Aim: Blood transfusion is also a tissue transplant and continues to be applied in many areas. Blood Transfusion training should be given to all healthcare professionals, and information should be updated in light of new developments. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the knowledge of physicians and nurses about the clinical use and transfusion of blood products. Material and Method: A questionnaire consisting of 16 questions was applied to 147 doctors and nurses working in the surgical and coronary intensive care units of XXXX Hospital between 01.10.2021 and 15.10.2021 to determine and compare their knowledge levels on blood and blood product transfusion. Questionnaire questions were prepared under four main headings: Basic transfusion information, clinical use of blood products, transfusion reactions, and storage of blood products. Results: 65.3% (n: 96) of the participants were female, and the mean age was 29.6±6.5. The mean age of the doctors and nurses, respectively (35.3±8.1 vs. 27.4±4.0 <0.001), was statistically significant. No employee could answer all questions correctly, and only four physicians answered 15 questions correctly. Nurses could answer a maximum of 13 questions (n: 3). While physicians gave statistically significant answers to 4 questions in total, it was determined that other healthcare professionals gave statistically better answers than physicians in only one question (Question 14). All employees' average correct answers were 9 (range 7-10). Physicians gave correct answers to 10 (9-12) questions and other healthcare professionals 9 (7-10) questions, and it was not statistically significant. Conclusion: It is essential to maintain the knowledge level of physicians and health workers in transfusion practices after graduation. It should be ensured that they benefit from scientific meetings and in-service training regarding current developments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Aim: Safe transfusion is one of the important steps in blood transfusion. This survey study evaluates the level of education and awareness of our nurses about safe blood transfusion. Method: 192 nurses working in our hospital were surveyed. Results: Only 16% of the participants were 40 years old or older, 18% worked for more than 20 years, 20% were high school graduates, and 25% of them never received training on blood transfusion (BT). All participants have been acquired awareness on cross match and record control. However, 20% were hesitant about the necessity of patient consent. It was observed that there was information confusion about premedication, and 25% were misinformed about blood transfusion procedures. For BT-related reactions, 67% and 40% could exactly identify the symptoms and the findings, respectively. Of the participants, 15% were misinformed about the necessity of emergency kit and 50% were aware of what to be performed in case of a BT reaction. Discussion: Since increasing the safety in BT process is highly related to the level of knowledge and awareness of the transfusion nurses, it is important to establish in service training programs and safety control systems. Introduction:Although vaccines are the safest and most effective means to prevent and control infectious diseases, the increasing rate of vaccine hesitancy and refusal (VHR) has become a worldwide concern. We aimed to find opinions of parents on vaccinating their children and contribute to available literature in order to support the fight against vaccine refusal by investigating the reasons for VHR on a global scale.Methodology:In this international cross-sectional multicenter study conducted by the Infectious Diseases International Research Initiative (ID-IRI), a questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was used to determine parents' attitudes towards vaccination of their children. Results:Four thousand and twenty-nine (4,029) parents were included in the study and 2,863 (78.1%) were females. The overall VHR rate of the parents was found to be 13.7%. Nineteen-point three percent (19.3%) of the parents did not fully comply with the vaccination programs. The VHR rate was higher in high-income (HI) countries. Our study has shown that parents with disabled children and immunocompromised children, with low education levels, and those who use social media networks as sources of information for childhood immunizations had higher VHR rates (p < 0.05 for all). Conclusions:Seemingly all factors leading to VHR are related to training of the community and the sources of training. Thus, it is necessary to develop strategies at a global level and provide reliable knowledge to combat VHR.Keywords:Vaccine hesitancy; parents; vaccine refusal.Copyright (c) 2022 Yakup Cag, Mohammad Emad al Madadha, Handan Ankarali, Yasemin Cag, Kubra Demir Onder, Aysegul Seremet-Keskin, Filiz Kizilates, Rok Civljak, Ghaydaa Shehata, Handan Alay, Sevil Alkan-Ceviker, Fatma Yilmaz-Karadag, Meliha Cagla-Sonmezer, Manar Ezzelarab Ramadan, Dumitru Irina Magdelena, Ljiljana Betica Radic, Jurica Arapovic, Fatma Kesmez-Can, Nagwa Mostafa El-Sayed, Oladapo Babatunde Campbell, Gulden Eser-Karlidag, Reham Khedr, Mehmet Emirhan Isik, Michael Mihailov Petrov, Roxana Cernat, Umran Erturk, Yesim Uygun-Kizmaz, Eva Huljev, Fatma Amer, Mehmet Resat Ceylan, Andrea Marino, Gulnur Kul, Tuba Damar-Cakirca, Yara Mohsen Khalaf, Arzu Cennet Isik, Olumuyiwa Elijah Ariyo, Ismail Necati Hakyemez, Rezaul Karim Ripon, Abdorrahim Afkhamzadeh, Emine Kubra Dindar-Demiray, Osasona Oluwadamilola Gideon, Maya Belitova, Mustafa Altindis, Rehab El-Sokkary, Recep Tekin, Mohammed Ahmed Garout, Joanna Zajkowska, Farhan Fazal, Muhammed Bekcibasi, Mirsada Hukic, Summiya Nizamuddin, Serkan Surme, Ricardo Fernandez, Amani El-Kholy, Nasim Akhtar, Saadia Ijaz, Andrea Cortegiani, Meliha Meric-Koc, Hakan Hasman, Agah Victor Maduka, Jehan Ali ElKholy, Sema Sari, Mumtaz Ali Khan, Yasemin Akin, Sukran Kose, Hakan Erdem.

Introduction: Hand hygiene is one of the most effective infection control measures to prevent the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HCAI). Water, soap, paper towel and hand disinfectant must be available and adequate in terms of effective hand hygiene. The adequacy of hand hygiene products or keeping water-soap and paper towel is still a problem for many developing countries like Turkey. In this multicenter study, we analyzed the adequacy in number and availability of hand hygiene products., Materials and Methods: This study was performed in all intensive care units (ICUs) of 41 hospitals (27 tertiary-care educational, 10 state and four private hospitals) from 22 cities located in seven geographical regions of Turkey. We analyzed water, soap, paper towel and alcohol-based hand disinfectant adequacy on four different days, two of which were in summer during the vacation time (August, 27th and 31st 2016) and two in autumn (October, 12th and 15th 2016)., Results: The total number of ICUs and intensive care beds in 41 participating centers were 214 and 2357, respectively. Overall, there was no soap in 3-11% of sinks and no paper towel in 10-18% of sinks while there was no alcohol-based hand disinfectant in 1-4.7% of hand disinfectant units on the observation days. When we compared the number of sinks with soap and/or paper towel on weekdays vs. weekends, there was no significant difference in summer. However, on autumn weekdays, the number of sinks with soap and paper towel was significantly lower on weekend days (p, Conclusion: There should be adequate and accessible hand hygiene materials for effective hand hygiene. In this study, we found that soap and paper towels were inadequate on the observation days in 3-11% and 10-18% of units, respectively. Attention should be paid on soap and paper towel supply at weekends as well.
