a nanoscale water-repellent coating on the surface of the pores from sulfur nanoparticles formed as a result of the destruction of the molecule during the drying process. An innovative solution based on potassium polysulfide refers to polysulfur compounds, from which, as a result of the destruction of polysulfide molecules, a nanoscale layer of sulfur particles is formed on the surface. Materials and research methods. Potassium polysulfide solutions of different densities were used for impregnation; the properties of the solutions were tested on cubic samples with a 40 mm edge, made on the basis of cement and cement-sand mortar. Particle characteristics were evaluated using a laser particle size analyzer, an electron microscope and a diffractometer. Results. The analysis showed that the average size of the particles forming the protective coating is 20 nm, they have a spherically symmetric shape and crystallize into an orthorhombic crystal lattice structure. The treatment of concrete with a solution of potassium polysulfide ensures the formation of a coating based on nanosized sulfur on the surface of the pores of the stone, which partially fills the pore space and, being hydrophobic, reduces the water bsorption of samples by 2–3 times, and the water absorption of samples impregnated under vacuum for 0.5 hours, decreases to values of 1.3–1.9%. Results and discussion. Modification of concrete with an impregnating composition developed by us with a solution based on potassium polysulfide The impregnating solution based on potassium polysulfide is stable in the concentration range of 1.15–1.35 g/cm3; upon impregnation, it penetrates into the pore structure of concrete at a level of up to 4 cm or more, depending on the growth and structure of the sample. When the material dries in its pores, sulfur nanoparticles crystallize from the polysulfide solution, partially filling the pore space and forming a protective durable insoluble hydrophobic coating that makes it difficult for water to penetrate into the pores of concrete, but retains its vapor permeability, which is important for wall and facing materials. Conclusions. Impregnation of road building materials and concrete products with a composition based on potassium polysulfide improves their performance properties, increases durability and resistance to weathering, which makes it possible to recommend it for use in the climatic conditions of the Russian Federation.

Learning loss pertains to the decline or regression in knowledge and abilities, as well as setbacks in academic advancement. This phenomenon typically arises from prolonged interruptions or gaps in the pupil's educational journey. Learning loss can be observed in diverse manifestations due to many factors. One example that can be illustrated is the disruption of formal education due to the COVID-19 pandemic that struck the world in 2019. As a result, this phenomenon has impacted students' academics, whether at the school level or higher education institutions, especially primary school students, thus causing learning poverty. This scoping review aims to identify the degree of reading literacy among primary school students and to investigate the factors that contribute to the learning losses of primary school students from the reading aspect. Four databases, including Scopus, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE), and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), were used in this research, which found 40 articles for eligibility. Only 20 articles are eligible for analysis and reference after the exclusion and inclusion process for data collection. The findings show that learning losses have impacted the education sector, leading to poverty, especially among primary school children.

Verteporfin and 5-ALA are used for visualizing malignant tissue components in different body tumors and as photodynamic therapy in treating isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) wild-type glioblastoma (GBM). Additionally, verteporfin interferes with Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP)/Transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif - TEA domain (TAZ-TEAD) pathway, thus inhibiting the downstream effect of these oncogenes and reducing the malignant properties of GBM. Animal studies have shown verteporfin to be successful in increasing survival rates, which have led to the conduction of phase 1 and 2 clinical trials to further investigate its efficacy in treating GBM. In this article, we aimed to review the novel mechanism of verteporfin’s action, the impact of its interaction with YAP/TAZ-TEAD, its effect on glioblastoma stem cells, and its role in inducing ferroptosis.

The current work aims to describe the physico-mechanical characteristics and shielding efficiency with reference to the mineralogical and geochemical compositions of the Neoproterozoic Um Had composite granitoid pluton in order to deduce their favorability as dimension stones. The Um Had granitoid pluton has an elliptical outline with a mean diameter of about 10 km. This pluton is a composite (ranging from white to reddish pink color), hard, massive, and medium- to coarse-grained granitoid body. It is classified as syenogranite according to their modal and bulk chemical compositions. Geochemically, the granitoid pluton is a highly calc-alkaline, peraluminous granite, formed by low degree partial melting of tonalitic source rock in a post-collisional tectonic setting. The physico-mechanical properties of the granitoid pluton under study satisfy the requirements of dimension stone in terms of their bulk density (from 2561 to 2564 kg/m3), and to some extent water absorption capacity (from 0.38% to 0.55%). However, their compressive strength values (50.4–113.4 MPa) do not achieve the minimum requirement for interior use and light duty exterior use. This study delves into the potential of some of our syenogranite samples (I, IIA, IIS, and 10) as gamma radiation shielding materials. We have assessed the mass attenuation coefficient (GMAC), effective atomic number (Zeff), exposure build-up factor (EBF), and energy absorption build-up factor (EABF) for each of these samples. The GMAC and Zeff calculations were performed using the Phy-X online software, across a photon energy range of 0.015–15 MeV. Our findings suggest an inverse relationship between photon energy and GMAC, with the highest values observed for the (I) granite sample (∼18). This study shows the promising radiation shielding capacity of our samples. The insights derived from GMAC, Zeff, EBF, and EABF can serve as a guide for the development of effective, naturally sourced radiation shielding materials.

To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated the efficacy and safety of prophylactic tranexamic acid (TXA) versus a control (placebo or no treatment) during hysterectomy for benign conditions. Six databases were screened from inception to January 23, 2022. Eligible studies were assessed for risk of bias. Outcomes were summarized as weighted mean differences and risk ratios with 95% confidence intervals in a random-effects model. Five studies, comprising six arms and 911 patients were included in the study. Two and three studies had an overall unclear and low risk of bias, respectively. Estimated intraoperative blood loss, requirement for postoperative blood transfusion, and requirement for intraoperative topical hemostatic agents were significantly reduced in a prophylactic TXA group when compared with a control group. Moreover, postoperative hemoglobin level was significantly higher in the prophylactic TXA group than in the control group. Conversely, the frequency of self-limiting nausea and vomiting was significantly higher in the prophylactic TXA group than in the control group. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of surgery duration, hospital stay, and diarrhea rate. All the RCTs reported no incidence of major adverse events in either group, such as mortality, thromboembolic events, visual disturbances, or seizures. There was no publication bias for any outcome, and leave-one-out sensitivity analyses demonstrated stability of the findings. Among patients who underwent hysterectomy for benign conditions, prophylactic TXA appeared largely safe and correlated with substantial reductions in estimated intraoperative blood loss and related morbidities.

Background: The drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is widely used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and has been repurposed for the treatment of COVID-19. This study aims to determine whether HCQ concentration levels in individuals with RA alter the incidence of COVID-19 or its complications. Methods: We collected plasma samples from 13 individuals with confirmed rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to measure HCQ concentration levels. The study included individuals at least 18 years old who had been taking HCQ for at least six months at daily doses ranging from 200 to 400 mg. Results: The study enrolled a total of 13 RA patients. All patients were chronic HCQ users. Among the 13 patients, 7 patients were receiving HCQ at a dose of 200 mg per day, and 6 patients were receiving HCQ at a dose of 400 mg per day. COVID-19 confirmed cases accounted for approximately 46% of all patients. Half of the infected patients (n = 3) were taking a daily dose of 200 mg daily, while the other half were taking 400 mg daily. COVID-19 symptoms ranged from mild to moderate, and the intensity of the symptoms was not severe enough to necessitate hospitalization. COVID-19 symptoms in RA patients included headache, fever, fatigue, dry cough, and loss of taste or smell. Conclusions: Our findings indicated that there was no correlation between HCQ concentrations in rheumatoid arthritis patients and the occurrence of COVID-19 or its complications.

The article shows the efforts of Ismail Gasprinsky to open a newspaper in the Tatar language in the late 1870s – early 1880s. On the basis of archival materials, official appeals of I. Gasprinsky to various state institutions, it is shown how much time and effort this process took. It is also said that I. Gasprinsky himself began publishing his first articles on the pages of the periodical press back in 1875. It is emphasized that the newspaper «Tarjeman», which had a tremendous impact on the lives not only of the Crimean Tatars, but also of all Muslim peoples of the Russian Empire, was under the vigilant supervision of the official bodies of tsarist Russia from the very first days of its existence.

The transmission system plays a vital role in the electric power system as it links load centers with power generation and, so, it is mandatory to protect this system from any abnormal conditions. This paper proposes a novel reliable fault detection and location technique based on optimally allocated phasor measurement units. The optimal phasor measurement units allocation guarantees the full observability of the system including all transmission lines, which are impeded in the protection zones. The proposed fault detection and location technique depends on the measured positive sequence components. The proposed technique has essential advantage due to its generalization to be valid for different areas’ sizes and configurations. The detection technique relies on calculated admittance, while the fault location is independent on fault resistance. For validation of the proposed technique, it is applied on the IEEE 14-bus system simulated using Matlab/Simulink® software package. Various faults are simulated considering fault resistance. From the simulated fault cases, the proposed technique proves its security against external faults and the dependability with internal faults.

Abstract Apigenin is one of the most studied flavonoids and is widely distributed in the plant kingdom. Apigenin exerts important antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antitumor activities, and anti-inflammatory effects in neurological or cardiovascular disease. Chalcone isomerase A (chiA) is an important enzyme of the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway. In order to enhance the apigenin production, the petunia chi A gene was transformed for Astragalus trigonus. Bialaphos survived plants were screened by PCR, dot blot hybridization and RT-PCR analysis. Also, jasmonic acid, salicylic acid, chitosan and yeast extract were tested to evaluate their capacity to work as elicitors for apigenin. Results showed that yeast extract was the best elicitor for induction of apigenin with an increase of 3.458 and 3.9 fold of the control for calli and cell suspension culture, respectively. Transformed cell suspension showed high apigenin content with a 20.17 fold increase compared to the control and 6.88 fold more than the yeast extract treatment. While, transformed T1 calli derived expressing chiA gene produced apigenin 4.2 fold more than the yeast extract treatment. It can be concluded that the highest accumulation of apigenin was obtained with chiA transgenic cell suspension system and it can be utilized to enhancement apigenin production in Astragalus trigonus.
