/The present work follows the research line which analyses the relation between human resources strategies and results. More precisely, we will propose an integration model of the main theoretical viewpoints which have articulated empirical research: a) The Theory of Resources and Capabilities —mainly based on company-created human capital, which becomes a means for achieving competitive advantages— and b) Theory of Behaviour —since improvement in results requires, apart from a highly trained and qualified working force, the manifestation of certain behaviours and attitudes.

- Abstract

This paper presents an approach for detecting and identifying faults in railway infrastructure components. The method is based on pattern recognition and data analysis algorithms. Principal component analysis (PCA) is employed to reduce the complexity of the data to two and three dimensions. PCA involves a mathematical procedure that transforms a number of variables, which may be correlated, into a smaller set of uncorrelated variables called ‘principal components’. In order to improve the results obtained, the signal was filtered. The filtering was carried out employing a state–space system model, estimated by maximum likelihood with the help of the well-known recursive algorithms such as Kalman filter and fixed interval smoothing. The models explored in this paper to analyse system data lie within the so-called unobserved components class of models. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The main aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of human resource practices on business results. This study will follow the universalist and contingency approaches propounded in the literature (Delery and Doty, 1996; McMahan, Virick and Wright, 1999) in order to confirm their validity in the specific context of Spain and for financial institutes within the Social Economy sector: Credit Cooperatives and Savings Banks. As for the contingency approach, we will introduce a new variable into the strategic process to moderate the human resource system - results equation: the integration of Human Resource Management. The efficacy of the personnel policies that are applied is conditioned by the consideration of human resources in the strategic formulation process. Prior to this analysis, we evaluate the direct effect of the aforementioned integration on the results along the lines of works such as those of Golden and Ramanujan (1985), Lengnick-Hall and Lengnick-Hall (1988) or Brockbank (1999).

- Abstract

This paper presents a real case study of a routing problem in a Spanish firm leader in the fresh food industry. The main objective is to improve profits and competitiveness based on logistic operations, minimizing the transportation cost employing the tabu search and neural network meta-heuristics algorithms. The simplest case considered is the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). The real case study presented in this paper there are capacity restrictions and different demands at each node, therefore the problem is solved as a Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP).

The search for competitive advantages as one of the main activities of a company has become a principle of contemporary theories on Strategic Management. Innovation facilitates a company's adaptation to the global competitive environment, representing the important strategic role that it has to play in relation to managerial performance and, as such, underlines the growing importance of innovation and the use of a company's technological assets. This paper therefore studies the effect in the results of four dimensions of technological innovation strategy on a sample of Spanish wineries, situated in the Castilla La-Mancha region of Spain, all of which are registered under the La Mancha Designation of Origin (DO)., {"references":["R.
