The objective was to analyze whether romantic partners’ conflict resolution style and perceived relationship quality are influenced by the dyadic configuration of adult attachment, specifically, by: a) attachment style matching; b) the number of couple members with a secure (vs. insecure) style. A sample of 405 Spanish heterosexual couples of young adults completed an online survey. Results showed no differences between couples with matched versus unmatched attachment styles. However, the presence of one or two members in the couple with a secure style was significantly associated with higher relationship quality and lower use of dysfunctional conflict resolution styles. In conclusion, for insecurely attached young adults, it is more beneficial to be in a relationship with a securely-attached partner than with a similarly-attached partner.

Background Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are one of the main causes of disability and dependence that have a great impact both on the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families. A majority of people with NDs receive care and support from the family, but there is no tool in Spain with which to measure whole-family QOL. The aim of this study was the translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of the FQOLS–Dementia into Spanish to assess FQOL among family members of individuals with NDs who live in the Spain–Portugal cross-border area. Method The Spanish version was translated and adapted following the international guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation tests. A sample of 300 family caregivers was interviewed, applying an adapted version of the Family Quality Survey (FQOLS–Dementia). Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to validate the factor structure, and convergent validity was examined with Pearson’s correlation coefficients of the global FQOL with the domains. Internal consistency reliability was determined using Cronbach’s alpha. Results The domain structure of the FQOLS–ND showed a good fit. In the convergent validity, it was found that the total score and the subscale domain scores were associated with the global FQOL score, except for the Values domain. Internal consistency of nine domain subscales was strong (α = 0.80 to 0.91), and excellent for the total FQOL (α = 0.85) and the global FQOL (α = 0.87). Conclusion The FQOLS–ND presented good validity and reliability in caregiver families with individuals with ND, so its application shows its usefulness in detecting areas of improvement and intervention strategies for FQOL in the Spain–Portugal cross-border area.

Introduction:When neurodegenerative disease (ND) is diagnosed, the family’s quality of life (FQoL) changes drastically. Within the concept of FQoL, the supports they receive from others at the community level and from services is one of the most important issues. Nonetheless, studies available using a mixed-methods approach are still limited. Consequently, the objective was to study the domains of support from services and support from others (emotional and practical), through the application of a quantitative instrument and the conduction of focus groups.Method:Three hundred relatives of people with ND, recruited from Regional Health Management of Castille and 14 Leon (Spain) completed the instrument FQOLS–ND, a specific scale for measuring quality of life in families caring for people with a ND. The mean age of the sample is 62.4 years and the majority are females (70%). In addition, a focus group was carried out with 10 family members (70% females, mean age= 61.6) aiming at the analysis of the quality of life domains.Results:The domains support of others (emotional and practical) and support from services achieved low quantitative levels specially in terms of achievement (Memotional=3.30; SDemotional= 1.21; Mpractical= 3.09, SDpractical= 1.26; Mservices= 2.83; SDservices= 1.02;). In the focus group, the main topics mentioned as negatively affecting the FQoL were social isolation, access and correct follow-up in specialized care services, lack of information on the diagnosis and progression of ND and on the needs of the person, and lack of empathy of professionals and others.Conclusions:ND negatively and significantly affects the family as a whole. Despite this, the emotional and practical support they receive from both other community members and professionals and services is still very insufficient. Therefore, it is important to raise awareness of the needs of this population and to carry out transformations in the attention provided.

The evidence of the interrelationships between adult attachment, conflict resolution style and relationship quality in couple relationships shows some inconsistencies and it is mostly based on English-speaking adult samples, as well as on individuals’ rather than on both couple members’ reports. Therefore, the aim was to examine the associations between adult attachment, conflict resolution style and relationship quality from a dyadic approach. A sample of 405 heterosexual young couples completed online the brief version of the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised Questionnaire, the respondent version of the Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory, and a 4-item measure of relationship quality. Avoidance attachment showed a stronger negative correlation than anxiety with relationship quality. Withdrawal and conflict engagement styles were more highly correlated with avoidance and anxiety, respectively. At a dyadic level, relationship quality was negatively predicted by actor avoidance attachment and positively predicted by partner relationship quality. No actor or partner effects of conflict resolution style on relationship quality were observed. Overall, partners with higher attachment anxiety and avoidance reported more dysfunctional conflict resolution styles and less satisfaction with the relationship.

Introduction:Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are one of the major causes of dependency among older people. Since family members assume most of the care, the impact of NDs goes beyond the patient and affects the functioning of the entire family. Nonetheless, the concept of Family Quality of Life (FQOL) is still insufficiently developed in this field: the literature has focused on family caregivers from an individual perspective, paying less attention to the family unit. Hence, the objectives were to describe FQOL of people with NDs and to identify factors associated, from a holistic point of view.Method:The sample consisted of 300 family members of patients with NDs (70% females; mean age: 62.4) living in the cross-border region of Spain-Portugal, mostly in rural areas. The majority were primary caregivers. They completed the FQOLS–ND via telephone. This survey examined how the family perceived its FQOL at the global and domain-level, in terms of attainment and satisfaction (measured on a 5-point Likert scale). It also collected data on diverse respondents’ and family characteristics.Results:The average score in Global FQOL was 3.65 (SD = 0.70) for attainment and 3.69 (SD = 0.47) for satisfaction. By domains, the highest value was found in Family Relations and the lowest in Support from services. Twenty hierarchical multiple regressions examined the potential predictors of Global FQOL and the nine domains for attainment and satisfaction. Medium predictive values (from R2=.14 to R2=.20) were found in Financial wellbeing (satisfaction), Support from services, and Leisure. The number of perceived barriers to social-health services was a significant predictor in all the explanatory models (the most frequently cited being: long wait for service, services not available, problems with transportation, lack of information, and financial costs).Conclusions:These results confirm that NDs are especially challenging in rural areas, where families feel more isolated and have fewer opportunities to receive professional support. Therefore, there is a need to design of a specific portfolio of services, resources and benefits that involves the key sectors of family welfare (public, private, third sector and family) and brings them closer to these areas, covering all the needs.

Neurodegenerative diseases often have an impact on both patients and their family caregivers. Given that families are an important support resource for people with neurodegenerative diseases, it is important to ensure their own quality of life. This symposium aim to present the NEUROQUALYFAM project funded by Cross Border Cooperation Programme Spain–Portugal 2014–2020 (POCTEP). The main objective of this project is to improve the quality of life of family caregivers who care people with neurodegenerative disease at home through the assessment of their needs and support resources, and the subsequent design and optimization of high-quality resources and services that are family-centered.

The competence of collaborative learning and the teamwork effectiveness constitute a basic and key competence in higher education, present in the syllabus of several degrees in the field of social sciences. Even more relevant for educational students, and especially for those who are trained to become teachers (in pre and primary education), where teamwork is an important part of their professional role. Several are the dimensions for the analysis of this competence, although there are three dimensions repeated in different studies, also included in some international reports on teaching competences (Assessment of Key Competences in initial education and training, European Commission, 2012; OCDE; 2018; PISA, 2018): (1) communication and support (ask and offer help) (2) developing/monitoring of collaborative roles (3) collaborative knowledge creation (participation and interdependence). From these three dimensions an assessment tool was created, considering the whole process, the planning the task, the regulation of the performance and the evaluation at the end. In order to get the effectiveness of the process, a number of activities were asked to analyze for all the members of the groups (dynamics, work methodology, involvement, participation, interaction, commitment, responsibility, contribution, roles, inclusion, relevance, attitude, climate, communication, etc.). The paper concludes with the importance of self-regulation in teamwork, emphasizing learning and its impact on higher education and professional development as future teachers. According to this, potential feedbacks and forwards are immersed in the evaluation processes that can help students training in the collaborative learning competence.

Given the widespread availability of sexual information and content on the internet, together with the web’s corresponding appeal (e.g., anonymity, portability, and social networking), it is likely that many adolescents learn about sex online. However, the internet has rarely been considered in studies on teenagers’ sources of sexual information, and the literature has several limitations and gaps. This study aims mainly to examine the amount of sexual information that a sample of Spanish adolescents receives from the internet, along with its usefulness, differences by sex and developmental stage, and associations with sexual behavior. A total of 3809 secondary students aged 12 to 17 completed a written survey anonymously. According to the analyses, 68.4 % of the participants had received sexual information online. Boys and middle adolescents obtained more (and more useful) information. Receiving more sexual information online was associated with masturbation and engaging in non-coital and coital behavior, but not with age or condom use at first intercourse. Since the internet appears to be a promising, useful, and widely accessed source of sexual information among adolescents, professionals are encouraged to incorporate internet-based approaches into their sexual education interventions with this age group.

This research has two main aims: a) the study of Spanish teachers’ training and attitudes towards sex education, as well as the delivery of this subject in classrooms, while also exploring the existence of differences according to personal and professional characteristics; and b) to examine the association between teachers’ training and attitudes, and the extent to which these variables predict the delivery of sex education. A total of 3,695 Infant, Primary, Secondary and High school teachers (66.1% women, 33.9% men) throughout the country completed a voluntary online questionnaire that inquired about their training and attitudes towards sex education, their delivery or non-delivery of this subject in classrooms, and other personal and professional characteristics. This paper offers an overview of the current state, difficulties, limitations and future possibilities for sex education in Spain. On the basis of a study involving 3760 teachers from all provinces in Spain, a detailed analysis of the obstacles at legislative, school and teacher levels was developed. Significant weaknesses were found at each of these levels. The main obstacles were the fact that sex education is a cross-curricular subject and contains content that should be incorporated throughout the curriculum rather than in one specific course; lack of monitoring of the practice of sex education; lack of interest in the topic in many schools; and finally lack of appropriate teacher training. A variety of different actions at legislative, school and teacher levels are proposed to overcome those difficulties.

Title: Parental attachment in childhood and quality of the romantic rela- tionships of young adults: the mediating effect of adult attachment Abstract: This paper has two main aims: firstly, to explore the relationship between parental attachment in childhood and perceived quality of roman- tic relationships in youth; secondly, to assess the possible mediating effect of adult attachment in the romantic relationship. A total of 133 heterosex- ual couples (ages 17-25) voluntarily participated in the study. An online questionnaire was applied to both partners to evaluate the quality of the re- lationships with the father and the mother in childhood, the attachment to partner (Anxiety-Avoidance), and the perceived quality of the romantic re- lationship. The results showed significant positive associations between pa- rental attachment in childhood and the quality of the romantic relationship, which were mediated by the adult attachment to partner. Furthermore, negative associations were detected between anxiety and avoidance of each partner and their own relational experience (and the other's relational expe- rience, in some cases). These results are discussed in terms of attachment theory and their significance to the quality of the romantic relationship.

Resumen Este trabajo pretende hacer un análisis sobre la formación del profesorado en materia de educación sexual, considerando 3 momentos: pasado, presente y futuro próximo. Para ello, en primer lugar, se revisan las posibilidades de formación universitaria y continua en las últimas décadas, y se ofrecen algunos datos sobre la formación actual del profesorado en activo en el conjunto del Estado. En segundo lugar, en relación con la formación futura, se revisan los planes de estudio de los grados de Educación Infantil y Primaria de las universidades españolas que surgen de la adaptación al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior. Los resultados muestran una escasa formación en sexualidad y educación sexual del profesorado en activo, y unas pobres expectativas en cuanto a las posibilidades de formación inicial (solo 3 universidades recogen de manera explícita y concreta esta formación, aunque desde la optatividad). Finalmente, se aportan sugerencias de mejora en el ámbito de la formación universitaria y continua Abstract This paper aims to analyze the level of sex education training of Spanish teachers in the past, present and near future. Firstly, a review of the possibilities of university and continuous training in recent decades is offered. Secondly, some data on the current level of training of Spanish teachers are provided. Thirdly, a review of the new curricula of the degrees in Preschool and Primary Education resulting from the adaptation to the European Higher Education Area is included. According to results, teachers currently lack sexuality and sex education training, and prospective possibilities of university training are scarce as well (only three Spanish universities offer explicit and speciÞ cally this training, although through optional subjects). Finally, suggestions for improvement both in the Þ eld of university and continuous training are offered.
