3. Associative fields of lexemes 'Homeland' and 'Vatan' in Russian and Tatar linguistic consciousness

Abstract

Currently, one of the important concerns in linguistics is the study of human linguistic consciousness, the tradition of studying goes back to the ideas of Wilhelm von Humboldt and his followers about the relation between language and spirit of the people, the inner form of language and so on. Among the research methods of linguistic consciousness one stands out the association experiment which is a survey of informants, united by a certain community (language, occupation, area of residence, etc.) in order to identify their associations to a particular stimulus. The paper used the following methods of linguistic analysis: generalization and systematization, analytical method, descriptive, comparative method of association experiment, etc. The association experiments including the stimulus word "Vatan" (Motherland) have been carried out, with 500 students of Kazan - the native speakers of the Tatar language. The results have been compared with the materials of the "Slavic Dictionary of Associations". Both common components of associative fields of the lexemes "Homeland" in Russian and "Vatan" in Tatar (patriotism, love for country, willingness to defend) and specific features have been elicited. The analysis of the reactions of the respondents indicated incompatibility of volume of the studied lexemes: the Russian word "Homeland" corresponds to two linguistic units in Tatar (Tugan il, Vatan), and the lexeme "Vatan" has a literary colouring. Thus, the association experiment reveals systemacy of the content of consciousness image standing for a word in different languages, and confirms the uniqueness and originality of the image of the world of each culture. The study has practical significance, because the obtained results represent a valuable and rather reliable material for the study of certain fragments of language consciousness, national-specific phenomena, knowledge, values, etc.

Abstract

© Journal of Language and Literature. This article presents historical and lexical research and lexicographic description of written records materials of the Kazan region of the XVI century. The article shows the process of formation and development of Russian historical lexicography; analyzes classifications of historical dictionaries, formed on different basis; determines historical and lexicological informational content of written records of the Kazan region of the XVI century. It also considers methods and technics of studying written records of the Russian language: examined documents, related to the Kazan region of the XVI century, differ in their variety of genres and represent written business records showing administrative and managerial activity of the government, its local and central institutions and regulating legal relations among society members. Analyzed written records are of great value as a source of toponymy; their materials help to retrieve history of villages of the region, establish the fact of existence of certain toponyms and follow their connection with modern geographical names.

Abstract

The authors discuss the peculiarities of the terminology of gastric and duodenal ulcers. A clinical, endoscopic and morphological study (determination of the relative area and density of sex hormone receptors in the mucous membrane of the antrum of the stomach) of 760 patients of different ages and genders was carried out. It was found that six clinical parameters (duration of anamnesis, frequency of occurrence of concomitant pathology, epigastric discomfort, belching, heartburn, hereditary predisposition) and two morphological parameters (optical density of estrogen and progesterone receptors) statistically significantly differed in men and women over 60 years old suffering from duodenal ulcer, not gastric localization. The results obtained are consistent with the data of the medical literature, according to which, sexual differences in the pathogenesis of ulceration are more characteristic of ulcers of duodenal localization. Considering that sex differences in the pathogenesis of duodenal ulcers, unlike gastric ulcers, persist until old age, the authors call for a separate study of stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers, which will probably lead to the need not to combine them two different diseases.

16. Silicon Photonics Transmitter with SOA and Semiconductor Mode-Locked Laser.

Abstract

We experimentally investigate an optical link relying on silicon photonics transmitter and receiver components as well as a single section semiconductor mode-locked laser as a light source and a semiconductor optical amplifier for signal amplification. A transmitter based on a silicon photonics resonant ring modulator, an external single section mode-locked laser and an external semiconductor optical amplifier operated together with a standard receiver reliably supports 14 Gbps on-off keying signaling with a signal quality factor better than 7 for 8 consecutive comb lines, as well as 25 Gbps signaling with a signal quality factor better than 7 for one isolated comb line, both without forward error correction. Resonant ring modulators and Germanium waveguide photodetectors are further hybridly integrated with chip scale driver and receiver electronics, and their co-operability tested. These experiments will serve as the basis for assessing the feasibility of a silicon photonics wavelength division multiplexed link relying on a single section mode-locked laser as a multi-carrier light source.

17. Calibrated Link Budget of a Silicon Photonics WDM Transceiver with SOA and Semiconductor Mode-Locked Laser.

Abstract

Based on the single channel characterization of a Silicon Photonics (SiP) transceiver with Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) and semiconductor Mode-Locked Laser (MLL), we evaluate the optical power budget of a corresponding Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) link in which penalties associated to multi-channel operation and the management of polarization diversity are introduced. In particular, channel cross-talk as well as Cross Gain Modulation (XGM) and Four Wave Mixing (FWM) inside the SOA are taken into account. Based on these link budget models, the technology is expected to support up to 12 multiplexed channels without channel pre-emphasis or equalization. Forward Error Correction (FEC) does not appear to be required at 14 Gbps if the SOA is maintained at 25 °C and MLL-to-SiP as well as SiP-to-SOA interface losses can be maintained below 3 dB. In semi-cooled operation with an SOA temperature below 55 °C, multi-channel operation is expected to be compatible with standard 802.3bj Reed-Solomon FEC at 14 Gbps provided interface losses are maintained below 4.5 dB. With these interface losses and some improvements to the Transmitter (Tx) and Receiver (Rx) electronics, 25 Gbps multi-channel operation is expected to be compatible with 7% overhead hard decision FEC.

Abstract

Exacerbation of duodenal ulcer disease (DUD) is associated with elevated number of Ki-67 and Bcl-2 positive endtotheliocytes and apoptotic activity. Inhibition of endotheliocyte proliferation and apoptotic activity in gastric mucosa (GM) upon eradication of Hp in DUD patients promotes ulcer healing. Combination of eradication with melaxen therapy substantially enhances efficiency of Hp elimination and reduces cicatrization time. Antirelapse treatment with melaxene and omeprazole normalizes endotheliocyte homeostasis on GM to a greater degree than omeprazole monotherapy.

Abstract

In the department of head and neck tumors of Rostov Research Oncological Institute the operation on advanced mouth floor and tongue cancer is proposed comprising removement of the regional lymph nodes and resection of the tongue and mouth floor. 30 patients were operated by the suggested technique with restoration of the functions of swallowing, nutrition and speech in postoperative period in all cases. 3-year recurrence-free survival made up 28.4+/-8.2%.
