The Columbia River Gorge has long been an icon of naturalistic geology. Incised through the Cascade Anticlinorium, the Columbia River supposedly exemplifies the antecedent river hypothesis. This assumes the Cascade Anticlinorium was uplifted at the same rate the Columbia River eroded. In addition to generic challenges to antecedence, it fails to explain planation surfaces along Rowena Gap near the eastern entrance to the Columbia River Gorge. As much as 700 meters above the current river, these planation surfaces truncate folded Columbia River Basalts and extend over 40 kilometers north and south of the Columbia River. Due to their planar nature and no evidence of post-erosion faulting, the planation surfaces were eroded at their current elevation. Secular and post-Flood models alike fail to explain them. The Cascade Anticlinorium is a prominent feature from southern British Columbia to northern California that formed from regional folding during the Cascade Orogeny. Extensive research has been conducted across the anticlinorium and its parasitic folds, but little focus has been given to the erosion surface that truncates the anticlinorium. Outcropping along parasitic folds on the western flank of the Cascade Anticlinorium, Mount St. Helens is an excellent location to assess erosion. An examination of regional stratigraphy and structure of the anticlinorium, as well as the parasitic folds that comprise the deformed basement underlying Mount St. Helens, reveals that at least 7,850 m of strata were eroded along the truncated Lakeview Peak Anticline, while exhumed intrusives in the adjacent Pole Patch Syncline suggest a greater value. Because this erosion surface can be traced across the entire Cascade Anticlinorium, significant erosion occurred across the entire anticlinorium, much of which happened after regional folding. A technique of block surface-staining and serial cinematography was modified to review serial sections of normal and dystrophic muscle from the Bar Harbor 129 Re strain of mice as a preliminary study of fibre splitting in dystrophic muscle. Using this technique, muscle fibres were reconstructed for up to 1·5 mm of their length without difficulty. Split fibres were identified only when the actual separation of fibres was observed. Splitting was seen to be a significant cause of the variations in fibre diameter and was at times responsible for the formation of groups of small atrophic fibres which resembled those seen in denervation atrophy. Complex multiple splitting and recombination of daughter and parent fibres was also observed and reconstructed to scale.
