Breast cancer is a leading cause of mortality among women. Many young women in the Kyrgyzstan have poor knowledge about breast cancer screening, including risk factors and warning signs/symptoms. We investigated awareness about breast cancer and breast self examination (BSE) as a screening tool among female students at international school of medicine. This article contains the result of Survey fact and figures regarding breast carcinoma Although most participants were aware of breast cancer, knowledge about risk factors and warning signs/symptoms was relatively poor. Knowledge about performing BSE was particularly low. Textile industry is one of the major industries in the world that provide employment with no required special skills and play a major role in the economy of many countries. The textile industry utilizes various chemicals and large amount of water during the production process. Colour is the major pollutants present in the effluent from various textile industries. These are highly toxic to living things and have hazardous effect on their health. Thus removal of colour using natural flocculant is a major step towards the protection of natural resources. Coagulation-flocculation is the most widely used method and is applicable for the removal of the colour even at low concentrations. This paper represents the results of investigations carried out for the removal of colour along with SS, DS, TS and COD from waste water by using natural flocculant i.e. Cactus, Aloevera, and combination of Cactus & Aloevera. The colour removal efficiency of flocculant was investigated by batch wise coagulation flocculation method. The effect of various important parameters on the % removal of colour was studied to find the optimum condition for the maximum removal of colour. The parameters like pH, coagulant dose, flocculant dose, coagulant mixing time, coagulant mixing speed, flocculant mixing time, flocculant mixing speed, setting time & concentration of waste water were investigated. These parameters for Cactus were found to be 12, 10 ml/L, 20 ml/L, 2 min, 140 rpm, 15 min, 70 rpm, 6 min, 300 ml/L respectively, for Aloevera were Journal of Water Resource Engineering & Pollution Studies Volume 5 Issue 1 found to be 11.5, 10 ml/L, 100 ml/L, 2 min, 140 rpm, 15 min, 30 rpm, 1 min, 300 ml/L respectively and simultaneously for combination of Cactus & Aloevera were found to be 12, 10 ml/L, 10% + 80% (Cactus + Aloevera dose) ml/L, 2 min, 140 rpm, 25 min, 50 rpm, 10 min, 300 ml/L respectively. These natural flocculants gives maximum colour removal efficiency in the range 85-100%. The colour removal efficiency was found in between 85-100% for all parameters. All the result was validated on the basis of mathematical analysis. All the graphs were fitted to various trend lines out of which polynomial third order curve is best fit to experimental work as the coefficient of correlation (R2 value) is closer to unity.

Percolation tanks are constructed to conserve the rainwater in large quantities and allow more infiltration in its area of influence. Sometimes due to heavy fracture concentration/thick weathered zone, the water in percolation tank migrates fast in short period and tank becomes dry, which leads to early scarcity conditions. The village karkatta of taluka and district Latur is one such village, where water is provided by constructing two wells in the vicinity of percolation tank. The water level in the percolation tank depletes fast and the tank becomes dry in early summer. Also one cement nala bandhara was constructed in the downstream of the nala. The village is funded by UNICEF to implement MUS (Multiple Water Users) project. The area is surveyed by applying both electrical resistivity methods and low frequency electromagnetic methods in submergence of tank as well as in the downstream of percolation tank. The studies reveal that the leakages are due to thick vesicular basalt followed by fractured massive basalt. Suitable remedial measures are recommended to slow down the subsurface flow so as to improve the performance of the percolation tank.

The advent of immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in modern oncology has significantly improved survival in several cancer settings. A subgroup of women with breast cancer (BC) has immunogenic infiltration of lymphocytes with expression of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1). These patients may potentially benefit from ICI targeting the programmed death 1 (PD-1)/PD-L1 signaling axis. The use of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) as predictive and prognostic biomarkers has been under intense examination. Emerging data suggest that TILs are associated with response to both cytotoxic treatments and immunotherapy, particularly for patients with triple-negative BC. In this review from The International Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group, we discuss (a) the biological understanding of TILs, (b) their analytical and clinical validity and efforts toward the clinical utility in BC, and (c) the current status of PD-L1 and TIL testing across different continents, including experiences from low-to-middle-income countries, incorporating also the view of a patient advocate. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine development and administration have become global priorities since the beginning of the pandemic, particularly for special populations at higher risk of complications and mortality, such as patients with haematologic and solid organ malignancies. This review aims to summarise the current data for COVID-19 vaccine efficacy in patients with cancer, suggest priority areas for future research and look at potential disparities at a global level. Although patients diagnosed with or receiving therapy for cancer were excluded from the initial vaccine trials, emerging evidence now supports vaccine safety with potentially diminished immune response in this group. Several studies that evaluated antibody response to COVID-19 vaccination found that patients with solid malignancies had lower serologic response rates compared to healthy controls, but better than patients with haematologic malignancies, who had the lowest seroconversion rates and antibody titres. As anticipated, poor serologic responses have been particularly observed among patients receiving B-cell depleting therapies. The data on cellular response are scarce and conflicting since not all studies have showed a difference between patients with malignancies and healthy subjects. Several questions concerning vaccination remain unanswered and require further exploration, such as response duration, need for response monitoring and rates of breakthrough infections.

Cortactin represents an important actin‐binding factor, which controls actin‐cytoskeletal remodelling in host cells. In this way, cortactin has been shown to exhibit crucial functions both for cell movement and tumour cell invasion. In addition, the cortactin gene cttn is amplified in various cancer types of humans. Helicobacter pylori is the causative agent of multiple gastric diseases and represents a significant risk factor for the development of gastric adenocarcinoma. It has been repeatedly shown that H. pylori manipulates cancer‐related signal transduction events in infected gastric epithelial cells such as the phosphorylation status of cortactin. In fact, H. pylori modifies the activity of cortactin's binding partners to stimulate changes in the actin‐cytoskeleton, cell adhesion and motility. Here we show that H. pylori infection of cultured AGS and Caco‐2 cells for 24–48 hr leads to the overexpression of cortactin by 2–3 fold at the protein level. We demonstrate that this activity requires the integrity of the type IV secretion system (T4SS) encoded by the cag pathogenicity island (cagPAI) as well as the translocated effector protein CagA. We further show that ectopic expression of CagA is sufficient to stimulate cortactin overexpression. Furthermore, phosphorylation of CagA at the EPIYA‐repeat region is not required, suggesting that this CagA activity proceeds in a phosphorylation‐independent fashion. Inhibitor studies further demonstrate that the involved signalling pathway comprises the mitogen‐activated protein kinase JNK (c‐Jun N‐terminal kinase), but not ERK1/2 or p38. Taken together, using H. pylori as a model system, this study discovered a previously unrecognised cortactin activation cascade by a microbial pathogen. We suggest that H. pylori targets cortactin to manipulate the cellular architecture and epithelial barrier functions that can impact gastric cancer development. Background: Neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) is increasingly used in the treatment of breast cancer, yet it is clear that there is significant geographical variation in its use in the UK. This study aimed to examine stated practice across UK breast units, in terms of indications for use, radiological monitoring, pathological reporting of treatment response, and post-treatment surgical management. Methods: Multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) from all UK breast units were invited to participate in the NeST study. A detailed questionnaire assessing current stated practice was distributed to all participating units in December 2017 and data collated securely usingREDCap. Descriptive statistics were calculated for each questionnaire item. Results: Thirty-nine MDTs from a diverse range of hospitals responded. All MDTs routinely offered neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) to a median of 10% (range 5–60%) of patients. Neoadjuvant endocrine therapy (NET) was offered to a median of 4% (range 0–25%) of patients by 66% of MDTs. The principal indication given for use of neoadjuvant therapy was for surgical downstaging. There was no consensus on methods of radiological monitoring of response, and a wide variety of pathological reporting systems were used to assess tumour response. Twenty-five percent of centres reported resecting the original tumour footprint, irrespective of clinical/radiological response. Radiologically negative axillae at diagnosis routinely had post-NACT or post-NET sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in 73.0 and 84% of centres respectively, whereas 16% performed SLNB pre-NACT. Positive axillae at diagnosis would receive axillary node clearance at 60% of centres, regardless of response to NACT. Discussion: There is wide variation in the stated use of neoadjuvant systemic therapy across the UK, with general low usage of NET. Surgical downstaging remains the most common indication of the use of NAC, although not all centres leverage the benefits of NAC for de-escalating surgery to the breast and/or axilla. There is a need for agreed multidisciplinary guidance for optimising selection and management of patients for NST. These findings will be corroborated in phase II of the NeST study which is a national collaborative prospective audit of NST utilisation and clinical outcomes.
